Who ever makes shirts for Walmart doesn't seem to have any idea What the states they're putting on them look like and even though the people that stock the shelves probably do; they put ones with a picture of Massachusetts claiming they were Maryland.
We used to talk about enormous amounts of things like this happen in the Soviet Union because all the decisions were made in a far away government office by people who didn't know what was going on. Critical thinking at the most basic level has been eliminated form the oligarchy system.
There were at least eight shooting incidents at Walmart this month including three officer involved shootings. The police killed at least two people and wounded another and two of the police were wounded by one of the people they killed. A loss prevention officer was killed by a shoplifter when he attempted to stop him in one of these incidents.
There were also a large number of assaults at knife point this month; most of them were just threats during shoplifting incidents but at least two resulted in a stabbing, and another was a threat to a customer who was forced to buy a homeless man a meal at knife-point. At least five additional deaths happened at Walmart including a shoplifter that dies in an emergency room, two accident killing a worker and an elderly woman, and the other two were suspicious for other reasons. Another elderly women was just knocked over while a shoplifter was trying to get away; and a three year old was hurt much worse but survived after being run over.
A lawsuit was filed over a previous incident where a customer who bought a tomato was beaten and accused of stealing it, by an off-duty police officer working as a loss-prevention officer. Another police officer was accused of stealing make-up from Walmart.
Walmart has been involved in their share of scandals including labor disputes again. The Supreme Court has ruled against them in a class-action suit; a man they fired for disputed reasons is getting enormous support from the community because some people think it was for friendly hugging of customers when serving them. And they had another recall of salads.
Once again Walmart ranks last among favorite grocery stores. This clearly isn't supposed to happen in the "free market economy" where the best stores are supposed to prosper because they serve their customers well and attract more. However thanks to political subsidies and other advantages from powerful corporations including the consolidated media we only have "free market economy" in name only since connection enable incompetent corporations to get large market share and take their customers for granted, which is why they have so many problems with complaints and crime.
Even though Walmart and their political and media allies do little or nothing to report on and prevent the root causes of crime, when people are caught at petty theft they face increasingly stiff penalties including one person getting 12 years for petty theft. There's no accountability for outsourcing jobs eliminating opportunities for people and depriving them of a fair wage but when they speak out of get caught at petty crimes they get the book thrown at them. Even if these steep offenses are for repeat offenders it could be reduced dramatically by creating a functioning economic system.
They had at least two car chases by police including one where they were attacked first and another where it was over a few stolen stakes but it resulted an over a hundred mile chase through two counties and throwing the stolen stakes at the cruiser.
Another crash took place when a women intentionally drove into Walmart with her car because 'God told her to do it.' She went on to say that the Rapture was coming.
It was on the day that Hillary Clinton won four out of five eastern states including Pennsylvania and Maryland enabling the media to claim, once again, that she has the nomination locked up even though many of her victories involved voter suppression and she still doesn't have the delegates she need.
Strange things happen at Wal-Mart!
In 2006 Wake Up Wal-Mart did a study, "Is Wal-Mart Safe?" based on incidents in 2004, (PDF) about crime at Wal-Mart which showed that it increased when Wal-Marts opened up and that crime was higher at Wal-Mart than at other retailers. Since then Wal-Mart Shootings began compiling a list of gun related incidents at Wal-Mart and demonstrated that they have a large number of them, including on average more than one shooting per week somewhere in the country. In January of 2014 another study, "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" provided additional statistical research indicating that Wal-Mart might be contributing to higher crime rates or at least a slowing of the decline in crime. The study found that. “on average, communities with Walmarts had 17 more property crimes and two more violent crimes per 10,000 people than those communities without Walmarts.” I reviewed this more in Wal-Mart’s crime problem, Rolling Back Safety more than prices? where I explained that although this study is helpful they could have done better with additional data that is available and I reviewed some of that. I also added my own review about why I think that Wal-Mart policies have been contributing to higher crime in a previous blog, Wal-Mart high crime rate continues un-investigaterd and have provided additional information under the author tag Walmart Crime Watch.
Stacy Mitchell has also compiled a list of other studies about Wal-Mart and how they impact society, Key Studies on Big-Box Retail & Independent Business. To the best of my knowledge Wal-Mart has done as little as they seem to get away with, often relying on rhetoric that isn't backed up with action, when it comes to addressing any of their critics concerns, including crime. The following are a list of incidents that occurred in April 2016. According to the "Is Wal-Mart Safe?" the average store in their sampling had 250 incidents per year, indicating that these are only a fraction of the crime reports at Wal-Mart, and presumably, the ones most likely to make the news on the internet nationwide. This isn't statistically representative, as the 2006 or the "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" study or some of the studies cited by Stacy Mitchell; but it does provide some additional information that may help recognize how many problems there are at Wal-Mart.

