Walmart Crime Report August 2024

Walmart had at least ten or eleven shootings in August 2024, including at least four fatal shootings, and one of these fatal shootings wasn't widely reported until almost two weeks after it happened, adding to a growing amount of evidence that even shootings with critical injuries aren't being reported promptly, in this case the victim was hospitalized for a while before dying, but they knew from the beginning that his life was in danger. One of these shootings was actually at McDonald's, which was in a connected parking lot, so it was still very close; another one involved a fight where people on Social Media claim shots were fired, but police didn't confirm it so this is the possible inconclusive eleventh shooting.

There were also three arrests of shooting suspects from events that happened before the suspects came to Walmart, including teens target shooting cactus, and leaving a state park, a murder suspect that killed someone and traveled 400 miles before getting caught the next day at Walmart, and an armed robber that fired a shot at a different store before escaping, trying to rob Walmart and getting arrested without a shooting or conclusive evidence he was an armed threat at Walmart. One of the suspects of a fatal shooting was a former police officer that hadn't worked for the KC police in ten years, and is now charged with murder, another of the shootings was an active police officer shooting, but not killing a suspect. There was also a fatal shooting less than a mile from a Dallas Walmart, but unrelated to their business, that resulted in one officer killed, two other injured, and after a chase over thirty miles the suspect was killed by police.

In addition to the four people killed in shootings there were two more bodies found on their property, one employee that died from a "freak accident or medical incident," one dead in a vehicle fire, and one person stabbed to death for a total of at least nine dead. Stabbings happen just about every month, but stabbing deaths are usually very rare, although they've been more common in the past several months than usual.

There have also been at least three more major gun crimes, probably much more, but the fact that so few show up in traditional news indicates that Google may not be promoting most crimes nearly as much as it used to, since it's highly unlikely that it has dropped this much. One Fla. Walmart customer went on a rampage after committing a minor because he figured he might as well make it worthwhile if he's going to jail anyway; another Texas old man went "Buck Wild in a brawl. There were a large variety of other crimes, including one suspect sentenced to five years in jail for fraudulent returns, which means taxpayers are footing a large bill to deter shoplifting, but doing nothing to stop wage theft or other white collar crimes committed by the rich.

Have you ever shown of stolen jewelry on Social Media and gotten arrested for it? Does jewelry even have any real value, or is it only based on hyped up advertising to convince people it's worth an enormous amount of money? contrary to many claims it's certainly not an "investment" and family jewels or stolen jewelry can only be sold for a fraction of it's value, as anyone that has looked into the subject knows, there's even an Atlantic article that was turned into a book, Have You Ever Tried to Sell a Diamond? And Other Investigations of the Diamond Trade By Edward Jay Epstein explaining how the entire diamond trade is a scam, and it does far more damage to society, increasing abuse of miners in poor countries, often children working under a state of virtual slavery, and dramatically increases crime all over the illusion of value.

There were also many more assaults, robberies, break ins, alleged extortion, and more credit card skimming devices, which are now found every month, especially at self-checkout registers. There were more co-workers fighting each other and possible excessive force cases by police, including one case when they held someone in a choke-hold for alleged self-checkout theft.

Complaints about self-checkout, or extreme theft prevention measures now go viral every month, yet they're only cutting back modestly on this, while they continued to expand it for years if not well over a decade when they first had evidence showing it was a dismal failure. There were close to if not more than a dozen major accidents, hit and runs, rollovers, auto thefts or other automobile related crimes. There were at least two more arsons, and a couple more stabbings and a third attempted stabbing.

Walmart had at least four more recalls including produce that may not be safe, apple juice with arsenic, portable car-booster seats that may put kids at risk, and candy with a risk of salmonella poisoning, which was upgraded and reported more widely than most recalls, although even this isn't widely reported enough for most people to know. It was only a month or two when the same thing happened with an E-coli-scare. In addition to the official recalls one woman is warning about halloween candy that should be recalled and may not have, and inspection showed moldy meat in Florida, which they handled locally; and the CPSC warned people to stop using magnetic chess pieces, especially with small children, because if swallowed it could cause serious harm or kill them. They recommended a recall but the manufacturer refused to do so, and even though Walmart claimed the health of their customers is their highest priority and they can easily afford to fund a recall, they refused to do so either. Manufacturers have been getting squeezed more and more every year since the market became so concentrated, and Walmart forced their suppliers to cut so many corners that it's possible that a recall could bankrupt the manufacturer, which is a recipe for disaster, especially when Walmart practically never takes responsibility for their problems.

