Apparently even Google AI agrees that this book was propaganda to glorify the assassinations of terror suspects, although they don't attribute it to the Mossad. But, if it was the Mossad, there might be some things they wouldn't want reported to the public, like the fact that the "spy who came in from the cold" identified as Avner when the book came out and later identified as Yuval Aviv's father was disappointed with the Mossad and seemed to think they betrayed or abandoned him, and at the end of the book members of the Mossad allegedly threatened Avner's daughter, smearing the reputation of the Mossad, and Avner responded by doing the same to their families, or the families of those he suspected, showing he was no better.
You would think if this was Mossad Propaganda they wouldn't allow this in the book. Nevertheless, the majority of the book and probably Steven Spielberg’s 2005 film "Munich," which was based on the book seems to glorify the assassinations and acts as if they're opposed to terrorism, while the Palestinians support it heavily and intentionally. This, of course requires a heavily censored version of history which most mainstream media and the text of this book adopts, although there is a brief mention of what he called Zionist extremists, which was allegedly condemned by moderate Zionists, between 1944 and 1948, including at least four assassinations including Lord Moyne and Count Bernadotte, several other attempts to send letter bombs and the attack on the King David Hotel. This is supposed to give the impression that their history using terrorism was very short and they were quick to condemn it. The problem is, as anyone familiar with Zionist history knows, is that this is at best misleading if not an outright false description of history.
George Jonas only mentions a minuscule fraction of Zionist terrorist activities and then only in the source notes, which few people read, and he doesn't mention the fact that Israel created their state by terrorizing and expelling 750,000 Palestinians, while killing 15,000 Palestinians so they could steal their land, nor does he mention the fact that the planning for this theft, mass murder, ethnic cleansing and other atrocities was planned decades ahead of time, before the Holocaust, as I pointed out in The Planning For The Nakba Is A Matter of Public Record! which cites numerous Zionist sources to support this conclusions, and many other researchers add to that evidence. This is one of over two dozen articles I've written on the subject, most since the October 7th attack, and I also compiled a Bibliography of Books on Israel History & Credible Alternative News Outlets since not only is Israel, the Mossad, and other Pro-Israel organizations providing an enormous amount of propaganda for them, but mainstream media virtually never tries to report on the best history of this, or any other wars based on lies, so we have to seek other sources ourselves.
I've gone into the bias in favor of Israel in several previous articles, including some that show Jews or Zionists have more than their share of representation in the media than they do in the general public, including the fact that four out of five of the CEOs for the five biggest media outlets are Jewish, even though they're only about 2.4% of the population. I've also explained that they often claim that saying "the Jews control the media" is commonly referred to as an "antisemitic trope" and that the source for this is "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" but this is misleading, since many of us don't claim Jews have complete control of the media, just that they have more than their share of it, and we often use other sources. On one occasion Grok made this claim to a question and admitted it wasn't applicable to my comments. This conversation is posted here when I asked Grok Are the vast majority of victims of various forms of racism lower income people? 11/01/2025 Grok said they were but this was followed up by a question about if Jews were an exception, which Grok said was the case, another follow-up question was about over-representation by Jews in Congress and the media and Grok initially said despite over representation it was "a classic antisemitic trope rooted in Protocols of the Elders of Zion forgery." Then after I questioned this Grok admitted "You're absolutely right—I shouldn't have implied you cited or relied on The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. That was incorrect and unfair. You made a factual observation about Jewish over-representation in media and politics, and raised questions about influence, firings, and narrative control—all legitimate topics for discussion, even if controversial." In their effort to refute alleged claims of "antisemitism" they often ignore the truth; in many cases racism or stereotypes often have a piece of the truth in them, but exaggerate them, or stereotypes might apply to some members of a certain group, but not others, which is the case with Zionists, and many of the people pointing out these flaws are often other Jews, including Jewish Voices for Peace, which Jonathan Greenblatt falsely accused of being a hate group, not because they hate anyone, but because they support equal right for all people, including Palestinians, while Zionist oppose equal rights for Palestinians and even support mass murder of them and theft of their land. I pointed out that "even Herzl admitted that Jews have more control of some media than their percentage of the population and that continues to be the case today" which was supported by a reply from Google AI, although I couldn't remember the source when I wrote this, so instead of initially finding it I just asked Google AI again, and it denied it, which surprised me, so I searched for the original source which said the following:

When I asked a follow up question, which I posted below Google AI acknowledged the fact that Herzl claimed they entered "liberal professions" including journalism "to escape exclusion from other fields." It was true, of course that their control of the media was exaggerated by antisemites at the time, but they still had more than their share of control even if they didn't control all of it; the fact that the antisemites were able to spread the false or misleading Protocols of the Elders of Zion proves they also had some control of the media which Jews couldn't prevent. But now the evidence shows that when it comes to mainstream media, which controls the majority of the media, Zionists, not necesarily all Jews, really do control almost all media and those reporting more accurate history of Zionism and Israel, including many anti-Zionist Jews, are relegated to alternative media. In mainstream media and, often including artificial intelligence which relies on mainstream media for sources, they've repeated the dismissal of many claims as "antisemitic tropes" so often that they skip over the part where they check facts and find out if they're exaggerations, outright lies, or, in some cases the truth, which gives Zionists false defenses and opportunities to spread their own bigotry. George Jonas, Avner, the Mossad and other pro-Israel sources wouldn't be nearly as effective with their propaganda if this weren't the case, going back decades, at least to the eighties when the book was written or the seventies when the Munich massacre happened and their vengeful assassination campaign began.
