Walmart Crime Report July 2025

Walmart had at least ten more shootings in July 2025, including one fatal one, which is fewer shooting deaths than usual, and at least seven more injured, including two suspects shot by police and two that accidentally shot themselves, one in the rear end. There's also a movie coming out about a 2010 incident where two police officers were shot and killed at a traffic stop; other police later caught up with the suspects at a Walmart, with at least two more police being injured, before the police killed both suspects in the Walmart parking lot. There were also two more reports about Walmart being involved in two other murder investigations, not on their property, but one suspect was spotted at a Walmart while fleeing to Mexico in 2022, and another murder suspect was arrested at Walmart after being accused of skip-scanning.

In addition to the person killed in a shooting last month there were three new reports of people being stabbed to death, one which was a suicide, and two were actually stabbed last month but the reports came out later, two people killed in automobile accidents, three dead bodies found on their property, one newborn baby found in the trash in their bathroom, one person killed nearby and the suspect arrested at Walmart, and one construction worker electrocuted to death. There were also nine children that drowned to death in recent years in pools sold by Walmart that were recalled for safety purposes. This adds up to a total of at least twelve deaths related to Walmart in the past month or so, and if you count the drownings, which took place between 2007 and 2022, the total is twenty one, the most ever except for a couple mass casualty events, but of course this will only be because of the reporting of old deaths; the twelve recent ones is still more than usual, but not a record.

Walmart workers also mourned one of their employees that died in floods, but not at work; and there was a follow up on a previous death by an off-duty officer out of uniform who only got probation for murder. In this case there was a shooting, but the suspect had run away; Kenneth Vinyard, the victim killed by the off-duty police officer, John J. Hawk, was trying to help the injured victim that was shot, and he was cooperating with uniformed police or paramedics that had arrived by this time, but when the off-duty police officer, who was out of uniform, told him to back off he didn't do so quick enough and Hawk used a violent take-down which caused Vinyard's death. Numerous reports indicate that if he had let the uniformed police handle the situation or given more warning that he was a police officer before the take down it never would have happened, and there was never a threat from Vinyard or justification for the violent take-down, which killed him.

There is absolutely no way that anyone who wasn't a police officer, or another well connected person, would ever get such a light sentence for this murder.

There were at least four more gun related crimes at Walmart, probably much more, but media outlets and search engines aren't reporting them as consistently as they used to, often with obvious ads disguised as news articles flooding search engines. Media outlets and search engines are increasingly more concerned about profit than informing the public, raising major credibility problems with powerful institutions. These gun crimes include armed robberies and domestic violence incidents.

How much money do you think taxpayers spend to prosecute and punish petty theft at Walmart? In some cases it's way too much possibly more than a hundred times the cost of the theft. There was a jury trial which lasted three days last month for a theft of only $23.74, they reported that it was going to the jury, but there was no follow up about the verdict, which must have happened by now, easily available on the internet. This isn't unprecedented, and the cost to taxpayers is almost certainly well over a hundred times the amount stolen, if not a thousand times, although exact figures for court expenses are not always easily available.

There was another case that began about seven years ago where a legally blind man was charged with skip scanning for a petty amount at a North Conway NH Walmart, and it dragged out in court for four years, where he was convicted, appealed then Blind man's theft case ends in dropped charges 06/03/2022 part of the settlement was that he make some minor restitution and that the suspect agreed not to talk to the press. After spending what must have been thousands of taxpayer dollars to prosecute such a petty case they may have been more concerned with not making themselves look like fools when the press keeps talking about the story than they are with justice. How can they call this system, where taxpayers are subsidizing Walmart's theft problem when they could easily solve a lot of it by hiring cashiers, a justice system? There was also another case about ten years or so ago, probably in Florida, where a poor unemployed person was found guilty of theft from Walmart and forced to pay Walmart restitution, and when his parole officer threatened to throw him in jail if he didn't pay money he didn't have he committed another theft and was caught at that. There are also dozens if not hundreds of cases that were alleged accidents, some that were proven to be legitimate defense, most were disputed; but investigating them to sort them out is ridiculously expensive, and often paid for by taxpayers, not Walmart.

More recently there was a judge from Michigan that repeatedly ranted against Walmart and often says the obvious including this video The Courtroom Files: Judge Jeffrey Middleton RAILS AGAINST WALMART'S SELF CHECKOUTS In $32 Skip Scanning Case 01/08/2025 where he says
Retail fraud at the Walmart store in Three Rivers and they call it skip scanning. I’m not a big fan of this charge, I rant against it about once a week (on another occasion he says three times a week, the Meme is quotes from two different videos) anyway the way it’s charged under the city ordinance it’s a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $500 it's alleged that you were in the checkout lane and you failed to pay for $32.40 worth of merchandise good morning Mr Moore um if I can find the City attorney I will see if they would turn this into a civil infraction I don't like being Walmart's enforcer for $32.40 uh Walmart has made a business decision to use these self scanners rather than have checkout staff and it encourages this sort of thing this crime didn't exist a few years ago and now we get a ton of them so for $32.40 the police department has to go out there respond to this complaint at the cost of the taxpayers the prepare a report send it to the prosecutor ask the prosecutor to do a complaint and have you come to court and take up my time um if there was a checkout person there none of this would have happened but they made a decision that I guess it's more profitable to have some theft particularly if all this part of it isn't on their dime but on the taxpayers dime.

FWIW I asked Google AI "Why are some of Judge Jeffrey Middleton minor court cases on video available on the internet?" it replied by saying
Judge Jeffrey Middleton's minor court cases are available on video because remote hearings became common practice during the COVID-19 pandemic and the courts, including St. Joseph County where Judge Middleton serves, decided to continue livestreaming proceedings after the pandemic to increase access and transparency. These online livestreams, often on platforms like YouTube, allow for more convenient public access to court proceedings.

