Walmart Crime Report September 2026

Walmart had at least another seven more shootings in September 2026 including three fatal shootings, two of which were suspects killed by police, the third is being treated as a homicide, and at least two more injuries related to the shootings, including one person that accidentally shot himself; another shooting was by a Walmart employee who shot an ex-Walmart employee after an argument. As I said before even though employees aren't supposed to be armed, with the possible exception of those working security, there are many cases every year where they are. There was also someone arrested at Walmart as a result of a warrant from a domestic violence shooting in August which happened elsewhere.

In addition to the three people killed in shootings there were two people killed in accidents on their property, one employee killed in an accident which she was off work who was honored at the store, and one person that died in the back seat of her car under suspicious circumstances, for a total of at least seven dead related to their business.

There were at least five more gun related crimes, possibly much more, since the large drop in reports of their crime problems seems to be search engines that no longer show it all, often replacing news stories with obvious ads thinly disguised as news articles, and repetition of the same stories over and over again. These gun crimes include at least one kidnapping, various threats without firing shots and one false alarm.

There was also a man arrested for taking a stranger's child out of a shopping cart attempting to kidnap the child, but he was quickly caught. This type of incident is extremely rare, most of the worst threats to children come from family members, but when this happens it causes much more panic and media coverage, often giving people the wrong impression of crime, but even though it's rare, Walmart has had a lot of strange crimes like this, over the years.

Another woman had her Walmart account hacked, and instead of securing their payment methods they're trying to stick her with the bill, as they've done before, if she doesn't get enough media attention or speak out for herself it's unlikely that she'll get the money back, while the hackers may be taking advantage of an insecure system created by Walmart. Many other financial institutions do a better job securing transactions and take responsibility when things go wrong. There are similar problems with new AI scams and delivery scams where they hack accounts, send purchases to houses charged to their account and after the false delivery is made they send people falsely claiming to work for Walmart to houses saying it was sent to the wrong house and stealing the products, with customers only realizing they were being charged for it after the thieves leave.

ICE is now routinely patrolling Walmart's around the country and have been spotted at least a couple last month, detaining at least one person. There were also at least two multi-state theft robbing Walmart that were discovered and suspects arrested, along with various assault, accidents, suspects resisting arrest, hate crimes and other criminal activity.

There was also an alleged theft ring to steal baby formula from Walmart and sell it for profit in Florida; for some reason the Florida Attorney General claims that the alleged thieves were "stealing baby formula against parents" which doesn't seem to be the case at all, and that they're going to continue to crack down on these cases to keep prices low," which is also misleading, if not an out right lie. Problems with theft of baby formula have been going on for a long time, and the reason it's so profitable is because of price gouging, often with the help of patents driving the price up so many parents can't afford it, except, perhaps, for generics, which are often just as good, but parents may not know it. It's the price gouging that drove the prices up in the first place creating the theft problem, not the other way around.

Another woman was accused of shoplifting because of an alleged glitch or mistake and was banned from Walmart for a year, who went online to express her anger. Would she have done this if she were really skip scanning? I don't know, of course, but this happens a lot and in some cases there is evidence to prove the accusations turn out to be false. There were also customers that reported that both Walmart's EV charging systems and pick-up orders are disaster, which shouldn't be surprising since Walmart famously cuts corners on everything leading to disasters like this, drone deliveries are often the same.

Other false or trivial accusations included a person that stopped in their parking lot to eat, and was harassed after less than ten minutes, and a black Uber driver that was treated like a criminal and searched while a white drive wasn't harassed, and one of their employees was allegedly fired because he left work and went to visit his dying grandmother. One rare occasion is an ex-cop that was sentenced to life for killing someone at Walmart, but this person had left the force years earlier and wasn't on duty when killing someone.

Walmart is "Co-branding" a Medicare Advantage Plan, which everyone should stay away from, but not just because of Walmart. Medicare Advantage plans have been a disaster, and in some cases plans that cut too many corners, especially for poor people that can't afford higher priced supplement plans, have proven, in studies, to have customers that die younger, possibly costing lives. It's not surprising that Walmart wants to get in on this scam.

In addition to the three people killed in accidents related to Walmart's business there were also at least sixteen if not much more major accidents, chases, hit and runs, stolen vehicles, DUIs, including one case where a suspect was charged with attempted murder after trying to run over two women and a dog in the parking lot, another incident resulting in a lock-down at a nearby school, and a driver who beat a pedestrian after an argument about traffic.