Walmart was also sued because a restocking cart slammed into her, and it wasn't being handled properly by those stocking the store, which may have been employees of the manufacturers, not Walmart. This may not seem to make sense, unless you understand slotting fees which many suppliers use to reserve space for their products, and the fact that they often send their own employees to Walmart to stalk shelves. Big-box stores have basically become consignment stores, where they try to avoid any risks with guaranteed profits, mostly successfully.

Fortunately another one of their automated plans has been stopped in three states, where drones will no longer be used, leaving Texas as the only state using them until they become profitable. Recently someone in Florida shot down a drone and there have been an enormous amount of other complaints, but that's not why they scaled back drones; the reason they cancelled them in Florida, Utah and Arizona is they weren't profitable. Regulators didn't stop them, nor did concern for the will of the people, and if they become profitable, perhaps by cutting corners they'll expand them again, even though several have crashed, two that caused fires, and one person was charged with shooting one down with many more threatening to do so because they don't want them flying over their property, but Walmart simply doesn't seem to care about the will of the people, their customers, workers, or anyone else.

It's now routine for stories about Walmart overcharging people to go viral just about every month including a customer that she was charged an extra $6 at self-checkout; and there's also a class action lawsuit claiming they charge more than advertised. I rarely go there at all, except when there's no reasonable option, or a few times when I got gift cards, and I saw this myself and called it on the spot, and they reluctantly gave me the price they advertised, especially since I had doubt when I saw two different prices and asked a worker if this was the price, and they didn't seem to understand why I asked, and confirmed the lower price in front of them.

They caught a lot of office workers off-guard by forcing them to relocate to another part of the country, with little or no compensation, or lose their jobs. They also lost a law suite for advertising recycled bags when they couldn't be recycled; they got caught throwing away good products, in this case bottled water, despite destruction of the environment or inefficiency, which they claim to reduce. One store was found to have a bed bug problem, which they claim to have solved, but these problems keep coming up; and another store was closed for a chemical spill.

Have you ever assumed that you could drive off with their handicapped electronic shopping carts? This has happened repeatedly, including last month.

Have you ever ordered a Walmart delivery and had them dump it on your sidewalk, taking a picture of it to prove it was delivered? If so, you're not the only one.

Strange things happen at Walmart!

In 2006 Wake Up Walmart did a study, "Is Walmart Safe?" based on incidents in 2004, (PDF) about crime at Walmart which showed that it increased when Walmarts opened up and that crime was higher at Walmart than at other retailers. Since then Walmart Shootings began compiling a list of gun related incidents at Walmart and demonstrated that they have a large number of them, including on average more than one shooting per week somewhere in the country; now after counting them for several years that average is over two per week. In January of 2014 another study, "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" provided additional statistical research indicating that Walmart might be contributing to higher crime rates or at least a slowing of the decline in crime. The study found that. “on average, communities with Walmarts had 17 more property crimes and two more violent crimes per 10,000 people than those communities without Walmarts.” I reviewed this more in Walmart’s crime problem, Rolling Back Safety more than prices? where I explained that although this study is helpful they could have done better with additional data that is available and I reviewed some of that. I also added my own review about why I think that Walmart policies have been contributing to higher crime in a previous blog, Walmart high crime rate continues un-investigaterd and have provided additional information under the author tag Walmart Crime Watch.

Over the past ten to fifteen years Walmart has been increasing the use of self-checkout, and this has corresponded with a steady increase in shoplifting as well as false accusations, yet they refuse to even discuss returning to the use of cashiers. What most people seem to have forgotten was that when they first did this it was on a small scale as an experiment, presumably to see if it worked before expanding it, which would actually make sense, if they slowed it down or reversed it once they saw how many problems it caused. But that's not what they did. Instead the more problems they had the more they increased use of self-checkout, often claiming that instead of hiring more cashiers again, which worked previously, they resorted to more technology and hiring more security to catch people skip scanning or at other forms of theft. This has led to massive amounts of false accusations, in addition to the real thefts, and when the thefts are real, and they get caught, they often resort to violence, so it endangers both Walmart workers and customers.

