Walmart had another eleven shootings last month, with at least two fatal ones, including one officer involved shooting, and only a handful of injuries. The officer involved shooting turned out to be a suicide, but apparently when the police saw the suicide they didn't realize what happened they panicked and shot into the car of the deceased person, but they later found out they didn't hit him and he was killed by his own gun. Another one of the shootings with serious injuries was between two Walmart employees that got into a fight and one shot the other several times, which is much more common than most people suspect. At least two or three of these shootings were accidental, with at least one of those where someone shot themselves.
There was also a twelfth shooting with a third fatality relatively close to a Walmart, but it was unrelated to their business. There were several follow up stories for previous Walmart shootings, including another former Walmart employee sentenced to death for July 2019 murders that happened right before the infamous El Paso mass murders. When the El Paso mass murders happened a handful of news outlets reminded the public of this to show what they perceived as a trend, but then it was forgotten; it actually is a trend, but it's much bigger, and the media doesn't try to put most of them together. Another report claimed a fatal police shooting from Sept. 2024 was justified; and a third report of a police chase related to a Walmart shooting last April happened in June, this chase wasn't at Walmart and it's unclear if the suspect in both the shooting and chase was caught, but they ended the chase without catching him at the time.
In addition to the two people killed in shootings there were four people killed in separate accidents, two bodies found at separate stores, and three deaths from listeria related to a recall of ready to eat meals sold at Walmart or Kroger, for a total of eight to eleven deaths, depending on where the fatal meals were bought, related to Walmart business last month.
There were also more than half a dozen, if not much more, other gun crimes not involving shootings, including robberies, gun thefts or attempted gun thefts, armed shoplifting, domestic arguments, mass shooting threats, and more.
Another police department in Missouri has said that arrests for theft at Walmart were cut by more than half when they closed their self-checkout, which should surprise no one, although the media hasn't done an adequate job explaining the evidence which has been available since they began experimenting with self-checkout, so those relying on traditional media might be surprised. There have been dozens if not hundreds of reports from police departments, including another one from last month with less detail, saying that crime has been much worse at Walmart than other stores for decades, and numerous studies from other sources back this conclusion up; but most of them have only been reported locally, so most people aren't aware of the full amount of evidence showing they're creating their own crime problems. It's virtually guaranteed that they had internal studies from early on when they experimented with self-checkout, but they haven't disclosed this. This wouldn't be unprecedented if it's true; over ten years ago they did an internal study showing a Walmart security guard patrolling the parking lots would reduce crime against their customers, but they didn't want to pay for security guards across the country so they suppressed the report, or at least they tried, but it was leaked, so we have a precedent showing they will hide research if it protects profits at the expense of safety.
There are more reports of a police officer arrested for shoplifting at Walmart while in uniform, this time a police chief, but like other police officers he was relieved of duty immediately. When they get caught using violence or even killing lower income people they're often kept on the job and defended to the best of their ability by police unions, even with compelling evidence, but stealing from a wealthy corporation is a different story, where there's no excuse. In this case he was involved in a lawsuit claiming he was fired from a previous police department for racial discrimination and excessive force.
There was also another lawsuit filed against a police officer over a Walmart arrest. There were numerous stories about ICE agents arresting people around the country including at several Walmarts, possibly without respecting the civil rights of either immigrants or citizens, in at least one case, because a citizen objected to lack of due process for an immigrant worker. Both local police officers and Walmart management are cooperating in these arrests, even though they may violate due process rights or other rights, and few of these cases seem to involve criminal activities as the Trump administration said was their primary objective. In a separate incident a police officer was "praised" for delivering groceries for a suspect suspected of petty shoplifting who paid for most of his groceries, ignoring the fact that Walmart creates a magnet for petty crimes with their self-checkout policies and since they're so common many police used to give people summons to court without arrests or confiscating things they did pay for.
There were also various assaults, including a man throwing glass bottles at employees, bomb threats, domestic assaults on customers, police, police assaults on suspects, and a large variety of other crimes, including some involving homeless people. Finland has reported that their "Housing First" program has virtually eliminated homelessness in their country and the cost of the programs are far less than the social problems, including crime, indirectly caused by homelessness; but our media doesn't even report this, despite additional studies in our country as well showing it's far less expensive to solve social problems before they escalate than to ignore them.
In addition to the four deaths from accidents there were several other major accidents, including one that hit the store itself, another hit and run seriously injuring a woman and her infant, and presumably many more minor crimes that didn't make the media, probably for reporting or search changes, not a sudden decrease in accidents. One of the persons found dead in a car after an accident had numerous dogs in the vehicle, who they had to release while attempting to treat the deceased, and they attacked several people before being recaptured.
There was also a van that burst into flames, for unknown reasons, and at least four more fires in their stores, two that were probably electrical accidental fires and the other two are being investigated as arson, one where a trash can was set on fire, and the other was much worse leading to an evacuation closing the store for days. There were at least three major stabbings last month, including one of a deaf Walmart worker, who was well liked, and another that was attempted suicide. Attempted suicides with a knife almost never succeed, especially in a public place where people might be inclined to intervene and provide medical treatment, but there was another successful one in the first couple days of July.
Walmart now has a security robot patrolling the parking lot!
Has Los Vegas calculated the odds for bets about how long it takes before these robots get shot?
That wasn't a joke, they've been asking the same question about how long it takes before someone shot down one of their drones and it finally happened a few months ago, or close to a year. There were plenty of complaints and other problems with their drones, including some that crashed and caused fires, but they kept pushing them through. A couple months or so after the drone was shot down Walmart announced that they were cutting back on drone deliveries except in one location until it was more profitable, but then last month they announced they were expanding them again. I have no doubt they are collecting data about accidents, complaints or other problems, but like studies about safety, that data is considered "confidential" or "proprietary" and there's good reason to suspect, once again, they might put profits ahead of safety or complaints from the public, whether they're customers or not; and anyone shooting the drones or automated security will be held accountable while Walmart's deception or other fraud will continue to be overlooked.
Walmart had at least seven or eight new recalls last month including the ready to eat meals that caused three deaths which I already mentioned, eggs with potential salmonella contamination, electric blankets that burned people or caught fire, hedge trimmers that start on their own, bike helmets that don't meet standards, cots that pinch fingers, and bologna that went bad. They also had one customer that claimed that they got a package of Land O'Lakes butter with Walmart brand butter in it instead.
