Are Zionists Racist? Is Israel a Theocracy?

Why should I stop there? Why shouldn't I ask if all Jews are racist?

Well, of course their not, and for most of my life I never thought I would consider the possibility that many Zionists might be racist, but there's a growing amount of evidence to indicate they are, but not all Zionists. I have no doubt that if Zionists pay enough attention to this article they will inevitably accuse me of being racists, even though most of my concerns are legitimate issues with the mass murder of Palestinians and occupation that goes back decades at least to the Nakba, which happened just over seventy-five years ago.

Ironically some of the claims that many Jews or Zionists are racist come from Jews or Zionists, and they point to different people as the target of their accusations. I pointed out in a couple previous articles that Jonathan Greenblatt clearly called Jewish Voices for Peace a Hate group when he Tweeted "We long have said that these are hate groups, the photo inverse of white supremacists," 10/18/2023 which was a clear reference to Jewish Voices for Paece and other activists calling for a ceasefire. Jewish Voices for Peace responded to this in Understanding and dismantling antisemitism. 11/16/2023 JVP doesn't go so far as to call Jonathan Greenblatt a racist or the ADL a racist organizations, although other people have, perhaps with plenty of evidence, as I went into previously in Is Israel Committing Genocide? Which Side Is Living a Lie? which cites a coalition of dozens if not hundreds of civil rights groups supporting a boycott of ADL, with support for the claim that they're racist, and JVP accurately refer to them as an "anti-Palestinian organization."

It's widely recognized that Holocaust Denial is a racist belief and if it goes unchecked it could potentially lead to more racists attacks; fortunately when this happens the entire establishment calls it out and this is limited to a small fringe with no credibility. The same does not go for Nakba Denial, which many people have never heard of, for a long time including me, since traditional media never talks about the Nakba and often makes claims as if it had never happened. The Anti-Defamation League provides a brief description of the Nakba on their web site which implies as if it's only the way Palestinians or Israeli Arabs view it, not as if it's well documented fact, and they say or imply that it's used to falsely discredit Israel, but people who don't ignore the most important part of history about the Nakba and other events before and after it will have a hard time dismissing it so easily, and may conclude that Palestinians and Israeli Arabs have many good reasons to doubt Israel's legitimacy of their alleged moral high ground. As I said there's an enormous amount of history behind this, almost all ignored by Zionists, our political establishment and mainstream media, but I've covered a lot of it in my past articles with many good sources, the best of these include Wikipedia: Nakba; Wikipedia: Nakba denial; Ilan Pappe "The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine" 2006; Walid Khalhidi From Haven to Conquest 1971; and a documentary about Tantura (2022). There's plenty more, of course, some which I'll list below again, including a couple focusing on the bias of the ADL, The ADL Is Defaming Palestinian Students as Terrorist Supporters 10/31/2024 and Anti-Defamation League staff decry ‘dishonest’ campaign against Israel critics 02/05/2024.

There's also many examples of Nakba denial including from traditional media as shown in this Video where a reporter claims the Nakba is "still debated," which is technically true, but so is Holocaust Denial. This MSNBC reporter refers to the Nakba when he says “Palestinians feel, & this is debated, that they were forced from their homes.” Following up, host Alex Witt asks, if Palestinians are forced to leave, “will they have the right to return to their homes?” This is an important question of course, and this has also been debated for decades, but there's virtually no discussion about it in mainstream media. If people were familiar with the most accurate history of these events there's no way they could honestly claim that Zionists have the high moral ground, yet they do so any way by denying Nakba, Apartheid, and many other aspects of their history which is heavily censored in traditional media, the political discussion and even in schools, both in Israel and the United States.

The racism of people like Jonathan Greenblatt is much easier to recognize if people are familiar with history and the way he distorts it, since he does a better job presenting himself as rational, including when he's on TV than many other racists, some that I'll get to below, that are more crude. Another indication of Jonathan Greenblatt's racism was indicated in the Tweet I cited above, which also says:

Jonathan Greenblatt: Who in their right mind can watch Hamas terrorists commit atrocities, brutally murder civilians, kidnap children & elderly, & then protest Israel’s right to defend itself???
Let’s get a few things straight:
1. Israel does not occupy Gaza – Hamas does.
2. Stop with the absurd accusation that Israel commits acts of genocide. It’s factually incorrect & dangerous slander.
3. These radical far-left groups don't represent the Jewish community. Far from it. They represent the ugly core of anti-Zionism —> antisemitism.

