Wikileaks E-Mails & Recount need to be used for long term reform

Interest in the Podesta E-Mails is quickly disappearing and many people are more concerned with the hypocrisy of challenges by "Hillary Clinton supporters" to the integrity of the vote than they are by the possibility if not virtual guarantee that electronic votes are tainted and that we need to keep paper ballots to ensure votes are counted honestly, along with other major reforms to enable the public to control the interview process.

Many progressives seem to prefer Trump to Clinton for one reason or another; others consider him so fanatical that letting the greater evil win is too dangerous and even blame real progressives for supporting Bernie Sanders or Jill Stein, without acknowledging the enormous problems with their candidate who is incredibly corrupt; and there's enormous evidence to support this assumption.

Personally I've seen enormous amounts of evidence to indicate that both of them are incredibly corrupt and the fact that they were able to get astronomical amounts of media coverage that enabled them to win while real progressive grassroots candidates were suppressed is by far the bigger problem and everything that can be done to expose this and prevent it from happening again needs to be done. Donald Trump's policies may be more extreme than Hillary Clinton's; however he never would have been elected if he wasn't up against such a horrible candidate and at least the progressives, even the pseudo-progressives supporting Hillary Clinton recognize this and can be expected to provide a lot of resistance to his policies.

In 2012 many of us were arguing that if we settled for the lesser of two evils choices, after it was clear that Barack Obama had broken almost all of his promises to progressives, that they would come up with two choices that were even more corrupt and fanatical; I doubt if many people would have believed that they would make this prediction come true, and take it to a fanatical extreme so irrational that it would seem more absurd than many fringe conspiracy theories; but that is exactly what has happened.

The official truth now is that one of the most blatant absurd and fanatical of those fringe conspiracy theorists is now our president elect!

Most of these absurd conspiracy theories are also factually and logically flawed which makes them highly unlikely, if into impossible to be true; however ridicule and stereotyping them isn't the scientific way of debunking them, even if it is most common. This is especially true under the circumstances.

If the official truth is as absurd as the conspiracy theories then simply claiming conspiracy theories are absurd does nothing to debunk them!

Researching them and checking the facts will do much more and that indicates that even though many absurd conspiracy theories are false; many of the more rational ones are either true or much closer than the media propaganda; and exposing these problems and educating the public about them is part of the most effective way of reforming the system and reducing or eliminating epidemic corruption.

Even if this recount doesn't change the results or switches the presidency from one crook to another we should support it.

Amazingly Hillary Clinton's initial reluctance to support it, even after she campaigned by saying the one thing she "is not a quitter" and that she never stops "fighting for the American people," raises even more doubts about whether she really was defending progressive causes at all. Only after momentum grew with the recount starting in Wisconsin did Clinton follow Stein’s lead and back recounts in Michigan and Pennsylvania: campaign attorney 11/26/2016

At least with Trump we'll know that he's not even trying to keep any of his promises, assuming anyone does a minimal amount of research. His choices for his cabinet are making this even more obvious to anyone that doesn't follow him like a cult follower. Bannon, as the media has pointed out is a right wing racist and Betsy Devos is as bad if not worse, although it may take the public longer to learn that. It may be easier for some to recognize that she's the sister of Erik Prince founder of Blackwater but even if people don't blame her for her brother's activities she's just as interested in privatizing education as he is in privatizing war.

Jeremy Scahill has reported extensively on Erik Prince in his book Blackwater and recently tweeted Erik Prince wants to privatize war. His sister Betsy wants to privatize education. Their mom wants to rid the earth of gay people. and Erik Prince gave $100k+ to Trump. His mom also gave big. Sister is going to be in cabinet. Prince will thrive & get protection from the law. There's significant evidence to indicate that this is right and much more. Betsy Devos claimed that she was opposed to Common core which many of Trump supporters oppose; however this is a recent flip; she was previously part of a group that supported it and it is often affiliated with efforts to increase Charter Schools. This is obviously another political position changed for the sake of appearance. Scahill also reported more on her family in his book Blackwater int eh following excerpt:

However this doesn't necessarily mean that Hillary Clinton is much if any better than Donald Trump when it comes to school privatization or any other privatization, even if, at times she claims to oppose it while campaigning. Her support for privatization of education goes back to her days as first lady of Arkansas in the eighties when she supported school reform pushed by her husband, Walmart, where she was on the board, and the Walton family.