Judge Middleton is not a reality TV Judge, like Judge Judy, who turns the justice system into a bad joke used for entertainment, nor is he necesarily entirely opposed to Walmart cases as demonstrated in some of the following videos I also found, which do include additional rants against skip-scanning charges as well as harsh comments to defendants stealing from Walmart, and some extreme abuses as a result of self-checkouts threatening the rights of people simply making honest mistakes and being charged with a crime, showing some people are no longer "innocent until proven guilty at Walmart":

The Courtroom Files: Judge Middleton CONTINUES HIS DISDAIN OF WALMART SKIP SCAN CASES WITH THIS $54 TWO YEAR OLD CHARGE 02/18/2025 "I say this about three times a week Walmart and Meyer to a lesser extent anybody that has self scanning invites this kind of thing uh it invites the customers to try to cheat the store and they made a business decision that it's cheaper to not have staff than to allow people to attempt to steal particularly when the Three Rivers Police department and me get to be their Enforcer" This video also shows that they often keep warrants out for years for crimes as petty as $54, possibly less.

Judge Middleton TV: Judge Middleton Issues Arrest Warrant Over $12 Debt in Small Claims Court 06/24/2025 Donald Feister v. Jordan Kelly: The defendant skips court after receiving a subpoena and owes only $12—but ends up with a $1,200 cash-only arrest warrant. // The video doesn't support this claim, but there are other extreme cases where excessive fines drive up court costs, and it often costs much more money trying to collect these fines than they actually collect.

I asked Google AI "Do courts and police spend more money trying to collect petty fines than they actually collect?" It replied
Yes, for some jurisdictions, the cost of collecting petty fines and fees can exceed the revenue generated, with one study showing a New Mexico county spending at least $1.17 to collect every dollar. Fines and fees have become an inefficient and often unreliable source of government revenue, with some research indicating the collection process costs more than 100 times the resources needed to collect taxes. These high costs divert resources from core public safety responsibilities and can disproportionately burden low-income individuals.

Another source that cites the same study The Debt Trap: How Court Debt Widens the Racial Wealth Gap 02/15/2022 also provides some related research in the article or the following excerpts:
Debt related to justice-system involvement falls most heavily on overpoliced communities, extracting wealth and preventing the building of more. .....

Nonpayment of fines and fees has serious consequences—damaged credit, loss of a driver’s license and voting rights, incarceration, and other punishments. And because of racially biased overpolicing, Black Americans are more likely to be processed in the criminal justice system and hit with these crippling fees and fines. .....

Ultimately, court debt ends up costing states more than it benefits them. For example, one county in New Mexico spends $1.17 to collect every $1 of revenue it raises from fees and fines, according to The Brennan Center for Justice. It can also cost 115 percent of the amount that would be collected to jail someone who cannot pay their court debt. ....

‘Some people who were fined for traffic offenses, which are not criminal acts, committed felonies to pay off their tickets.’

The study from New Mexico is bad, showing it costs more to collect fees than they actually collect, but it's virtually guaranteed to underestimate the problem by a large margin. This study only counts the actual collection expenses, not other expenses to society for keeping poor people already in legal trouble destitute. Many studies show that poverty, income inequality, lack of educational or economic opportunities and other social problems increase crime and the cost to our government. These efforts to collect fees and fines from the poorest people in the country, who are most likely to be in legal trouble also cost much more than the New Mexico study takes into consideration and like the case I mentioned above, and this article says, those pressured by the courts, often out of desperation, may resort to additional crimes harming the public and costing even more for police, courts and prisons. This isn't, of course, completely Walmart's fault, but Walmart's practices are a major contributing factor to our high crime problems compared to many European countries with only a fraction of our social problems, including crime and murder.

Another problem contributing to this is Walmart and the polices new policies in some cases clamping down on theft of shopping carts, which is obviously done by the poorest people, and often those not healthy enough to carry items a fair distance. Some states allow fines up to $2,500, which is way too much, fortunately most aren't that bad. One article makes the absurd claim that it costs the industry around $175 million per year for about 2,000 carts that disappear, if you do the math it means they're claiming each cart is worth $87,500 which is utterly absurd, and clearly show this article, and the establishment promoting this garbage have no credibility, and adds to evidence of the establishment smearing the poor when it's the rich rigging the economy. There are also a growing number of media opinion pieces trying to shame petty thefts, while ignoring how Walmart is cutting so many corners and making their own crime problems worse; rich people routinely try to blame the poor for the rigging of the economy.

Stories of ICE abuses are going viral around the country, including many incidents at Walmart, they used a taser on one man, an ICE agent accused of abusing his power in June was arrested for assaulting a police officer while off-duty, adding to evidence of unreliable or Violent ICE agents, and there have been numerous protests about ICE activities, including some at Walmart. There are also a lot of Walmart stores where Walmart workers are vanishing, either because they were arrested for petty reasons by ICE and possibly deported, or they're afraid to come to work because they fear persecution. The vast majority of these reports appear to be workers trying to make a living, not violent criminals, as the Trump administration falsely told us. And there are other racist problems that were around before the ICE raids which may have gotten worse since then, like a woman who false accused a black teen of something he didn't do because she said "he looks guilty."

There was also a reality TV show that was accused of attacking a woman with a rock-filled sock at the self-checkout. I don't think a credible motive was reported, but I can't help but wonder if people are doing idiotic things for fame, and realty TV is providing incentive? Could she have thought this would get her back onto reality TV? It's bad enough when people do idiotic things for social media, but reality TV provides much more attention and possibly money. There was even a couple cases where they literally incited murder, like a person that went on Jenny Jones decades ago thinking he was going to meet someone who had a crush on him, but it turned out to be a gay man and he was so humiliated that he killed him. There was a lawsuit but they found no liability for Jenny Jones or others involved in producing that pathetic show. And, as I've reported in other articles, traditional media almost never covers research that teaches how to reduce violence or other social problems.

There was also a follow up on a Chattanooga evangelist who had charges dismissed, not because the prosecutors didn't think they had a case, but because they were worried about intimidation and harassment of the victim, for some reason, whether it was from his religious followers or something else. And there were many other assaults, chases through aisles,, false accusations of suspects, alleged biting of a police officer, domestic violence incidents, credit card skimmers which are now found every month, crimes by local politicians, and a bizarre incident where a suspect was restrained and rolled out to a patrol car on a dolly.