In fact, the first time I read this book, which was one of the first books I read, if not the first one about Israel, I probably fell for at least some of their propaganda, but even then I would have had doubts about assassinations without due process, and the killing of innocents getting in the way. At the time the only books I remember reading about Israel shortly after this, or possibly shortly before, were fictional books by Len Uris, which I considered realistic fiction at the time, but now recognize as Pro-Israel propaganda misrepresenting real history and the fact that Zionists created Israel by terrorizing, murdering, expelling Palestinians and stealing their land. I first read this approximately 30 to 40 years ago, probably more than 35 years, but I still remembered a surprising amount before I reread it, including the claim that they were trained to use 22s instead of larger guns because they were quieter, and that they should always fire twice, Pffm-pffm, that they decided to drop everything and go after Ali Hassan Salimeh if they got a tip about him, but their mission was terminated before others assassinated him, and a significant amount, especially from the beginning of the book came back to me as soon as I read it. Presumably I had never heard of Ariel Sharon or Golda Mier when I first read it because I was surprised to read about Avner's alleged meeting with them in the beginning, and if I knew who they were at the time it's unlikely I would have forgotten that while remembering other things.
Now that I've reread it online when I could Google some things there's little doubt that large portions, if not all of it, are false, but to be effective propaganda doesn't have to be true, it just has to convince people it's true and get their views across, which it presumably did in the eighties when it came out and years if not decades later, through at least until Steven Spielberg’s 2005 film "Munich" came out, for people that aren't well informed. Even when it first came out well informed people would see right through it, but since mainstream media does such a terrible job reporting history and current events about Israel and many other subjects only a small percentage of the public were well informed then or now.
They claimed to have successfully assassinated eight out of the nine people on their list, not including Ali Hassan Salimeh or the second one on the list, although they may have come close to finding them on a botched raid that was supposed to be a scouting mission first possibly called up by a call for back-ups but they encountered three armed men not on their list and killed them before encountering three unarmed priests and abandoning the mission. They claimed Ali Hassan Salimeh and Abu Daoud weren't there, but their source claimed they were, they didn't stick around to confirm this, and the targets would have been tipped off, assuming this story is true. Avner also claimed they found out who one of the replacements for one of the people on the list and allegedly assassinated, and added that person to the list and killed him without approval.
The fact that they abandoned their mission after encountering three unarmed priests without finding out if their targets were there is supposedly part of the reason they claim they're better than the terrorists, but there are several problems with this assumption. For starters, perhaps the bigger reason they abandoned it was they weren't prepared to go against a large force, and were only forced to escalate after being discovered by an armed before encountering the priests.
When they were being briefed for this plan they were told that if they only killed three of the targets on their list, but didn't kill any innocent people their employers would have been disappointed, but tehy would have "done no wrong," if they didn't kill any of the targets the mission would be a total failure and a waste, but if they still didn't kill any innocents they would have "done no wrong;" but if they got all the people on the list and killed one or more innocent people then they would have "done wrong." This is supposedly what makes them better than the terrorists, or so they want us to believe. And when Avner and his team carried out their mission they mostly abides by this except for when they killed at least four armed Arabs, possibly killing one armed person they suspected of being a KGB agent, and killing a woman they suspected of killing one of their team members.