Much more recently she indicated that she still supports Charter Schools even though they've been overwhelmingly proven to be a disaster as part of a privatization effort when she was booed by a teachers union when she said, “when schools get it right, whether they are traditional public schools or public charter schools, let’s figure out what’s working ... and share it with schools across America.” After being booed she continued hinting at her support for Charter's saying, “We can do that, We’ve got no time for all of these education wars.” Only after she realized how opposed the crowd was did she go on to differentiate between for profit Charters' and non-profit. Clinton's charter school comments prompt boos at teachers union event 07/05/2016

However the people involved in the education process are much more aware of all the research into it demonstrating that it is a disaster and the political establishment has demonstrated that when there isn't overwhelming opposition they do what they can get away with to privatize the education system. This has been going on long enough to have serious doubts about any of the candidates covered by the corporate media especially these two that have both shown that they support the corporate education reform movement, at least in their private positions.

This is why the objective of the recount effort and education about disclosures through Wikileaks or else-where should be more concerned about reforming the system than deciding which crook gets elected to the presidency unless there is a chance to actually get a sincere candidate in the White House or any other elected position. This isn't limited to education; it applies to all subjects including economic fraud, health care a permanent state of war and many other things; however education is among the most important subjects since part of the school reform movement involves subtly replacing education with indoctrination controlled by the rich about any given subject. The best news on many subjects is in alternative media outlets; and there's a similar effort in the school reform movement to keep the best education efforts to recognize this out of the school system especially for the poor or middle class.

This isn't fringe conspiracy theory, since there's large portions of this that isn't completely secret, although many of the details are scattered so it is difficult to provide all the sources in a single article.

Some of the complaints that I have seen about this recount are that they don't start with calls to recount the primaries and challenge that; this has partial justification but it shouldn't mean that we shouldn't recount these states or point out the problems with it. Instead we should use this as an opportunity to remind as many people as possible that hey were also rigged as indicated through several sources including, Study shows voting irregularities linked to companies that donated to the Clinton Foundation; (07/04/2016) and I went through more questions from the primaries in at least eighteen states in Can Hillary Clinton win without cheating?

Additional doubts about our election system was disclosed in Andrew Gumbel “Steal This Vote” 2005 who opens by saying, 'A few days before the November 2004 election, Jimmy Carter was asked what would happen if, instead of flying to Zambia or Venezuela or East Timor, his widely respected international election monitoring team was invited to turn its attention to the United States. His answer was stunningly blunt. Not only would the voting system be regarded as a failure, he said, but the shortcomings were so egregious the Carter Center would never agree to monitor an election there in the first place. "We wouldn't think of it," the former president told a radio interviewer. "The American political system wouldn't measure up to any sort of international standards, for several reasons."'

At the time he wrote this book the worst of the voter fraud was being committed by the Republican Party; however this year a significant amount of evidence emerged, some of which I went into in the previous article about Can Hillary Clinton win without cheating, indicates that Hillary Clinton was the beneficiary of a large amount of voter suppression that was initially initiated by the Republican's and many of the Wall Street donors that usually favor Republicans donated to her instead. Wall Street donors now seem as happy if not happier with Donald Trump even though they weren't donating to his campaign nearly as much. However his positions on many issues is as good if not better than Hillary Clinton's; and he's quickly demonstrating that rather than "draining the swamp" as promised he's filling it up with as many if not more insiders than Hillary Clinton.

As far fetched as it may sound to many people I wouldn't completely rule out the possibility that Hillary Clinton might have been willing to cede the election to Donald Trump quickly because that is what her financial backers might have wanted all along. The speed that Donald Trump abandoned his promise to prosecute her might make this seem even more likely; but if there is something to this theory it will probably get much bigger before it ends, assuming it is disclosed at all; and it might even turn out that was the intention all along.

This recount should do as much as possible to expose the fact that proprietary laws for voting machines are being used to allow companies that control the machines keep secret potential methods that might be used to rig elections. Andrew Gumbel points out, in his book, that Mae Churchill of the Urban Policy Research Institute in California wrote to the FEC at the time, “The proprietary interests of voting system vendors have been allowed to drive the standards drafting procedure… The privatizing of elections is taking place without the consent or knowledge of the governed." The computer codes of these machines are apparently secret and if there is something in it that enables them to hack the elections we don't have the right to know, which is totally incomparable with a sincere democratic process.