The person that got caught spraying bug repellent on produce and posting it on Social Media last year was sentenced to a year in prison. They removed the produce when they found out about it, but that wasn't until after he posted it on Social Media, so there's no way of knowing what they sold in between.
Do you really think the bug spray they put on crops in the fields is any less dangerous?
Have you ever seen milk bottles with black splotches that looked like the character "Blurryface?" This may not contaminate the milk, but do you want to take the chance? Or was this at another Walmart?
Do people try to escape with shoplifted good every month at Walmart on a golf cart, or store handicapped cart? It might be close, but they don't create high-speed chases for police catching them.
Have you ever over charged yourself at self-checkout then called the police and claimed Walmart stole from you?
Sometimes Walmart really does steal from customers, but in this case, police arrested the customers, and they rarely if ever hold Walmart accountable, possibly giving them warnings sometimes.
Strange things happen at Walmart!
In 2006 Wake Up Walmart did a study, "Is Walmart Safe?" based on incidents in 2004, (PDF) about crime at Walmart which showed that it increased when Walmarts opened up and that crime was higher at Walmart than at other retailers. Since then Walmart Shootings began compiling a list of gun related incidents at Walmart and demonstrated that they have a large number of them, including on average more than one shooting per week somewhere in the country; now after counting them for several years that average is over two per week. In January of 2014 another study, "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" provided additional statistical research indicating that Walmart might be contributing to higher crime rates or at least a slowing of the decline in crime. The study found that. “on average, communities with Walmarts had 17 more property crimes and two more violent crimes per 10,000 people than those communities without Walmarts.” I reviewed this more in Walmart’s crime problem, Rolling Back Safety more than prices? where I explained that although this study is helpful they could have done better with additional data that is available and I reviewed some of that. I also added my own review about why I think that Walmart policies have been contributing to higher crime in a previous blog, Walmart high crime rate continues un-investigaterd and have provided additional information under the author tag Walmart Crime Watch.
Over the past ten to fifteen years Walmart has been increasing the use of self-checkout, and this has corresponded with a steady increase in shoplifting as well as false accusations, yet they refuse to even discuss returning to the use of cashiers. What most people seem to have forgotten was that when they first did this it was on a small scale as an experiment, presumably to see if it worked before expanding it, which would actually make sense, if they slowed it down or reversed it once they saw how many problems it caused. But that's not what they did. Instead the more problems they had the more they increased use of self-checkout, often claiming that instead of hiring more cashiers again, which worked previously, they resorted to more technology and hiring more security to catch people skip scanning or at other forms of theft. This has led to massive amounts of false accusations, in addition to the real thefts, and when the thefts are real, and they get caught, they often resort to violence, so it endangers both Walmart workers and customers.
Now they're acting as if the rise of shoplifting is happening for some inexplicable reason and even asking police to help them solve this problem, as if it wasn't a problem created by their own policies, and most of the media or politicians aren't pointing out the obvious. This is resulting in a massive increase in arrests, court expenses, and prison expenses, which Walmart isn't paying for, effectively meaning we are subsidizing Walmart's high crime problems with tax money. There's no official explanation for why they're behaving so foolishly; but, since this is a for profit corporation it's not hard to speculate about the most likely reason for it, that they're increasing profits for those making the decisions. But, a large portion of the money saved by not hiring cashiers is spent on technology or security to catch thieves; and, if they had to pay the increase in police, courts and prison costs that would reduce or eliminate their savings, and they would almost certainly reverse their policies, because they wouldn't be increasing profits with self-checkout.
This doesn't even include the risk to the health of both their customers and workers when the worst thieves turn violent, in some cases possibly even shooting and killing people. Every year since 2016 has seen more than a hundred shootings at Walmart, and more often than not, this is increasing, while they ignore the causes of their crime problems. These self-checkouts are also making it easier for thieves to put "skimmers" that collect credit or debit card information from customers that enable them to use their cards illegally, but, once again, the customers are stuck with the tab, not Walmart, so they're doing little or nothing to stop this, even though it's a direct result of their bad policies. And furthermore, courts have ruled that Walmart has a right to detain customers even when they have no reason to believe they're shoplifting, if they simply refuse to show receipts, as a matter of principle. At times some lawyers have claimed they need probable cause to ask to see receipts, which, if a customer goes directly from the register, sometimes even when there's a cashier, to the door they can't possibly have. So this means Walmart is under no obligation to assume their paying customers are innocent until proven guilty, which should raise major constitutional questions!
Stacy Mitchell has also compiled a list of other studies about Walmart and how they impact society, Key Studies on Big-Box Retail & Independent Business. To the best of my knowledge Walmart has done as little as they seem to get away with, often relying on rhetoric that isn't backed up with action, when it comes to addressing any of their critics concerns, including crime. One of the responses they’ve come up with is what they call "Restorative Justice" which gives first time shoplifters a chance to avoid being arrested or any criminal record if they take an on line course which costs $400 up front or $500 in payments, plus perhaps, reparations. This has been part of the privatization process and often denies suspects of the due process or access to a lawyer, perhaps even intimidating and extorting from some people that might not even be guilty. Walmart seems to be trying to find a way to turn crime into a profit making situation instead of looking for the most effective ways to reduce it. Making Change at Walmart is asking If you or someone you know has gone through @Walmart's "Restorative Justice" program for first-time suspected shoplifters, send us a DM. 03/30/2017 to ensure that it isn’t doing more harm than good. I did my own review of this program as well at Walmart’s “Restorative Justice” Endangers Public Without Reducing Crime. The following are a list of incidents that occurred in June 2025. According to the "Is Walmart Safe?" the average store in their sampling had 250 incidents per year indicating that these are only a fraction of the crime reports at Walmart, and presumably, the ones most likely to make the news on the internet nationwide. This isn't statistically representative, as the 2006 or the "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" study or some of the studies cited by Stacy Mitchell; but it does provide some additional information that may help recognize how many problems there are at Walmart.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — A person was found dead inside a vehicle with several aggressive dogs after their car crashed into a light pole at a Bloomington Walmart.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came in around noon Sunday reporting an unconscious person inside a car at Walmart, 3585 W. S.R. 45.
Additional callers also informed police the driver hit a concrete light pole base and that several aggressive dogs inside the car prevented witnesses from accessing the driver.
Deputies and other first responders arrived and found the driver dead inside the car, but also could not access the driver due to the dogs’ behavior.
Eventually, firefighters opened a car door, allowing about eight dogs to escape and charge at bystanders. The dogs bit at least one firefighter and one civilian, police say. They were taken to a hospital for treatment.
After setting up a containment zone, deputies captured five dogs as they roamed the Walmart property, and three others were found later Sunday. All dogs were then safely taken to an animal shelter. Complete article

