Walmart Crime Report May 2022

The total number of shootings at Walmart surged right back up to sixteen in May, after an unusually small number of shootings in April. There were at least three deaths from these shootings and fourteen injuries, mostly from gunshot wounds, although one person was injured as a result of the panic, without being shot. There were few if any officer involved shootings, which is unusual, since there are almost always a few, including some of the fatal shootings, and on a few occasions close to half of the shootings in a month have been officer involved shootings. As usual, victims of the shootings include customers, employees and at least one security officer, and one of the deaths was a suicide. There was also another shooting reported late from the end of March, which raises the total shootings for that month to thirteen.

In addition to the three people killed in shootings, there were also three more bodies found in their parking lots or nearby and four people killed in auto accidents, including one infant. The infant and a man in the same car were killed in an accident following a chase that began with shoplifting minor items, including baby items. There was also an update on another crash from two and a half years ago, when another chase starting as a petty theft led to the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn child, which was not previously reported. It's easy to blame the petty theieves for getting in a chase and crash; but it's hard to see how we can absolve an economic system that keeps working class people poor and drives a certain percentage to desperate measures, especially when other countries have done a much better job solving thier social problems, and have less crime, including murders or crashes over petty theft. If you Google it, there are far more problems with white collar crime than traditional crime, and it's rarely prosecuted to the same extent, and it contributes to desperate people committing traditional crime. Regardless of what can be done to prevent it, this brings the total to at least ten deaths last month, not counting the one from 2019, which was a record breaking year for both shootings and deaths, and this incident increases that record for deaths.

Walmart had over a dozen more gun related crimes last month as well, including a theft of guns, several robberies, rumors of active shooters, or threats of shootings, which didn't happen, a man beating a woman with a gun, and an armed attempted carjacking, which was committed by a man who had robbed others firing shots at a different location.

Walmart also had at least five major brawls or fights, including several attacks on management or security, one where someone had their neck broken and another where an employee was knocked out by a customer that refused to pay. One mother found a crack pipe in her grocery delivery from Walmart in front of her three year old child; and a man was caught taking a drunken joyride on a motorized cart while drinking beer without paying for it. There were also numerous examples where customers were cited for theft at the self-checkout for incidents that may have been mistakes. They're willing to pay security to entrap you, but not cashiers to help you and make these accidents much less likely, if not virtually eliminate them.

In addition to the three accidents that killed four people there were also more than half a dozen, if not a dozen other major accidents, chases, carjackings or other automobile crimes, which often don't get widely reported, so this may be a major underestimate. There has still been no final explanation for the cause of the Indiana fire two months ago, which was probably the biggest fire Walmart ever had lasting two days, but there should be little doubt that they should have been much better prepared to put it out much sooner, whether it was arson or an accident, and they should have figured this out by now. There have been at least four more fires last month, including at least two arson and others where the cause wasn't reported yet, the last one was a major one and was reported on video by people there at the time. This turns out to have been started by a child, but there has been at least one or two previous fires started specifically so they could be filmed, although that doesn't appear to be the case this time.

Walmart had at least five more stabbings or knife threats last month, two resulting in injuries, and one of the other threats was from a convicted murderer. Walmart had at least two more grand larcenies of property allegedly worth over two thousand dollars, although one of these thefts of jewelry, which is valued based on hyped up ads and has little real practical use, there was also a smaller theft of a ring as well, which also had little use but could have resulted in serious injury. There should be little doubt that hype about useless products like jewelry are increasing crime and violence based on shallow attempts to feel important, as a result of deceptive ads. They also had a drug dealer chased through the premises, who dropped his drugs in an attempt to lose the evidence, which didn't work.

Walmart had at least half a dozen more recalls including another recall of ground beef, which has happened at least once or twice more since the beginning of the year, a recall for Lidocaine, which was falsely advertised, ham, Jif peanut butter which may have Salmonella, ready to eat sausage sticks, and strawberries which may cause hepatitis A. There were also people that got sick from an odor of gas at one store, which closed while the source was confirmed or corrected. These recalls rarely get much media attention, so many people using the products may never know about it.