Apparently evidence of possible support for Hillary Clinton may ahve first come out in 2008 when she benefited from a Clinton’s ‘Diebold Bump;’ 01/10/2008 "Hillary Clinton performed better, and Barack Obama worse, in counties where votes were counted using Diebold machines," during the 2008 New Hampshire primaries. Diebold supposedly favors the Republican Party; however there is growing evidence that Hillary Clinton may be as supportive of business interests as most Republicans so they might be just as happy with her, or as it turns out now, Donald Trump.

Jill Stein isn't stopping with her request to have a voter recount in just these three states according to Stein: 'We would support efforts elsewhere to uphold election integrity' 11/28/2016 and she writes, "Clinton + Trump: Want democracy? Enact a national "right to vote" law to guarantee universal, automatic, permanent voter registration." She's also supported other reforms in the past that the mainstream candidates have ignored which would reinforce democracy including efforts to cover a larger variety of candidates during the debates and media coverage in general. None of the traditional candidates, including Trump and Clinton that the media generally cover support many of the most important reforms that would educate the public about many of the most important issues or eliminate laws about "proprietary information" that deprive the public of the knowledge they need to know if their election process can be hacked.

By declining to even discuss this the mainstream candidates raise even more doubts about their sincerity and also increase the likelihood that there might be a conspiracy to rig the elections. Ironically when they do raise possible conspiracy theories that hey consider viable they're often the least credible ones while the most credible theories get no coverage at all. This includes Trump's unlikely claim that he won the popular vote because there were "millions of people who voted illegally." They've also tried to raise doubts about whether or not the Russians hacked the voting systems; however they briefly mentioned that this would be impossible, since according to one source they're not hooked up to the internet.

In this case there's evidence, at least of incompetence and that they know better. One of the most common practices of good propaganda is repeating things over and over if you want to drill them in to the public. Chris Hedges has demonstrated this repeatedly recently when he replayed the clip about Donald Trump saying he doesn't know if handing his business over to his kids is a "blind trust" and every time he repeats it he follows the clip up with the statement, "NO, it is not a blind trust," to make sure his viewers don't forget it. If they wanted to shoot down the possibility that the Russians might have hacked the computers and it wasn't hooked up to the internet making it impossible they could repeat that as often.

They don't do this about this farfetched if not impossible conspiracy theory any more than they do it about many of the other most absurd conspiracy theories; although they do it with the ones they want to be sure to shoot down. The traditional media is doing as much as the fringe media to encourage conspiracy theories by either repeating them over and over again, including many that now come from pundits that supposedly don't believe in them, or by doing an incredibly bad job debunking them.

The New York Post is now reporting that Trump administration will pressure foreign states to probe Clinton Foundation 11/27/2016 and Sunday on the State of the Union Kellyanne Conway says, "Trump has been "gracious" by not prosecuting Clinton while recount underway" and this is being interpreted as a Threat To Prosecute Hillary Clinton If She Pursues An Election Recount and there are more conspiracy theories going around, even on the traditional media, than most people can keep track of.

According to one Wikileaks E-Mail "We're told that President Clinton (like Mrs. Clinton and some other Dems) thinks that Trump would be a formidable opponent in the general election, and that Dems are in a form of denial if they dismiss Trump as a joke who would be easily defeated in November." This could easily be interpreted as a possibility that they might have thought Trump had a much better chance of winning than they let on; and it could even support a conspiracy theory that Hillary Clinton might have been willing to let Trump win. If someone was inclined to support conspiracy theories it wouldn't be hard to find additional evidence to elaborate on this. As I have reported previously other E-Mails indicate that the Democratic Party was trying to help ensure that the most extreme candidates would win by holding off the Illinois primary and even had a strategy file saying they would prefer Trump or some other "pied piper" candidate that would be easy to beat, although this E-Mail indicate they thought he could win. This sounds far-fetched but the strongest evidence for it is that regardless of what they intended they wound up with this result; and if they acted rationally they could have easily avoided it. However even if there were something to this; it would almost certainly get more complicated before it is exposed; and a large portion of it, like many other conspiracy theories might be a distraction from the real truth.

