Walmart Crime Report June 2024

Walmart had another eleven shootings in June 2024 with four of them causing one death each, one of them killed by a police officer after the suspect allegedly running over the officer, and at least three more injuries. There was also a mass shooting less than a mile from a Walmart store killing three more and wounding another ten, but this had nothing to do with Walmart's business. There was also an active shooting scare, although no shots were fired at another store, but there was an armed man threatening to shoot people.

One of the fatal shootings was a Walmart delivery person killed off the premises, while delivering a package; another shooting was also off the premises to shoot down a drone used to promote automated deliveries in Florida, but the rest were on the premises. The shooting of a drone bothering neighbors was inevitable, and Walmart had plenty of neighbors complaining about this in Arizona or Texas where they have more deliveries in place, yet they ignore these complaints. Walmart executives has never cared about anything but profits like most if not all other major corporations, due to the incentive plan they create for themselves. They routinely ignore problems that they're not accountable for, and this will inevitably lead to more shootings of drones and blow back from other policies where they anger both customers and workers; actually this has already been happening for years if not decades, including disgruntled customers calling in bomb threats, going on shooting sprees, setting fires, driving vehicles through the store and many more of their high crime problems.

In addition to the four people killed in shootings there was one person killed in a crash, a toddler that died at their store as a result of "blunt force trauma" which they filed homicide charges for and another body found on the premises, for a total of seven people dead last month. There was also a long time employee that died of cancer, but this was unrelated to work, and a court case that ended in a not guilty finding for a security guard killed by an alleged shoplifter trying to get away, but they found it could be self defense. This happened in April 2020, but wasn't initially reported as a death since he was in a coma for four months before dying and his death was hardly reported in the media, which is a reminder these death estimates are minimums, and often incomplete.

In addition to the eleven shootings and active shooter scare there were at least eight more gun related crimes, including more threats to go on shooting sprees, including one where a woman hit a cop with her car, several armed robberies, and a couple times where police disarmed suspects of guns for other suspected crimes. There was also a young woman who was accused of throwing a baby in the trash during a fight, and is being brought up on charges; this may not be the fault of Walmart, but there is plenty of research showing that social programs to teach or help at risk young parents are far more effective than punishment only after crimes as a deterrent, and these programs often save much more money and prevent many more incidents like this than punishment.

There's also a massive problem with baby formula being so expensive that it creates a black market and a massive theft problem. There have been shoplifting rings around the country to sell to low income parents that can't afford to pay full price, which is a problem that could be solved by not overcharging or finding a more reasonable way to ensure all parents can afford it. On top of that there may be tainted formula sold when it's controlled by criminal rings, endangering babies of low income people buying this on the black market.

Walmart has been caught at several more overcharges of some sort, including false labeling charging customers for much more than the weight of meat, and other cases of the computers overcharging customers due to computer glitches, even though similar things have happened many times before, and they often profit from it, it's never considered criminal and, at most, they just refund the money when they get caught, although petty thefts by the poor of much less money is routinely prosecuted for much lower amounts.

As usual they found more skimmers on their registers, and are still not making a high profile effort to stop them or even warn their customers. This leaves their customers accounts at risk, without costing Walmart any profits, in fact if their data is used to buy stuff at Walmart it could increase profits at the expense of customers who are stuck with the tab.

They also felt the need to create a controlled detonation of a pipe bomb, which is rare, since most bomb threats are fakes; but often when they find a possible explosive devise they don't know if it's real so they provide a small explosive at a safe location and set it off to see if there's any other explosive devices, and it's not always clear if there is. It's been years since any real bombs were set off at Walmart, while there are dozens if not hundreds of false bomb threats every year. There was also another alleged kidnapping and rape on their property, a murder suspect arrested on the premises, and another store that was closed because of their high crime problems, as they continue ignoring how there own policies might be a partial contributing factor to this.

Once again Walmart has enabled a thief to steal private property when he stole bolt cutters used to cut a lock and steal an E-bike, which was eventually retrieved; in the past armed robbers have stolen many weapons used to threaten employees or other people when stealing including axes, bats, knives and other weapons, and in an extreme case an emotionally unstable person that was recently refused psychiatric care stole a knife and killed an employee, partly based on racial hatred. There was also a customer given a ten dollar bill as change from Walmart that was prop money which she didn't notice until she tried to use it elsewhere.