Walmart also had at least five more fires last month, few if any that were arson, which is unusual, they almost always have at least a few arsons each month. There were also at least two stabbings and another case where a person attempted to get into someone's car with a knife, but was unable to.

Walmart is now recalling new products almost every day, sometimes several recalls in the same day, with close to if not more than two dozen recalls for a large variety of items last month. I can't help but wonder if we should expect any of their products to be safe anymore. There are also reports of items that are allegedly dangerous that haven't been recalled including air freshener packed with cancer-causing benzene, according to one lawsuit.

Have you ever thought it would be a good idea to steal an older person's money to prevent Walmart's staff from stealing it first? Would that sound like a good excuse if someone got caught?

How many attorneys do you know that also work at Walmart and get fired and disbarred for shoplifting? Can't attorneys afford groceries?

If you won a $167 million lottery would you be able to afford to get drunk anyplace but Walmart to avoid getting arrested there? Think twice, and Google "The Curse Of The Lottery" to find out how many winners do incredible stupid things. If they were good with money they never would have spent it on a rigged game, the extremely rare winners are no better with money when they have it, in fact they often become worse.

Have you ever wondered if it's legal to shoot down delivery drones if they fly over your house? Apparently not, but there are a lot of people tempted to, and a Florida newspaper felt the need to inform people it's illegal. Unfortunately it's difficult if not impossible to get corporations to respect your privacy and restrictions are virtually non-existent for now, the one person that did this so far was forced to pay thousands of dollars for restitution with no accountability for corporations until more people force politicians to respect their views.

Strange things happen at Walmart!

In 2006 Wake Up Walmart did a study, "Is Walmart Safe?" based on incidents in 2004, (PDF) about crime at Walmart which showed that it increased when Walmarts opened up and that crime was higher at Walmart than at other retailers. Since then Walmart Shootings began compiling a list of gun related incidents at Walmart and demonstrated that they have a large number of them, including on average more than one shooting per week somewhere in the country; now after counting them for several years that average is over two per week. In January of 2014 another study, "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" provided additional statistical research indicating that Walmart might be contributing to higher crime rates or at least a slowing of the decline in crime. The study found that. “on average, communities with Walmarts had 17 more property crimes and two more violent crimes per 10,000 people than those communities without Walmarts.” I reviewed this more in Walmart’s crime problem, Rolling Back Safety more than prices? where I explained that although this study is helpful they could have done better with additional data that is available and I reviewed some of that. I also added my own review about why I think that Walmart policies have been contributing to higher crime in a previous blog, Walmart high crime rate continues un-investigaterd and have provided additional information under the author tag Walmart Crime Watch.

Over the past ten to fifteen years Walmart has been increasing the use of self-checkout, and this has corresponded with a steady increase in shoplifting as well as false accusations, yet they refuse to even discuss returning to the use of cashiers. What most people seem to have forgotten was that when they first did this it was on a small scale as an experiment, presumably to see if it worked before expanding it, which would actually make sense, if they slowed it down or reversed it once they saw how many problems it caused. But that's not what they did. Instead the more problems they had the more they increased use of self-checkout, often claiming that instead of hiring more cashiers again, which worked previously, they resorted to more technology and hiring more security to catch people skip scanning or at other forms of theft. This has led to massive amounts of false accusations, in addition to the real thefts, and when the thefts are real, and they get caught, they often resort to violence, so it endangers both Walmart workers and customers.

Now they're acting as if the rise of shoplifting is happening for some inexplicable reason and even asking police to help them solve this problem, as if it wasn't a problem created by their own policies, and most of the media or politicians aren't pointing out the obvious. This is resulting in a massive increase in arrests, court expenses, and prison expenses, which Walmart isn't paying for, effectively meaning we are subsidizing Walmart's high crime problems with tax money. There's no official explanation for why they're behaving so foolishly; but, since this is a for profit corporation it's not hard to speculate about the most likely reason for it, that they're increasing profits for those making the decisions. But, a large portion of the money saved by not hiring cashiers is spent on technology or security to catch thieves; and, if they had to pay the increase in police, courts and prison costs that would reduce or eliminate their savings, and they would almost certainly reverse their policies, because they wouldn't be increasing profits with self-checkout.