In addition to the two fatal accidents there were close to, if not more than a dozen other major accidents, including one hitting a mother and child, another crash into a fire works stand, attempted vesicular homicide, a Walmart thief going on a chase before crashing into a home, stolen vehicles, and other automobile crashes or crimes, including a vehicle fire.

In addition to the vehicle fire there were at least five other fires, at least two of those were arson, and one a wildfire, which is probably not arson. In addition to the three people killed in stabbings, one a suicide, there were at least five more knife attacks, with one person that pulled a knife on a police officer who was badly beaten, even though he didn't succeed in stabbing anyone, three knife attacks stabbing one person each with at least one of those victims badly injured, and one mass stabbing, when the suspect with severe emotional problems the police were aware of, stabbed twelve people, seriously injuring some of them before two armed marines, with a gun and shopping cart stopped him.

Walmart had close to if not more than a dozen more recalls last month which have been increasing steadily in the past year or so making it hard to keep track of them. These recalls include, the pools I previously said led to nine children drowning, vitamins, water bottles after exploding caps blinded two people permanently, bread that may cause a ‘life-threatening’ problem, two separate recalls of bikes, one which may cause a risk of death or injury, deodorants, coffee pods, chicken sausages with plastic pieces in it, shoe accessories that may catch fire, toy bracelets for kids where batteries can be removed and swallowed by small children causing serious injury or death, play kitchens that have a strangulation hazard, additional household products that may cause fires, including mini-fridges that only hold about a six-pack of sodas or other drinks.

Why the hell would anyone make or buy a refrigerator that only holds a six-pack? These must be extremely inefficient to make and operate, and, presumably in order to get any sales they have to sell them cheap, cut corners to profit with these low prices which may have led to this inevitable fire hazard. Do oligarchs have any reasonable discretion or concern about the hazards of these products including fires and environmental damage? Apparently not!

In addition to the recalls there was trash found in a LEGO box they sold, and a large shipment of clothing products which were shipped with fertilizer and had to be thrown away because of a foul odor they couldn't get rid of.

Once again Walmart has been caught making false "Made in the USA" claims, this time by the FTC, in the past they've been caught so many times that it would be foolish to believe any of these advertising claims or any other claims. They were also asked about pop-up requests asking about disclosure of sexual health products in Virginia that may involve tracking sales of sexual products or pregnancies or abortions.

Have you ever wondered if expensive "Family Heirlooms" are the real thing or cheap costume jewelry from Walmart? One woman found out it was from Walmart, but is the high price of a real diamond worth it? The value is based mostly on hype and ads, as a couple books on the subject show, and they do nothing to increase the quality of life except satisfy rich peoples vanity or egos, and make middle class or poor people poorer and unable to buy things worthwhile.

How often do you find hundreds of bees in a Walmart shopping cart?

Have you ever been bombarded with Walmart packages of BBQ Sauce or any other Walmart product? Apparently Walmart put the wrong address on their return policy and one woman was.

How often do you get bit by venomous snakes at Walmart? One Georgia Walmart customer was hospitalized for this.

Strange things happen at Walmart!

In 2006 Wake Up Walmart did a study, "Is Walmart Safe?" based on incidents in 2004, (PDF) about crime at Walmart which showed that it increased when Walmarts opened up and that crime was higher at Walmart than at other retailers. Since then Walmart Shootings began compiling a list of gun related incidents at Walmart and demonstrated that they have a large number of them, including on average more than one shooting per week somewhere in the country; now after counting them for several years that average is over two per week. In January of 2014 another study, "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" provided additional statistical research indicating that Walmart might be contributing to higher crime rates or at least a slowing of the decline in crime. The study found that. “on average, communities with Walmarts had 17 more property crimes and two more violent crimes per 10,000 people than those communities without Walmarts.” I reviewed this more in Walmart’s crime problem, Rolling Back Safety more than prices? where I explained that although this study is helpful they could have done better with additional data that is available and I reviewed some of that. I also added my own review about why I think that Walmart policies have been contributing to higher crime in a previous blog, Walmart high crime rate continues un-investigaterd and have provided additional information under the author tag Walmart Crime Watch.

Over the past ten to fifteen years Walmart has been increasing the use of self-checkout, and this has corresponded with a steady increase in shoplifting as well as false accusations, yet they refuse to even discuss returning to the use of cashiers. What most people seem to have forgotten was that when they first did this it was on a small scale as an experiment, presumably to see if it worked before expanding it, which would actually make sense, if they slowed it down or reversed it once they saw how many problems it caused. But that's not what they did. Instead the more problems they had the more they increased use of self-checkout, often claiming that instead of hiring more cashiers again, which worked previously, they resorted to more technology and hiring more security to catch people skip scanning or at other forms of theft. This has led to massive amounts of false accusations, in addition to the real thefts, and when the thefts are real, and they get caught, they often resort to violence, so it endangers both Walmart workers and customers.

Now they're acting as if the rise of shoplifting is happening for some inexplicable reason and even asking police to help them solve this problem, as if it wasn't a problem created by their own policies, and most of the media or politicians aren't pointing out the obvious. This is resulting in a massive increase in arrests, court expenses, and prison expenses, which Walmart isn't paying for, effectively meaning we are subsidizing Walmart's high crime problems with tax money. There's no official explanation for why they're behaving so foolishly; but, since this is a for profit corporation it's not hard to speculate about the most likely reason for it, that they're increasing profits for those making the decisions. But, a large portion of the money saved by not hiring cashiers is spent on technology or security to catch thieves; and, if they had to pay the increase in police, courts and prison costs that would reduce or eliminate their savings, and they would almost certainly reverse their policies, because they wouldn't be increasing profits with self-checkout.