There are now dozens if not hundreds of high profile complaints about Walmart's anti'theft policies and self-checkout, even though both problems, and more, are clearly caused by their corner cutting by refusing to hire enough cashiers and their store design that makes it easy to walk out with a large number of merchandise. Perhaps one of the most extreme cases is Georgia laws that allow stores to ban people for refusing to show their receipt or detain people, even if they have little or no probable cause to suspect shoplifting. These laws seem to be rigged overwhelmingly in favor of businesses, and, with the market divided up among oligarchs the loss of business may not be an incentive to respect customers rights, which means for now, Georgia customers may be guilty of shoplifting until proven innocent!

In addition to the deadly crash at one Walmart they also had at least a dozen more major crashes, including one hitting a police cruiser, several police chases, several auto thefts, including one resulting in a wild brawl, and at least half a dozen, if not a dozen or more major injuries resulting from these accidents or chases.

There was also at least one car fire, and six other fires in stores, with at least four of them a result of arson, and one of those was started with fireworks, which not surprisingly, were stolen from the store and set off on the spot. There were also at least three stabbings injuring people, at least one of them critically.

Walmart also had at least three more major recalls, including a baby sling carrier that might suffocate babies, mattresses with a fire risk, and ice cream that might be contaminated with listeria. NJ stores were fined for pricing practices, and a Georgia woman won a $1.2 million dollar verdict after an employee hit her with a shopping cart, although if Walmart appeals, as they typically do, she may have to settle for a fraction of that, assuming she gets anything. This standard only applies to the poor with no fame; when Tracy Morgan they were surprisingly quick to settle for a high, but undisclosed amount, presumably because they know it would get an enormous amount of media attention and Tracy Morgan could afford the best lawyers, showing justice is for sale.

Walmart also went through there annual routine of rejecting shareholders initiatives to protect animal welfare, prevent discrimination, provide fair pay, and more; this is far from democratic, since the rich hold almost all the votes, with close to if not more than half in control of the Walton family. This is why we need a strong government that represents the people instead of a government representing campaign donors. At best we might get an occasional politician who at least pretends to care, like Sen. Casey who spoke against "greedflation" but when they're not outnumbered so they lose they routinely cave when this happens.

Walmart had several items that may have been unsafe, in addition to those recalled, including a dozen eggs that allegedly had paint on them and the customer buying them wondered if Walmart was trying to "poison us." In another case there was a Keurig coffee maker that was delivered to a customer damaged so badly they say it "could have been deadly" but even if it wasn't deadly, it was seriously damaged, yet initially they refused to accept the return, at least until they drew more attention on Social Media, which may raise doubts about if anyone should buy online products from Walmart, since, if true, they might send you a seriously damaged product and refuse to refund your money until you draw enough attention to the situation. In yet another case someone rinsed a watermelon from Walmart and showed how rotten it was; and this doesn't count a mouse in the spinach.

There was also another photo from a Walmart worker showing how much food they waste every month, including milk past their expiration date, when it doesn't sell fast enough. Judging by past reports like this, it's not the same at every store, and some, whether it's Walmart or another store, are more inclined to donate food to food banks while it's still edible.

Another one of their stores was evacuated because of animal repellent that was accidentally opened after being returned and sickened several people.

The curse of another Yellow pole that keeps getting hit by cars has returned again. The one that seems to get the most attention is in Maine, but there's also one in Indiana that is famous for getting hit over and over again, yet they don't change the design or placement of either pole.

When you get caught shoplifting do you ever try to get away with it by calling 911 and reporting the deputies that are trying to arrest you? Apparently that happened at least once at Walmart, but for some reason it didn't work and the suspect was arrested anyway.

How often to adolescent bears visit your local supermarket? They need to shop too, there's no reason for Fish and Wildlife to escort them out!

Would venomous snakes be considered any worse? One customer thought so when she almost put her child in the seat a short distance from the snake in the shopping cart.

Ever see a mouse with red eyes staring back at you from the dead when washing your spinach? Or does that only happen when spinach is bought at Las Vegas Walmart's?

If you were a cake decorator and received instructions to write “twenty-four small in cursive in the middle” would you do this?:

Strange things happen at Walmart!

In 2006 Wake Up Walmart did a study, "Is Walmart Safe?" based on incidents in 2004, (PDF) about crime at Walmart which showed that it increased when Walmarts opened up and that crime was higher at Walmart than at other retailers. Since then Walmart Shootings began compiling a list of gun related incidents at Walmart and demonstrated that they have a large number of them, including on average more than one shooting per week somewhere in the country; now after counting them for several years that average is over two per week. In January of 2014 another study, "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" provided additional statistical research indicating that Walmart might be contributing to higher crime rates or at least a slowing of the decline in crime. The study found that. “on average, communities with Walmarts had 17 more property crimes and two more violent crimes per 10,000 people than those communities without Walmarts.” I reviewed this more in Walmart’s crime problem, Rolling Back Safety more than prices? where I explained that although this study is helpful they could have done better with additional data that is available and I reviewed some of that. I also added my own review about why I think that Walmart policies have been contributing to higher crime in a previous blog, Walmart high crime rate continues un-investigaterd and have provided additional information under the author tag Walmart Crime Watch.