This doesn't even include the risk to the health of both their customers and workers when the worst thieves turn violent, in some cases possibly even shooting and killing people. Every year since 2016 has seen more than a hundred shootings at Walmart, and more often than not, this is increasing, while they ignore the causes of their crime problems. These self-checkouts are also making it easier for thieves to put "skimmers" that collect credit or debit card information from customers that enable them to use their cards illegally, but, once again, the customers are stuck with the tab, not Walmart, so they're doing little or nothing to stop this, even though it's a direct result of their bad policies. And furthermore, courts have ruled that Walmart has a right to detain customers even when they have no reason to believe they're shoplifting, if they simply refuse to show receipts, as a matter of principle. At times some lawyers have claimed they need probable cause to ask to see receipts, which, if a customer goes directly from the register, sometimes even when there's a cashier, to the door they can't possibly have. So this means Walmart is under no obligation to assume their paying customers are innocent until proven guilty, which should raise major constitutional questions!

Stacy Mitchell has also compiled a list of other studies about Walmart and how they impact society, Key Studies on Big-Box Retail & Independent Business. To the best of my knowledge Walmart has done as little as they seem to get away with, often relying on rhetoric that isn't backed up with action, when it comes to addressing any of their critics concerns, including crime. One of the responses they’ve come up with is what they call "Restorative Justice" which gives first time shoplifters a chance to avoid being arrested or any criminal record if they take an on line course which costs $400 up front or $500 in payments, plus perhaps, reparations. This has been part of the privatization process and often denies suspects of the due process or access to a lawyer, perhaps even intimidating and extorting from some people that might not even be guilty. Walmart seems to be trying to find a way to turn crime into a profit making situation instead of looking for the most effective ways to reduce it. Making Change at Walmart is asking If you or someone you know has gone through @Walmart's "Restorative Justice" program for first-time suspected shoplifters, send us a DM. 03/30/2017 to ensure that it isn’t doing more harm than good. I did my own review of this program as well at Walmart’s “Restorative Justice” Endangers Public Without Reducing Crime. The following are a list of incidents that occurred in September 2026. According to the "Is Walmart Safe?" the average store in their sampling had 250 incidents per year indicating that these are only a fraction of the crime reports at Walmart, and presumably, the ones most likely to make the news on the internet nationwide. This isn't statistically representative, as the 2006 or the "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" study or some of the studies cited by Stacy Mitchell; but it does provide some additional information that may help recognize how many problems there are at Walmart.

A hacked Walmart account left this Florida woman $2,000 in the hole. Now she's accusing Walmart of reversing her refund 09/03/2026

Florida resident Colleen German is looking for answers and compensation from Walmart after someone hacked her account and charged up $2,000 worth of groceries.

“We don’t have $2,000 just to fork out, you know?” she told WFTV News. “This is a hardship for us.”

German knew something was wrong when she got an email about two food orders totaling more than $2,000 on her account that were ready for pickup. Equally disturbing was the pickup location, which had changed from her local Walmart Supercenter in Titusville to a Walmart three hours away.

German said she called Walmart to alert them about the fraud in order to prevent the pickup and subsequent charges. Unfortunately, someone managed to pick up the orders 45 minutes later.

Walmart then flagged the incident as fraud and advised German to talk to her credit card company to get a refund, which she did. But as she explained to WFTV News, the credit reversal she received was itself reversed. Complete article

ICE agents detain man in west Bloomington Walmart parking lot

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents surrounded a Honda Civic and detained its driver late Tuesday morning in the west-side Walmart parking lot, according to a witness who photographed and filmed the operation.

The photographs show several agents wearing tactical gear marked “ICE” gathered around the blue Honda. Multiple unmarked SUVs were positioned nearby. At least one agent wore a camouflage face covering.

The witness said they arrived shortly after 10 a.m. and saw three black SUVs with obscured license plates. Another vehicle arrived about five minutes later. By then, the witness said, agents had placed a man in the back seat of one of the vehicles.

A woman repeatedly approached and spoke with the agents, although the witness could not confirm her identity or relationship to the detained man. Other bystanders also began recording the operation. Complete article

Amazon to Walmart: The Worst of the ‘Low-Wage 100’ 09/03/2026

Executives at the most profitable companies have enriched themselves while staying silent about ICE attacks on their employees and the shredding of our social safety net.

Low-wage U.S. workers have faced multiple rising threats to their economic and personal security over the past year.

Aggressive actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have terrorized immigrant workers, who are disproportionately represented at the bottom of the corporate ladder. Congress approved the largest cuts in history to public assistance programs that millions of low-wage workers have to rely on to get by. And the Trump administration has attacked diversity, equity, and inclusion programs designed to expand opportunities for disadvantaged employees.