Now they're acting as if the rise of shoplifting is happening for some inexplicable reason and even asking police to help them solve this problem, as if it wasn't a problem created by their own policies, and most of the media or politicians aren't pointing out the obvious. This is resulting in a massive increase in arrests, court expenses, and prison expenses, which Walmart isn't paying for, effectively meaning we are subsidizing Walmart's high crime problems with tax money. There's no official explanation for why they're behaving so foolishly; but, since this is a for profit corporation it's not hard to speculate about the most likely reason for it, that they're increasing profits for those making the decisions. But, a large portion of the money saved by not hiring cashiers is spent on technology or security to catch thieves; and, if they had to pay the increase in police, courts and prison costs that would reduce or eliminate their savings, and they would almost certainly reverse their policies, because they wouldn't be increasing profits with self-checkout.

This doesn't even include the risk to the health of both their customers and workers when the worst thieves turn violent, in some cases possibly even shooting and killing people. Every year since 2016 has seen more than a hundred shootings at Walmart, and more often than not, this is increasing, while they ignore the causes of their crime problems. These self-checkouts are also making it easier for thieves to put "skimmers" that collect credit or debit card information from customers that enable them to use their cards illegally, but, once again, the customers are stuck with the tab, not Walmart, so they're doing little or nothing to stop this, even though it's a direct result of their bad policies. And furthermore, courts have ruled that Walmart has a right to detain customers even when they have no reason to believe they're shoplifting, if they simply refuse to show receipts, as a matter of principle. At times some lawyers have claimed they need probable cause to ask to see receipts, which, if a customer goes directly from the register, sometimes even when there's a cashier, to the door they can't possibly have. So this means Walmart is under no obligation to assume their paying customers are innocent until proven guilty, which should raise major constitutional questions!

Stacy Mitchell has also compiled a list of other studies about Walmart and how they impact society, Key Studies on Big-Box Retail & Independent Business. To the best of my knowledge Walmart has done as little as they seem to get away with, often relying on rhetoric that isn't backed up with action, when it comes to addressing any of their critics concerns, including crime. One of the responses they’ve come up with is what they call "Restorative Justice" which gives first time shoplifters a chance to avoid being arrested or any criminal record if they take an on line course which costs $400 up front or $500 in payments, plus perhaps, reparations. This has been part of the privatization process and often denies suspects of the due process or access to a lawyer, perhaps even intimidating and extorting from some people that might not even be guilty. Walmart seems to be trying to find a way to turn crime into a profit making situation instead of looking for the most effective ways to reduce it. Making Change at Walmart is asking If you or someone you know has gone through @Walmart's "Restorative Justice" program for first-time suspected shoplifters, send us a DM. 03/30/2017 to ensure that it isn’t doing more harm than good. I did my own review of this program as well at Walmart’s “Restorative Justice” Endangers Public Without Reducing Crime. The following are a list of incidents that occurred in August 2024. According to the "Is Walmart Safe?" the average store in their sampling had 250 incidents per year indicating that these are only a fraction of the crime reports at Walmart, and presumably, the ones most likely to make the news on the internet nationwide. This isn't statistically representative, as the 2006 or the "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" study or some of the studies cited by Stacy Mitchell; but it does provide some additional information that may help recognize how many problems there are at Walmart.

Walmart drone delivery clears hurdle as FAA approves flights without observers in Dallas Tx. 08/01/2024

Delivery by drone just cleared another hurdle that could soon make the service more widely available.

Drones typically require a drone pilot to see the aircraft at all times, but in a first for U.S. aviation history, the Federal Aviation Administration has officially authorized commercial drone flights without visual observers in the Dallas area.

The authorizations are for Zipline International and Wing Aviation. Both have partnered with Walmart to offer drone delivery to 75% of Dallas-Fort Worth by the end of this year, Walmart said in January.

Both companies received authorization to deliver packages while utilizing Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM) technology, which is a system for uncontrolled operations that is separate from, but complementary to, the FAA’s air traffic management system.