Over the past ten to fifteen years Walmart has been increasing the use of self-checkout, and this has corresponded with a steady increase in shoplifting as well as false accusations, yet they refuse to even discuss returning to the use of cashiers. What most people seem to have forgotten was that when they first did this it was on a small scale as an experiment, presumably to see if it worked before expanding it, which would actually make sense, if they slowed it down or reversed it once they saw how many problems it caused. But that's not what they did. Instead the more problems they had the more they increased use of self-checkout, often claiming that instead of hiring more cashiers again, which worked previously, they resorted to more technology and hiring more security to catch people skip scanning or at other forms of theft. This has led to massive amounts of false accusations, in addition to the real thefts, and when the thefts are real, and they get caught, they often resort to violence, so it endangers both Walmart workers and customers.

Now they're acting as if the rise of shoplifting is happening for some inexplicable reason and even asking police to help them solve this problem, as if it wasn't a problem created by their own policies, and most of the media or politicians aren't pointing out the obvious. This is resulting in a massive increase in arrests, court expenses, and prison expenses, which Walmart isn't paying for, effectively meaning we are subsidizing Walmart's high crime problems with tax money. There's no official explanation for why they're behaving so foolishly; but, since this is a for profit corporation it's not hard to speculate about the most likely reason for it, that they're increasing profits for those making the decisions. But, a large portion of the money saved by not hiring cashiers is spent on technology or security to catch thieves; and, if they had to pay the increase in police, courts and prison costs that would reduce or eliminate their savings, and they would almost certainly reverse their policies, because they wouldn't be increasing profits with self-checkout.

This doesn't even include the risk to the health of both their customers and workers when the worst thieves turn violent, in some cases possibly even shooting and killing people. Every year since 2016 has seen more than a hundred shootings at Walmart, and more often than not, this is increasing, while they ignore the causes of their crime problems. These self-checkouts are also making it easier for thieves to put "skimmers" that collect credit or debit card information from customers that enable them to use their cards illegally, but, once again, the customers are stuck with the tab, not Walmart, so they're doing little or nothing to stop this, even though it's a direct result of their bad policies. And furthermore, courts have ruled that Walmart has a right to detain customers even when they have no reason to believe they're shoplifting, if they simply refuse to show receipts, as a matter of principle. At times some lawyers have claimed they need probable cause to ask to see receipts, which, if a customer goes directly from the register, sometimes even when there's a cashier, to the door they can't possibly have. So this means Walmart is under no obligation to assume their paying customers are innocent until proven guilty, which should raise major constitutional questions!

Stacy Mitchell has also compiled a list of other studies about Walmart and how they impact society, Key Studies on Big-Box Retail & Independent Business. To the best of my knowledge Walmart has done as little as they seem to get away with, often relying on rhetoric that isn't backed up with action, when it comes to addressing any of their critics concerns, including crime. One of the responses they’ve come up with is what they call "Restorative Justice" which gives first time shoplifters a chance to avoid being arrested or any criminal record if they take an on line course which costs $400 up front or $500 in payments, plus perhaps, reparations. This has been part of the privatization process and often denies suspects of the due process or access to a lawyer, perhaps even intimidating and extorting from some people that might not even be guilty. Walmart seems to be trying to find a way to turn crime into a profit making situation instead of looking for the most effective ways to reduce it. Making Change at Walmart is asking If you or someone you know has gone through @Walmart's "Restorative Justice" program for first-time suspected shoplifters, send us a DM. 03/30/2017 to ensure that it isn’t doing more harm than good. I did my own review of this program as well at Walmart’s “Restorative Justice” Endangers Public Without Reducing Crime. The following are a list of incidents that occurred in June 2024. According to the "Is Walmart Safe?" the average store in their sampling had 250 incidents per year indicating that these are only a fraction of the crime reports at Walmart, and presumably, the ones most likely to make the news on the internet nationwide. This isn't statistically representative, as the 2006 or the "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" study or some of the studies cited by Stacy Mitchell; but it does provide some additional information that may help recognize how many problems there are at Walmart.