How have the largest employers of low-wage workers responded to these threats? This year’s edition of the annual Institute for Policy Studies’ Executive Excess report takes a look by zeroing in on the 100 S&P 500 firms with the lowest median wages, a group we’ve dubbed the “Low-Wage 100.” The country’s most profitable retailers, fast food chains and hospitality firms dominate the list.

Low-Wage 100 CEOs have remained silent about threats to workers

Our key finding: Low-Wage 100 CEOs have raised nary a peep about ICE attacks on their employees or the gutting of our social safety net. And, with few exceptions, they have obediently rolled back DEI programs. Complete article

Target Pulls Another Halloween Costume, but Walmart Still Sells It 09/01/2026

A Halloween costume marketed as a World War II-era German soldier outfit has sparked criticism online after shoppers discovered it had been sold by Target, Walmart and Amazon.

The costume, made by Orion Costumes and sold as a "German Army Soldier Adult Costume," appears to have been removed from Target and Amazon's websites following complaints on social media. As of Tuesday morning, however, the product remained available for purchase through Walmart.

Critics have argued that the gray military-style uniform evokes Germany's armed forces during World War II and should not be marketed as a Halloween costume. Others have questioned why the product was available through some of the country's largest retailers. Complete article

North Huntingdon Pa. Walmart damaged by post-storm fire, remains closed 09/07/2026

Walmart’s North Huntingdon store remained closed Monday morning as work crews continued to assess and clear damage caused by a smoldering fire that broke out in the aftermath of the severe storms that impacted the region late last week.

Chuck Wolf, an official with the Strawpump Volunteer Fire Department in North Huntingdon, said Monday fire crews arrived at the Walmart at 8:47 p.m on Sept. 4 and found smoke filling the store and a small fire emanating from wires under a counter near where a generator that operated by the pharmacy.

Ten local fire departments responded, said Strawpump Fire Chief Ryan Senica.

Walmart settlement returns nearly $120,000 to app-based Seattle Wash. workers 09/08/2026

SEATTLE — More than 400 Seattle workers will receive nearly $120,000 under a settlement with Walmart over alleged violations of the city’s app-based worker payment law.

Walmart, which operates Spark Delivery, agreed to pay $119,528.29 to 413 affected workers and $2,455.52 to the city, according to the Office of Labor Standards (OLS).

The agency said its investigation found Walmart allegedly failed to meet several requirements under Seattle’s App-Based Worker Minimum Payment Ordinance. The alleged violations included failing to provide workers with the required minimum payment for offers, upfront information, electronic receipts within 24 hours, weekly receipts and notices explaining workers’ rights.

“Thanks to app-based workers coming forward with complaints, the OLS enforcement team was able to investigate and uncover multiple violations of the minimum payment law,” OLS Director Steven Marchese said. Complete article

My First Walmart EV Charging Experience Was A Disaster 09/03/2026

The company's public fast-charging station left me baking in the sun for 40 minutes.

There's perhaps no American retailer better positioned to make electric vehicle charging more ubiquitous than Walmart. It has thousands of stores, enormous parking lots, and millions of customers who already shop there. Now it's taking full advantage, rapidly filing parking lots with fast chargers, even as EV sales are sluggish.

The strategy is gathering serious momentum. Walmart added 368 public fast-charging ports to its stores in the second quarter, more than any network in the U.S. apart from Tesla. Recently, it opened up its 100th owned-and-operated fast-charging station, expanding its footprint to 20 states.

So I went to one in New Jersey to see what it’s actually like to plug in with one of the charging industry's hottest up-and-coming players. The plan was simple: drive my Toyota bZ Woodland press car to Walmart, run our usual 10-80% charging test, hit the grocery store, and grab a snack and an energy drink to savor on the drive back home to Brooklyn.

Here’s what actually happened: I spent 40 minutes at the Walmart charging station, didn’t add a single electron to the press car, and didn’t end up buying groceries because, well, the poor charging experience just killed the mood. Complete article

During their investigation, it would be determined both 30 year old Jamie T. Coville of Cortland, and 19 year old Emilea G. Ward of Homer had collaborated with each other to steal merchandise from the store.

Both Coville and Ward had left the store prior to law enforcement’s arrival, but would be located in the City of Cortland on Owego Street just a short time after.

The Sheriff’s Office says when officers attempted to place Coville into custody, he would resist and obstruct their investigation. The incident also took place in the presence of multiple children, the sheriff’s office says. Ward was taken into custody without incident.