“Typically, when operating drones, the drone pilot must be able to always see the aircraft,” the FAA said in a news release. “However, new advancements in air traffic technology and procedures are providing a key step toward making these Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flights routine.” Complete article

Minnesota AG wins settlement against Walmart and Reynolds over ‘recycling’ bags that weren’t recyclable 08/01/2024

Walmart stores in Minnesota will not be allowed to sell plastic trash bags labeled “recycling” that were not in fact recyclable, as part of a lawsuit settlement, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced Thursday.

In a news release, Ellison warned companies against “greenwashing” their products and said he’s pleased that Walmart and bag production company Reynolds Consumer Products have agreed to stop selling and marketing the bags in question for two and a half years as part of the settlement.

“Any other companies thinking about greenwashing their products to market them deceptively to Minnesotans should know by now that I will not hesitate to hold them accountable under the law,” Ellison said.

Ellison sued Walmart and Reynolds in June 2023 in Ramsey County, alleging that the companies defrauded and deceived consumers by selling Reynolds-made trash bags that showcased the word “recycling” on the boxes even though the bags themselves weren’t recyclable. The bags in question were Reynolds’ Hefty brand “recycling bags” and the Walmart Great Value brand “recycling drawstring bags,” also made by Reynolds. Complete article

Walmart employees were caught off-guard by the company’s mandate to relocate 08/02/2024

Walmart plans to begin laying off employees that have not relocated on Aug. 9.

Walmart’s Zoom call in May was anything but routine for the roughly 300 employees who learned they would need to relocate or lose their jobs.

Bloomberg, citing unnamed sources with knowledge of the situation that were on the call but not allowed to speak during it, said they were told during the meeting that Walmart would start requiring thousands of workers from its smaller offices and remote locations to move to one of its main office hubs to boost in-person presence.

Concerns varied between employees, according to the report. Some were fine with the mandate, while others shared concerns about job security for their partners, childcare, and keeping remote work options, the publication added. Meanwhile, there was also uneasiness about workloads and whether they would grow if workers decided to quit in lieu of moving.

Others were unsettled by the limited resources available to LGBTQ individuals in states such as Arkansas, where Walmart is headquartered. Walmart plans to open its swanky new HQ office next year. The 350-acre campus will be filled with various amenities like a fitness facility, a Little Squiggles childcare facility, and even a hotel. Complete article

Suspect wrecks Fla. Walmart merch because he thought he was going to jail anyway: BBPD 08/02/2024

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A Boynton Beach man accused of trashing thousands of dollars-worth of merchandise at a Walmart store reportedly explained to his arresting officer that he figured he was going to jail anyway, so he wanted to make sure it was worth it.

According to the Boynton Beach Police Department, Thomas Maxwell was caught in the toy section amid some scattered but undamaged items. While that merchandise was still okay, he had already poured two gallons of bleach on nearly $1,000 worth of floormats, hundreds of dollars of footballs, and Ozark chairs, according to the probable cause affidavit against him.

Throw in five pairs of sunglasses that were broken, and he is accused of causing more than $2,000 in damage.

Maxwell’s alleged destructive spree began when he wanted to return a phone to the Walmart on South Federal Highway, in Boynton Beach, an employee explained to the officer. According to the affidavit, when a worker explained she could not take back the item, Maxwell shoved two computer monitors off the counter and that’s when he went and grabbed the bleach. Police: Couple ‘showed off’ stolen jewelry from Arkansas Walmart on Facebook 08/02/2024

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Police have a few words of advice: If you walk out of Walmart without paying, don’t post photos of your haul.

Investigators said 28-year-old Tykeria Rucker and 41-year-old Terry Ross, both of Jonesboro, did just that.

According to the affidavit, the couple entered the store at 1911 West Parker Rd. on July 17 and gathered several items, including jewelry.

“They attempted to purchase the items at the electronics counter with a check using Tykeria’s ID,” the court documents said. “While Terry was talking to the employee at the counter, Tykeria concealed the jewelry items in her purse.”

After many failed attempts running the check, police said Ross and Rucker then walked out of the store without paying for the concealed jewelry, which was valued at $1,592.

The affidavit noted that several Walmart employees are familiar with the couple.

