MSM Is Turning The Left Against Free Speech & Each Other!

The past few weeks I have repeatedly argued against censorship, often targeting Joe Rogan, who I initially said I disagreed with on many issues, but thought he should be refuted, not censored. Prior to this I made similar arguments about attempts to censor critics of election results, even though I never believed the election was stolen from Trump. However, even though the election wasn't stolen from Trump that doesn't mean it was close to being fair, since only candidates that are approved by mainstream media ever get medical coverage or name recognition they need to win.

Now, after I look a little closer at Joe Rogan's record and beliefs, it's becoming increasingly obvious that this is a massive smear campaign against him and a large portion of the justification for censoring him are distortions and outright lies, and many progressives are fighting against many other progressives without realizing what they're fighting about. Furthermore, the mainstream media is a leading factor in this smear campaign, yet they distort the truth and lie much more than Joe Rogan.

We should all keep in mind that what they're doing to Joe Rogan they can do to anyone of us, and although the oligarchs might gain a little power in the short term using this tactic, in the long term everyone, including the wealthy, will lose if we keep fighting each other!

Previously, when Alex Jones was censored, and Trump was banned from Twitter and other Social media, some of us warned that even though we don't support either, that this precedent would be used against the rest of us, and it has, increasing the blocking of hundreds of people on Social Media, often including those that cheered on demands for censorship of Jones, Trump, and now Joe Rogan, and many opponents of Rogan don't seem to know they agree with him on many issues, and that the media is distorting his record. Now progressive supporters of Joe Rogan are arguing with progressive supporters of Neil Young, and in some cases those opposing censorship, without supporting Rogan are also arguing with supporters of Young, even though we previously supported Young before he demanded censorship.

There's been an enormous amount of propaganda indicating that Rogan is a right wing fanatic, but growing evidence shows this isn't close to the truth; there's a now famous clip of him using the N-word in an obviously censored tape taking everything out of contest, but they fail to mention that some of it was him quoting other people in a harmless manner, and even if some of it is a legitimate concerns they fail to mention many other times where he spoke out against racism, including one clip cited by Jimmy Dore where a guest of his makes an obviously racist comment and Rogan refutes it saying that many white people are more responsible for violence than minorities, yet those smearing him omitted that portion of the conversation to make him look racist. And even if Ivermectin isn't as effective as the vaccine, it was prescribed for humans, not horse dewormer, studies show there was some benefit, and there's still a chance that it has fewer side effects, possibly making it safer. I'm not guaranteeing this is true; however, smears and censorship isn't the way to either confirm or refute it. They smeared Rogan for having positive results with Ivermectin and telling his viewers about it, and smeared Eric Clapton when he took the vaccine and having a bad reaction, then after being informed it was in his best interest despite the side effects he took the booster and had another bad reaction before telling people to be skeptical of it, and he was also smeared to discussing his experience, this included digging up past dirt for both of them. Neither Joe Rogan or Eric Clapton should be considered statistically representative, and they could be the rare exceptions, but that doesn't mean smears are justified.

There have been several studies on Ivermectin, which has been approved for other uses for thirty-five years with minimal side effects, including Ivermectin for Prevention and Treatment of COVID-19 Infection: A Systematic Review, Meta-analysis, and Trial Sequential Analysis to Inform Clinical Guidelines July/August 2021, which says, "Meta-analysis of 15 trials found that ivermectin reduced risk of death compared with no ivermectin (average risk ratio 0.38, 95% confidence interval 0.19–0.73; n = 2438; I2 = 49%; moderate-certainty evidence). This result was confirmed in a trial sequential analysis using the same DerSimonian–Laird method that underpinned the unadjusted analysis." There are of course many other studies claiming that the vaccine is more effective than Ivermectin, but with all these smears and distortions some might doubt if they can trust those as well. Furthermore, we're now almost at the point where we were told we should reach herd immunity with almost 70% of the public fully vaccinated and over 80% of the public partially vaccinated, yet despite their original claims the deaths from COVID aren't going down, making some doubt the studies.

Sanjay Gupta also admitted that CNN had made false claims as shown in Joe Rogan & CNN Sanjay Gupta Podcast Transcript: Ivermectin 10/14/2021, when he said, "If you got a human pill, because there were people that were taking the veterinary medication and you’re not, obviously. You got it from a doctor, so it shouldn’t be called that. Ivermectin can be a very effective medication for parasitic disease and as you say, it’s probably... I think, what? A quarter billion people have taken it around the world. I get that." He also said that the FDA "was snarky," when they tweeted “'You are not a horse, you are not a cow, stop taking this stuff,' or something like that." Furthermore, not only was the FDA "snarky" when they tweeted this, but they should have been aware of the fact that there were numerous studies in the works, with some of them showing partial success approved by the FDA, although they weren't fast tracked for emergency use like the vaccines.

The fact that they fast tracked approval for the vaccines, which were new and relatively untested before the pandemic, under what they called "Operation Warp Speed" for emergency purposes, and not Ivermectin, which had been proven safe after thirty-three years of previous use for other purposes should raise some questions. At the beginning of the pandemic they had no way of knowing how effective either of them would be; however, at least they had research showing there was little or no chance that Ivermectin would have serious side effects, since it had been tested and used for thirty-three years, now after the pandemic is two years old it's thirty-five years. Furthermore, since it's off-patent, it's much less expensive. This isn't limited to vaccines, it's a very common practice to promote patented drugs, which are much more expensive, and often have a shorter track record, than it is to market drugs that have been around longer and may be just as effective. This is one of the things Rogan was warning his listeners about, although he didn't claim to be an expert. Harriet Washington author of "Deadly Monopolies," Marcia Angell author of "The Truth About Drug Companies," and Peter Duesberg "Inventing the AIDS Virus" all also warned about drug companies using practices that put their own profits ahead of the health of patients as well, although these were all published before the pandemic.