They could have easily avoided this problem by simply providing coverage of good candidates and trying to address the most important issues many people were concerned about.

Most of these conspiracy theories are absurd and insane but if none of them were even close to the truth then it seems that is exactly what they would have done, which is all the more reason to explore the most reliable information that can at least narrow things down and help educate the public about the flaws in the election system whether one of these conspiracy theories are close or not.

Whether or not one of these conspiracy theories are close to the truth there's something seriously wrong with our political system when two of the most corrupt candidates get nominated to the major parties and we wind up with pundits candidates and a president elect that are all obsessed with fringe conspiracy theories, or trying to act as if everything is functioning as it should and that we should support a president elect who routinely makes the most insane claims.

We now have a president-elect who is constantly inciting hatred and retaliation from the fringes and the media is trying to tell us that it is legitimate even though they constantly report about how outrageous his activities are. They imply that the way to protect the integrity of the elections is to refuse to report on the epidemic levels of corruption some of which they're involved in; and demonize those who do report on it.

Jill Stein and many other real progressives aren't damaging the integrity of the election process by exposing the flaws the people that create and cover up these flaws are the ones threatening the integrity of the election.

There is no way Trump would have won without the help of the media; which makes them an accomplice to the violence that he might incite.

If there was no conspiracy to elect either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton both of whom were involved in epidemic levels of corruption long before the election then there's overwhelming evidence of epidemic levels of incompetence from the traditional media which didn't report on many of their conflicts of interests until it was too late and refused to cover honest candidates; this we can be sure of.

The assumption that Donald Trump was an anti-establishment candidate was always absurd and logically flawed.

They didn't give Jill Stein, Ralph Nader, John Hagelin or any other anti-establishment candidate a TV show for over a decade before they ran their campaigns nor did they give them obsessive amounts of coverage like they did Donald Trump.

They've always known how to prevent candidates they don't approve of from getting elected; they simply don't cover them! That is how you recognize the real anti-establishment candidates. And the real anti-establishment candidates occasionally cover some of the issues the media refuses to cover like the consolidation of the media enabling over 90 5 of national media to be controlled by less than 1% of the public.

RE: Going into independent agencies 10/20/2008 I don't know if there are specific rules about going into independent agencies, but as I recall in 92 at the end of the day we decided the risks of appearing to involve the transition personnel in ongoing law enforcement or rulemaking were just too high and we did not go in. There is also - arguablely - a separation of powers issue as these are not executive branch entities. We concluded that everything we needed to know we could get from people familiar with the agencies and the public record. Obviously we have concerns like this at DoJ, but there are more controls in place there than at the agencies, and it is part of the executive branch.

Re: Hi Angel and Tina -- running stuff by you re Clinton/Trump story in tomorrow's NYT 02/29/2016 We're told that President Clinton (like Mrs. Clinton and some other Dems) thinks that Trump would be a formidable opponent in the general election, and that Dems are in a form of denial if they dismiss Trump as a joke who would be easily defeated in November. President Clinton, like others, thinks that Trump has his finger on the pulse of the electorate's mood and that only a well-financed, concerted campaign portrayed him as dangerous and bigoted will win what both Clintons believe will be a close November election. We're told that President Clinton (like Mrs. Clinton and many other Dems) thinks the single greatest weapon against Trump is Trump's own instinct to make outrageous, divisive, even hateful comments that can come across as unpresidential. He, Mrs. Clinton, and the campaign all agree that they will need to seize on opportunities to paint Trump as extremist and recklessly impulsive.

Villarreal--potential flag 03/11/2015 Robby Mook As Secretary, Clinton took advantage of her financial networks and corporate connections to raise over $72 million from 66 corporations for the United States Pavilion at the World’s Fair in Shanghai in 2010. She also appointed a longtime friend of the family, Jose Villarreal, to be the Commissioner General of the U.S.’s Expo in Shanghai. When soliciting contributions, Clinton had little consideration for ethics, as the corporations who were featured in Shanghai also contributed to her foundation and received accolades from the State Department. For example, some of the biggest contributors to Shanghai, including Proctor & Gamble, Boeing, and General Electric, all received favorable treatment from the State Department. The corporate contributions were a boon for Clinton, giving her a public relations win as she helped save the privately-funded U.S. pavilion. But in doing so, Clinton allowed the corporations to become the centerpiece of an exhibit that is supposed to emphasize American values.