ROBO SHOP Walmart shopper stunned by new security change that’s a ‘first of its kind’ and customers fear it’s always watching 06/04/2025
The high-tech guard even chatted with a customer.
WALMART has sparked Terminator fears after unleashing a security robot to patrol a store’s parking lot.
Stunned shoppers wondered whether future versions of the creepy gadget will be “armed with tasers and guns.”
Clips of the robot at work in a Walmart parking lot have gone viral across social media - prompting thousands of comments.
Goldpine (@goldpinemusic) posted footage of the retail giant’s automated staffer to her TikTok account on Saturday, which has already racked up hundreds of thousands of views.
It reveals the blue and white colored robot operating on six black wheels, with multiple cameras to spy on shoppers, including a large one on its head.
Goldpine even had a cheeky chat with the robot - which answered back.
While filming the robo-guard, the TikToker told viewers, “This is the first of its kind - he just sized that guy up (in the parking lot).”
She called out to the robot, “Just keeping Walmart safe? The streets of Walmart are rough… cat got your tongue?”
A man’s voice can suddenly be heard from the robot replying, “Yo, what you say?” It's believed the man was using the robot to spy on the car park lot from a hidden location.
The TikToker then asked, “Yo, what’s your name?” She was told by the unseen man, “We don’t have a name yet.” Complete article