The CDC has acknowledged that there are Possible Side Effects After Getting a COVID-19 Vaccine; Updated Jan. 12, 2022 and in some cases as reported by Dr. John Campbell: Myocarditis after vaccination, may also be a side effect, firm data. 02/11/2022 If you Google it, you'll find that the CDC also acknowledges this possibility, although the media hardly mentions it at all. But even if you agree with the establishment that everyone should get vaccinated, it's still in your best interests to base your decisions on facts without censorship; if Joe Rogan or some of his guests are wrong they should be refuted with facts, not censored. By demanding censorship the establishment has only strengthened his support, since his viewers know more about how he's being smeared than his critics and a growing number of people who weren't previously familiar with him, including me, are learning this is a massive smear effort.

But, of course the smears against Joe Rogan aren't limited to his views on Covid, they also include misrepresenting his views on race, climate change and other issues as shown in this video, Millions Fall For Deceptively Edited Joe Rogan Video 02/09/2022 where both Jimmy Dore and Glen Greenwald expose an edited video of a guest of his making racist about African Americans having violent genes, but it fails to show Rogan's response pointing out that it's actually white people instigating most wars. Another video shows some more smears accusing him of being racist, Joe Rogan vs Joe Rogan Smears 02/14/2022, but this counters these claims with more compelling evidence including numerous interviews with African Americans, at least one with a trans woman and his claims that Barack Obama was the greatest president in our lifetime and that he hopes Michelle would run so he could support her, claiming she would win easily. Personally I have to disagree with his support for the Obama's, not because of their race, but because they caved to corporate interests that financed their campaign. One of these interviews was with Dr. Cornel West on Socialism who he seems to agree with, and who also raised doubts about Barack Obama because of his positions on the issues and the fact that he betrayed minorities once in office to serve corporate interests. Cornel West didn't seem to consider him racist and Ajamu Baraka recently tweeted "Hands down-Joe Biden is more racist than Joe Rogan," and I could easily provide evidence to support this claim.

For every celebrity African American that's criticizing Joe Rogan for using the N-word there's probably another one defending him including Israel Adesanya who said:
The UFC fighter then revealed his suspicions about the origin of the Rogan slur video. “Do you know how much manpower it takes to go through every single episode of the JRE?” he asked. “They probably had a whole team on that s**t. Trying to find every time he used the word. They would have had like 10 people on that s**t. And it’s just like, why now? Just use your brain.”

The Middleweight Champion clarified that while Rogan was wrong to have said racial slurs, he believed his apology was sincere. “Yeah, he was wrong. He shouldn’t have said that. He said “I’m sorry” and that was the most sincere apology I’ve ever seen. Not some scripted, Hollywood, my manager wrote this down for me. I’m like, what more do you want?!”

Israel Adesanya also shared his theory on why the JRE podcast was being cancelled. “He has the biggest platform on planet earth. He can’t be controlled,” he said. “So the people, the powers that be, are like let’s cancel him.” The star predicted that another wave of controversy around Rogan would pop up as his critics will keep trying to get him removed from Spotify.

There were similar misrepresentations recently when Joe Rogan interviewed Jordan Peterson and dozens of sources tried to smear them indicating both of them were Climate Change denialists including the Young Turks Hosts Destroy ‘Most Insane Word Salad You Will Ever Hear’ From Joe Rogan’s Podcast 01/29/2022 at least one of them, John Iadarola indicated that “Yeah, even Rogan didn’t really seem super on board with that.” Yes, while ridiculing someone for using an "insane word salad," one of them used the phrase, "super on board with that.” But a minimal amount of research would show that Joe Rogan was never a Climate Change denialist as indicated in at least a couple easy to find interviews on the subject, Joe Rogan & Candace Owens ARGUE Over Climate Change 05/31/2018 and a more recent one which his critics chose to ignore NEW! Joe Rogan on Climate Change! 02/08/2022 Personally, I wouldn't have invited Candice Owens on the show, but that's beside the point; in both interviews he made it clear that he took Climate Change seriously.

Amazingly there are dozens if not hundreds of people or groups claiming to defend science while demanding that Joe Rogan be censored, or as some people call it, "deplatformed," yet they haven't checked the facts and realized that a large portion of this demand is based on lies about him, not necessarily his lies about COVID or various other subjects.

I don't know whether Neil Young or many other people repeating the smears against Joe Rogan, including a Facebook moderator of a group that censored and blocked me for speaking out against censorship ever checked the facts before joining in on efforts to demand censorship and repeat the smears, but wittingly or unwittingly they helped repeat these smears, claiming to defend science. They didn't succeed in censoring the truth from Rogan supporters, but they may have succeeded in censoring the truth from themselves.

There's a growing effort to convince us that we should trust the leading so-called experts on science without question, even though good science has to allow a reasonable amount of dissent, and address it with factual arguments not ridicule. In most cases the highest profile so-called experts are subtle enough not to openly support censorship, but there are some exceptions, Including when Anthony Fauci said "Attacks On Me, Quite Frankly, Are Attacks On Science" 06/09/2021 which goes too far, since legitimate criticism is needed to sort through the facts, although I get as frustrated as anyone else with irrational attacks from the GOP against science, good or bad, which is what he was responding to. However, he has made similar efforts to censor good academics including Peter Duesberg, and at least four or five other academics who have questioned his handling of AIDS. The number of people in the medical profession questioning this is probably much higher, but as some of Fauci's critics point out, many scientists are dependent on centralized organizations like NIAID or the FDA for funding.