This doesn't even include the risk to the health of both their customers and workers when the worst thieves turn violent, in some cases possibly even shooting and killing people. Every year since 2016 has seen more than a hundred shootings at Walmart, and more often than not, this is increasing, while they ignore the causes of their crime problems. These self-checkouts are also making it easier for thieves to put "skimmers" that collect credit or debit card information from customers that enable them to use their cards illegally, but, once again, the customers are stuck with the tab, not Walmart, so they're doing little or nothing to stop this, even though it's a direct result of their bad policies. And furthermore, courts have ruled that Walmart has a right to detain customers even when they have no reason to believe they're shoplifting, if they simply refuse to show receipts, as a matter of principle. At times some lawyers have claimed they need probable cause to ask to see receipts, which, if a customer goes directly from the register, sometimes even when there's a cashier, to the door they can't possibly have. So this means Walmart is under no obligation to assume their paying customers are innocent until proven guilty, which should raise major constitutional questions!

Stacy Mitchell has also compiled a list of other studies about Walmart and how they impact society, Key Studies on Big-Box Retail & Independent Business. To the best of my knowledge Walmart has done as little as they seem to get away with, often relying on rhetoric that isn't backed up with action, when it comes to addressing any of their critics concerns, including crime. One of the responses they’ve come up with is what they call "Restorative Justice" which gives first time shoplifters a chance to avoid being arrested or any criminal record if they take an on line course which costs $400 up front or $500 in payments, plus perhaps, reparations. This has been part of the privatization process and often denies suspects of the due process or access to a lawyer, perhaps even intimidating and extorting from some people that might not even be guilty. Walmart seems to be trying to find a way to turn crime into a profit making situation instead of looking for the most effective ways to reduce it. Making Change at Walmart is asking If you or someone you know has gone through @Walmart's "Restorative Justice" program for first-time suspected shoplifters, send us a DM. 03/30/2017 to ensure that it isn’t doing more harm than good. I did my own review of this program as well at Walmart’s “Restorative Justice” Endangers Public Without Reducing Crime. The following are a list of incidents that occurred in July 2025. According to the "Is Walmart Safe?" the average store in their sampling had 250 incidents per year indicating that these are only a fraction of the crime reports at Walmart, and presumably, the ones most likely to make the news on the internet nationwide. This isn't statistically representative, as the 2006 or the "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" study or some of the studies cited by Stacy Mitchell; but it does provide some additional information that may help recognize how many problems there are at Walmart.

Suspect rushed to the hospital after self-inflicted shooting ends standoff in Ammon Idaho half block from Walmart 07/01/2025

AMMON, Idaho (KIFI) — Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies and Idaho Falls Ambulance responded to a report of a suicidal man in a vehicle near the intersection of Chasewood and Curlew Drive in Ammon this afternoon. Dispatch received the call at 2:34 pm reporting a man was in the parking lot of The Gables Assisted Living Center armed with a gun and threatening suicide. As Deputies arrived, they observed the man in a vehicle holding a gun to his head.

As Sheriff’s Deputies and SWAT Team resources responded to the scene, Deputies contacted nearby businesses and residents to move them away from the area. During attempts to negotiate with the man, Deputies observed him shoot himself while still sitting in the vehicle. After safely approaching the vehicle and separating him from the firearm, Deputies and Fire Personnel were able to load him into an ambulance, and he was transported to the hospital.

The man’s condition is unknown at this time, and the area has been reopened for vehicle traffic. Residents and people in the area were unharmed and have returned to their normal day.

While witnesses on the scene had claimed to reporters that they heard shots fired before law enforcement arrived, SGT. Bryan Lovell of the Bonneville County Sheriff's office says their agency "did not receive any reports of shots fired at the location of this incident prior to our arrival, or investigate any other fired shots other than the single shot observed from the subject inside the vehicle in the parking lot...There was no other evidence or reports of shots fired anywhere tied to this incident." It’s official – taking your cart from Walmart or Target can cost you up to $2,500 in fines and up to a year in jail 07/01/2025

You might get in trouble if you take carts from supermarkets! Everybody is familiar with Walmart and Target because they are so popular in the U.S., but what they are doing now is implementing strict measures against the theft or disappearance of carts at supermarkets. This might seem silly, but this situation is causing the loss of millions of dollars.

So, if you want to know what are the consequences when you take a cart from a supermarket like Walmart or Target, you should keep reading. Let’s get started!

Economic impact of stolen carts

According to Daily Mail, around 2,000 carts disappear every year at retail stores in the United States. This might seem like nothing because the country is so big and there are so many of these stores all over it, but the reality is that these thefts cost the industry around $175 million per year. (Do the math, $87,500 per cart???)

We sometimes take for granted these carts have a process and companies have to pay for the restocking, but there are also logistics and transport expenses.

You could be fined!

As this situation is costing companies money, what Walmart and Target have decided to do is fine everybody who takes their carts with no authorization. This is no joke because these fines won’t be directly imposed by stores, but by local legislation – you will have to face the police or the court if necessary.

Wondering about how much you will have to pay if you get caught? The amount is up to $2,500 for taking their carts. So, I would think twice before doing it. ... Complete article

Report: Walmart Seeks Major Tax Reduction for Auburn NY Store 07/03/2025

Walmart is challenging the property assessment of its Auburn store, seeking to lower its valuation by more than $6 million.

The current assessed value of the store at 297 Grant Avenue is $13.5 million, reduced from $14.5 million after negotiations during the city’s 2022 revaluation. However, Walmart is now asking the state Supreme Court to slash that figure by 44%, down to $7.5 million.

In its legal filing, the retail giant argues the assessment is excessive, unlawful, and unequal compared to other properties in the city. Complete article

Walmart cuts out middlemen with first-ever beef facility as prices soar 06/30/2025

New Kansas facility will process and distribute Angus beef directly to 600 Midwest stores.

Walmart opened its first owned and operated case-ready beef facility in Kansas, eliminating middlemen in its supply chain to help control costs and ensure adequate supply as beef prices remain elevated.

The newly opened, 300,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in Olathe will package and distribute Angus cuts sourced directly from Sustainable Beef LLC to 600 stores across the Midwest region, which Walmart says will increase transparency and capacity in the beef supply chain to help the retailer meet customer demand. This immediately reduces the retailer's need to lean on an outside party to cut and package beef, which can lead to higher costs that can get passed onto consumers.

"This is the first case-ready facility fully owned and operated by Walmart, and that milestone ensures we’re able to bring more consistency, more transparency and more value to our customers," Walmart U.S. Executive Vice President John Laney said in a statement. Complete article

Argument leads to shooting in Pa. Walmart parking lot, police say 07/03/2025

Two people were shot after an argument over parking at a Walmart in Northeast Philadelphia on Thursday, police said.