Walmart expands drone deliveries to five new cities, including Atlanta Ga. 06/05/2025
Walmart just announced a major expansion of its drone delivery service to five new cities. These areas include Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando, Charlotte and Houston. This makes it the first retailer to offer drone-based deliveries across five states, as the service has already been operating in Arkansas.
This isn't a small beta test, like some of Amazon's pilot programs. Walmart says the service is launching at 100 stores. This is thanks to a partnership with Wing, which operates its drones within FAA guidelines.
“This is real drone delivery at scale,” said Adam Woodworth, CEO of Wing. “People all around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex have made drone delivery part of their normal shopping habits over the past year. Now we’re excited to share this ultra-fast delivery experience with millions more people across many more US cities.” ....
Rival Amazon recently experienced a hiccup with its in-house drone delivery program. There were two crashes, which forced the company to put the project on hold for a bit. It's back now, and can now deliver new items like smartphones and video doorbells. Complete article

Walmart fires migrant workers after Supreme Court let Trump strip them of legal status: report 06/04/2025
Walmart has begun laying off employees at some of its Florida stores after a recent Supreme Court ruling allowed the Trump administration to revoke legal protections previously extended to hundreds of thousands of migrants.
The company has informed staff in at least two locations that continued employment is contingent on obtaining valid work authorization, individuals familiar with the matter told Bloomberg News.
The layoffs stem from the expiration of temporary legal residency status, affecting workers who had previously been permitted to live and work in the US under programs established during the Biden administration.
These terminations are tied to compliance with federal I-9 forms, which employers must use to verify both the identity and employment authorization of their workers. Complete article

Walmart Food Recall Update as FDA Issues Most Severe Risk Level 06/04/2025
Walmart is pulling a popular produce item from store shelves in a dozen Texas locations after federal authorities flagged a potential health hazard.
The company issued a voluntary recall of its Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices over concerns the product may be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacteria that can lead to serious illness.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified the recall as a Class I, the agency's most urgent warning level, signaling the potential for significant public health consequences. .....

Walmart, Amazon consider issuing own stablecoins: WSJ 06/13/2025
Retail giants Walmart and Amazon are reportedly evaluating digital currencies to streamline e‑commerce and boost cross‑border transactions.
Walmart and Amazon are reportedly mulling plans to issue their own US dollar-backed stablecoins for customers, signaling wider institutional stablecoin adoption amid improving regulatory clarity in the United States.
The two retail giants are mulling the development of brand-specific stablecoins, according to people familiar with the matter, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
While neither of the companies confirmed the stablecoin plans, a stablecoin payment system for either could divert billions in cash flow from their banking partners.
Amazon reported $638 billion worth of annual revenue in 2024, with global e-commerce sales reaching about $447 billion for the platform, Statista data shows. Complete article