Another video from an ex-Walmart worker has gone viral talking out their notorious anti-union propaganda they're shown during their training, which was clearly designed to intimidate, and may border on being illegal, although laws protecting workers are very weak. There was also a social media influencer who blasted Walmart for not giving him a cut when he promoted Patti LBelle's Pies and helped them break sales records. I can't imagine why social media pundits would do this unless they have an incentive and would be skeptical of any social media posts that look like ads. Another alleged social influencer claims the real reasons for "call for help" messages are often for age restricted items or recalls, which certainly sounds better than other reports that they're hiring people to spy on you when they could be hiring cashiers, which has also been reported. Some of these worker social media announcements certainly are legitimate, but others seem to be designed to help improve Walmart's reputation or discourage shoplifting; I'm not ruling out the possibility that these are unofficially sanctioned by Walmart.

Walmart has been exposed for financing politicians that are trying to outlaw abortion, which may be another motive for boycotts, although these are often ignored by complacent people. They were also exposed for one of their suppliers throwing mangled chicks alive into a macerator; which may outrage some people, but as Upton Sinclair found out when he wrote the Jungle, it might attract more attention if it makes their food dangerous for customers. They're also constantly facing lawsuits including claims of racism, opioid abuse which a judge will decide on soon, a suit over spilled oil which a jury found in their favor, right or wrong, a religious discrimination suit which they just settled, instead of appealing again, possibly because of recent Supreme Court activity, a suit against Greenpeace that has been going on for a long time about misleading people about plastics, which is happening but other corporations like Coke and Pepsi are as much if not more responsible for deceptive ads, and a suit where the plaintiff was awarded $1.3 million, assuming they don't appeal, which they almost always do.

Walmart is increasing the use of automation in many ways, including driverless cars, drones being used for delivery, automated distribution, and more. There have already been problems with this, of course, but it remains to be seen how many more problems happen with increased volume, and possible corner cutting that might follow. Do you want Walmart making decisions on this based almost entirely on perceived profits? They're also heavily involved in the baby formula shortage, and other shortages, which are resulting in many empty shelves, partly due to mopolization and corner cutting.

When Walmart squeezes both workers and customers at every opportunity if it helps increase profits, is it surprising if some of them go overboard occasionally, even if the vast majority are much better behaved? One employee started throwing boxes around the store hitting at least one customer; and another wished she was "off the clock" when a customer called her a "trifling little hoe."

Another customer was outraged, justified or not, stripped, wet the floor, and punched the cleark, before she put her clothes back on in time to get arrested; and another man was arrested for masterbating in the store; and one woman driving a cart into displays telling workers to fuck off.

With people behaving like this you would think they wouldn't be so upset with animals that are often much better behaved; and in the case of a rabbit eating in the garden, perhaps only because the only people noticing him were customers when they filmed him.

They didn't mind when the bear came to visit, and left on his own.

But when the snake showed up they called the police, although I can't imagine what crime they thought he committed.

Nor did they let the fawn go on his own, and took him into custody instead allowing the people that rescued him to take care of him, without explanation.

These animals aren't that uncommon at Walmart, nor in one case, is a allegedly haunted Walmart poles in Maine two of which were hit at least thirteen times; the person writing it up in the news seems to think they were a result of people missing it in their blind spot, but they showed at least eight pictures, and they all show vehicles hitting it from the front, not backing up. I don't know how he came to the conclusion that blind spots are in front of cars.

What could be stranger than these things at Walmart? Are you expecting Moses to come back and claim Walmart parking lots are more dangerous than the Red Sea? If so, you might be too far off.

Strange things happen at Walmart!

In 2006 Wake Up Walmart did a study, "Is Walmart Safe?" based on incidents in 2004, (PDF) about crime at Walmart which showed that it increased when Walmarts opened up and that crime was higher at Walmart than at other retailers. Since then Walmart Shootings began compiling a list of gun related incidents at Walmart and demonstrated that they have a large number of them, including on average more than one shooting per week somewhere in the country; now after counting them for several years that average is over two per week. In January of 2014 another study, "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" provided additional statistical research indicating that Walmart might be contributing to higher crime rates or at least a slowing of the decline in crime. The study found that. “on average, communities with Walmarts had 17 more property crimes and two more violent crimes per 10,000 people than those communities without Walmarts.” I reviewed this more in Walmart’s crime problem, Rolling Back Safety more than prices? where I explained that although this study is helpful they could have done better with additional data that is available and I reviewed some of that. I also added my own review about why I think that Walmart policies have been contributing to higher crime in a previous blog, Walmart high crime rate continues un-investigaterd and have provided additional information under the author tag Walmart Crime Watch.