This also includes a lower profile academic that recently supported attempts to censor Joe Rogan who recently told me, "as for your rights, you have none," after I criticized MG's colleague, SH for demanding censorship. I won't mention names here without the full context, but I previously reported this in a Facebook post saying, "Amazingly a so-called scientific group, “S. W.” which used to be very credible and adamantly opposing censorship, while supporting Noam Chomsky, who is one of the leading opponents of censorship, is now defending censorship, instead of refuting opponents. 12/2/2021; this was followed by members of this group who defended censorship while making numerous false claims themselves because they didn't check the facts, and their comments were designed to harass me to delete my criticism of their group and attempt to have me blocked from Facebook, often deleting their own comments as they went along, but once I realized they were doing this I saved screen shots to show they were attempting to use intimidation to support censorship off their own forum and posted them on a separate page, Deleted comments about censorship

MG also said,
"We don't have a culture of censorship. We are not a group for free speech. We are here to actively fight against false claims and slander. In doing so we will actively censor, and that is a good and necessary thing."
"The concept of free speech presupposes that people are not liars and engage in honest debate. The real world however is full of them. That is why journalists are taught to fact-check and get fired when they make up stories."

The problem with this belief is the same one that has happened in every debate about censorship, who determines what the real truth is. The clear implication is that he thinks the moderators of his group do, yet they didn't fact check their own sources, leading them to encourage the censorship of some people that were at least partially telling the truth, while defending those that are at least partially lying, not engaging in honest debate. It also leads to a situation where there are multiple groups that don't listen to each other and assume their own leaders are always right and those that disagree with them are always wrong, which routinely leads to unnecessary conflicts.

Furthermore, the journalists which helped repeat these smears didn't do the fact-checking this moderator seems to think they did; and this isn't uncommon at all. This was supposed to be an environmentalist group; implying that they must know much better sources for environmental news and recognize traditional media, which he partially trusted for his smears against Joe Rogan, often fails to report on many of the biggest environmental damage or research, and even makes false claims about some of them, while selling an enormous number of ads to energy companies making them seem environmentally friendly, although there aren't quite as many of these as there used to be. But instead of demanding that they report more, or demanding that others misrepresenting the environment be "deplatformed" he's supporting those demanding censorship of Joe Rogan, even though his alleged opposition to environmental protection is based on distortions or outright lies.

However, if the people calling to have Joe Rogan censored, or deplatformed, were calling for reform across the board, so that all of us would have equal rights to free speech, or perhaps in some cases, give preferential treatment to good academics on various subjects, including those that disagree with the majority, more than the average right to free speech, I might partially agree with them. Why does Joe Rogan get so much more attention than the rest of us? Why do mainstream media pundits get paid millions of dollars per year even though they do a terrible job reporting the news and provide little or no educational material on any given subject, often getting things wrong when they do provide educational material? Why don't the best academic sources on any given subject get any media coverage, or, in many cases, do much better with the highest profile podcasts or other alternative media outlets?

The vast majority, well over 90%, of national media is controlled by six corporations; and many of the most popular other sources are also controlled, directly or indirectly by billionaires or the same corporations, and to some degree this even includes Joe Rogan! If you look up the most popular podcasts, or other alternative media outlets, in most, if not all cases you may find that many of these podcasters, including Joe Rogan initially gained their popularity from some degree of coverage from mainstream media. Joe Rogan apparently got his start as a MMA fighter then went on to star in several TV shows, including six or seven years hosting Fear Factor before he began his podcast, enabling him to get name recognition and a much bigger audience than he would have otherwise. Why would anyone even watch this pathetic show? What kind of asshole would host a pathetic show like this?

If we had a better educated public there's little or no chance that a pathetic show like this would ever become as popular as it was. Why can't good academic sources on any given subject get media coverage? In a functioning democracy we need to make good educational material available to the public so they can make rational decisions when they participate in the Democratic process. Robert McChesney went into this in a couple of his best books, "Rich Media Poor Democracy" and "The Problem of the Media," where he explained that this precedent was set when they began regulating radio before television was even developed. There were plenty of teachers and other community activists that thought that when developing regulations for radio they should require some good educational content to benefit the majority of the public, but commercial interests that wanted to maximize profits didn't want to provide this and preferred to fund it with advertising, which uses typical propaganda tactics that can't be trusted. There was some additional discussion during the Clinton presidency, but support for educational material accepted the most pathetic excuses for content that was heavily biased, which may not have been possible before the Fairness Doctrine was abandoned by the Reagan administration.

My initial comment that was deleted from a Facebook group claiming to represent a scientific organization which I reposted in my response on my own page said, "Now that support for censorship is growing, with help from Neil Young, who used to oppose it, it's being used against academics and critics of corporate conflicts of interests!" This was actually my greater concern at the time, but declining to give adequate coverage to good academic sources began long before that, and if it hadn't happened many social problems could have been prevented, including reduction of violence, which I often cover, and improved health care, which would be more related to the demand for censorship against Rogan, as well as the best researchers on environmental protection, which scientific supporters warning us about Climate Change, like the moderator that deleted my comment must be aware of.

There has always been plenty of evidence showing that medicare for all will save billions of dollars and thousands of lives every year, and other countries proved how it can be implemented. But instead of demanding more coverage of this, Rogan's opponents are demanding he be censored, even though he supports this. There's also a lot of research showing patent reform will save an enormous amount of money and lives, including books by Marcia Angell, "The Truth About Drug Companies," Harriet Washington, "Medical Apartheid" and "Deadly Monopolies;" these researchers also provide good and credible research showing many conflicts of interests for corporations and politicians. Yet instead of demanding more coverage for good researchers like these, they're demanding Rogan be censored, even though he's shown he's sympathetic to their research even though he doesn't present it as well.