However his claims are based on a false version of history, and doesn't put historical or recent events in their proper context. For starters, what he calls "Israel’s right to defend itself" involves mass murder of civilians that had nothing to do with the October 7 attack, including well over 25,000 civilians and 13,000 children. In all fairness, this number was much lower at the time he Tweeted it, but they had already begun these atrocities, and anyone familiar with their record of committing mass murder of civilians in retaliation for other forms of resistance to occupation long before Oct. 7 could easily predict their war would escalate much more.

Many more Zionists are much more obvious in their racism, often including even those in positions of power or the media; but our media doesn't cover an enormous amount of evidence showing this, so most of the public isn't aware of it, unless they hear about it on Social Media. but before I get to that, I'll provide a few examples of Jews, including some Zionists, or former Zionists who are not racists, since it's more important to consider how to change this, and alienating them certainly isn't my intention. Some of the most obvious examples are members of groups like Orthodox Jews, Jewish Voices for Peace, If Not Now When, Jews Against White Supremacy, and other Jewish organizations that defend the rights of Palestinians and aren't promoting a heavily censored version of history like a large percentage of Zionists. These people are, of course, the same people Jonathan Greenblatt refers to as "hate groups," not because they hate Palestinians, but because they don't. This claim, of course requires a perverse justification that won't hold up to scrutiny, which is why they try to prevent fact checking of many of their claims.

On top of that there have been many Zionists, or ex-Zionists that I've heard of that described their objections to what Israel is doing, and the process that led them to switch from Zionists to anti-Zionists in some cases. For every one of these that I heard of, often from videos on Social Media describing their views, there are almost certainly many more, perhaps hundreds if not thousands that I never heard of. Perhaps the most detailed narrative, that I know of is from Miko Peled which he describes in his book The General's Son 2012 He was the son of Matti Peled, who was an Israeli General and war hawk before the 1967 war, and as he explains near the end of the book, he found out that the reason his father left the military when he was a child, and became a peace activist, was because of of a massacre he investigated in Gaza during that war, where he wanted action on it, but no action was taken.

His father apparently didn't teach his children to hate, but that they were fighting for a safe place for Jews to live. He writes about how he joined the IDF, as all young adults are required to do, and at one point he objected when they were ordered to train in an occupied Palestinian farm because they were destroying someone else's crops, but no one else seemed to care, since the farm was owned by Palestinians. Later, after he was out of the military, his father had passed away, and his niece was killed in a suicide bombing, he reached out to Palestinians in a California group bringing both Israelis and Arabs together to reconcile their differences peacefully. He introduces himself as a Zionist, and at one point, listens to an Arab discuss his experiences and presents a version of history which Miko was convinced was false, but since he didn't want to start an argument, he didn't challenge it, at least not right away. Then after he checks with his brother, and reads a few sources he realizes that the version he was taught was actually the wrong version of history and that the Arab was much closer to the truth about some things than he was. Then he went on to be a peace activist and eventually declared himself to be an anti-Zionist.

The point is, of course, that this is one of many stories from ex-Zionists or Zionists where they explain how they learned they were taught a false version of history and that they never intended to support an oppressive regime or be bigoted against others, or perhaps, in some cases, they admit they previously were bigoted against others but realized they were wrong and wanted to change. And, alienating other people like them certainly isn't the objective. But unfortunately there are way too many Zionists who really are bigoted, and often have no desire to change, and sometimes even intimidate those that do or other Jews for speaking out in defense of innocent Palestinians.