When Avner was debriefed and told his superiors about this the only killing they disagreed with was the woman they suspected of killing a team member, and even then they had no strong objections and certainly didn't consider pressing charges or reporting it publicly. This is presumably because the others might have been attributed to "self-defense" which isn't a right people have when they're on assassination mission and in the process of killing people without trial, but this is Israel's perverse interpretation of "self-defense" which often gets much worse since they now routinely kill thousands of children after October seventh while claiming it's part of what they call "self-defense" and this goes back much further, as people familiar with history know. They claimed to be using "self-defense" during the Nakba when they were the ones initiating the war and stealing land from Palestinians, and use this claim repeatedly since then, yet mainstream media doesn't call them out on this. Mainstream media of course called out the Nazis when they falsely used the "self-defense" claim, but not allies like Israel or our own government when they do the same thing.
These examples are flawed enough, but Avner's team didn't kill any more obvious innocent civilians; although they did mention finding out about another team that did, and they were shocked. But the book ignores a much longer history of Zionist atrocities, including mass murder of civilians from the Nakba to the current genocide, and even a long history of illegal activities including many assassinations, even of other Jews like Jacob Israรซl de Haan, who was killed in 1924 by Zionists presumably for opposing Zionism, which at that time involved planning the theft of Palestinian land, and the assassin allegedly got the order from a couple high ranking members of the Zionist leadership close to David Ben-Gurion; in "A State At Any Cost" Tom Segev indicates some people thought they wouldn't give the order without consulting with Ben-Gurion, but he denied finding evidence showing Ben-Gurion wanted him dead. This also includes an incredibly long list of other assassinations and terrorists activities that are too extensive to mention here, but they are listed by sources in my Bibliography mentioned above.
The effectiveness of this propaganda heavily relies on keeping the majority of the public ignorant of the true history of Zionism and Israel, which mainstream media enables by being so incredibly incompetent.
However, even though the details about these alleged assassinations from this book may not be credible there's no doubt that Israel or Zionists really has arranged numerous hit squads throughout their history, some going back decades before the creation of their State, like Jacob Israรซl de Haan and many more during their terrorist attacks in the 1930s and 1940s, including Folke Bernadotte, Lord Moyne and many more less notable people killed, ans shown by many other sources, including many listed by Ronen Bergman in "Rise and Kill First" which is mostly more reliable than "Vengeance" and many more recent assassinations during the War started on October 7th, some while they were pretending to negotiate ceasefires. The amazing thing is that now there are a stunning number of high profile people bragging and laughing about these illegal assassinations without trial that often kill a large number of civilians, despite Avner and George Jonas's false claims they try to avoid them almost at all costs, including John Fetterman laughing about a pager memorializing assassinations, that often kill many civilians, including children, or Lindsey Graham laughing and bragging about how "We're killing all the right people," even though there are no trials or ways to check see if this is true, assuming it's justifiable to kill anyone, which it isn't.
However, despite many flaws in this book and serious credibility problems there was clearly someone that wanted to get this book published and promoted it enough to get it onto the best sellers list. If it was the Mossad, as I said in the beginning, why would they write about the Mossad allegedly threatening Avner's family and having him respond using the same means? Few people may think about this but it demonstrates something about a potential motive. And regardless of the credibility problems judging by some reviews a stunning number of people not only believe it but they agree that the assassinations are justified, presumably because they haven't read the full history of this conflict and don't seem to understand that it leads to endless war, retaliation and more violence.
Can't people understand that if they cheer on vengeance it could just as easily be turned against themselves, especially since a shocking percentage of the public doesn't feel the need to check facts.
Another possibility is that those creating this propaganda are constantly studying how to manipulate the public and these reviews to this or many polls and focus groups enable them to understand how effective their propaganda is. This should raise an amazing question about what they expect to happen if they convince people to act on their lies and propaganda; it's guaranteed to lead to many bad decisions based on lies, including wars which have been non-stop for decades going long before these assassinations.
Are we being ruled by people who can't see that non-stop wars based on lies combined with epidemic environmental damage and many other social problems will inevitably, eventually, lead to the destruction of our society, or Ecocide, which may be irreversible?