Coville was charged with 4 Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Resisting Arrest, Conspiracy 6th, Petit Larceny, and Obstruction, all misdemeanors. Ward was charged with Petit Larceny and Conspiracy 6th. Complete article

Florida couple charged in alleged $1.1M baby formula theft ring hitting Publix, Target, Walmart stores across the state 09/10/2026

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the arrest of a Lake Worth couple accused of running a multi-circuit organized retail theft enterprise that bought and resold stolen baby formula across the state. Investigators identified more than $1.1 million in revenue from those sales between November 2024 and June 2025.

Mohammed Alsaidi, 59, and Zeina Abdul-Hassan Sou Zabib, 49, are accused of directing a fencing operation that paid professional shoplifters to steal baby formula from major retailers — then stored and resold the merchandise for profit.

“Stealing baby formula away from parents who rely on it to feed their children is unconscionable,” Uthmeier said. “This couple sat at the top of a criminal enterprise that paid thieves to clear Florida shelves and then resold the stolen formula for more than a million dollars in profit. Organized retail theft is not a victimless crime, and we will continue to crack down on these enterprises to keep prices low.” Complete article

Man says he stole elderly woman’s cash to prevent Ohio Walmart staff from doing the same 09/10/2026

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- A woman, 87, said Sept. 2 that she accidentally left her wallet in her cart when she left Walmart earlier and found that it had been turned in, but was missing $247 in cash.

Surveillance video was reviewed and showed that less than a minute after the woman left her cart, a man took the wallet and went through it as he entered the store. He could be seen placing something into his pocket before turning in the wallet at customer service.

The suspect was identified as a Cleveland Heights resident based on his vehicle registration and officers cited the man, 76, at his home for theft. He claimed not to have stolen any money but five days later, he turned in the cash and said that he took it because he feared that a Walmart employee would steal it after he turned in the wallet. Chatham County police arrested a man accused of using AI to create a fake delivery order to steal nearly $1,000 worth of merchandise from a Savannah Walmart.

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. — Chatham County police arrested 20-year-old Dieon Love on Monday for allegedly using artificial intelligence to create a fake delivery order in an attempt to steal merchandise from Walmart on Ogeechee Road in Savannah.

Hadley noted that this was the first time his department had encountered a theft involving AI.

"It stuck out because of the AI component. I just had never heard that before and never seen that before," he said. Complete article

Estée Lauder’s Lawsuit Over Alleged Counterfeits Sold On Walmart Moves Forward, Says Report 09/11/2026

Cosmetics titan The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. (EL) has secured a major procedural victory in its intellectual property dispute against Walmart Inc. (WMT) after a federal judge allowed the company to broaden the scope of its counterfeit lawsuit against the retail giant.

U.S. District Judge Hernan Vera of the Central District of California denied Walmart's motion to dismiss the lawsuit, ruling that Estée Lauder may advance claims that extend past the initial 17 products explicitly verified as fake.

However, Walmart contended that the beauty brand failed to present adequate evidence linking the retail firm to unverified merchandise listed by marketplace vendors. Additionally, the company argued that claims should be limited strictly to tested items, but the court ruled that restriction unjustified at this early stage of litigation. Complete article

Walmart continues stocking air freshener packed with cancer-causing benzene: lawsuit 09/12/2026

A popular Walmart-brand tropical air freshener contains over 117 times the amount of cancer-causing benzene than what’s considered risk-free by federal standards, according to researchers commissioned by a plaintiff in a new lawsuit.

The unsettling findings surfaced in court papers filed on Sept. 1 in Brooklyn Supreme Court accusing the retail giant of selling its Great Value Hawaiian Automatic Air Freshener Spray Refills without warning customers of the risk.

Walmart’s label cautions that the fruity-smelling spray can irritate the eyes and may be harmful or fatal if swallowed. It says nothing about benzene — a chemical linked to leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma. Brands do not typically warn consumers about benzene detected in their products, as it is an unintended byproduct of the chemicals breaking down. Complete article

Children's Bike Helmets Sold on Walmart.com Recalled Because They May Not Stay On During a Crash 09/11/2026

Victgoal is recalling about 40 children's bicycle helmets sold on Walmart.com because they do not meet federal safety requirements, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Sept. 10. The helmets fail the standard's retention system, positional stability, and certification requirements, and CPSC says they can fail to protect a child in a crash.

No injuries have been reported. The recall is small, but it follows a string of federal actions against bike and multi-purpose helmets over the past year, most of them involving helmets sold on Amazon or Walmart.com.