One of the highest profile examples of a Jew, and Holocaust survivor, who is not racist or denying true history that called out Zionists for their racism was (Video) Hajo Meyer who explained how the Nazis tried to dehumanize him; and now the Zionists are doing the same to Palestinians. 01/27/2024 He discusses how both the Nazis and Zionists use propaganda to distort the truth and how they had similar beliefs about "Blood and soil" which is what the Nazis chanted and Zionists have almost identical beliefs about this. Instead of acknowledging accurate history they distort it and dehumanize their victims to make opression seem justifiable, which is what Nazis previously did to them. This video shows several examples of how this is done that probably took place since Meyer died, but there must have been many more examples when he was alive that he learned from and there's many more examples now going viral on Social Media, some that are listed below. He also explains how he believes that Zionism is incompatible with Judaism, which many other anti-Zionists also claim.

Dr. Hajo Meyer was speaking about Zionists, not Jewish people as a whole:
"Formerly an anti-Semite was someone who didn’t like Jews because of their nature or soul. Nowadays an anti-Semite is someone that some Zionistic Jews don’t like."

Zionists, however, claim that all Jews are, or should be Zionists, even though this has never been close to the truth. If you accept this Zionist claim then Jews who defend the rights of Palestinians shouldn't have the right to choose their own beliefs or oppose Zionism. The truth is that modern Zionism began late in the nineteenth century when Theodore Herzl lead the Zionist movement, starting in 1882; but it wasn't at least until German Nazis drove Jews out of Germany and Austria first, then large portions of Europe that they conquered, and even then many Jews opposed Zionism. Support for Zionism and the state of Israel clearly increased after World War II, largely due to the horror of the Holocaust and the desire for a safe haven, which is reasonable, but when they crossed the line and stole Palestinian land killing 15,000 and expelling 750,000 more during the Nakba that went way too far, and they lost the moral high ground as many Jews have acknowledged.

There are many other Jewish opponents of Zionism, including Albert Einstein and Hannah Arendt, who I mentioned in previous articles, and several mentioned in Hajo Meyer isn’t the only Holocaust survivor who has criticised Israel. Are we to think they are ALL anti-Semites? 08/06/2018, including Gabor Mate, and a few others, (Video) Norman Finkelstein who debunks false claims by Hillary Clinton that it was the Palestinians that sabotaged peace agreements between Palestinians and Israelis. 02/17/2024; (Video) “I'm Jewish, I had family members killed in the Holocaust, imprisoned in Auschwitz, so I feel comfortable denouncing this barbarity that is the Netanyahu government”, says Mário Kértesz. 02/26/2024; and dozens more that I've seen on social media, although I haven't saved links to them all, plus who knows how many I never heard of.

I'm not aware of any credible poll about how much support for Zionism or the State of Israel, but as Jewish Currents point out in Are 95% of Jews Really Zionists? 10/29/2020 Bari Weiss and other Zionist organizations have claimed that “95% of Jews . . . support the Jewish state,” but they claim that "Polls of American Jewish opinion on Israel may not be asking the right questions." They raise further doubts in the article about the statistical analysis; and I found additional doubts myself. There are supposedly about 5.8 million adult Jews and 1.8 million children of Jews in the United States, yet the membership of Jewish Voices for Peace, alone is supposedly about 747,000, which is more than twice the implied anti-Zionist percentage claimed by Bari Weiss, and this doesn't include members of other Jewish anti-Zionist groups, like "If Not Now," "Jews Against White Supremacy," or opponents of Zionism who aren't part of any organization, nor does it include Jews who haven't taken a clear position.

Furthermore, the protests against the attack on civilians in Gaza, often organized by Jewish groups like JVP and If Not Now seem much larger than protests in favor of Israel, which, except for the March on Washington seem very rare, and there were credible reports of financial incentives for people attending that march and attempts to exaggerate the size of it. But, regardless of the size, that protest actually adds to evidence about Zionists being racists, since they chanted "No Ceasefire" several times, even when Van Jones wished that all bombing on both sides would stop. This clearly indicates they support mass murder of many more Palestinian civilians than Israeli civilians, including well over 13,000 children that had nothing to do with October 7. This estimate is already out of date, and when ever I post other estimates they're almost always out of date within a few days, if not sooner.