An argument over how two cars were parked in a parking lot at a Walmart in Northeast Philadelphia led to a shooting, according to police.

This all unfolded around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 3 at the Walmart store on the 9700 block of Roosevelt Boulevard, according to Philadelphia Police Department Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The shooting happened after an argument over how two vehicles were seemingly parked too close together in the store's lot, Small said.

In total eight gunshots were fired by a man in his 30s, according to Small. Two people, a 50-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, were hit. Complete article

BENTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — New court records show Walmart helped investigate a Rogers family accused of aiding their son’s escape to Mexico after a 2022 shooting.

Seventeen-year-old Alexus Nguyen was found shot in the head inside a car in Rogers on April 13, 2022. Days later, police identified Alejandro Zenon-Reyes, then 14, as a suspect in her death.

Despite repeated attempts to locate him, Zenon-Reyes’ parents denied knowing his whereabouts. Investigators later arrested his brother, Giovanny Zenon; his father, Daniel Alejandro Zenon-Chavez and his mother, Rosa Lisette Reyes-Zendejas, on charges of aiding his escape.

On April 18, the day a warrant was issued for Zenon-Reyes’ arrest, his family was spotted on Walmart surveillance footage at a store in Dallas, Texas. Court records show Walmart’s Global Investigations division provided still images to police showing the family exiting a black Suburban with Arkansas plates. Complete article

Police: Alleged shoplifter dies by suicide after La. Walmart theft in Uptown 07/03/2025

Police say Jhalon Cherry, 32, cut his own throat after officers approached him for allegedly stealing from Walmart.

NEW ORLEANS — It was a scene of crime scene tape and police cars on June 19th near the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Rousseau Street in Uptown New Orleans. That’s about a block away from the Walmart store where police say a man was seen on video shoplifting.

“You can see from that that he has collected some items in a shopping cart and he’s gone out that back emergency exit,” said Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick as she released new details Thursday.

Kirkpatrick says the man, identified as Jhalon Cherry, 32, got about a block away. That’s where Kirkpatrick says officers who were working on an off-duty assignment found him.

“They’re just approaching him as a shoplifting situation and what would typically be kind of a low-level situation,” said Kirkpatrick.

That quickly changed when Kirkpatrick says Cherry, who had recently gotten to New Orleans from Texas, pulled out a knife.

“Mr. Cherry ends up cutting his throat on both sides of his neck,” said Kirkpatrick. Complete article

Walmart Workers Vanish Overnight and Employees Sound the Alarm 07/01/2025

Walmart employees are sounding the alarm as sudden staffing cuts sweep through stores nationwide, reportedly driven by changes to immigration work authorizations and legal uncertainty.

Multiple staffers have taken to social media to share that coworkers have disappeared from schedules overnight—sometimes in double-digit numbers, the Daily Mail reported.

One Reddit user claimed their location lost 10 employees with work visas. Another reported 40 departures at a 400-person store, forcing older workers and managers to stretch themselves thin just to keep shelves stocked.

“Most of our older floor associates are constantly asking for help,” one employee wrote. “It’s not really ideal.”

The staffing drop comes as Walmart, the largest private employer in the U.S., moves to comply with a Supreme Court ruling that abruptly ended a temporary work program. The program had shielded over half a million migrants from deportation and granted legal work authorization until the court reversed course in late May. Complete article

NY Landlord Takes On Walmart in $150M Fraud Suit 07/04/2025

A New York City landlord has filed a lawsuit against Walmart Inc. and the bankruptcy successor to Bonobos Inc., alleging a massive fraudulent scheme related to a Fifth Avenue retail lease. The complaint, filed by EKFH LLC in the Delaware Court of Chancery, seeks hundreds of millions in compensatory and punitive damages under both Delaware and New York law.

The lawsuit claims that Walmart and WHP Global orchestrated a plan to strip valuable assets from the menswear company Bonobos — now known as BNWHP LLC — leaving creditors with minimal recourse. The legal action centers on the alleged unauthorized transfer of Bonobos’ Fifth Avenue lease to Express Inc., which later filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

According to the complaint, Walmart purchased Bonobos in 2017 for over $300 million. In 2023, WHP Global acquired the business for just $75 million, while Bonobos’ leases were transferred to Express without EKFH’s consent. EKFH maintains it never approved the lease assignment and that neither Walmart nor Bonobos-BNWHP filed for Chapter 11 to legally discharge their obligations. Complete article

An octogenarian Florida woman was recently arrested for a parking lot fracas at a Walmart that involved her slapping another driver in the face, according to Sunshine State law enforcement.

Linda Montan Frenier, 80, stands accused of one count each of robbery via sudden snatching, a felony, and battery, a misdemeanor, according to Orange County court records reviewed by Law &Crime.

The underlying incident occurred on June 30, at the Walmart on South Orange Blossom Trail in Apopka, a medium-sized town located in the broader Orlando metro area.

On the afternoon in question, an officer arrived at the parking lot in response to a call about a battery, according to an arrest affidavit.

"I met with the victim who was standing by her vehicle," the officer wrote in the law enforcement narrative. "The victim stated that she was driving northbound through the Walmart parking lot. The victim had stopped at the stop sign directly behind Linda Frenier's vehicle to check her phone's GPS for directions. While at the stop sign, Frenier attempted to reverse out of her parking spot and struck the passenger-side door of the victim's vehicle."

But the defendant did not apologize for the mishap, the alleged victim said. Instead, she appeared to blame the other driver. .....

"Frenier said, 'I'm not giving you s–––, b––––,'" the officer's narrative continues. "The victim tried to calm down Frenier and proceeded to walk away from her. Frenier approached the victim and got in her face and made a gesture as if she was going to hit the victim in the face. COLUMN: Dear Criminals — Stop Being Stupid. Walmart Knows You’re Stealing. 07/07/2025

COLUMN: Dear Corporate Propagandists — Stop Smearing the Poor Who Steal From the Rich While Ignoring the Much Bigger Problem of Rich Stealing from the Poor!