Harriet Washington and Marcia Angell haven't been smeared by commercial media and the pharmaceutical industry that I know, at least not yet, but they hardly get much coverage either, so few people are familiar with their work and how good it is. However, some of the of critics of the medical industry, including some researchers exposing distortions about COVID, or before that other issues, like AIDS, have, even though a lot of their work is very good, although I wouldn't guarantee that all of it is. Both Robert F. Kennedy, author of "The Real Anthony Fauci," and Peter Duesberg, author of "Inventing the AIDS Virus," did some very credible research in their books, although they've been badly smeared by the media and medical establishment. They both provide good coverage of major conflicts of interests, which might explain why their critics resort to smears and attempted censorship instead of scientific rebuttals. In RFK's case he made a few regrettable comments during public speeches, which enabled those trying to smear him, but the quality of his book is much better than his speeches. I wouldn't be surprised if he had more help researching it than he acknowledges, but whether this is the case or not, many of his claims are well sourced and can be easily confirmed. Even if they are wrong about some things, which they almost certainly are, then their critics should respond with fact based rebuttals, not smears; however, this tactic might show that they're right about many other things.

There are also many good experts researching the most effective ways to reduce violence, and they often find that it's much more cost effective for everyone to treat the root causes long before violence escalates, yet, outside of the academic world they hardly get any media coverage at all! I've looked into this much more than the pandemic or AIDS, so I can safely say that many of the best academics absent from the media are very credible, and unlike some academics, like Peter Duesberg, they're not marginalized by the rest of the academic world, but still they get no media coverage and policy decisions aren't based on their research, which could save many lives and billions of dollars. Some of these academics include Barbara Coloroso, Murray Straus, Stacy Patton, and many more, including James Garbarino, who has cited studies showing a home visitor program saves lives and money, Zagar's study which shows that for every dollar spent on treatment programs to at risk children at least six or seven dollars are saved in other expenses, mentor programs in the ghettos that dramatically reduce murder rates in high risk areas, and many other studies showing it saves far more lives and money than they cost, yet few people are aware of it, because they get little or no media coverage. There are similar studies from Portugal showing it's much more effective to treat drug addition than criminalize it, and Finland where they've shown it's cheaper to house the homeless than to deal with long term social consequences. Even though Rogan doesn't do as good a job as these researchers, he's said he supports these types of programs, yet instead of demanding more coverage for these academics they're demanding censorship of Rogan.

And of course, there are many other academics from many other subjects that can't get media coverage, including the best research on Climate Change or other environmental problems, that can't get any media coverage. I could point out many sources for this as well, but you can find them easily in libraries or alternative media outlets, but not in the mainstream media, nor are policy decisions being made based on the best research. Many good activists on a variety of subjects, including environmentalists, are as aware of this if not more aware of this than me, and contrary to some of the smears Joe Rogan agrees, yet some of these environmentalists are jumping on the bandwagon to have him censored.

Then who gains from all this petty bickering? In the long run, no one, especially if we ignore escalating threats from environmental destruction, including Climate Change, wars based on lies and many other social problems that get worse as a result of censorship and bickering, eventually this will come back to haunt even those increasing profits in the short run.

The pharmaceutical companies are increasing their short term profits in the short term since this is distracting from any discussion of Medciare for All or patent reform, and they can continue gouging consumers and tax payers; large media outlets have demonstrated to others that might think of speaking out against the establishment that they might face major retaliation, keeping many in line with the establishment thought process, and since Neil Young moved his music from Spotify to Amazon which is an even bigger oligarchs and other musicians followed suit the consolidation of control of the media has increased, benefiting the oligarchs. Ironically, even though there are more people outraged with Joe Rogan as a result of this smear effort, there are also a lot more people that know about his show and support him, so Joe Rogan will be one of the short term winners from this. His older viewers knew all along that this was a smear based on exaggerations distortions and outright lies and are supporting him more than ever. In addition to that there are a lot more people taking a closer look at him, including me, and learning that he's being smeared, and many of them have become his new supporters.

This means that the efforts to smear him had the opposite effect, and those participating in it should have known this. It's amazing that while so many people were laughing about how attempts to censor Maus were having the Streisand Effect, including many that supported censorship of Joe Rogan, yet they couldn't see that demanding censorship of Rogan would do the same thing, and lead to senseless bickering! Edward Snowden pointed out that the people with the strongest opinions about Joe Rogan are those that never watched his show, which is partly true and this explains why many of them didn't realize that a large portion of the demand for censorship was based on exaggerations, distortions, lies and smears. Just about everyone else will lose from this including many progressives that had to deal with petty bickering instead of pursuing their causes, often also supported by Joe Rogan. Even though Neil Young might also get a short term increase of support from those that agree with him, he has also lost a lot of support from many fans that still support free speech and saw through this; furthermore, not surprisingly, some people did the same thing to him that Rogan's critics and searched through his past to find comments like him worrying about "the faggot behind the register" at the grocery store. In the long run he may pay a much higher price than Rogan.

Walmart Crime Report January 2022

Walmart had at least seventeen more shootings in January 2022, with four of them fatal; this is only three shy of their record for a month, but previous records were holiday months, December with November close behind. At least two or three, if not all four shooting deaths were declared homicides; only one of the shootings was officer involved and that was against an armed person who wasn't killed. There was also a fatal shooting of a Walmart employee at her own home; however, since there's no reason to believe this was related to work, it's not counted among the Walmart shootings or fatalities. One of these shootings was by a one year old that accidentally shot a sibling who survived. There have been at least half a dozen accidental shootings by children over the years, including some fatal, and many more at other locations, but they're almost always reported as isolated incidents with little or no action to prevent them from happening. One article from last year, High Gun Sales And More Time At Home Have Led To More Accidental Shootings By Kids 08/31/2021 indicates there were more than a hundred people killed by accidental shootings by children, and that small grassroots organizations like Everytown for Gun Safety are trying to stop them, but they have few resources and little or no help from much bigger organizations, including the media and political establishment.