For parents, the concern is basic. A helmet that slides off or whose straps give way during a fall offers little protection, even if the shell looks sturdy. Families who bought an inexpensive helmet online this year have good reason to check the label inside before the next ride. Complete article

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A Cape Coral man was arrested after officers with the Cape Coral Police department say he caused a crash and immediately drove away from the scene while intoxicated.

An arrest report says that officers responded to a home on Southwest 6th Avenue on Sept. 10 in response to a hit-and-run crash that had occurred earlier at the parking lot of the Walmart on Pine Island Road.

The victims told officers that a driver in a black Dodge Ram backed into their vehicle in the parking lot and drove away from the scene. The victims also said that the suspect was driving away at a high speed.

Officers attempted to locate the owner of the registered Dodge truck, Scott Logan Lambert, 48, at his home but he was not there, the report says. Complete article

Sheriff’s office warns of Walmart delivery scam targeting East Tennesseans 09/17/2026

HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a new way scammers are using Walmart orders to take advantage of East Tennesseans.

According to the sheriff’s office, there have been reports in Hamblen County of Walmart orders being made on victims’ accounts without their knowledge. The packages are then delivered to the victims’ homes, and the scammers wait nearby and watch for the packages to be delivered, the sheriff’s office said.

Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sgt. Trevor Snowden explained that the scammer will approach their victims and say they are either from Walmart or a contracted delivery service and the order was delivered to the wrong address, at which point they retrieve the package and leave.

“Don’t ever hand over items to someone simply because they claim to be from Wal-Mart,” Snowden stated. “If you receive a Wal-Mart delivery you did not order, you should immediately contact the store through their app, store or website and report a fraudulent order.” Complete article

Canadian Walmart Workers Make History: A Union Contract 09/17/2026

Eight hundred workers at a Walmart distribution center in Mississauga, Ontario, succeeded where others have not: they are now working under a two-year contract with North America’s largest logistics giant.

The landmark collective bargaining agreement went into effect on July 1, nearly two years after workers won union representation, joining Unifor Local 252, motivated by low wages and unsafe working conditions.

As punishment two years ago, Walmart bumped the pay of every logistics worker in Canada—except those who unionized. This was an effective maneuver to halt further union drives.

“Walmart gave all the wage increases to all the non-union folks, and everything fell apart,” said Angela Drew Kimelman, a Unifor organizer who worked on organizing campaigns at multiple warehouses, including one in Cornwall, near Montreal.

But now, the new contract prevents Walmart from raising wages at other warehouses without doing the same at this one. The unionized workers have received a matching raise, and back pay for the months when other warehouse workers received raises that they didn’t. Complete article

Senators Ask FTC to Probe Walmart and Amazon Over Bots’ ‘Made in America’ Data 09/17/2026

Two senators are asking the Federal Trade Commission to investigate how Amazon and Walmart’s AI-powered shopping chatbots handle “Made in the USA” claims with shoppers.

Sens. Tammy Baldwin (D., Wis.) and Rick Scott (R., Fla.) said in a letter to FTC Chairman Andrew N. Ferguson and Commissioner Mark R. Meador that the bots may “obscure and suppress” information about which products are made in the U.S. and which falsely claim to be made there.

They cited a July report from Columbia University’s Center for Law and the Economy—a new policy center co-founded by former FTC Chair Lina Khan—that said Amazon’s Alexa and Walmart’s Sparky sideline data regarding products’ American-origin claims while providing information about products made in other countries.

“We all share the goal of strengthening American manufacturing and small businesses through initiatives such as Made in USA labeling, all while ensuring consumers receive accurate information about where the products they buy are made,” the senators wrote, encouraging the agency to consider unnamed enforcement measures following an investigation. A Florida woman placed an order for curbside pickup at Walmart. She ended up doing the shopping herself and found items that were previously marked as “unavailable” by an employee fully available—right on the shelf.

Brenda Joseph (@rodwaveandcocacola) shared a video with over 2.4 million views. In the clip, she tosses items into her shopping basket. According to the caption, Joseph placed an order for pickup but ended up going into the store herself after several items were marked “unavailable.”

In her video, she appears to be making up for the missing items one by one. She adds to her basket what she had apparently expected to receive through curbside pickup.

The woman claims the experience left her so frustrated that she planned to make it her first and last time using Walmart’s curbside pickup service. Complete article

Attorney disbarred after stealing $385 in food from La. Walmart where he worked 09/21/2026

A Louisiana attorney who previously was suspended has been disbarred and banned from Walmart after stealing $385 in food and beverages while working at the store.