Stacy Mitchell has also compiled a list of other studies about Walmart and how they impact society, Key Studies on Big-Box Retail & Independent Business. To the best of my knowledge Walmart has done as little as they seem to get away with, often relying on rhetoric that isn't backed up with action, when it comes to addressing any of their critics concerns, including crime. One of the responses they’ve come up with is what they call "Restorative Justice" which gives first time shoplifters a chance to avoid being arrested or any criminal record if they take an on line course which costs $400 up front or $500 in payments, plus perhaps, reparations. This has been part of the privatization process and often denies suspects of the due process or access to a lawyer, perhaps even intimidating and extorting from some people that might not even be guilty. Walmart seems to be trying to find a way to turn crime into a profit making situation instead of looking for the most effective ways to reduce it. Making Change at Walmart is asking If you or someone you know has gone through @Walmart's "Restorative Justice" program for first-time suspected shoplifters, send us a DM. 03/30/2017 to ensure that it isn’t doing more harm than good. I did my own review of this program as well at Walmart’s “Restorative Justice” Endangers Public Without Reducing Crime. The following are a list of incidents that occurred in May 2022. According to the "Is Walmart Safe?" the average store in their sampling had 250 incidents per year indicating that these are only a fraction of the crime reports at Walmart, and presumably, the ones most likely to make the news on the internet nationwide. This isn't statistically representative, as the 2006 or the "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" study or some of the studies cited by Stacy Mitchell; but it does provide some additional information that may help recognize how many problems there are at Walmart.

Walmart Employee Hit Woman with Boxes While Throwing Them in Store 05/02/2022

Working in retail can be a pretty brutal job, especially when it's at a massive store that offers a variety of different items, just because there's so much inventory to account for. And while there are protocols set in place, along with corporate store planning and different shelving maps/arrangements to keep things as organized as possible, people still need to physically load these items on shelves and make sure the store's easy enough to navigate for shoppers to buy what they need.

And if you've ever worked retail at any of these fine establishments, then you'll know that there's pretty much always work to be done. Whether it's customers leaving products at the register or in different aisles, cleaning up spills/messes, helping someone with a loss prevention case, or getting a key for the electronics department to assist a parent buying a surprise gift for their kid, you're almost always being pulled in various directions.

What's worse is when a bunch of folks call out of work and leave you doing the jobs of multiple people and all for an amount of money that is barely enough to exist, let alone have any kind of financial future.

All of that can take a toll on a person and some employees lash out while at work; combining not wanting to be at a place with a low salary can sometimes be a recipe for disaster.

Which is exactly what a lot of TikTokers think happened in a now viral clip uploaded by user @sam.a.nt.ha who claims that a disgruntled Walmart employee was breaking down/throwing boxes and hit them in the process of their workplace outburst.

Samantha claims that prior to uploading the video she was hit by a box tossed by the Walmart worker and proceeded to record the woman throwing boxes from a stack that appears to have toppled over. Complete article

‘Let me off the clock’: Karen calls Walmart employee a ‘trifling little hoe’ 05/04/2022

A Walmart employee captured a woman she called a “Karen” yelling at her while she was at work and calling her a “little girl” and a “trifling little hoe.”

TikToker Rachel Timsina posted the video on April 9. The TikTok, which has almost 6 million views, doesn’t provide much context for the situation, but Timsina explained why the woman began yelling at her in an Instagram direct message to the Daily Dot.

According to Timsina, the woman asked her to bring down a garden seating set that weighs over 200 pounds and was hanging high up on the store’s wall. Timsina told the Daily Dot that because she’s not authorized to use the machine that would be able to bring the couch set down off the wall, she would have to ask a different employee.

“Why would I disturb him,” Timsina said of the employee, who was on a 15-minute break. In a follow-up TikTok, Timsina says that she then told the woman to go to the store’s customer service desk.