It doesn’t take much for retail theft to become a felony. So, congrats! You stole your way to prison, one $8 candle at a time.

If you think you’re outsmarting Walmart by stealing twenty bucks’ worth of merchandise at a time, you’re not clever, you’re just on camera. Every. Single. Time. And once your five-finger discount habit adds up to $1,000, or it’s your third rodeo, Pennsylvania law says, ‘Congratulations! You’re now a felon.’

That’s right. You didn’t beat the system. You played yourself.

Now, of course, you would never do something so idiotic. The fine readers of this publication are law-abiding citizens who always pay for their air fryers and protein bars. But maybe you have a cousin, or a friend, or a friend’s cousin who thinks they’re running a one-person crime ring. Do them a favor. Send them this story. It’s cheaper than bail.

According to Pennsylvania law, specifically Title 18 § 3929, retail theft becomes a felony of the third degree in two cases: when the value of stolen goods surpasses $1,000, or when a person commits their third theft, regardless of the dollar amount. That means a person swiping a few items at a time might be unaware they’re walking straight into felony territory. Complete article

FTC Cracks Down on False ‘Made in the USA Claims,’ Sends Warning Letters to Walmart, Amazon 07/09/2025

The Federal Trade Commission has sent warning letters to four companies reminding them to comply with the FTC’s “Made in the USA” requirements, as well as to Amazon and Walmart regarding third-party sellers who appear to be making deceptive “Made in the USA” claims on their online marketplaces.

Warning letters were sent to flagpole retailer Americana Liberty, footwear maker Oak Street Manufacturing, football equipment company Pro Sports Group and personal care products manufacturer USA Big Mountain Paper, all of which claim their goods are of U.S. origin. However, FTC investigations have found indications that the products are imported, either wholly or in part, which violates the Made in the USA Labeling Rule (MUSA Labeling Rule).

Additionally, Amazon and Walmart have received warnings that sellers on their marketplaces have been reported to be falsely advertising products as being made in the U.S., violating various truth-in-advertising laws. The letters ask both companies to monitor, identify and take corrective action against third-party sellers who make false or misleading “Made in USA” claims on their marketplaces.

FTC: ‘Made in the USA’ is More than a Slogan

“‘Made in the USA’ is not just a slogan — it’s a sign that a product connects us to the workers and businesses that make America great,” said FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson in a statement. “Consumers want to have confidence that when they buy something labeled ‘Made in the USA’ they are actually supporting American workers and the American economy. Companies that falsely claim their products are ‘Made in the USA’ can expect to hear from the FTC.” Complete article

Border Patrol agent charged with assaulting Long Beach officer involved in violent Walmart arrest 07/11/2025

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The U.S. Border Patrol agent charged with drunkenly assaulting a Long Beach Police officer outside a bar this week is also one of the agents involved in the violent, now-viral arrest of a U.S. citizen in a Pico Rivera Walmart, the man's lawyers claim.

What we know: Isaiah Hodgson is facing charges of assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and illegal firearm possession, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced on Friday.

He was arrested on July 7, outside the Shoreline Village in Long Beach. That night, Hodson allegedly went into the woman's bathroom, and walked up to a woman, who saw he had a gun, the LBPD said. The woman told restaurant staff about the gun, and they called the police. Hodson then left the restaurant, LBPD said, where officers found him.

Officers saw the gun, and told Hodgson to leave, according to the department. When he didn't, officers tried to detain him. "As Hodson resisted arrest, he allegedly became agitated and physical with the officers," the LBPD said in a statement. One officer was injured.

The backstory:

On Friday, lawyers for a man who was violently detained by Border Patrol agents in Pico Rivera claimed that Hodgson was one of the agents involved in the now-viral arrest.

Federal agents arrested Adrian Andrew Martinez, a 20-year-old U.S. citizen, on June 18, at a Walmart in Pico Rivera. That morning, federal agents pulled into the parking lot, seemingly for an immigration enforcement operation. Martinez was seen on video approaching agents. Soon after, agents were seen throwing Martinez to the ground. Complete article

Movie based on May 2010 West Memphis Tenn. Police shootings, in theaters Friday 07/10/2025

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A movie based on the ambush killings of two West Memphis police officers along I-40 in 2010 is set to hit theaters nationwide Friday.

“Sovereign“, which stars Dennis Quaid, Nick Offerman and Jacob Tremblay follows a father and son who identify as sovereign citizens, a group of anti-government extremists, who find themselves in a standoff with a police chief that sets off a manhunt after gunning down two police officers during a traffic stop.

The crime thriller is based on the events surrounding the West Memphis Police shootings.

On May 20, 2010, Officer Bill Evans stopped a white van with Ohio plates along Interstate 40 and called for backup.

Sgt. Brandon Paudert showed up within minutes, and both were shot and killed when a 16-year-old boy jumped out of the passenger side of the vehicle with an assault weapon.

Brandon Paudert was the son of then-West Memphis Police Chief Bob Paudert.

The hunt for the teenage gunman and his father ended in the West Memphis Walmart parking lot.

Jerry, 45, and Joseph Kane, who were reportedly anti-government extremists, were shot and killed during a shootout with police. Complete article

Man arrested after allegedly pulling knife on Fla. Walmart employee and police officer 07/13/2025

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Duard Augustus Benson III, 58, was arrested yesterday after allegedly pulling a knife on a Walmart Loss Prevention Officer who tried to stop him from shoplifting and then pointing the knife at a police officer who was trying to arrest him.

At about 2 p.m. on July 12, a Gainesville Police Department officer was at the northwest Walmart, investigating a previous theft, when the Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) notified him about a separate incident involving someone in the store.

The officer reported that he watched the suspect conceal multiple packs of meat (valued at $233) in a bag and then walk toward the garden exit. The LPO told the officer he would try to stop the suspect, and the officer waited outside the store in his marked patrol vehicle.

The LPO reportedly identified himself to Benson and tried to take the merchandise back, but Benson allegedly pulled the bag back and simultaneously pulled out a pocket knife and pointed it at the LPO. The LPO, in fear for his life, backed away, and the officer, who reported that he saw Benson leave the store without paying for the merchandise, activated his lights and sirens and drove toward Benson, who allegedly fled on foot.