There were at least nine more injuries in these shootings, including a second person injured in one of the fatal shootings, and at least one or two critical injury that could lead to an additional death; one of the victims of murder previously counted was critically injured and didn't die until a week or two after the shooting. Some of these shootings involved robberies, stolen vehicles, domestic arguments or other motives. There was also a lawsuit filed about a shooting last year claiming that Walmart should have ensured that their own employees weren't armed and wouldn't shoot customers. The previous reports of this incident didn't even mention that the shooter was a Walmart employee. The victim was someone the employee previously knew and had arguments with.

In addition to the four people killed in shootings there were another eight people that died on the premises or in the parking lot nearby, including one person killed in an accident, three people found dead in two separate vehicle fires, a person hit by a train, and three bodies found on the premises, including one that was severely decomposed. They rarely consider the bodies found on the premises almost every month suspicious, but the fact that they have so many people, mostly poor or drug addicted, turning up dead should indicate a problem that needs to be solved. There were also at least half a dozen, if not much more, other crimes on the premises involving guns, including armed robberies, a suicidal man, and a woman that tried to steal a gun from a police officer.

Walmart has continued to close dozens more stores across the country due to cleaning for COVID; this dramatically increased after the Christmas shopping season strongly implying that waiting until a slow business time is as important to them, if not more important, as protecting the health of their customers and workers. There have also been some Canadian stores that are requiring proof of vaccination due to local ordinances, which is outraging customers, and even forcing some employees to follow customers to ensure they only by pharmacy products or groceries. It's hard to see how anyone wouldn't consider this Orwellian.

Walmart had numerous more major assaults including robberies and assaults of their customers, attacks on their employees, fights, a homicide suspect arrested on the premises, although this homicide was committed elsewhere, and a person who attacked an pepper sprayed someone last month which wasn't reported until this month. This is becoming far more common; the media used to report major assaults and other events promptly, but no longer do, so it's impossible to know how many more incidents are happening at Walmart.

An ex-Walmart worker exposed some of the store "secrets" about preventing shoplifting at the self-checkout, apparently if employees suspect your shoplifting they'll "freeze" your register making it look like a malfunction so they can check up on you. They may save some money by eliminating cashiers, butt his means worse services, and hiring more people to spy on you adding to evidence showing customers are often considered guilty of shoplifting until proven innocent. There have been rare stories in the past showing that they're fully aware that self-checkout encourages shoplifting but they increase it any way because they consider the savings greater than the losses; however they only consider costs they pay for that reduce profits. They don't consider police, court costs, or prison costs, since these are all paid for by tax payers, meaning we're subsidizing their crime problems and their profits. They also don't consider fights, and even shootings or deaths that result from escalating crime at their stores, or virtual entrapment and false accusations, since the only thing they care about is profits for investors.

They also had a woman who approached a mother and offered to buy her child for $250,000 before increasing the offer to $500,000 and getting arrested. An African American law officer was also falsely charged with shoplifting and sued for racial profiling, which is actually quite common, although much more common for minorities who are more likely to get falsely accused, although white might be more likely to win their court cases. Apparently laws against entrapment or false accusations aren't strictly enforces, if at all against oligarchs that donate to campaigns.

There was also a story, which was portrayed as heroic, of an older woman ripping off the ski mask of someone that was trying to leave with unpaid merchandise. This is one of many cases where poor or middle people risked their lives to prevent other poor or middle class people from stealing from oligarchs that help rig the economy in favor of the rich. Many of these vigilantes get nothing in return and if something goes wrong they either get injured or face criminal charges themselves, and Walmart will leave them to take the blame. This woman didn't resort to violence but many other vigilantes have and police have charged them when they go to extremes. It used to be that the police, the media and Walmart would caution people against this type of activity; but lately, they've been glorifying it, even though there's no doubt they'll blame the vigilante in the future, as they have in the past, when things go wrong. I don't know if this person acted out of desperation, but many other have and we should be as concerned, if not more concerned when the rich steal from the working class, whether it's through white collar crime or methods of rigging the economy that are sanctioned by corrupt politicians.

In addition to the person killed in an accident and three other people that were found dead in burning vehicles, there were at least ten or so other major automobile related crimes including one case where a man severely beat an old man before stealing his car, several other stolen cars, chases, some involving more robberies, hit and runs, DUIs, crashes and other automobile crimes. Walmart also had more than half a dozen fires, including one where propane tanks exploded and at least four arsons, two of which were started by the same person who also started fires at other stores to distract from shoplifting. This is semi-routine, although people that commit arson to distract from thefts virtually always get caught, usually far faster than this person. The only thing unusual is that she managed to do it so many times before getting caught.

Walmart also had five more knife attacks or threats, most, if not all that involved robberies; a couple were attacks on police officers who fended them of without firearms, although they used tasers on one. There were also numerous assaults, threats, pepper-spraying incidents, massive thefts as well as petty ones, facial disputes, and a variety of other incidents, including another woman charged with leaving her children alone while shoplifting. I'm not saying this should be excused, but it's also inexcusable to maintain a rigged economy that drives many people to desperation, and those rigging the economy are far worse than poor people resorting to desperate measures.

Walmart has allegedly been exposed of either committing fraud against their customers or enabling other scam artists to do so and refusing to stand by their products, again, at least until being exposed by the media. In one case, which has happened repeatedly, a woman bought a worthless gift curd which was some how spent by a scam artist before she could use it; and in another case a TikToker bout items worth hundreds of dollars only to find the box filled with trash, possibly because someone opened it and switched merchandise before returning it. Similar incidents have happened on numerous occasions, before and it's not uncommon for Walmart to refuse to take responsibility then reverse themselves after the media draws attention to it, although it's unclear if this happened yet.