“One of the employees had Terry as a friend on Facebook and was able to see his Facebook Story of Terry Tykeria showing off the jewelry that was stolen,” Detective Madison Dobbs stated in the affidavit. “Both suspects were wearing the same clothes as they were in Walmart when the jewelry was stolen.” Complete article

Customers loved the new way to get everything they needed without leaving their cars.

It has become so common that most people forget it is a relatively new service with kinks that must be worked out.

Walmart shoppers have hit several snags with curbside pickup, including long waits once they arrive.

WATCH: Elderly Man Goes Buck Wild in Texas Walmart Brawl 08/04/2024

There's never a dull moment in Wal-Mart, boys and girls.

I've seen some of the craziest crud go down while browsing for coffee creamer. Wal-Mart is the great equalizer. No matter who you are, rich or poor, young or old, when you're shopping in Wal-Mart, you're just the same as the next guy. It's part of the experience. It's the only place I truly don't mind being seen in my Cookie Monster jammies.

We hate it. We love it. We desperately need it. It's cheap and convenient like truck stop hookers and Ramen noodles.

Oh, and the fights.

A wild fight between a young man and an elderly man broke out in the self-checkout lane of a Wal-Mart store in Plano, Texas yesterday.

It's unclear what started the scuffle. What's very clear, is that despite age, the elderly fellow still has a lot of fight in him. He even got creative in the heat of the moment and charged his opponent with a shopping cart. Complete article

Police: Hit-and-run suspect used baby as shield with guns drawn on her at Ga. Walmart 08/02/2024 (Misleading headline?)

SYLVESTER, Ga. (WALB) - Sylvester police are looking for a woman suspected of hitting an officer with her car as she fled from police after being caught shoplifting.

According to Sylvester Police Chief Ronald Jackson, Shanita Bryant and two other women were reported shoplifting at the Walmart Supercenter in Sylvester, Ga. on Wednesday, July 31.

Police say when officers approached, Bryant took a 5-month-old baby from the shopping cart and ran.

Chief Jackson says she proceeded to put the baby unrestrained into the back seat of the vehicle. Bryant fled the scene in a silver 2009 Mitsubishi Galant.

In the process, she left the other children behind in the Walmart parking lot and attempted to run over 3 officers injuring one, according to Chief Jackson. Complete article Intentionally or not, this headline is misleading; the suspect puts a baby in the back of a car, but activities in the article don't indicate she intentionally used child as a shield. This is part of a common establishment tactic, first they rig the economy against the poor, then when a small percentage of the poor resort to desperate measures they demonize them. Her activities may be highly inappropriate but those rigging the economy are worse.

5 years in prison for man who stole merchandise through returns scheme at Crystal Lake Ill. Walmart 08/02/2024

A man has been sentenced to five years in prison after prosecutors say he stole over $300 worth of merchandise from Walmart in Crystal Lake through a return scheme.

Samuel Spann, 40, of Rockford, was charged in January with two counts of retail theft, Class 3 and 4 felonies.

He pleaded guilty last month to one count of retail theft, a Class 3 felony, in exchange for his other charge and other retail theft cases being dismissed.

DROP OFF ‘Just dumped it,’ Walmart shopper fumes after delivery ‘left in pile on floor’ – vows it’s the ‘last time’ 08/04/2024

WALMART'S delivery service has left a shopper reeling after their groceries were allegedly dumped on the sidewalk.

The big-box retailer has come under fire recently for its checkout changes, but the most recent complaint on X is about another form of checkout.

Walmart supplier under investigation after state officials suggest possible Chinese ties 08/07/2024

A Fort Smith property now under a state investigation for possible ties to the Chinese government is owned by Olivet International Inc., a major Walmart supplier that has an office near the retailer’s Bentonville headquarters.

Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin announced last month that he would investigate a real estate purchase in Fort Smith after Gov. Sarah Sanders and Agriculture Secretary Wes Ward flagged it for potential connections to China.

There is “reasonable suspicion of ownership ties with China and the Chinese Communist Party as well as national security concerns associated with the site’s proximity to Ebbing Air National Guard Base,” Sanders and Ward said in their letter requesting an investigation. Complete article

Walmart seizes 37% of online food sales 08/08/2024

Walmart Inc. captured 37% of U.S. online grocery sales in the second quarter this year while grocers lost their share of the market to mass retailers, according to a report released Tuesday.