Subject: Heads up 05/19/2016 Peter Kadzik to Podesta There is a HJC oversight hearing today where the head of our Civil Division will testify. Likely to get questions on State Department emails. Another filing in the FOIA case went in last night or will go in this am that indicates it will be awhile (2016) before the State Department posts the emails.

Re: Proposed response to upcoming State Dept disclosure on Sid emails 06/241/2015 All - In preparation for the possibility that the State Department may acknowledge as soon as today that there were 16 Sid emails missing from the 55k pages of material produced by HRC, I wanted to circulate the below draft plan for responding to the inquiries that Nick will get. Thanks

Re: Response to Gowdy Comments 03/17/2015 HRCs team requests a 2 week extension, then works on press statement to criticize Gowdy for granting the request. Wait, wasn’t the two week extension at OUR request? David & Katherine? "Secretary Clinton has already turned all of her work emails over to the State Department, and the Department has turned everything over to the committee. Representatives of Secretary Clinton’s office were in touch with the committee over the weekend to make clear that we want to make everything public, and we call on the committee to do so as soon as possible.”

Re: Proposed response to upcoming State Dept disclosure on Sid emails 06/25/2015 2. What that means specifically is that they are going to turn over all the Blumenthal emails to the Committee that they hav along with some other HRC emails that include a slightly broader set of search terms than the original batch. That of course includes the emails Sid turned over that HRC didn't, which will make clear to them that she didn't have them in the first place, deleted them, or didn't turn them over. It also includes emails that HRC had that Sid didn't, as Brian noted.

Re: 09/15/2015 N Tanden "Why did she call herself a moderate?" Podesta "I pushed her on this on Sunday night. She claims she didn't remember saying it. Not sure I believe her."

Portland / SF trip 11/24/2015 NO ONE's being held accountable for campaign illegally coordinating w PAC's. WHY NOT *Friday/SF - are you ok with a Silicon Valley/Priorities bfast, or would you prefer a later start ?*

Re: NYT | Email Content 03/17/2015 Why did Mrs. Clinton suggest that her emails were being captured in the State Department system when she was corresponding at times with her aides on their personal accounts?

Re: WSJ | Foreign Government Donations 02/18/2015 Sorry to be clear - foundation stops -- means stop taking foreign gov't money. Is that possible? If not we're going to be very vulnerable on that throughout and I think our opponents and some on our side will say at is unseemly for a potential U.S. President taking money from foreign governments for her private foundation.

Re: Obama Says He Didn’t Know Hillary Clinton Was Using Private Email Address - NYTimes.com 03/08/2015 I recollect that Josh was also asked if POTUS ever noticed her personal email account and he said something like POTUS likely had better things to do than focus on his Cabinet's email addresses.

Re: Fwd: Shelly 03/03/2015 Podesta to Cheryl Mills Look at the date. This proves intent concerning #HillarysEmails On another matter....and not to sound like Lanny, but we are going to have to dump all those emails so better to do so sooner than later On Mar 2, 2015 9:19 PM, "Cheryl Mills"

Re: Dinner tomorrow night 01/13/2016 US DoJ Assistant AG briefing Congress about the Huma Abedin email investigation is Peter Kadzik. This Peter Kadzik: Yes sorry. 7:30 at our place On Tuesday, January 12, 2016, Peter Kadzik

Fwd: I want to talk to you about Hillary's campaign tomorrow 12/17/2015 Michael Lux to Neera Tanden Just wanted to pass along this note I sent to Bob Creamer, who as you may know is consulting for the DNC and is close to Robby Mook.

Re: Anything come out of the call? 08/26/2015 Robby Mook to Podesta 5. One key issue Teddy flagged is that if she is pressed about making a "mistake" that she needs a graceful way to manage that or we will dig the hole deeper. Our ideal formulation is to say "Sure, I've already said I should have done it differently". Essentially agree without saying the word. Brian is working on another option. We want to discuss this with her on the tomorrow.