Timsina says she turned her camera on to capture the woman yelling at her. The woman comments on the way Tismina is “smirking” and “laughing” at her.

In the TikTok, Tismina says “let me get off the clock,” implying that if she weren’t working, she would physically fight the woman. Complete article

Washington, DC, May 2, 2022 – Greenpeace on Friday submitted its opposition to the motion filed by Walmart to dismiss its lawsuit. Bentonville, Ark. – Today, PETA sent a letter to Doug McMillon, president and CEO of locally based Walmart, asking him to reexamine the company’s relationship with chicken supplier Wayne Farms—the seventh-largest poultry producer in the U.S.—in light of video footage from a whistleblower revealing that unprofitable, injured, and overlooked chicks at a hatchery in Georgia were kept in stacked, filthy crates for prolonged periods before being dropped into a macerator and ground up alive.

If the whistleblower hadn’t taken the initiative to check the crates each day, the chicks allegedly would have suffered into the following day before being killed. Grinding up unwanted chicks is standard practice in the chicken industry.

“The video footage is shocking and shows that injured chicks were left to suffer before being dumped alive into a grinder as if they were trash,” says PETA Vice President of Evidence Analysis Dan Paden. “PETA urges Wayne Farms’ customers to reexamine their ties to this company, and we remind the public that the only truly humane meal is a vegan one.” Complete article

Woman alleges racism at Regina Walmart; retailer concludes claim ‘unsubstantiated’ 05/09/2022

After receiving the results of an investigation into what she calls a “racist” incident at a Regina Walmart, Joyce Keepness is calling for an apology from the retailer.

“I’m disappointed, I have to say,” the 69-year-old Saulteaux elder said at a media event held in the Walmart’s parking lot Friday morning. She added she’d like a chance to talk to the employees she alleges caused the incident about her culture as well.

In a report outlining the conclusions of the investigation, a Walmart Canada investigator called the claims “unsubstantiated,” and said its discrimination and harassment policy was not violated and that no significant action would be taken against the employees involved.

Keepness said she was shopping at the Walmart on Prince of Wales Drive on Oct. 21, 2021. She spoke to an employee about buying $1,000 in gift cards but said that the employee was skeptical about the purchase.

“He looked at me and said ‘what do you want them for?’ I said ‘gifts’. I was shocked,” Keepness said.

“He said ‘you know there’s people scamming old people. You know you could be buying them for someone who is going to scam old people.'”

She said the employee then told her that the gift cards weren’t in stock that day, which the Walmart investigator also stated in her conclusions.

However, Keepness said that soon after, on that same day, a light-skinned coworker went to the same Walmart by herself and “got the gift cards, no question.” Complete article

You Have Got to be Kidding! The Auburn Me. Walmart Pole Was Hit Again 05/11/2022

Is there no stopping this pole?

This makes 13 times we've written about that possessed Auburn Walmart pole. There are two poles taking out cars. There's the green one and the OG pole - the yellow killer. That's what happened to this poor bastard.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. I know I'm not alone when I ask myself, how does this happen? Or should I say, how does this KEEP happening?

I will say, I drive a Kia Sorento and my side-view mirror can sometimes present a blind spot, especially when turning left. There is a curb I go around every day on my way home and I sit up in my car to see over my side mirror to make sure I'm plenty away from any curb or pole. This pole...this car killing pole, could be taking out cars simply because of that side-view mirror blind spot. Now, I'm not saying the driver is faultless, farrrr from it. But when you aren't expecting a pole and you aren't paying attention and you...blah, blah, blah - WHAM! Complete article

Judge to Decide How Much Walmart, Other Pharmacies Owe Over Opioid Crisis 05/10/2022

CLEVELAND (AP) — A hearing has begun in federal court in Cleveland for a judge to determine how much CVS, Walgreens and Walmart pharmacies should pay two Ohio counties to help them ease the ongoing costs and problems caused by the opioid crisis.

A jury in November found the pharmacy chains responsible for recklessly distributing massive amounts of pain pills in Lake and Trumbull counties. It was the first time pharmacies in the U.S. have been held responsible for the opioid crisis.

Plaintiff's attorneys said before trial that each county needs about $1 billion to repair the damage caused by the flood of pills, which caused hundreds of overdose deaths.