But, unfortunately, there's an enormous amount of evidence showing that a large percentage of Zionists are racist, and this includes an enormous number of posts going viral on Social Media. In all fairness, as traditional media often warns us, a lot of what is going viral on Social Media may not always be reliable; but a large portion of it has been fact checked, especially when it's about high profile people, so it's much more credible. And the best research on any given subject isn't on traditional media; so when people learn to sort through the most credible sources from academics, Alternative Media, or Social Media, they get much more credible news and history than they get from Traditional Mainstream Media. And in some cases even Mainstream media confirms some of the social media even though they're heavily biased in favor of Israel, including this video of Israeli soldier records himself blowing up a mosque 02/16/2024 which is only six minutes long, and the last two an a half minutes are on a different subject, but it shows a sample of videos where Israeli soldiers are bragging about destruction of property that has nothing to do with catching Hamas and some content that could or should be considered racist. This is only a minuscule fraction of similar videos, many much worse, showing how racists or cruel Zionists or IDF soldiers are which was going viral online for four months before CNN finally reported on it and confirmed at least some of these video. And the only time I saw this video on Cable was a Saturday night when rating are very low, but this is dated the day before, when ratings might have been slightly higher.

These efforts to humiliate Palestinians aren't something that began after October 7 because tehy were angry about the attack either; they've been going on for decades, which adds to evidence that October 7 wasn't unprovoked. This includes the following picture which was allegedly taken by Shani Cohen of Eden Abergil in 2008, clearly humiliating their captives who are blindfolded:

This story went viral on Social Media when the pictures were posted online by Eden Abergil in a photo display titled “The Army.. the most beautiful time of my life 🙂” According to several sources, including A Picture Says A Thousand Words: Facebook Case of Eden Abergil 09/16/2010 which says that after many people were outraged she said “I don’t understand what was not OK.” Additional details about this story came from The best years of her life | Fond memories of blindfolded prisoners 08/16/2010 and a Haaretz article IDF Soldier Posts Images of Blindfolded Palestinians on Facebook, From 'Best Time of My Life' 08/16/2010 which says "In the past year, the IDF has announced new strict rules for soldiers, forbidding them to post photos from military operations and bases." But they had little success preventing soldiers from posting pictures back then any more than they do now and according to Much more graphic IDF “souvenir” pictures emerge 08/17/2010 "Breaking the Silence" released more photos from over fourteen years ago of other outrageous photos where soldiers humiliate prisoners of pose with dead bodies, including some where they were stripped to their underwear, and a photo of them humiliating a child, with soldiers smiling or laughing in many of these. And there are many more going viral from the past four months, the vast majority are being ignored by mainstream media, like they ignore an enormous amount of additional evidence about how racist many Zionists clearly are.

In many cases the bigoted Zionists include people in control of the government as reported in many articles including one a few months before the Oct. 7 attack, 'I'll Blow It Up': Far-right MKs Threaten Summer Camp for Israeli and Palestinian Orphans 06/19/2023 which says "MK Almog Cohen of the far-right Otzma Yehudit party also threatened 'to blow up the camp,' which is being sponsored by the Parents Circle – Families Forum, a nonprofit organization for bereaved Israeli and Palestinian families who have lost loved ones throughout the conflict." Apparently they're outraged by efforts to help children from both sides and teach them not to hate each other. Another member of the Knesset, MK Hanoch Milwidsky said “Maybe we don’t have the legal authority to stop you from doing this, or to force you to end the commercial agreement you made with this despicable organization, but listen well: This government will respond.”

A couple months before that this article came out, Israel: self-proclaimed ‘racist’ politician nominated as New York consul general 04/20/2023 saying "May Golan has insulted Africans in Israel and disparaged the Reform movement, the largest Jewish denomination in the US. Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has nominated a far-right politician who once boasted that she is 'proud to be a racist' as his country’s top diplomat in New York." This has allegedly outraged many American Jews who may not be as racist as her or many other Israeli Jews, even if they do support Israel.