The Louisiana Supreme Court ruled unanimously Sept. 16 to disbar Samuel Robert Aucoin. He was found guilty of stealing from a Walmart in Lafayette, Louisiana, while employed there. He also has a long history of discipline as an attorney, the Acadiana Advocate reports.

The Louisiana Office of Disciplinary Counsel of the Louisiana Supreme Court’s Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board alleged that Aucoin violated the rules of professional conduct and committed a criminal act reflecting adversely on the lawyer’s honesty, trustworthiness or fitness.

A hearing committee agreed, noting that Aucoin had a prior disciplinary record, a pattern of misconduct, a dishonest or selfish motive and illegal conduct, according to the Acadiana Advocate. He also exhibited no remorse for his criminal conduct, court records show. Complete article

‘I’m so mad’: Kentucky woman breaks down after Walmart accuses her of stealing after a self-checkout glitch. So they banned her for 12 months 09/21/2026

Self-checkout can make shopping faster, but one small glitch can create a much bigger problem. Especially when a customer does not realize something went wrong.

A missed scan can quickly become an accusation. When a customer believes everything went through, proving it was an honest mistake may not be so simple.

“I’m so mad,” Morgan (@morgyped) said as she shared her experience on TikTok after shopping at a Walmart in Glasgow, Kentucky. She claims a self-checkout problem left three packs of eyelashes unpaid, even though she tried to scan them. Walmart then banned her for 12 months.

Then came the part she didn’t expect

Morgan says she went to Walmart on August 7 because she needed eyelashes for a wedding she was working the next day. Her children were with her, and she had several other things to buy. She later clarified that her total order was around $100. Complete article

Security guard harasses Oregon woman eating in her car at Walmart parking lot, declares it’s unacceptable: ‘I’ve been here less than 10 minutes’ 09/21/2026

Sitting in your parked car to enjoy a quick bite before running retail errands is a universal ritual for busy shoppers. But for Oregon content creator Jackie (@gordacorajuda), a quick ten-minute meal break in a Walmart parking lot allegedly invited unwarranted intimidation from the security.

In a viral TikTok storytime that has racked up over 135,000 views, Jackie called out the absurdity of private security personnel harassing paying customers. She left home for an ordinary errand run at Walmart, but came back allegedly deciding to boycott the store. All thanks to an aggressive standoff over her simply eating in her own front seat.

Businesses should understand that their asphalt space should welcome shoppers, not trap them under a security spotlight. Jackie’s experience and her eventual decision to leave the lot without shopping prove how overzealous security teams alienate everyday retail shoppers. If stores want paying customers inside their aisles, their parking enforcement teams need to leave peaceful drivers alone. Complete article

Black Uber driver furious after Walmart staff searched her car without consent, then refused to release her order: ‘You put your hands on me’ 09/22/2026

Picking up a delivery order should be simple. A driver arrives, gets the order, and leaves. But one Black Uber driver says a Walmart pickup turned into questions about why employees were checking her car.

A vehicle check may be understandable in some situations. But the driver questioned why she seemed to be getting extra scrutiny while another driver apparently was not.

Mrs.VickkieLee (@imakeeverythingaboutrace) shared the confrontation on TikTok after arriving at a Walmart in Morris, Illinois. She claims employees inspected her vehicle before refusing to give her three Uber orders. “Y’all have opened down my doors and inspected my car,” she said.

She wanted to know why

In the video, Mrs.VickkieLee repeatedly questioned why employees had inspected her vehicle. She also pointed to another driver nearby who did not appear to be receiving the same treatment. “Then why aren’t you doing it to his car?” she asked. Complete article

Senators Call on the FTC to Investigate Claims Against Walmart and Amazon’s AI Chatbots 09/21/2026

The move follows a report that these online shopping tools are intentionally making it difficult to buy American-made on their platforms.

The chatbots run on artificial intelligence on Walmart and Amazon’s retail platforms are getting some attention from the U.S. Senate.

Sens. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.) and Rick Scott (R-Fla.) are calling on the Federal Trade Commission to investigate after a July report released by Columbia University researchers contended the AI-powered shopping assistants at the two enormous retailers were obscuring American-made product options while promoting imports.

“If Americans want to buy products made in America, Amazon and Walmart should be helping them, not giving away their business to foreign knockoffs,” Sen. Baldwin told the Wall Street Journal. Complete article

Man Goes To Buy Tires At Walmart. Then He Checks The Fine Print: ‘Don’t Purchase Those!’ 09/20/2026

"As someone who used to work at Walmart automotive..."

A customer recently went to the tire section of his local Walmart and read out the four-digit codes stamped into the sidewalls of tires there. Here’s why.