Around 80 million prescription painkillers were dispensed in Trumbull County between 2012 and 2016 — 400 for every county resident — while 61 million pills were dispensed in Lake County during that five-year period — 265 pills for every resident. Complete article

Affidavit: Man, pregnant woman stole from Wichita Kansas Walmart before deadly Nov. 2019 crash 05/12/2022

In the minutes before a man and a pregnant woman blew through a stop sign in a northwest Wichita neighborhood, causing a traffic crash that killed both the woman and her unborn child in 2019, witnesses saw the pair shoplifting hundreds of dollars worth of household appliances, baby clothes and ground beef from a northwest Wichita Walmart store, according to an arrest affidavit released last week in response to a request from the Eagle.

The affidavit, filed in Sedgwick County District Court, gives new details about what led up to the traffic crash that killed 28-year-old Sierra Frost and her unborn daughter more than two years ago.

Jerry Lynn Batts, the driver of the vehicle Frost was in, survived the collision but broke his back. Prosecutors earlier this year charged Batts with two felony counts of second-degree reckless murder and two felony counts of involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in connection with Frost and the fetus’ Nov. 11, 2019, deaths. AT&T, Walmart, Citi, and other megacorporations bankrolled a likely wave of state abortion bans 05/12/2022

The last time you filled up at Exxon, grabbed paper towels at Walmart, or paid your AT&T bill, your dollars may have been used to fund an expected wave of state abortion bans.

An Insider investigation found that contributions from dozens of well-known corporations or their affiliated PACs played a decisive role in bankrolling the lawmakers behind 13 state "trigger laws," written to take effect immediately if the landmark Roe v. Wade decision is overturned.

The state legislators and governors responsible for these laws, passed between 2005 and 2022, are overwhelmingly Republican, and they relied heavily on Republican parties and political action committees for campaign contributions. But they were also backed by companies that are part of your daily life, such as AT&T, Comcast Corp., CVS Caremark, Citigroup, Walmart, Anheuser-Busch, Exxon Mobil, and UPS, which each gave more than $150,000 to the effort — in some cases, far more. One man arrested, NY Walmart store temporarily closes as officials warn of prosecutions against those making 'terroristic threats' 05/16/2022

The warnings came as one man was arrested after allegedly threatening a pizzeria and downtown brewery on Sunday, and the Walmart on Sheridan Avenue in Amherst closed Monday afternoon due to apparent threats against store.

"Let me be clear," said Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown at a news conference Monday. "The Buffalo Police Department and partnering law enforcement agencies are investigating these social media posts and will prosecute, if necessary."

Joseph S. Chowaniec, 52, of Buffalo, was arrested Sunday and charged with calling both Bocce Pizza and Southern Tier Brewing in the city, threatening violence and alluding to the Tops killings. Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said Chowaniec was held overnight and charged with making a terroristic threat, a lower level felony. Moses Sues Walmart, Claims Parking Lot More Dangerous Than Red Sea 05/17/2022

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you’re Moses, the Red Sea parts for you. That’s just what it does. But if you’re Ellen Moses of Palm Beach County, the Walmart parking lot at 16205 South Military Trail in Delray Beach does nothing. Other than allegedly cause permanent and debilitating injuries.

According to a lawsuit just filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court, Ellen Moses was walking in the parking lot at Walmart when ”her foot struck an area of raised pavement.” The suit states she tripped, fell, and sustained ”serious and permanent physical injuries.”

Attorneys for Ellen Moses, and her husband Charles, say that Walmart was well aware of the dangerous condition in the parking lot and did nothing to fix it. That, according to the suit, left Moses with little more than prayer. Walmart has not responded — it’s unclear if much like Baby Moses, the company is in Denial. Complete article

If You Bought Black Forest Ham at Walmart, Throw It Out Now 05/19/2022

The Great Value brand at Walmart is a staple in many households across the U.S. because of its cost, but one meat item sold recently could be dangerous to the health of anyone who eats it, according to the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

In a public health alert published on May 18, FSIS outlines why the ready-to-eat Black Forest Ham item should not be eaten and instead thrown out if it is in your kitchen because the product could be undercooked. This means that harmful bacteria may not have been killed during the manufacturing process before the ham reached shelves.