Since the current war began an 18-year-old Israeli girl refuses to join IOF, faces death and rape threats 02/25/2024, this article also discusses at least one more example of young Israelis refusing to serve on moral grounds, but there are many more than that. They spend an enormous amount of time repeating claims of rape by Hamas on October 7, with little evidence, and it's virtually out of the question that they could committed the mass rapes some accuse them of and still gotten away with the hostages; but the evidence of rape threats, and in some cases real rapes by Israeli soldiers or Zionists are often much stronger. And like this teenager other conscientious objectors often get threatened or harassed for refusing to join an army that routinely abuses and humiliates Palestinians, often without criminal charges or reason to suspect them of any crime; and, of course, in the past four months they killed close to, if not more than 30,000 Palestinians, including well over 13,000 children, few if any that have been conclusively been implicated in the Oct. 7 attacks.

In one high profile case as explained in 'It is a time of witch hunts in Israel': teacher held in solitary confinement for posting concern about Gaza deaths 01/13/2024 which says

Meir Baruchin, who was fired and jailed for criticising the military, says that many who agree with him are afraid to go public. An unlikely charge of intent to commit treason landed Meir Baruchin, a grey-haired, softly spoken history and civics teacher, in the solitary confinement wing of Jerusalem's notorious “Russian Compound” prison in early November.

The evidence compiled by police who handcuffed him, then drove to his apartment and ransacked it as he watched, was a series of Facebook posts he’d made, mourning the civilians killed in Gaza, criticising the Israeli military, and warning against wars of revenge.

“Horrific images are pouring in from Gaza. Entire families were wiped out. I don’t usually upload pictures like this, but look what we do in revenge,” said a message on 8 October, below a picture of the Abu Daqqa family, killed in one of the first airstrikes on Gaza. “Anyone who thinks this is justified because of what happened yesterday, should unfriend themselves. I ask everyone else to do everything possible to stop this madness. Stop it now. Not later, Now!!!”

It was the day after Hamas’s horrific attack on Israel, when the country was reeling from the slaughter of 1,200 people and the kidnapping of more than 240.

He knew his views about the Israeli military were controversial; similar criticism at a less volatile time had cost him a teaching post in the city of Rishon LeZion, near Tel Aviv, three years earlier. He also thought expressing them was vitally important as the country decided how to respond.

When there's a massive effort from many people to intimidate or harass people who aren't racist and want to learn how to get along with others and prevent atrocities, there's little doubt that the Zionists turning on other Jews are racist. and there are many other examples, some listed below, like a group of soldiers humiliating captives in the West Bank in this video, Anadolu English: Israeli soldiers mock blindfolded and detained Palestinians in Jenin in video posted on social media, smoking hookah and eating chips 12/19/2023

There's much more evidence of massive amounts of Zionist racism and denial of accurate history, some listed below. There's also little doubt that, for the most part, Israel is a Theocracy, although as some academics like Avi Shlaim point out, some of the leading Zionists, past and present, including Theodore Herzl, Max Nordau, Benjamin Netanyahu, or Jonathan Greenblatt may not be very religious, although they use religious appeals or Bible of Talmud quotes when it suites their political purposes. But Israel is based on religious ties, and recruits immigrants based on those religious beleifs. And they use religion to increase support for Zionism. How can it be doubted that a country based on control of a specific religion, in this case Judaism, isn't a theocracy? A large percentage of Israelis are inspired by their religious leaders, including Rabbi Eliezer Kashtiel among others, who teaches the following racist views:

"Conquering is our command Even if not a single bullet is fired at us, Even if the residents of Gaza who are not the sons of Israel (Jewish) would be constantly offering us flowers with love letters with drawings of hearts, we would be obliged even on Sabbath to start a war to conquer "Eretz Israel" if they are willing to give us back the land of Israel -Very good if not, needs to be conquered, this our land our holy land"

Also, as I reported in my previous article, Is Zionism a Cult? there was a video years before the current war where an Israeli School was teaching little kids to hate Palestinians. This needs to be condemned. This will create violence. 05/19/2021, and the content of the video clearly indicates they're teaching this as part of their religious beliefs, and that they were planning for an inevitable war, which the children predicted, where they would either kill or enslave all Arabs, based on religious beliefs.