Confirmed: Walmart Self Checkouts Overcharged Arizona Shoppers 06/05/2024

Self-checkout kiosks have been a hotly debated subject for a few years now. First, they were installed to contain rising prices, and businesses like Walmart and other retailers added the kiosks as a way to keep overhead down.

The reality of shifting the job of checkout clerk to the customer created myriad headaches for retailers and shoppers, as consumers are increasingly steered toward using the machines whether they want to or not.

Businesses began to realize they were losing money when customers made mistakes and forgot to ring up products. Other shoppers figured out ways to circumvent the machines, resulting in thousands of dollars in product loss and shrinkage. ....

DA charging for Colorado Walmart thefts 06/05/2024

Since the start of the year, the Gunnison Walmart has reported a significant uptick in theft, and the District Attorney’s Office is now preparing to charge up to 50 individuals with theft.

In the first four months of the year, Walmart reported more thefts than it did over all of 2023. The increase is likely a result of greater vigilance from the store’s new “loss and prevention” employee, tasked with limiting the amount of theft at the store. The stolen items are mostly household goods, or small trinkets to fill a pantry or living room: Milk Bones for dogs, DVDs, blankets, pillows, lipstick, Diet Cokes and more.

“When you add it up, it becomes quite a bit of money,” said Gunnison Police Department Captain Chris Wilson. “It’s not like they’re going in and trying to get a 48-inch TV.”

The loss and prevention employee started in the fall of 2023. Since then, Gunnison Police Department has received between 100-150 calls for theft at Walmart. Since January, around $5,000 in merchandise has been stolen from the store. The vast majority of the thefts are “skip scanning,” a method of stealing where the person either pretends to scan items, or scans a less expensive item while slipping an unscanned item into the bag. Unless a checkout attendant catches the false transaction, the person can leave the store thinking no one noticed.

Behind the scenes, the loss and prevention employee is reviewing video footage and recording each time they notice someone stealing merchandise. The footage captures what the person looks like, which can be cross-referenced with the credit or debit card information from that transaction. Complete article

Walmart opposes New York plan to add panic buttons to stores 06/08/2024

BENTONVILLE, Arkansas June 8 (Reuters) - Retail giant Walmart says it is against putting panic buttons in stores - a move that the New York legislature wants to require under a new law aimed at keeping retail workers safe.

On Friday, the New York State Senate passed legislation that would make most big retail chains, including Walmart (WMT.N), opens new tab, to put panic buttons in their New York stores where employees can easily access them or provide staff with wearable, or mobile-phone-activated, panic buttons that summon emergency services.

The law, which is a reaction to rising threats to store clerks from thefts and violence, was already passed by the state's Assembly and now goes to Governor Kathy Hochul for signature. Retail groups have criticized the law in part because installing the panic buttons would be costly.

Walmart's top corporate affairs officer told Reuters that the company opposes the panic button idea because it believes there are likely to be many false alarms. Complete article

The Curse of the Yellow Pole in the Indiana Walmart Parking Lot Returns 06/09/2024

Just when we thought it was safe to drive through the Walmart parking lot in Princeton, Indiana, it appears the dreaded yellow pole is attacking innocent cars again. Some speculate that the yellow poles in the Princeton Walmart parking lot have been cursed or maybe it's a new TikTok challenge.

Is the Color Yellow Cursed?

Ok, I am digging into what could really be happening in parking lots with multiple yellow pole crashes. So, I asked various internet searches about the color yellow being cursed. No, the color yellow is not cursed. Colors themselves are not inherently cursed or blessed.

The Attacks Begin Again

The last vehicle versus yellow pole incident that I could find was back in March. That streak has ended with another crash. The majority of the vehicles involved in the yellow pole crashes have been high-profile vehicles. Complete article

Retailers can't keep scammers away from their favorite payment form: gift cards 06/07/2024

Retailers are struggling to rein in the proliferation of scammers tricking Americans into buying thousands of dollars' worth of gift cards.

Why it matters: The Federal Trade Commission estimates that Americans lost at least $217 million to gift card scams last year.

That number is likely higher, given many victims are too embarrassed to report to law enforcement.

Driving the news: Cracking down on gift card scams was a hot topic this week at the National Retail Federation's (NRF) cybersecurity conference in Long Beach, California.

How it works: Some gift card scams start with texts from people pretending to be tech support, your boss, the government or a wrong number. Eventually, those conversations lead to someone asking the victim to buy gift cards on their behalf and send the barcode number to them via text.

Others involve criminals in physical locations, tampering with a gift card to access the barcode information and then stealing the funds without taking the actual card.