The meat in question comes in 1-pound Great Value resealable plastic with a "Best if used by" date of 07/15/22 and the number EST. 26C on the front. The package features a picture of a ham sandwich on the front, with a green label saying "97% Fat Free" and a red label showing it is 1 pound. They were shipped to and sold at Walmart stores in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Complete article

New Kansas law will let Walmart, Gatik put autonomous vehicles on the road 05/20/2022

Autonomous vehicle company Gatik and its customers, including retail giant Walmart, now will be able to put medium-duty driverless delivery vehicles on the road in Kansas after Gov. Laura Kelly’s signing of a bill last week.

The law allows fully autonomous trucks — meaning without a human safety driver in the cab — and makes Kansas the 25th state to pass such legislation, Gatik said in a release announcing the expansion of its operations into Kansas.

An “autonomous vehicle advisory committee” the law created will launch to provide standards, education and training, Forbes reports. The new statute applies to more than simply Gatik, which is based in Mountain View, California. It covers driverless-capable vehicles less than 34,000 pounds and with just two axles. Alleged Ex-Walmart Worker Recalls 'Anti-Union Propaganda' With Creepy Song 05/20/2022

A video from an alleged ex-Walmart worker has sparked a conversation about company training videos that teach "anti-union propaganda."

Unionization has been on the rise at large corporations across the United States. Starbucks workers have unionized over 50 stores as of this month, although none had union membership until last year when the first U.S. Starbucks unionized in Buffalo, New York. In April, Amazon warehouse workers in Staten Island, New York voted for the company's first-ever union.

In the first half of Fiscal Year 2022, petitions for union membership increased 57 percent from last year, according to the National Labor Relations Board. Public approval of labor unions hit 68 percent in 2021, its highest level since 1965, a Gallup poll showed. ....

Walmart has employed surveillance technology to monitor its workers during union battles. Leaked internal documents from Walmart included methods for monitoring employee activity and conversations about union activism, Newsweek reported last year.

The TikTok video's comments section brimmed with stories from viewers who said they had been fed "propaganda" by their own employers. Complete article

Tucson Ariz. Walmart self-checkout shoppers cited and sent to court for mistakes 05/24/2022

TUCSON,Ariz.(KGUN) — Imagine checking out at a store, only to discover you accidentally missed an item. It's an easy mistake to make, but for several people KGUN 9 spoke with, their mistake cost them a ticket and a hit on their record.

"Out of the shadows, two women just jumped out at me and grabbed the cart and ushered me all the way back across the store, into a tiny little interrogation room, if you will, and told me I was being arrested for shoplifting," She said. "And I was just in complete and total shock because I had absolutely no knowledge, let alone the intention of not paying for my items."

A woman, who does not want to be identified, says she was given a petty theft citation at the Walmart off La Cholla at 7635 N La Cholla Blvd B in Tucson. She says she accidentally forgot to scan a few items during check out.

"They proceeded to hold me there. For about an hour and a half. They called the sheriff. They said because it was over $30 they would have to arrest me. I've never been arrested in my life. I'm in my 60s and they were just very rude and inconsiderate and I kept asking them to explain things because I didn't understand what was going on," She said. "The sheriff came, he read me my rights. I had to sign some things, then he offered to stay and chat with me afterward because he could tell I was so upset." Complete article

Skowhegan Maine Walmart deli customers may have been exposed to hepatitis A 05/24/2022

Customers who bought food from the deli at the Skowhegan Walmart may have been exposed to hepatitis A. A deli worker who was ill with hepatitis A handled food while infectious this Monday, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention spokesperson Robert Long said Tuesday.

Anyone who bought food at the deli between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on May 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19 and 21 and ate it is at risk of contracting the contagious liver disease, according to Long. Long advised anyone who bought food on those dates from the deli should throw it away. He added that no other food was potentially contaminated.

Anyone who may have eaten food purchased on the above dates should get vaccinated within 14 days of their exposure, according to Long. Those already vaccinated against hepatitis A do not need to get another dose.