Walmart also had at least five more recalls this month, most of which were only reported in low profile locations, including beef sticks that weren't labeled for allergens, baby food with high levels of arsenic, ground beef that may have E. coli, salads with Listeria concerns, and baking chips. They were also exposed for selling bikes that were "built-to-fail," that may be cheap initially but break after no more than a few years and bike repair mechanics routinely have to explain they're disposable and constantly replacing them actually costs more than they save.

Walmart was exposed by another TikToker with claims that all their custom-frosted sheet cakes are actually frozen and that nothing is baked in the bakery. The news outlet reporting this couldn't confirm it, but Walmart refused to respond either way and lots of people responded with alleged inside information saying it's true, and so do other chain stores. If you want something fresh that can be confirmed, you'll probably have to go to a small bakery, assuming you can still find one, or make it yourself. They were also exposed in China for creating fake reviews.

Walmart also cut in half paid leave for COVID; which is outrageous for several reasons, including the fact that they became the dominant retailer as a result of political connections that often included subsidies, and it's increasingly clear politicians represent campaign donors, not voters; and those supporting popular issues can't get media coverage, ensuring only corrupt politicians supporting oligarchs can get elected. They're also being sued for wage theft again; using their political clout to avoid taxes and overturn jury verdicts and get many other unjustified advantages not available to small businesses.

They're also being sued by a female truck driver who says their work pants only fit male drivers, and she was forced to buy her own, which is a form of sexual discrimination; and in another bizarre incident a customer claimed, "Not Ripping Me off" and filled his partially full soap bottle with another before returning caps on both and putting the one that came up short back on the shelf. A lot of people responding to this viral claim say they also do this all the time. Both these seem incredibly petty, and to some degree they are; however, the one being incredibly petty is Walmart, not the person filling their soap, since they're relentlessly using their oligarchy power to squeeze everyone, including workers, customers and suppliers. They're not even coming close to acting in good faith, or even pretending to.

A mother of a toddler put a large number of items on order on her phone, then left it with the toddler who played with it and ordered almost two thousands dollars worth of items from Walmart many of which she planned on removing; she was told that she couldn't cancel her order since it was already filled, even though she caught it fairly quick. Fortunately they let her return most of it; but even though she could have been more careful you would think they would have some form of confirmation process, which most online shopping outlets have. Recently I bought a Kindle book which supposedly be done with one click, from another outlet, and was surprised that there was no confirmation process, which there always is for items mailed. I didn't intend to return it but it raised doubts and is virtually guaranteed to lead to arguments and possibly lawsuits.

How often do you see shirtless and shoe-less people running around Walmart attacking people? Only at Walmart?

Perhaps these aren't as apocalyptic as thousands of birds flocking to Walmart and perhaps even attacking people on camera.

Strange things happen at Walmart!

In 2006 Wake Up Walmart did a study, "Is Walmart Safe?" based on incidents in 2004, (PDF) about crime at Walmart which showed that it increased when Walmarts opened up and that crime was higher at Walmart than at other retailers. Since then Walmart Shootings began compiling a list of gun related incidents at Walmart and demonstrated that they have a large number of them, including on average more than one shooting per week somewhere in the country; now after counting them for several years that average is over two per week. In January of 2014 another study, "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" provided additional statistical research indicating that Walmart might be contributing to higher crime rates or at least a slowing of the decline in crime. The study found that. “on average, communities with Walmarts had 17 more property crimes and two more violent crimes per 10,000 people than those communities without Walmarts.” I reviewed this more in Walmart’s crime problem, Rolling Back Safety more than prices? where I explained that although this study is helpful they could have done better with additional data that is available and I reviewed some of that. I also added my own review about why I think that Walmart policies have been contributing to higher crime in a previous blog, Walmart high crime rate continues un-investigaterd and have provided additional information under the author tag Walmart Crime Watch.

Stacy Mitchell has also compiled a list of other studies about Walmart and how they impact society, Key Studies on Big-Box Retail & Independent Business. To the best of my knowledge Walmart has done as little as they seem to get away with, often relying on rhetoric that isn't backed up with action, when it comes to addressing any of their critics concerns, including crime. One of the responses they’ve come up with is what they call "Restorative Justice" which gives first time shoplifters a chance to avoid being arrested or any criminal record if they take an on line course which costs $400 up front or $500 in payments, plus perhaps, reparations. This has been part of the privatization process and often denies suspects of the due process or access to a lawyer, perhaps even intimidating and extorting from some people that might not even be guilty. Walmart seems to be trying to find a way to turn crime into a profit making situation instead of looking for the most effective ways to reduce it. Making Change at Walmart is asking If you or someone you know has gone through @Walmart's "Restorative Justice" program for first-time suspected shoplifters, send us a DM. 03/30/2017 to ensure that it isn’t doing more harm than good. I did my own review of this program as well at Walmart’s “Restorative Justice” Endangers Public Without Reducing Crime. The following are a list of incidents that occurred in January 2022. According to the "Is Walmart Safe?" the average store in their sampling had 250 incidents per year indicating that these are only a fraction of the crime reports at Walmart, and presumably, the ones most likely to make the news on the internet nationwide. This isn't statistically representative, as the 2006 or the "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" study or some of the studies cited by Stacy Mitchell; but it does provide some additional information that may help recognize how many problems there are at Walmart.

Walmart asks court to throw out $2.1m verdict in Alabama shoplifting arrest case 01/04/2021

Mobile, Ala. (WKRG) — Attorneys for Walmart have asked a Mobile County Circuit Court judge to overturn the jury verdict in a case brought by a Semmes woman who claimed she was falsely arrested for shoplifting.