Households continued to shift away from supermarkets toward Walmart in search of lower prices, the U.S. eGrocery Market Share Report -- 2Q24 said.

The report used data from the monthly Brick Meets Click/Mercatus Grocery Shopping Survey.

"Walmart's year-over-year gains for Q2 2024 build on a multi-year uptrend for the retailer, fueled by economic conditions and key strategic moves that have delivered results," the report said.

In contrast, supermarkets lost online grocery sales in the second quarter compared to a year ago, finishing the quarter with 27.3% of that market.

Walmart's online sales share began to overtake supermarkets in early 2022 as inflation grew faster than wages, the report said. Complete article

‘I work for Walmart and I agree I see this so often’: Walmart shopper says people are ‘abandoning’ their items at self-checkout 08/09/2024

‘We can’t even get a full cart anymore because it would be close to $500.’

The cost of groceries has been going up in recent years. A survey published in June of this year found that 80% of respondents claimed to have seen notable increases in food prices since the pandemic. The same report found that grocery prices have increased by 25% since early 2020.

These high prices have taken their toll on shoppers. For example, one Safeway customer sparked a discussion after claiming that his grocery bill of $123 was barely enough to cover two nights of food. A service worker also claimed to have felt awkward charging customers given the high prices.

Now, a TikTok user has sparked a discussion after documenting something they observed at Walmart which they say has a dark backstory. Complete article

Some Walmart and Walgreens stores are locking up so much stuff that delivery workers are avoiding them 08/13/2024

Locked-up merchandise at retailers is turning off delivery workers for services like Instacart.

Shopping and delivering orders on-time is a struggle with so much locked up, workers said.

Retailers from Walmart to Walgreens have items under lock-and-key in an attempt to prevent theft.

Locked-up bottles of dish detergent and water at retailers like CVS and Walmart isn't just a headache for customers doing their own shopping: It's also hampering deliveries through services like Instacart.

Unlike regular shoppers, delivery workers who pick up orders at stores usually have to shop and deliver their orders on a deadline. That means they often say no to taking orders at stores that are infamous for having a lot of items locked up.

An Ohio-based shopper who delivered for Walmart's Spark delivery service until earlier this year recalled waiting 10 minutes once for an employee to unlock a case containing baby formula. He and other workers that Business Insider interviewed declined to be identified in this story, citing potential retaliation from the delivery services. Walmart is ending DroneUp deliveries in three states 08/16/2024

DroneUp is shutting down Walmart drone deliveries in Arizona, Utah, and Florida.

Walmart is ending drone deliveries made with partner DroneUp in Phoenix, Arizona, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Tampa, Florida, because the services in those cities weren’t sustainable, according to Axios. This is after Walmart and DroneUp announced in 2022 that they would be bringing drone delivery to those states as part of a broader expansion.

Right now, it costs about $30 to use a drone to deliver a package, but DroneUp wants to bring the cost down so that it’s less than $7, DroneUp CEO Tom Walker told Axios.

DroneUp will be closing 18 Walmart delivery hubs in the cities, and 17 percent of DroneUp’s workforce (70 staffers) will lose their jobs, Axios reports. Following the cuts, there will only be 15 Walmart locations — “11 in Dallas, 3 near Walmart’s Bentonville, Ark., headquarters and one in Virginia Beach,” according to Axios — where you can take advantage of DroneUp’s delivery program. ‘I’ll stop shopping at Walmart’: Shopper claims Walmart is implementing surge pricing. Here’s what you need to know 08/14/2024

For many years, Walmart was known for its low prices. Now, however, some aren’t too sure that the chain is offering the deals it once did.

For example, one shopper compared a 2022 grocery bill from Walmart to a bill from this year. While a month of groceries would have cost the shopper around $126 in 2022, they said that buying the same amount of groceries from the store this year would cost them over $400.

Then, another shopper noted how much ground beef had increased in price since her time working at the store, claiming that the price had doubled in just a few years.

Now, another TikTok user has complicated this idea by alleging that Walmart is going to implement surge pricing in its stores. Complete article

Walmart's sneaky tactic to prevent theft 08/19/2024

If you’ve ever entered a Walmart (WMT) store and got a hunch that someone was following you, it may have not just been paranoia.