Arrests Down Since Closure Of Missouri Walmart Self-Checkout Lanes 06/16/2025
Police calls and arrests at one Shrewsbury retailer have dropped by more than half since the removal of self-checkout lanes that were plagued by shoplifting.
Shrewsbury Police Chief Lisa Vargas told city officials on Tuesday that year-to-year police calls to the Walmart Supercenter at 7437 Watson Road are down following the store’s closure of self-checkout lanes last year. Arrests likewise have plummeted.
Walmart removed self-checkout lanes at the Shrewsbury store in April 2024, per Vargas’ request. Prior to the change, many people were bagging items at the self-checkouts and then not paying, Vargas explained.
Vargas presented to the board of aldermen data comparing the time periods of January through May this year and last year. In 2024, the Shrewsbury Police Department responded to 1,915 calls, 509 of which came from Walmart. A year later, police responded to 1,662 calls, with only 183 from Walmart — a significant decrease.
Custodial arrests, in which suspects are detained and booked, also were down, Vargas continued, with her department making 160 arrests from January through May 2024, 108 of which were at Walmart. In the same period this year, Shrewsbury police made just 55 arrests, 49 of which were at Walmart. Complete article

From Walmart to car washes, American companies are getting caught up in ICE raids and protests 06/14/2025
‘Employees are in fear’: Some workers are staying home, and more brands could face boycott campaigns that have become a staple in the fight over social-justice issues.
The Culver City Express Hand Car Wash and Detail in a western section of Los Angeles has been visited twice in recent days by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, advocates say. At a press conference held this week at the facility — a wide, flat, green-roofed building with an expansive parking lot — family members of workers seized there and at other area car washes described losing contact with husbands and fathers.
During the press conference at the car wash, Jaslyn Hernandez said her father had been detained while working there last Sunday and described how he had missed her high-school graduation as a result. ICE vehicles had been circling the area prior to that day, she recalled. Noemi Ciau, whose husband was detained Sunday at a different car wash several miles away, said she learned about the raid of that car wash while shopping and scrolling Facebook. When she rushed to the location, it was deserted.
“We have a business behind us that is closed right now because their employees are in fear,” Dan O’Brien, the mayor of Culver City, which lies between Los Angeles and Santa Monica, said at the press conference.
As the administration of President Donald Trump makes its aggressive deportation push, more businesses — from small shops to multibillion-dollar companies like Coca-Cola Inc. and Constellation Brands Inc. — have started to warn of the potential impact, with some workers affiliated with immigrant groups staying way from their jobs and as Hispanic and other consumers avoid social gatherings and limit spending. And as that crackdown is met with nationwide protests, more brands — like Walmart Inc. — could find themselves caught up in the latest round of boycott campaigns that have become a staple in the fight over social-justice issues. Protestors rally at Southfield Sam’s Club over Walmart’s DEI rollback 06/18/2025
Protestors rallied on Tuesday at Sam’s Club in Southfield to speak out against Walmart’s choice to end its diversity, equity, and inclusion, or DEI, programs. A group of activists stood outside the store entrance hoisting signs and voicing chants. They talked to shoppers and asked them to support other stores that stand for “fairness and equality.”
Sam’s Club is a chain of membership-only warehouse club retail stores in the United States owned by Walmart. The Associated Press reported last November that Walmart was “rolling back its diversity, equity and inclusion policies.”
“Now, we will see if Walmart is equally committed to racism,” Erik Shelley, a Michigan United spokesperson, said. He added that the effort is part of the social action group’s “Week of Resistance for Juneteenth.”
Juneteenth is a holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in a section of the United States. It recognizes June 19, 1865 when enslaved people in Texas were told they were free, more than two years after then-President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation that sought to end slavery. Former U.S. President Joe Biden signed legislation in 2021 that made Juneteenth a federal holiday. It was first celebrated last year as an official state holiday in Michigan. Complete article

Walmart to pay $10 million to settle lawsuit over money transfer fraud 06/20/2025
The Federal Trade Commission accused the retailer of ignoring warning signs that fraudsters used its services to fleece consumers out of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Walmart has agreed to pay $10 million to settle a Federal Trade Commission civil lawsuit accusing the world’s largest retailer of ignoring warning signs that fraudsters used its money transfer services to fleece consumers out of hundreds of millions of dollars.
The settlement was filed on Friday in Chicago federal court, and requires approval by U.S. District Judge Manish Shah.
Walmart also agreed not to process money transfers it suspects are fraudulent, or help sellers and telemarketers it believes are using its services to commit fraud.
“Electronic money transfers are one of the most common ways that scammers tell consumers to send them money, because once it’s sent, it’s gone for good,” said Christopher Mufarrige, director of the FTC consumer protection bureau. “Companies that provide these services must train their employees to comply with the law and work to protect consumers.” Complete article