In a motion filed December 29th, 2021, Walmart says Lesleigh Nurse failed to prove the company was guilty of abuse of process by charging her criminally for shoplifting then attempting to recover money through Alabama’s civil recovery laws.

At the end of October, a jury ruled in favor of Nurse in a $2.1 million verdict. Nurse claimed she had been falsely accused of shoplifting in November 2016 by a loss prevention manager at the Semmes Walmart store. The company claimed she failed to pay for 11 items found in her shopping bags. A warrant was later issued for her arrest. The criminal charge was later dropped. Complete article

Man arrested for allegedly robbing at Texarkana Tx. Walmart 01/10/2021

TEXARKANA, Texas -- A 36-year-old man has been arrested on several charges resulting from an alleged robbery at Walmart Supercenter on New Boston Road.

Desean Hendrix was arrested Sunday night on charges of robbery, evading arrest with a vehicle, and endangering a child, according to the Texarkana Texas Police Department. The charges are all felonies. His total bond for the three charges was set at $120,000. He's still being held in the Bi-State jail.

A Walmart Loss Prevention employee noticed Hendrix at one of the self-checkout registers Sunday and noticed he allegedly did not scan all the items in his shopping cart. In fact, he allegedly only paid for $10.44 of stuff despite having $113.50 worth of items in his buggy.

When the female employee tried to stop him as he was leaving the store, he allegedly rammed the shopping cart into her leg and continued to his car in the parking lot. Once there, he threw the items from the buggy and his three year old son into the backseat the car and took off, according to police.

When he got behind the car and turned on his emergency lights, the driver immediately fled at a high rate of speed and began swerving around other cars and all over the road, according to police accounts. Mechanics Ask Walmart, Major Bike Manufacturers to Stop Making and Selling ‘Built-to-Fail’ Bikes 01/13/2021

Mac Liman has been a bike mechanic for 18 years, and she’s seen her fair share of crappy bikes. As the program director for Bikes Together in Denver, a nonprofit that provides bicycles, repairs, and education courses to members of the community, Liman isn’t adopting the snooty tone of a high-end bicycle shop sneering at your 14-speed Trek with mechanical brakes. She’s talking about the kind of bikes, hastily wrenched together out of flat-packed boxes by people with minimal training, that mechanics have long called bike-shaped objects: bikes with misaligned wheels, forks on backwards, and faulty handlebars, bikes that break after just a few dozen hours of use and that cannot be repaired.

By her estimation, the crappy-bike problem has gotten “increasingly worse over the last 10 years.” But it was the bike boom accompanying the pandemic, and the ensuing wave of people with broken bikes, that spurred Liman to finally do something about it. She started a petition calling on bike manufacturers and major bike retailers to “stop producing and selling bikes that fall apart after a few months of use…We are tired of telling distraught customers and riders that their bikes are made too poorly to fix, and we are tired of seeing these bikes filling up our waste streams. Frankly, you should be ashamed of selling bikes that last some 90 riding hours.”

Liman is hardly the only bike mechanic to see these problems. Josh Bisker, the executive director and co-founder of Mechanical Gardens Bike Co-op in Brooklyn, a nonprofit similar to Bikes Together, said these “budget bikes,” as he calls them, have been around since at least the 1990s but feel like “a tale as old as time.” When asked what the problem with them is, Bisker responded, “The problem with budget bikes is everything. They’re literally built to fail.”

The petition further calls for a creation of a “minimum durability standard” of 500 riding hours, designing bikes “to be serviceable,” and to “stop creating and selling bikes that are made to fall apart.” As of Wednesday afternoon, Liman said, the petition had almost 1,000 signatures. Walmart Inc. has been fined 300,000 yuan ($47,171) in China for falsifying product reviews on its app, local authorities in Guangdong province said.

The Guangdong Administration for Market Regulation said in a recent notice on its website that Walmart had been fined after regulators determined that from October 2020 to May 2021 the U.S. company's Sam's Club app automatically assigned products five-star reviews when users had yet to rate the transacted products themselves.

The regulator said the practice amounts to misleading consumers and making false product promotion, in violation of the Anti-Unfair Competition Law. Complete article

Zayed Law Offices Files Lawsuit Against Walmart Inc. for Ill. Shooting of a Customer by an Employee In March 2021 01/19/2021 Early reports of this shooting didn't mention the shooter was an employee.

CHICAGO, Jan. 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Zayed Law Offices, a premier personal injury trial law firm, announced the filing of a lawsuit against Walmart Inc. in connection with the shooting of a patron by an alleged employee in the parking lot of a Bolingbrook, Illinois store.

Zayed Law Offices filed this complaint on behalf of a client alleging that Walmart Inc., the owner and operator of the store at 200 S. Bolingbrook Drive was negligent in allowing its employee to possess a firearm on its premises.

"Customers have a reasonable expectation of safety when they step foot on a Walmart parking lot, and our client was injured due to no fault of his own," said Adam J. Zayed, founder of Zayed Law Offices.

According to the Complaint, Walmart has a duty to exercise ordinary care for the safety of patrons that are lawfully on their premises. On March 30, 2021, the day of the alleged shooting, Defendant Walmart Inc. failed to make reasonable investigation in order to prevent grievous injury to its patrons. Mr. Zayed alleges that, "Walmart should have done more to protect their customers from absurd situations like this shooting. This was completely avoidable, and Walmart cannot shirk responsibility by saying this was an intentional act by an employee on a frolic and a detour. Walmart has a duty to train its employees properly and to prevent employees from carrying firearms while clearing shopping carts in the lot." Complete article

Ex-Walmart Worker Spills Store 'Secrets' Such As Freezing Shoppers' Screens 01/19/2021

Aself-described former Walmart employee has shared the little-known tactic they allegedly used to prevent shoplifters in their tracks at self-checkouts.