While my pro-Hillary column is most widely read on realclearpolitics.com..... 09/10/2015 Brent to Podesta I must tell you, John, when I see things like this, there are moments when I think her candidacy was just not meant to be. I went out on a limb for her today, which very few Democrats who are not paid by her have done recently as visibly and strongly as I did today, and if I knew this kind of thing was coming I would never have done it in a million years.

Re: Proposed response to Politico 12/05/2008 Finally, when you say "The Center follows all financial disclosure requirements." I would say American Progress as want to cover cap and capaf without drawing attention. (And we usually say all "legal requirements" but is sounds more weasely but some might ask what requirements.) And one warning that unlike foundations, our largest donors do not make the amount of the donations public ... Just that they are important contributors. So maybe not right to say they make their "support public."

RE: Larry Wilkerson advising Bernie.. 02/28/2016 Bernie Sanders has a 25 year awful record on Israel,,,,THIS is NOTHING,,,,, The advisers he mentioned are Zogby, and Ben Amy. Get your researchers to come up with some of the awful things these 2 have said about the US/Israel relationship, and you will have plenty of ammunition on the issue. He’s bad bad bad.

RE: Two follow up items 07/15/2015 A joint account with the DNC before the primaries even started?! Shit was rigged as hell! I wanted to get your blessing to move forward with the DNC joint account.

Re: Rubio and Missed Votes 10/07/2015 We missed a lot of votes in 2008. We did go after Obama on attendance though in 2008, but that was more on his chairing committee hearings. If we do this it should be through the dnc or without our fingerprints. I like where bush is going: docking pay. There should be a movement to get him to resign

Re: Opposition research 03/4/2016 Michael wants to meet with the Clinton campaign's opposition research team. He does not want to be paid. And he has 9 hours of taped conversations with Donald Trump.

Re: Superdelegates 02/12/2016 Just so I'm clear--we're looking for a press strategy on this? Or a strategy to retain our people? .... If the race is close, superdelegates could determine who the nominee will be regardless of who the majority of voters supported. Pretty undemocratic, isn't it?

Re: DNC update 12/29/2014 collusion long before campaign .@Simas44 aligning @AmyKDacey (who stepped down frm DNC in shame) w/@DWStweets (Also Resigned)to prepare for campaign 3. He is meeting with Amy Dacey again on Wednesday and is going to report back. I will come back at that point with thoughts on what's most useful to raise at the meeting with Debbie. Ideally, Simas can tee Jen up by then and you can reinforce in the meeting how urgent it is that she be brought on board and empowered to get to work.

Howard's advice 07/09/2015 He also thinks the brown and women pundits can shame the times and others on social media. So cultivating Joan Walsh, Yglesias, Allen, perry bacon, Greg Sargent, to defend her is helpful.

Fortune Favors the Bold 09/28/2016 By no means is the United States limited to overt military intervention in Syria; we are the nation who captured Saddam Hussein and brought Usama bin Ladin to justice. Henry Kissinger’s strategies in Laos and Chile are models of success that should be emulated, not criticized

Last night 12/20/2015 Please know that Apple will continue its work with law enforcement. We share law enforcement's concerns about the threat to citizens and we work closely with authorities to comply with legal requests for data that have helped solve complex crimes. Thousands of times every month, we give governments information about Apple customers and devices, in response to warrants and other forms of legal process. We have a team that responds to those requests 24 hours a day. Strong encryption does not eliminate Apple’s ability to give law enforcement meta-data or any of a number of other very useful categories of data.

Re: good news 03/04/2008 Michael Vachon had me come up to New York today to sit with George Soros and show him our ads. He liked them...a lot. And he REALLY liked McSame. I thought I'd be skewered for name puns but he thought it was sticky.

Re: Here's what I mentioned 08/19/2014 3. In the past the USG, in an agreement with the Turkish General Staff, did not provide such heavy weapons to the Peshmerga, out of a concern that they would end up in the hands of Kurdish rebels inside of Turkey. The current situation in Iraq, not to mention the political environment in Turkey, makes this policy obsolete.

Convention CEO 03/27/2016 Charlie and I may need to sit down with Debbie to make clear how we want things to change/improve before we are willing to consider playing ball with them.