A former Walmart employee is going viral on TikTok after he revealed the creepy way workers at the company’s stores are instructed to follow shoppers to prevent theft.

In a TikTok video, which was posted on Aug. 13 and has so far amassed over 600,000 views, TikTok user Bigbagspenny616, said that when he was an employee at the company, he was a “floor walker,” which is an employee who is responsible for looking out for retail theft. He claims that floor walkers start stalking customers in the parking lot and will continue to follow them as they shop in the store.

“The very first thing you want to look out for is that we're always stationed in our cars, and when you pull in, that's when we get to go ahead to follow you into the store,” he said in the video.

“This gives the illusion that we arrived at the store the same time as you did.”

The former employee also claimed that each floor walker has “one prime target at a time,” and that 50 to 200 customers at a store can be targeted by floor walkers per day. Complete article

‘I just wanted my cheese’: Shopper places Walmart delivery order. She can’t believe the message they sent her 08/23/2024

Grocery delivery is more popular than ever. But despite this popularity, many shoppers have reported issues actually getting the items that they’ve ordered through these grocery delivery services.

For example, one user shared her surprise when, after ordering lemons as part of a grocery order, she received decorative plastic ones. Another claimed that she received her order in an anti-theft box, requiring her to break it open with a hammer. A further user alleged they received a delivery that had already been torn open.

Concerning the former, a frequent complaint amongst delivery shoppers is drivers’ perceived inability to make adequate swaps for missing items. In some cases, the substitutions are bizarre. In other cases, drivers will claim that they need to make a substitution despite the item being present in the store.

That may have been why when TikTok user Kayla-Lee (@klgroez) was told that there was no cheese available at her Walmart, she asked if there were any substitutions available. What happened next took her by complete surprise.

A Walmart with no cheese.

In a video with over 418,000 views, Kayla-Lee shares a screen recording she made of an interaction between her and a Walmart delivery worker.

“They have no cheese,” the Walmart worker says.

“Do they have any other like type of cheese?” Kayla-Lee incredulously responds.

At this point, the Walmart worker sends a photo of the cheese and meat shelf. It is completely bare. Complete article

Investigation into the woman's claims indicated she had not been stunned by the handheld weapon, police said Thursday morning when the Journal & Courier called for an update. However, the woman clearly appeared to have been involved in a tussle, according to police.

After the fight, the woman ran toward the Quality Inn and flagged down a motorist on Cumberland Avenue, who called police. The woman was not injured, but she showed signs that she physically fought with someone, police said.

Attention, Walmart shoppers: An inspection says a Broward store had mold on meat 08/21/2024

Chicken vulnerable to bad bacteria buildup and meat already marred by mold caused a Walmart Neighborhood Market to get the lowest state inspection result possible on Tuesday.

“Re-Inspection Required” read the report on the Dania Beach Walmart supermarket at 401 E. Sheridan St. from Florida Department of Agriculture inspectors Francis Odio and Ashley Montanez Bradshaw. Though only a four-page inspection with eight violations, the inspectors saw enough to require they return to the store by Sept. 3.

In the retail area’s meat reach-in cooler, a package of marinated ribs “was found with white, mold-like substances.” That’s a Stop Sale on that package of ribs.

The open air cooler near the deli contained rotisserie chicken that the cooler should have been keeping at or under — usually, well under — 41 degrees for safe cool keeping, but measured 43 to 45 degrees. Stop Sales came down on multiple packs of chicken. Complete article

BUSTED: Most Commonly Stolen Items From Texas Wal-Mart Stores 08/26/2024

And a lot of people getting busted for it. Here in Texas, even misdemeanor theft can result in jail time and hefty fines.

Walmart is the largest retailer in the U.S. and has 517 locations throughout Texas. Walmart constantly has to deal with "shrink" which is retail lingo for theft, from both consumers and "inside jobs." .....

Cell Phone Accessories
Cell phone accessories like chargers and cases get stolen a lot- because they are small, can be of moderate to high-value and are resealable.

Clothes
Clothes get stolen frequently because people need to try them on. With an understaffed dressing room, it's all too easy for thieves to wear them under their other clothes or stuff them into a bag.