Chris (@kingskid80), who lives in North Texas and whose TikTok channel is mostly focused on his immaculate 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, posted the 51-second clip, which has since drawn more than 592,500 views. “PSA: if you buy tires at walmart or really anywhere,” reads the text across the screen.

“What you need to be careful for is, say, you go to buy some new tires,” he says. “This DOT number—that’s the date they were manufactured.” The first one he points at reads 1823: “The 18th week of 2023; so those are already over three years old.”

Next is a General Altimax, made in Ecuador, stamped 2918. “Check this one: the 29th week of 2018,” he says. “Crazy.” A third is from the 20th week of 2021. He ends by noting the date he is filming, Sept. 11. .....

Is It Legal To Sell An 8-Year-Old Tire?

Selling eight-year-old tires as brand new is totally legal under U.S. federal law. .....

But while the FTC used to have specific rules about tire advertising, these were rescinded in 2004.

Oddly, NHTSA’s consumer guidance warns that “as tires age, they are more prone to failure,” and that “some vehicle and tire manufacturers recommend replacing tires that are six to 10 years old, regardless of treadwear.” The agency also warns that “you cannot detect tire aging simply by looking at your tires.”

That advice is based on what happens to tires in storage. Tires kept “in direct sunlight, in extreme heat or cold” break down faster than tires “wrapped and kept in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment,” according to that same letter.

‘Don’t Purchase Those!’

“Selling a tire made in 2018 is WILD!!!” wrote bella.bionda.3 in a comment.

Bendeebradshaw wrote, “Yes, dry rot is an actual thing. Even if they have never seen a car. Don’t purchase those!” Complete article

1996 Sheryl Crow Album, Banned From Walmart Over 1 Lyric, Made It to 30 Without Changing a Word 09/24/2026

Walmart never even asked her to change it.

If you owned Sheryl Crow in the fall of 1996, odds are you bought it for “If It Makes You Happy.” That one went Top 10 and won her a Grammy.

Walmart wouldn’t stock it. Not the album, and not the single either. The album turns 30 today, and the line that got it banned is still sitting exactly where she put it.

Walmart refused to carry the record over a single line in “Love Is a Good Thing,” where Sheryl Crow sings about children killing each other with guns bought at the chain’s discount stores. UPI reported the ban on Sept. 10, 1996, a full two weeks before the album reached stores.

The company’s answer was short. A spokesman said Walmart “believes this is an unfair, untrue and totally irresponsible comment,” and noted the chain had stopped selling handguns and kept strict policies against selling to minors. Complete article

The male passenger stopped when police told him to, but the female driver walked away. Officers later found her and identified her as Faith Miranda Rhoads, 26, of Eugene. The car's owner had reported it stolen at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 16. He told police he had been with Rhoads at Abby's Pizza on Echo Hollow Road when she said she was going to leave. When he went to leave later, he noticed his keys and car were gone. Rhoads stopped responding to him.

On Monday, the male passenger said he didn't know the car was stolen. He said Rhoads had picked him up and the two had traveled to Ashland.

Police arrested Rhoads for unlawful use of a car. Officers found nearly three grams of a white crystal-like substance and a glass pipe in the car. Both tested positive for methamphetamine in field tests. Rhoads was also arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of methamphetamine. She was booked into the Lane County Jail. Jail records show Rhoads is in custody as of Sept. 28. Complete article

US judge rejects class action over Energizer, Walmart battery prices 09/29/2026

WASHINGTON, Sept 29 (Reuters) - A federal judge has refused to grant class action status to consumer and wholesale purchaser lawsuits alleging Energizer (ENR.N), opens new tab and retail giant Walmart (WMT.O), opens new tab conspired to keep disposable battery prices artificially high.

US District ‌Judge P. Casey Pitts in San Jose said in a ruling, opens new tab on Monday that three groups of buyers must pursue their claims individually because they had not shown key legal and factual issues were common across the proposed classes.

The lawsuits filed in 2023 alleged Energizer, facing pressure from Walmart, agreed to raise the wholesale prices it charged to other direct-purchase customers in order to allow Walmart to offer lower retail prices.

The ruling is a blow for now to the lawyers who had urged the court to certify classes totaling many millions of purchasers. Companies can face added pressures to settle certified class actions, since they can allow for higher recoveries than when individuals sue on their own.

Energizer and Walmart declined to comment. They have denied any wrongdoing, saying there was no unlawful agreement to suppress ‌competition and fix battery prices. Complete article