After a brief foot chase, the officer tried to tackle Benson, but Benson allegedly turned around and pointed the pocket knife at the officer in a fighting stance. The officer reported that Benson lunged at him with the knife, and he pushed Benson away and drew his firearm; Benson allegedly ran again, still holding the knife.

After another brief foot chase, the officer deployed his taser, and Benson fell to the ground at the Circle K on NW 34th Boulevard. Benson allegedly kept trying to get back up, and the officer reportedly kicked his knife away from him.

The officer reported that his taser was not functioning properly and that Benson “caught on” to that, got back on his feet, and assumed a fighting stance. The officer reportedly tackled him to the ground and detained him. Complete article

Some Walmart garment orders from Bangladesh on hold due to U.S. tariff threat 07/11/2025

LONDON/NEW YORK, July 11 (Reuters) - Suppliers to Walmart WMT.N have delayed or put on hold some orders from garment manufacturers in Bangladesh, according to three factory owners and correspondence from a supplier seen by Reuters, as U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat of a 35% tariff on the textile hub disrupts business.

Bangladesh is the third-largest exporter of apparel to the United States, and it relies on the garment sector for 80% of its export earnings and 10% of its GDP. The factory owners all said they expected orders to fall if the August 1 tariffs go into effect, as they are unable to absorb that 35% rate.

Iqbal Hossain, managing director of garment manufacturer Patriot Eco Apparel Ltd, told Reuters an order for nearly 1 million swim shorts for Walmart was put on hold on Thursday due to the tariff threat. Complete article

This Woman's "Family Heirloom" Engagement Ring Turned Out to be From Walmart 07/15/2025

Picking out an engagement ring can be a stressful (not to mention expensive) decision for many brides-to-be. For the indecisive among us, then, inheriting a family stone instead is the perfect way to skirt the process altogether. But what if the ring isn't actually an heirloom? One woman lived to tell the tale and later shared it on Reddit, explaining that the fake jewelry came from her future mother-in-law.

"I (29F) recently got engaged to my fiancé (30M)," she wrote. "His mom insisted on giving me a 'family heirloom' engagement ring, her great-grandmother’s. I was touched. It was a beautiful vintage-style ruby ring."

Everything was fine until the bride-to-be offered to have the ring cleaned and appraised before resizing. "She got weirdly cagey about it. Said 'just wear it as-is, resizing will ruin it,'" the woman wrote. "Well, curiosity won. I took it to a jeweler. It was a $29.99 fake from Walmart’s fashion section. Literally plated brass with glass."

"I laughed so hard I cried," she admitted.

The mother-in-law's son, meanwhile, was "furious," especially because his brother's ex-girlfriend was given a real family heirloom shortly before the pair broke up. When the original poster and her fiancé confronted the mother, however, she went into "full victim mode."

Her excuse for the fake ring? "I didn’t think she’d appreciate the real one!"

It was the "pettiest betrayal" the woman had ever experienced, she wrote. And while the couple is still going ahead with their engagement, the bride-to-be assured her readers that she would be purchasing "her own damn ring."

"And I’ll probably be wearing it with my middle finger," she concluded. Complete article

Court Watch: Jury to Decide Fate of Accused in $23.74 Ca. Walmart Theft Case 07/18/2025

WOODLAND, CA – On Wednesday in Yolo County Superior Court, Deputy District Attorney Candance Guthmiller and Deputy Public Defender Roberto Villa delivered closing arguments in a petty theft case involving $23.74 worth of merchandise.

Despite the low value of the alleged theft, the case proceeded to a jury trial that lasted three days.

The accused was charged with petty theft of retail merchandise and trespassing. On Feb. 8, 2024, she visited a Walmart, purchased several items, and was stopped upon leaving by a Loss Prevention Associate who accused her of stealing fishing lures, allegedly hidden in her bag.

Security camera footage showed the accused placing the lures in her bag, Villa said. However, the accused’s former husband, who was shopping with her, testified that he saw her put the lures back on a shelf in another aisle. ......

Villa also questioned the credibility of a prosecution witness who was a former Walmart employee fired for violating company policy. He said the employee had shown “a pattern of attacking potential shoplifters” and lacked certainty in her testimony, quoting her as saying, “I don’t know if she was trespassing.”

Guthmiller said the employee’s firing was unrelated to this case and argued the witness had been effective in investigating potential shoplifting incidents, even if her actions violated company policy. “Her being fired has no bearing on this case,” she said.

Villa emphasized that after the accused was stopped, she drove directly to the police station. “Why would she drive to the police department and talk to Officer Souza if she really did take these lures?” he asked. “A person who steals something doesn’t go straight to the police department to get arrested.” Complete article

Norman police and Walmart address abandoned shopping cart problem 07/18/2025

NORMAN, Okla. — Norman police are collaborating with Walmart to address the problem of abandoned shopping carts throughout the town, implementing stickers to educate the public on the illegality of cart removal and increasing retrieval efforts.

"Citizens call and complain. Hey, there’s a shopping cart here. Hey, this has been abandoned on my property. Can you do something about this?" said Lt. Lee McWhorter.

Abandoned shopping carts have been causing issues in Norman, including obstructing rainwater drainage on Magee Street about a year and a half ago.

"We had an issue about a year and a half ago on Magee where essentially rainwater could not drain anymore because one of the big catalysts was shopping carts along with some other furniture,” McWhorter said.

Walmart has agreed to increase the frequency of cart retrieval by employees and to advertise that carts should not be taken off the property. Complete article

Court says ICE can pursue $24M fine against Walmart 07/19/2025

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A federal appeals court has ruled that Walmart must face the government’s $24 million fine for allegedly not keeping proper records showing that its workers were allowed to work in the U.S.

From 2018 to 2021, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) checked 20 Walmart stores across the country, including one in Georgia. The agency said it found more than 11,000 times when Walmart allegedly did not keep proper records showing workers were allowed to work in the U.S.

