The following are the original replies when this was first posted on Open Salon.

I had to go check out their little disclaimer at the bottom of their page. Take note what it says in very small (and light) print:

"Contributions to American Crossroads are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes. Contributions from foreign nationals are prohibited. American Crossroads is registered with the Federal Election Commission as an independent expenditure committee. Accordingly, we may accept unlimited contributions from individuals, corporations, and other organizations. Your contribution is not subject to FEC limits. American Crossroads’ spending is independent, and it does not make contributions to, or coordinate its spending with, any candidates or political parties. "

In other words you can bribe as much as you want as long as you don’t come out and say “this is a bribe.”

Zachery, I think I am going to wander over to the Federal Election Commission and see what I can learn...

MrsRaptor October 25, 2010 02:35 PM The American Crossroads is probably made up of Karl Rove and a bunch of other bloodsuckers! Of course, our distinguished Supreme Court has made this possible.

I fear we are headed for a plutocracy. Democracy may be a failed experiment because of the influence of money~R.

Sarah Cavanaugh October 25, 2010 03:08 PM

The Supreme corporate court is part of the corporate plutocracy which we already have. The majority of the public doesn’t have much if any influence over the current system but if they are educated better then we can start elected people that go through an interview process that is controlled by the people not the corporations. This may involve boycotting corporate candidates using the current corrupt system which is easier said than done. I’m sure many people could come up with some ideas to change the system.

zacherydtaylor October 28, 2010 01:49 PM

Sadly, few if any donors to American Crossroads will read this or any other critique of organizations founded by the corporate interests who hold them in contempt. These donors live in a political echo chamber, and would rather support a campaign of hate, fear, and lies dressed up as fiscal responsibility than hear anything resembling the truth. Someone once said "In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve." That goes double for a nation in which the majority of citizens can't be bothered to acquaint themselves with simple, easily observable facts.

nanatahay give me back my E October 28, 2010 02:05 PM I suspect that the real donors to American Crossroads don't care; they just want to corrupt the system at the expense of the majority for their own benefit.

It is hard to imagine this ad getting much if any donations from the public; they seem to be run mainly by the rich however they probably want to make it appear that they have grassroots support.

If the public was better educated they would see right through this kind of crap.

zacherydtaylor October 30, 2010 12:34 PM

I actually HAVE inside information on some of the major contributors to Karl Rove's American Crossroads. I have information as to how much they donated, and more importantly WHY they donated and how at least one candidate was willing to sell her vote on a major issue to secure funding from American Crossroads....view for yourself and you tell me.