Supreme Court deals Walmart a blow in class-action case 04/04/2016
The Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal by Walmart in a case involving a $187 million class-action judgment against the retailer over its treatment of workers in Pennsylvania.
Walmart had argued that the formula used to determine the penalty was unfair.
The justices denied the petition Monday, meaning the lower court's ruling will stand and Walmart will have to pay the penalty. ....
The case involved 2011 and 2012 decisions by Pennsylvania state courts, including the state supreme court, that upheld the judgment in a lawsuit involving 187,000 Walmart employees who worked at the world's largest retailer between 1998-2006 and said they were denied paid rest breaks and ordered to work "off the clock." Wal-Mart Apologizes for Selling University of Maryland Shirts With Massachusetts Design 04/04/2016
Wal-Mart said Monday it's embarrassed to "stick our head out of our shell" after the mega-store sold University of Maryland Terrapins T-shirts that showed the state of Massachusetts instead of the state of Maryland.
A customer spotted the error in a Wal-Mart store last week and posted a photo to Wal-Mart’s Twitter page. A Wal-Mart employee at the time defended the shirts by saying Maryland and Massachusetts have similar dips on the right side.

Walmart says hugging is not reason cashier was fired in West Plains Missouri 04/05/2016
WEST PLAINS, Mo. - Many people have posted comments on social media sites and threatened a Walmart boycott after a longtime Walmart store employee, Frank Swanson, was recently fired.
The story that Swanson's supporters are repeating is that Swanson gave hugs to customers and someone complained about an unwanted hug, prompting the firing. In an interview on Tuesday afternoon, Swanson says he was told he was fired for approving a lower price for an item that a shopper said a competitor was offering, even though the customer didn't have the other store's ad to show him.

Huge union no longer backing anti-Walmart group 04/06/2016
After years of financially backing the anti-Walmart group OURWalmart, the United Food and Commercial Workers has officially pulled the plug on the organization. In a recent financial filing with the Labor Department, the union said it was no longer subsidizing the group.
"For part of 2015, the UFCW had a subsidiary organization maintained in Washington DC named the Organization United For Respect at Walmart (OURWalmart) whose purpose as stated in the bylaws is the betterment of the conditions of the current and former associates at Walmart Stores,Inc., within the meaning of Section 501(c)(5) of the Internal Revenue Code, and to make Walmart a better corporate citizen. That subsidiary relationship ended in May 2015," according to the union's fiscal year 2015 report. The document, known as an LM-2, was dated March 16.
It is not entirely clear what has become of the UFCW-run organization, which was the main vehicle for most of the various protests, marches and other events over the last several years that opposed the retailer's policies. The declaration would appear to suggest it was dissolved, but a UFCW spokesman did not respond to a request for comment. Complete article

Wal-Mart shrinks board membership to 12 from 15 04/20/2016
NEW YORK (AP) — Wal-Mart is shrinking the number of board members to 12 from 15 as it looks to bolster the board for the future.
As part of the changes, four directors, including its former CEO Mike Duke and Jim Walton, the son of the retailer's late founder Sam Walton, will not stand for re-election at the company's annual shareholders' meeting, set for June 3. "With these retirements, we view this as a time to make our board more nimble, while maintaining its independence and further aligning on Wal-Mart's strategic priorities," said Greg Penner, chairman of the board, in a statement. .....
The other retiring board members are Aida Alvarez, who joined the board in 2006 and was a member of the audit committee. She was administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration and a member of President Bill Clinton's cabinet from 1997 to 2001. Also retiring from the board is Roger Corbett, who joined the board in 2006. He is the retired CEO and group managing director of Woolworths Ltd., based in Australia. Complete article

Walmart Must Take Responsibility for Its Canned Tuna 04/25/2016
When unsuspecting Walmart customers reach for a can of Great Value or Chicken of the Sea tuna, they don’t know that a trail of destruction has brought that can from sea to shelf.
Walmart. The largest retailer in the world. Known for its low prices, the true cost of its products often go unnoticed and harm people and the planet. Its canned tuna products are a perfect case in point. When unsuspecting Walmart customers reach for a can of Great Value or Chicken of the Sea tuna, they don’t know that a trail of destruction has brought that can from sea to shelf. These products are supplied by the world’s biggest canned tuna company, and the target of Greenpeace’s global campaign – Thai Union Group.
Thai Union continues to allow wasteful and destructive fishing practices that attract, capture, and kill other marine life including turtles and sharks – while driving some species of tuna towards extinction. Thai Union has been connected to shocking labor and human rights abuses in some of its supply chains, with too many workers exploited, abused, and even forced to work on ships for months or years at a time.
Given Walmart’s connection to Thai Union, Walmart’s current tuna sourcing policies and practices are inadequate at ensuring its customers are getting sustainable products. Of further concern, like Thai Union, Walmart has been named in scandal after scandal, and does not deny that its seafood may be connected to forced labor. Complete article