Each scam targets vulnerable populations: elderly, less-tech savvy people; those who are lonely and work from home; and even young kids, experts say. Complete article

CHECKED OUT ‘Never shop at that store chain again,’ warn Walmart shoppers as they’re forced to pay subscription to use self-checkout 06/09/2024

WALMART shoppers are warning each other to avoid the chain over a controversial new self-checkout rule.

The rule was first introduced in March and it has been hit with incredible backlash.

Walmart has given store managers the power to close certain self-checkout registers to all customers except those who have a Walmart+ membership.

As this membership costs $98 a year, the new rule has gone down badly with consumers.

"If I have to pay to buy a product at any store I will never shop at that store chain ever again," wrote one on X recently. Complete article

Sling Carriers Recalled Due to Infant Suffocation and Fall Hazards 06/06/2024

Violation of the Federal Safety Regulation for Sling Carriers; Sold on Walmart.com through Joybuy Marketplace Express.

Sling Carriers

Hazard:

The recalled sling carriers violate the safety requirements of the Safety Standard for Sling Carriers, including requirements for structural integrity and occupant retention, posing a fall hazard to babies. Additionally, the sling carriers pose a suffocation hazard because they fail to meet the federal safety standard’s requirements for restraint systems, as the waist restraint can be used without the crotch restraint. Further, there are no warnings or instructional literature providing information to caregivers about keeping the baby’s face clear to prevent suffocation or safe positioning, to prevent the baby from curling into a position with their chin resting on or near their chest. Sling carriers manufactured after January 30, 2018 are subject to the mandatory federal safety standard. Complete article

Credit card skimmers found at Cookeville Tenn. Walmart, 7-Eleven 06/11/2024

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Credit card skimmers were found this week at two Cookeville businesses, according to the Cookeville Police Department.

On June 10, police responded to Walmart at 768 S. Jefferson Ave. in reference to a credit card skimmer being found at one of the store’s self-checkout credit card machines. Police believe the skimmer was in place from June 9 at about 3 p.m. until June 10 when police were notified.

The next day, police said they responded to the 7-Eleven at 1040 S. Jefferson Ave. about another skimmer incident. Skimmers were found on one of the interior credit card check-out machines. The skimmer was in place from June 9 until June 11 when police were notified.

“Both local businesses have been extremely cooperative with law enforcement during these investigations and have provided ample information to aid in our investigation,” Cookeville Police Department (CPD) said in a statement. “We do not believe the suspects who placed these skimmers are local to the Cookeville area. Show your receipt at Walmart, or else. Georgia law sides with the stores on this one 06/11/2024

Stores and markets can ban customers who won’t show their receipts or who are really rude to them. It could result in fines or jail time.

Every consumer among us has had to show their receipt upon exiting a big box store like Walmart or Target, and it’s likely it elicited a grumble or two from said consumer.

But what happens if you don’t show that receipt? What can happen to you, really?

You can get banned for not showing your receipt

Yup. That worker standing by the door, waiting for you to prove your purchase has the power to get you banned from the store, or what they are likely to call “getting trespassed.”

The consumer protection law website Just Answer says, “Yes, a supermarket can request you to show a receipt as part of their loss prevention policies, especially when using self-checkout systems.”

It is completely up to the property owner or their representative, like a store manager, to establish their own policies and it can vary from store to store. However, there are some general guidelines customers should know:

A store does not have to provide you with formal documentation of the ban

Simply informing the customer they are banned is sufficient

They may ask to detain you temporarily if you refuse to show the receipt

You can be banned for any reason as long as it doesn’t reflect discrimination against a protected class

What happens if I ignore the ban and go anyway?

Businesses that ban consumers are invoking a “criminal trespass” law and in Georgia it is classified as a misdemeanor offense. The potential penalties are:

Up to 12 months in jail

A fine of up to $1,000

Or both a fine and jail time

Can they ban me for being rude to the employee?

Businesses are well within their rights to ban anybody for anything, as long as it’s not discriminatory. That means that yes, rudeness counts, but so do all of the following:

Disruptive, threatening or abusive behavior towards staff

Creating an unsafe environment

Rudeness, yelling, swear or causing a disturbance

Shoplifting or attempting to steal

Damaging store property

Repeated violations of store policies

Although the receipt check at the door may feel invasive, it might be the smart play to just comply. If it comes down to showing your receipt or getting banned from your favorite store, what are you going to do? Complete article

Woman shot by police in Milton Ga. Walmart parking lot dies, accused of running over officer with stolen car: GBI 06/14/2024

The woman allegedly shoplifted before she carjacked a stranger's car, hit a police officer and then was ultimately shot, the GBI said.