A vaccination isn’t recommended for those outside the 14-day window when it is effective against infection, but they should watch for hepatitis A symptoms, which can show 15 to 50 days after exposure. Complete article

Walmart Just Settled A Religious Discrimination Case – What That Could Mean For Religious Accommodations In The Workplace 05/24/2022

The majority of civil cases settle before they get resolved by a court. Many of these lawsuits settle before trial, although some cases settle after trial and during the appeals process. But it’s rare for a case to settle after someone petitions the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case.

Why would a litigant spend tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of dollars and years in litigation, only to settle a case after the highest court takes the case? One obvious answer is fear of losing the case, although there could be more to it than that.

Let’s say you won at the trial level and won again on appeal. Odds are good that you’ll win at the U.S. Supreme Court. But there’s no guarantee of another legal victory. And sometimes, losing the case could mean much more than just losing the case. It could result in a legal change that means you could lose many more cases like this one in the future. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control are investigating a link between strawberries sold nationwide in stores such as Walmart and Aldi and hepatitis A.

The FDA announced Saturday people should not eat, serve or sell FreshKampo or H-E-B brand organic strawberries if they were purchased between March 5 and April 25th.

“Currently, the potentially affected FreshKampo and HEB products are past shelf life. People who purchased FreshKampo and HEB fresh organic strawberries between March 5, 2022, and April 25, 2022, and then froze those strawberries for later consumption should not eat them,” the USDA said. Walmart store in Elmwood La. closed after fire causes 'significant' damage; see video 05/31/2022

The Walmart store located in Elmwood is closed to the public after a fire caused "significant" damage to the business Monday night, according to Jefferson Parish officials.

No one was injured in the blaze, which was reported about 9:44 p.m. at the Walmart located at 5110 Jefferson Highway (map), Jefferson Parish government spokesperson Gretchen Hirt Gendron said.

The cause of the one-alarm blaze is still under investigation. But the fire caused quite a bit of damage to the store.

A second fire was reported Tuesday morning. The fire was electrical, Grendron said, caused by the large amount of water on the store's floor after Monday's fire-fighting efforts. Complete article

If You Bought Ready-to-eat Sausage Sticks and Luncheon Loaf Products at Walmart, Kroger, or Aldi, Throw It Out Now, FDA Warns 05/31/2022

Even as lingering supply chain issues have made customers less confident about finding specific items on the shelf, most shoppers rest assured that the products they pick up at the store are safe to consume. After all, strict requirements and regulations for manufacturers help keep the public out of harm's way. But in some cases, it may only be after certain items are distributed and sold that major health agencies can sound the alarm on a potential problem.

Recently, authorities have issued several far-reaching recalls affecting a wide range of retailers. On May 18, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food and Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that America New York Ri Wang Food Group Co., Ltd. was voluntarily recalling 14,635 pounds of its ready-to-eat sausage sticks and luncheon loaf products after a customer reported finding two pieces of metal in one of their products.

And since an initial announcement on May 20, the FDA has issued a string of recalls related to J.M. Smucker Co.'s discovery of potential Salmonella contamination in its peanut butter products. The wide range of affected items includes fresh fruit snack cups prepared by Albertsons Companies and sold by more than 20 grocery store chains, as well as certain fudge products sold by Walmart. 5 Warnings to Shoppers From Ex-Walmart Employees 05/30/2022

1 The security cameras can read your texts.

Walmart's security cameras aren't messing around. According to a former employee who goes by @obeygoddess on TikTok, they offer complete coverage of the store and are so high definition that you can zoom in to read a shopper's text messages.

"One of the first things they did [during training] was bring us to the loss prevention room and zoom in so far [on a camera image] that you could literally read the date on the newspaper," she says in a viral video. "They were trying to show us that if you steal from Walmart they will see."

2 The self-checkout machines are more supervised than you think. ....

4 There are plainclothes security officers in the store.

If you're in a Walmart, the shoppers next to you may not be shoppers—they could be undercover security. Mars also notes she saw this during her tenure at the store. "There is security dressed in plain clothes and they look like customers," she says. "They pretend that they're shopping—they might have a cart, they might have a basket—but they're watching you."

What's more, she says these workers may even be incentivized to catch shoplifters: "I was told that for every person that they catch in Walmart they get like a percentage, or raise, or commission for the person that they caught." Complete article