Beer and wine from Wal-Mart aren't particularly pricey, but some underaged kids (or broke alcoholics) will steal a cold one or two. Complete article

“Code Adam” Causes Panic at Walmart… Here’s What Happened! 08/26/2024

Yesterday I was at Walmart with my son. We were looking at Bluey toys when suddenly over the intercom we hear the words "CODE ADAM!" After 'Code Adam', the words "Male, five foot, brown hair, brown eyes, wearing a black shirt and black pants." I wasn't exactly sure what that meant. My mind started to spiral. Is it a missing child? Is it a shoplifter? Is it a deranged lunatic with a gun? What does "Code Adam" mean, and why didn't they reassure us that everything was okay?

WALMART CODES:

CODE BROWN:
If you hear "Code Brown" over the intercom, you want to leave the store as quickly as possible, as that means there is an ACTIVE SHOOTER situation happening.

CODE GREEN:
Code Green is also a scary situation, as it means there is an active HOSTAGE SITUATION taking place.

CODE BLUE:
Another code that if you hear, you'll want to leave as soon as possible is a Code Blue. A Code Blue is a POSSIBLE BOMB inside or around the building. Leave immediately. (Almost always false alarms) ......

CODE ADAM:
Finally, the code I heard with my son... Code Adam! This code is scary for parents, as a Code Adam means there is a missing child somewhere in the store. That keeps employees on watch for that child, especially around the exits making sure that the child doesn't leave on their own, or with someone that shouldn't be taking the child. Complete article

Walmart worker sparks debate with claim about company's handling of bottled water: 'This needs to be made public' 08/27/2024

If you're a savvy shopper, you likely know that buying bottled water is unhealthy and bad for the planet. However, the one thing worse than drinking bottled water is simply throwing it away. Unfortunately, a Walmart worker recently shed light on how the chain is doing exactly that.

What's happening?

A Reddit user who claims to work for Walmart recently posted an image from the back room of a pile of water bottles, totaling gallons of water, waiting to be discarded.

"Corporate says we're not allowed to drink this so we have to throw it away," the Redditor complained. They also claimed Walmart was "forcing us to dump gallons of perfectly good water every day."

Why is this water waste important?

As the original poster pointed out, "There are plenty of places, in our own country alone, that are having a serious water crisis and here Walmart is just throwing this s*** in the trash." They added, "This needs to be made public." Complete article

NEW YORK (AP) — The Consumer Product and Safety Commission is warning people to immediately dispose of a magnetic game because it poses serious ingestion risks for children.

The CPSC posted a warning Thursday that “Magnetic Chess Games” sold by China-based seller JOMO contain magnets that do not comply with U.S. federal safety regulations. As a result, the “loose, hazardous magnets pose a risk of serious injury or death,” according to the warning.

The CPSC said it issued a violation notice to JOMO, but that the company has not agreed to recall its Magnetic Chess Games or provide a remedy. The commission urged people to stop using the game and throw it away immediately.

The games were sold online at walmart.com in a blue box with the word “Magnetic” on the front and back, according to the CPSC. They include about 20 loose black magnets but not chess-shaped pieces, despite its marketing. ......

A Walmart spokesperson said customers’ health and safety are the company’s top priority and that it began working to remove the games soon after the CPSC warning was issued Thursday. Complete article

‘Around Halloween!??’: Woman warns against buying candy from Walmart, Target 08/30/2024

If you’re thinking of picking up some candy on your next run to the store, it’s best to double check that label. A serious recall has been issued for a number of brands sold across the U.S.

TikToker Ajayllah (@ajayllah) adamantly warned her followers to watch out for sweet treats sold at Walmart and Target last week.

“I don’t give a f*ck if your kids are being good in the store. Do not let them grab any candy from that checkout aisle line,” she says in a video that’s been viewed over 1.5 million times. “Candy is on recall.”

Around two dozen products made by Palmer Candy Company have been effected by the recall. This spans different brands sold in Walmart, Target, Dollar General, and Hyvee, as well as sold directly to distributors in various states.

A recall was originally issued for these products back in May (with an update including additional products less than two weeks later), but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration applied a Class 1 risk level in early August. This is the highest level of recall, applied when “there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.” Complete article