ICE filed 20 complaints against Walmart, asking for $24.2 million in fines, according to court records.

Initially, Walmart won a case in a Georgia court that stopped these complaints from going forward. The judge said that ICE could not use an administrative law judge (ALJ) from the Department of Justice to decide these cases because it was unconstitutional. Complete article

‘Walmart Has to Pay:’ Woman Pulls Into Walmart Parking Lot to Pick Up 5 Bags of Miss Vickies Chips. Then a Sign Falls On Her Car 07/18/2025

"Should have done this when they broke my hatch on my van I had."

She just wanted her Miss Vickies Spicy Dill Pickle chips. Instead, she left with $2,000 in damage and a crash course in corporate liability.

A viral clip from TikToker Makayla (@makayla.n.b.) is letting many people know about her mishap at a local Walmart, where a temporary parking sign fell on her Kia Telluride, causing a costly dent that the retail giant said it’d pay to have fixed.

According to the video, the Walmart in her area was undergoing a remodel and had moved its grocery pickup signage into temporary stands—plastic bases weighted with water rather than fixed posts in the ground.

While parked and waiting for her order, which included five bags of Miss Vickies Spicy Dill Pickle Chips, a loud bang interrupted her conversation with the store associate. A temporary parking sign had tipped over and landed directly on her SUV. The employee witnessed the incident, assured her that Walmart would “take care of it,” and went inside to summon a manager. ......

Initially, the store seemed ready to handle the issue. The manager on duty, whom Makayla described as “super frantic,” helped initiate a formal incident report on an in-store iPad and assured her that Walmart would cover the repairs. But after a few days with no follow-up, things got complicated, and an initial call inquiring about the claim resulted in denials from a worker who she said didn’t seem to grasp what had happened. Chattanooga evangelist has charges dismissed in connection with alleged stalking incident at Signal Mountain Walmart 07/21/2025

A Chattanooga evangelist who was accused of stalking a Signal Mountain Walmart staff member had all charges against him dismissed Monday after the alleged victim chose to withdraw herself from the case.

Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Amanda Dunn granted the state's motion to dismiss charges of criminal trespassing, resisting arrest and aggravated stalking against Timothy Meyer, 50.

None of parties made any comment about the details of the case in court, but the state's reasoning behind the dismissal was detailed in a Wednesday motion.

"Ultimately, the dismissal of this case is based solely on the victim's legitimate desire to remain protected and keep her whereabouts unknown to Meyer," the motion said. "The state emphasizes that this dismissal is not based on the merits of the case — which the state describes as 'substantial and overwhelming' — but rather on the victim's need for safety and peace." Walmart worker disturbed by foul odor coming from product shipments: 'I've never had to deal with anything like this before' 07/21/2025

A foul-smelling shipment has left a bad taste in both a Walmart employee's and the internet's mouths.

What's happening?

A Reddit post in r/Walmart included a photo of eight cardboard boxes stacked on a pallet in the middle of the sales floor. But it wasn't the apparel inside that caught attention. The issue was the unmistakable stench clinging to everything.

"These 8 BP boxes of apparel were on a truck with fertilizer, and now it all stinks," said the original poster. .....

"Every. Single. Item. Smells like mulch," they wrote. The employee said their coach later confirmed the boxes had likely shared a truck with mulch or fertilizer.

Even worse, the worker and their teammates had to mark each item as contaminated, scanning UPCs one by one and submitting photos as proof. .....

Beyond the smell, the poor logistics and questionable hygiene practices caused a lot of the product to go to waste. Apparel exposed to industrial-grade mulch or fertilizer may not be safe to wear or sell, raising red flags for both customer health and product waste. Complete article

Walmart Employee Leaks Memo About Controversial Receipt Check at the Door 07/23/2025

A Walmart employee weighed in heavily on the company's controversial receipt policy, where they check your receipt at the door as you exit to make sure you haven't stolen anything.

In a Facebook post, a new Walmart employee who was doing their onboarding training, managed to grab a screenshot detailing the behind-the-scenes workings of this Walmart policy.

Adley Danielle, the worker who leaked the photo, writes:
I’m here to settle the debate about whether or not you need to show someone your receipt. It even specifies within the training that if you’re scanning unbagged items and a customer pushes past you and doesn’t want to show you, you have to let them pass and do nothing about it. Not even report it to management.

Not only that, but Danielle points out that if the line of customers exiting the store begins to get backed up, it’s the worker's responsibility to wave everyone through and stop scanning receipts for awhile. ......

According to Lawyers.com, retailers can ask to see your receipt, but you are not legally obligated to show it unless they have a reasonable suspicion of theft. Complete article

Walmart rewords Virginia pop-up tying condom searches to data consent 07/28/2025

Pushback on the Walmart website warning Virginia users to avoid searching for or buying reproductive or sexual health products if they don't consent to their information being collected has led the retailer to change the pop-up's wording.

Why it matters: The message raised questions from some shoppers and a state senator about how major retailers are interpreting and complying with the new reproductive health privacy protections in Virginia.

State of play: Those protections, which took effect July 1, are part of a law that bans the collection or sale of identifiable reproductive health data without explicit consent from the consumer.

That information can be related to buying birth control, condoms and pregnancy tests. But Virginians will see the Walmart pop-up simply by being on the website. Complete article

Walmart cracking down on a growing type of fraud 07/29/2025

Walmart is cracking down on a growing type of fraud and it’s putting AI to work to help with the job.

“These fraudulent sellers — who grow savvier, faking credentials and dodging enforcement — erode trust, not just in the companies who run these marketplaces, but in the thousands of large and small sellers who act with integrity and seek only to bring value and assortment to those who shop with us,” Walmart added. Frigidaire mini fridges, sold nationwide at retailers like Walmart, Amazon, and Walmart.com, have been recalled. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have been at least 26 reports of malfunctions, including units overheating, sparking, melting and catching fire.

The problem stems from faulty internal electrical components that can short circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing, according to the CPSC.

Consumers should check if they own one of the affected units, which were sold between January 2020 and December 2023 for $36 to $40. The mini fridges came in various colors including black, blue, green, white, yellow, red, pink, and silver. Complete article