MILTON, Ga. — A woman shot by a Milton Police officer in the parking lot of a Walmart after allegedly hitting the officer with a stolen vehicle trying to get away has died of her injuries at the hospital on Friday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

The woman was identified by the GBI as 31-year-old Shantidra Harris of Atlanta. The police officer was released from North Fulton Hospital in Alpharetta, where the department said he was treated for minor injuries.

The incident all unfolded Friday afternoon around 12:15 p.m. in the parking lot at the Walmart store located at 5200 Windward Parkway, police said.

In a Friday afternoon press conference, Milton Police Lieutenant Andrew Noblett said officers responded to a Kohl's just down the street from the Walmart on Highway 9 for a reported shoplifting. The three suspects left the scene in a red Dodge Journey SUV with a temporary license plate, Noblett said.

When officers responded, they found the suspect's vehicle. The suspect hit another car, and then officers lost sight of the SUV for a moment but saw it again in the Walmart parking lot. When officers pulled up, only one person was inside the suspect's vehicle. Police said a woman was taken into custody in the parking lot.

A second suspect, identified as Harris, allegedly got out of the Dodge SUV and carjacked another driver's vehicle in the parking lot, a white Toyota Corolla. The GBI said that a Milton Police officer was in front of the vehicle when Harris "quickly accelerated" the stolen car and hit the officer head-on. The GBI said the officer fired his weapon after he was hit, hitting Harris with gunfire. Complete article

Woman Finds Venomous Snake in Her La. Walmart Shopping Cart 06/15/2024

Nerri Denagall Brown was visiting the Walmart in Pineville, Louisiana this week when she found an unexpected item in her shopping cart. Right where she normally stows her kids in the cart, there was a venomous snake. Brown infers in her Facebook post that she didn’t even see the snake at first; another customer pointed it out to her. Brown said she’s grateful she took her kids to daycare instead of to the store with her.

The snake appears to be a juvenile cottonmouth snake, based on its coloring and bright yellow tail tip, which typically fades to black with age. The northern cottonmouth or water moccasin is a venomous snake found throughout the southeastern United States, including Louisiana.

These snakes can be up to 6 feet long and their bites can be deadly, though fatalities are rare. Nevertheless, a venomous snake is definitely not what Brown wanted in her Walmart shopping cart, and it gave her quite a fright. Complete article

Woman's Custom Birthday Cake From Walmart Bakery Is Definitely Not What She Ordered 06/16/2024

"Do people in the Walmart bakery department not have common sense or what?”

It is safe to say that a woman will no longer order cakes from Walmart's bakery after receiving a head-scratching design on her birthday confection.

The woman’s experience highlights the importance of double — actually triple-checking — that the cake decorator knows exactly what message you want them to write on the cake.

The cake decorator hilariously misinterpreted the message the woman wanted on her cake.

Anam Rajani took to TikTok to warn others what could happen if they ordered their custom cakes from Walmart.

Rajani specified that she wanted a two-layer round chocolate cake with white buttercream icing decorated with white crystal edible pearls around the top and bottom border. ......

The words “twenty-four small in cursive in the middle” were written across the cake. “POV: YOU ORDER A CUSTOM CAKE FROM WALMART FOR UR BDAY,” Rajani wrote in the text overlay of the video. Complete article

‘I’m just scanning the cheaper one twice lol’: Shopper accuses Walmart of lying to customers after weighing 2 packs of pork chops 06/14/2024

‘People, make sure you really weigh this stuff before you buy it.’

Recently, an increasing number of internet users are calling out stores for allegedly lying about how much of an item people will receive for their dollar.

For example, one TikTok user said she bought a package of crumbled cheese from Kroger that claimed to have 4 ounces of product; in reality, it had only 2.5. Another called out Real Canadian Superstore for allegedly incorrectly listing the weight of multiple items, while a further user said that their Walmart Great Value croutons weighed around a third of the listed weight.

While many different stores have been put in the spotlight as of late, Walmart is a common name that gets thrown around in these conversations. After a TikTok user realized that their Walmart smoked bacon weighed 5 ounces less than what was stated on the package, TikTok user Chad (@chads113) decided to head to Walmart to see their pricing issues for himself. What he found shocked him.

Does Walmart list weights incorrectly?

In a video with over 843,000 views as of Saturday, Chad picks up two packs of pork products at Walmart. While they appear similar—so much so that Chad identifies them as the same product—they are actually two different products.

Still, they appear to be around the same weight, the main difference being the price per pound: One is listed at $4.34 per pound, while the other is listed at $3.57 per pound.