Walmart employee shares heart-wrenching look into backroom operations: 'The customer never sees' 06/23/2025
"It's such a waste!"
Shoppers are already familiar with cases of excessive plastic packaging that is annoying for buyers and bad for the planet. But as one Walmart employee showed in a recent post, there's even more waste going on behind the scenes that we never see.
What's happening?
The original poster shared a series of photos in the r/Walmart subreddit showing how plastic is collected in their stockroom. "Who's out there that knows the joy of this?" they asked.
The photos show dozens of plastic bags stuffed full of even more plastic and piled into a baling machine that crushes them into a smaller bundle. Theoretically, this will go for recycling.
However, mixed plastics cannot be recycled like this. They must be carefully separated by type, and even one misplaced piece can destroy a whole batch of recycled material. Complete article

Black Workers With Records Sue Walmart For Discriminatory Firings 06/26/2025
Walmart, the largest private employer in the world, has shown a pattern of firing qualified Black workers simply because of past involvement with the legal system — a practice that perpetuates racial and economic inequality. Having a record does not define a person, but Walmart’s discriminatory actions have made it harder for people to rebuild their lives, support their families, and exercise their rights on the job. Hundreds of workers lost their jobs, lost out on raises and benefits, and made it harder for all of them to provide for their families.
Workers with records already face enormous barriers when it comes to employment, housing, and education. Over 2 million Illinois residents are eligible for criminal record relief, yet less than 6,000 convictions were sealed in 2021. At the current rate of relief, it would take over 150 years to clear the conviction backlog. 90% of people eligible for record expungement are blocked from jobs, housing, school, and other opportunities. These obstacles are rooted in systemic racism and a broken criminal legal system.
Warehouse Workers for Justice, (WWJ), in partnership with Raise the Floor Alliance, and the Access to Justice (A2J) program, works to provide record relief and ensure that workers can move forward with dignity and opportunity.
This lawsuit is about holding Walmart and their warehouse practices accountable and sending a clear message that no one should lose their job or their future because of a record, especially not at the hands of one of the wealthiest corporations on earth. Complete article

Man accused of stabbing deaf La. Walmart worker 40 times, held without bond 06/27/2025
Edwin “Buggy” Johnson Jr. didn’t just walk into a room — he made an entrance.
A 27-year-old overnight stocker at the Walmart Supercenter on Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans, Johnson was known for busting out impromptu dance moves during break room meetings, pushing open the door with flair and launching into full-body choreography.
"It was very dramatic, but dramatic in the best way — just dancing hard," said Bunni Maddox, a co-worker and friend. "He so freely broke out into dancing because he loved the vibe and was being himself.
"Star quality — that's the best way I can explain anything like that."
Profoundly deaf, Johnson communicated via sign language, body language, facial expressions and the Notes app on his phone. State prosecutors say an iPad he used to communicate was stolen earlier this month and used to lure him to a fatal ambush that has left his community heartbroken.
A prosecutor said Thursday in court that Nicholas Ortega, 33, stole the iPad and later drove Johnson on June 18 to a swampy tract in the Lake Catherine area. There, he allegedly pulled Johnson from the passenger seat of a Nissan Rogue and stabbed him 40 times.
"The defendant's statement indicated this was a planned attack, not a spur-of-the-moment incident," Assistant District Attorney Abigail McDonald told Magistrate Commissioner Jay Daniels at Ortega's Thursday afternoon bond-setting. "It was planned by him." Complete article

Walmart cuts out middlemen with first-ever beef facility as prices soar 06/30/2025
New Kansas facility will process and distribute Angus beef directly to 600 Midwest stores.
Walmart opened its first owned and operated case-ready beef facility in Kansas, eliminating middlemen in its supply chain to help control costs and ensure adequate supply as beef prices remain elevated.
The newly opened, 300,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in Olathe will package and distribute Angus cuts sourced directly from Sustainable Beef LLC to 600 stores across the Midwest region, which Walmart says will increase transparency and capacity in the beef supply chain to help the retailer meet customer demand. This immediately reduces the retailer's need to lean on an outside party to cut and package beef, which can lead to higher costs that can get passed onto consumers.
"This is the first case-ready facility fully owned and operated by Walmart, and that milestone ensures we’re able to bring more consistency, more transparency and more value to our customers," Walmart U.S. Executive Vice President John Laney said in a statement. Complete article