The issue, Chad says, is that the latter pack states that it weighs 4.33 pounds, resulting in a total price of $15.46. This is strange, as the latter pack appears visually similar to the pack that’s listed at less than a pound.

Upon weighing both packs, it turns out that they are incredibly similar in weight—meaning that the 4.33 pound listing, and the prospective $15.46 for that package, are incorrect.

“People, make sure you really weigh this stuff before you buy it,” Chad advises. He later adds, “Walmart is on some scam s***.” Complete article

‘The eyes were red’: Las Vegas Nevada woman reports finding mouse in Walmart spinach 06/19/2024

Rumiko Bosa-Edwards always washes her vegetables.

Her grandmother taught her this habit: “You wash everything,” she said. “She’s instilled that in me.”

When cooking dinner for her family on Friday, Bosa-Edwards, now a grandmother herself, said she realized how crucial washing your vegetables really is.

According to her account, as she rinsed the spinach she had just bought from her local Walmart, she discovered, to her horror, a dead mouse among the greens.

"The eyes were red," the Las Vegas resident recalled.

As Bosa-Edwards tells it, when she first glimpsed the rodent, she mistook the dark mass hidden in the spinach for a piece of dirt.

She had emptied the container of spinach, which she said was totally sealed when she bought it, into a strainer over her sink.

She pushed the "dirt" to the side with a spatula. When it fell off the strainer into her sink, she recalled exclaiming, "What the hell is that?" Complete article

NJ Fines Walmart Over In-Store Pricing Practices 06/19/2024

Walmart has agreed to pay a $1.64 million settlement to the state of New Jersey over allegations of unlawful unit pricing practices across its 64 stores. The settlement, which includes a $1.61 million civil penalty, is the largest ever obtained by the state's Division of Consumer Affairs.

The retail giant was accused of inaccurately displaying unit prices for various grocery products in its New Jersey stores in 2023. The law requires grocery retailers to display the price of food and other regulated commodities using a standard unit of measurement, such as per quart, pound, or per 100 sheets. This allows consumers to easily compare prices of products packaged in different sizes or quantities.

During inspections in early 2023, more than 2,000 instances were found where incorrect units of measurement were used at Walmart stores. This made it difficult for shoppers to compare prices.

"As the price of grocery items continues to rise, it's more important than ever to ensure consumers have all the information they need – and are entitled to by law – to make educated decisions on how to spend their money," said Attorney General Matthew Platkin. "The significant fine Walmart will pay as a result of this settlement sends a clear message that New Jersey will not allow retailers to engage in unlawful pricing practices that deny shoppers the ability to easily compare prices to figure out which product is a better buy." A SHOPPER has had enough of Walmart's receipt-checking policy after realizing that workers are not required to stop every customer.

Ever since large retailers like Walmart and Costco began instituting receipt checks at stores across the country a few years ago, shoppers have had complaints.

Several customers have said that the practice makes them feel like criminals, while others have simply lamented about the time it wastes as they are exiting.

And for one Walmart shopper asserted that the lack of resistance from law enforcement shows that they were in the right.

"Went through self checkout at Walmart right in front of an LRPD cop working off duty at the store and a Walmart receipt checker," the shopper wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

"I said 'hi' to the cop and the Walmart dude asked to see my receipt.

"l said 'no sir,' and kept on going.

Pennsylvania Sen. Casey warns Amazon, Target and Walmart over 'greedflation' pricing 06/21/2024

Economists continue to debate how much blame corporations deserve as consumer prices have soared since the pandemic.

Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey has sent letters to Amazon, Target and Walmart over concerns that pricing decisions made at the retail giants since the pandemic may have been driven by aggressive push for profits at the expense of everyday Americans' wallets.

Casey, a three-term Democrat who is in a tight re-election battle that could tip his party's razor-thin majority in the Senate, says in the letters that between June 30, 2020, and June 30, 2022, corporate profits in the United States rose by 75%, roughly five times as fast as inflation, and that the three megaretailers were among the beneficiaries of that phenomenon, which he called "greedflation."

Amazon, Casey said, has seen its profits increase as much as 61% over that time period, while Target's profit increased 31.7% and Walmart's was up 10%, which was about 25% higher overall than they were pre-pandemic. Complete article

Customer Slams Walmart For Trying To 'Poison Us' After Buying A Dozen Eggs With 'Paint' On Them: 'What Is This?' 06/23/2024

In recent years, consumers have grown increasingly cautious about the safety and quality of the food they eat. Concerns about additives, preservatives, and the overall integrity of the food supply chain have led many to scrutinize the products they purchase more closely than ever before. This heightened vigilance is particularly evident in the popularity of organic and locally sourced foods, as people seek greater transparency and assurances about what they are consuming.

A recent viral TikTok video by user Dion (@dion.drange) has sparked a fresh wave of anxiety and discussion regarding food dye, particularly found on Eggland’s Best eggs purchased at Walmart. Find all of the details below.

Soon-to-close Dunwoody Ga. Walmart had constant criminal presence, according to police 06/25/2024

The July 12 closure of the Ashford Dunwoody Road Walmart Supercenter will not only decrease customer traffic to the Perimeter Village shopping center, but will also significantly cut down on the twice-daily police presence at the store.

Walmart, citing underperforming sales, announced that the store would be closing, along with another location in Marietta.

“This decision was not made lightly and was reached only after a careful and thoughtful review process,” Walmart said in the statement. “We have nearly 5,000 stores across the U.S. and unfortunately some do not meet our financial expectations. While our underlying business is strong, this store hasn’t performed as well as we hoped.”

That statement has confounded many regular shoppers, who opine that the real reason behind the store’s closing is the lack of customer service and frequent incidents of shoplifting and other low-level crimes.

The fact that there are two prime parking spots in front of the store that are exclusively reserved for police vehicles speaks volumes. The assumption of frequent criminal presence is backed by facts.

Statistics pulled from Dunwoody Police call records from January 2023 to May 2024 reveal that authorities were called an average of twice a day for mostly low-level criminal activities like shoplifting, disorderly conduct, solicitation, panhandling, and civil disputes. Complete article

How the big listeria recall of ice cream hit Publix, Walmart, Target, Food Lion, others 06/26/2024

No. 1 Walmart and four others among the nation’s top 10 grocery sellers, two popular gourmet market chains and at least one convenience store chain got hit with nationwide recall of 13 brands of ice cream, ice cream sandwiches and gelatos.

They might have listeria.

Manufacturer Totally Cool’s recall announcement said the company has “ceased the production and distribution of the affected products due to FDA sampling, which discovered the presence of listeria monocytogenes. The company continues its investigation and is taking preventive actions.”

Listeria infects about 1,600 Americans each year and kills about 260, according to the CDC, and can cause miscarriages and stillbirths. Florida man arrested after shooting, destroying Walmart delivery drone, deputies say 06/27/2024

CLERMONT, Fla. - A Florida man is behind bars after he allegedly shot a Walmart delivery drone, rendering it inoperable in Lake County, deputies said.

Deputies were called to Walmart at 1450 Johns Lake Road in Clermont on Wednesday after drone delivery representatives reported the incident.

A representative said a two-man crew was campaigning in a nearby community, which included mock deliveries to the crew to attract business and interest, an affidavit stated.

While awaiting a drone delivery's descent, the crew stood in front of a home located in a cul-de-sac. When the drone began to descend, one of the reps said he heard a loud sound consistent with a gun, deputies said.

The rep told deputies he saw a 60-year-old white man wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt at the side of the home holding a gun towards the sky and the drone.

The crew returned to Walmart and had the drone fly back to the store. Deputies said that after inspecting the drone, the company reps discovered $2,500 worth of damage to its payload system.

Deputies returned to the home where the alleged shooting happened, where they met with 72-year-old Dennis Winn.

When asked if he had an incident with a drone, Winn allegedly said he did. He told deputies he saw the drone fly over his home, prompting him to retrieve his gun to fire at it, an affidavit stated.

Winn said he had experiences with drones flying over his home and believed it was watching him. Complete article

Man acquitted after being accused of running over Walmart security guard in Sherbrooke, Que. Canada in April 2020 06/28/2024

The man accused of killing a Walmart security guard in the parking lot of a shopping mall in Sherbrooke, Que., has been found not guilty of all charges related to the incident.

Nacime Kouddar went to trial last winter for allegedly ramming security guard Philippe Jean in the Galeries Quatre Saisons parking lot on April 4, 2020. At Kouddar's trial in February, the court determined that he was in a position of self-defence.

Late Thursday, Quebec Court Judge Hélène Fabi acquitted Kouddar of a charge of hit-and-run causing death. That decision came a day after he was acquitted of charges of manslaughter and dangerous driving causing death.

Kouddar was involved in an altercation with Jean. Police initially said he was told by the security guard he could not go into the store with his partner because Walmart was only letting in one person per vehicle. At the time, physical distancing measures were in effect due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The two men insulted each other and, according to Kouddar, racist comments were exchanged.

He was alleged to have grown frustrated and later returned to the shopping centre, running Jean over with his car in the parking lot. Complete article