Thanks to a viral video from August 2021, the existence of devices used by Walmart staff was known. The previous video had revealed that workers at self-checkouts carry portable devices that show each checkout's scanned items, meaning workers can see what has and hasn't been paid for.

Now, however, another Walmart worker has explained the subtle technique used to stop shoplifters in a non-confrontational way, when they realize some items are not going to be scanned. "On these Walmart TC devices we have the option to pause your self-checkout at any point and pretend there's something wrong with the machine if we suspect there's anything you're stealing," explained Athenia Camacho in a video with over 3 million views.

"So at any point on this device, if we click the number, it will show us your entire order and everything that you've so far scanned in, and if we suspect that you're stealing, there's going to be an option at the bottom that says 'pause transaction,'" she continued. Complete article

The charges against Toekulah were dropped by the Worcester District Attorney’s office after defense counsel submitted a motion in September 2019 that argued surveillance video from Walmart discredited Mitchell’s police report, according to court documents. Complete article

Toddler accidentally purchases nearly $2,000 worth of items from Walmart 01/20/2021

A New Jersey family was stumped when multiple packages for items they never ordered arrived at their home, only to find out that the culprit was their own child.

The 22-month-old had accidentally racked up a Walmart bill for almost $2,000.

Ayaansh Kumar isn’t even 2 years old, but like most children today, he loves to play on his electronic device. But that activity recently got him into some expensive trouble.

“He just went to the cart and whatever was there, boom, he just clicked and all payments just went through,” says father Pramod Kumar.

The Kumar family just moved into their new home. Mother Madhu, who admits to being a frequent shopper, says all her payment information is already loaded onto her phone. She was still in the process of picking and choosing which pieces of furniture she was ultimately going to buy, never intending to keep all the pieces she added to the online shopping cart. But little Ayaansh had other plans that ended up costing the family $1,700, which they caught too late.

“We saw this guy, phone in hand – Oh no,” says Pramod. “We called, ‘Can you please cancel?’ They said no, it’s already delivered.” Complete article

Westminster Colorado defends actions of ex-officers sued over Taser use, releases video of Walmart incident 01/21/2022

Clayton Shriver filed federal lawsuit last week alleging excessive force in 2020 arrest

A former Westminster police officer used a Taser on a 78-year-old man in a Walmart after the man tried to walk past the officer during a confrontation, surveillance video of the incident shows.

Westminster police released the video this week in response to a civil rights lawsuit filed Jan. 14 by the man, Clayton Shriver, against the city and the two former officers involved in the incident. The department defended the former officers’ actions, noting they had been cleared by an internal investigation.

In the lawsuit, Shriver’s attorneys alleged the officers used excessive force and unfairly prosecuted Shriver, and said the Westminster Police Department failed to properly train them.

Both of the officers involved, Michael Owen and Tyler Farson, resigned from the department in 2021 for reasons not connected to the incident, Westminster police spokeswoman Cheri Spottke said in a news release. Complete article

Yes, Self-Checkout Machines Encourage Shoplifting. Here's Why Stores Love Them Anyway 10/09/2019

With self-checkout machines suddenly everywhere you may be wondering...with no one to watch shoppers, don’t they just steal stuff?

The answer, in short, is yes. While technology can improve a lot of things, it can’t change human nature.

But, say retail industry experts, for many stores, the machines are worth the hassle. Indeed, shops ranging from superstores like Target and Walmart to convenience chain CVS to local mom-and-pop groceries have all been adding machines. One recent study suggested globally, self-checkout could continue to grow 10% a year for the next five years.

So what gives? While shoppers may love or hate self-checkout, for stores it often comes down to one thing: Machines mean fewer cashiers, and that can translate to big savings, even if it encourages some shoppers to take the five-fingered discount. .....

Big Brother Is Coming

Of course, ultimately most retailers will want it both ways — as few cashiers and as little shrinkage as possible.

Stoplift Checkout Vision Systems, a checkout vision software maker, aims to detect fraudulent transactions through video rather than just using the weight scale provided at the self-checkout machine. AI-enabled video allows the company to flag any price switching or fake scanning and offer customer assistance, says Malay Kundu founder of the StopLift, which was acquired by NCR Corporation, the largest manufacturer of self-checkouts, last year. Pepsi And Walmart Each Facing Calls For Boycotts On Twitter – Do Social Media Boycotts Actually Matter? 01/25/2021

The hashtags #BoycottPepsi and #BoycottWalmart were trending on Twitter on Tuesday morning – and for very different reasons. In the case of the world's largest retailer, the calls to boycott came after it was announced that stores in Quebec would require shoppers who don't have proof of vaccination to be escorted to the pharmacy by an associate; while the soft drink maker found itself the target of a boycott campaign after the company was named in a report, listed for having donated to the Texas Republican Party.

Such calls for boycotts have certainly increased in recent years thanks to social media, but the effectiveness could certainly be called into question. It was just last week that #BoycottStarbucks was trending after the coffee house announced it would no longer require its some 228,000 employees to be vaccinated against Covid-19, and it didn't really seem to impact Starbucks much, if at all.

"It is especially easy to get caught up in the minutia of social media," explained Jason Mollica, professor in the school of communications at the American University. "So many people have a complaint, and they publicly vent their complaints on social media. We see it with politics, with sports and entertainment. We've seen calls to boycott a film because some fans didn't like the casting or simply the way the film ended. These calls for boycotts become part of the noise." Complete article

Alleged Ex-Walmart Employee Claims Sheet Cakes Are Frozen 01/28/2021

ATikToker who claims to be an ex-Walmart employee is accusing the store of only serving frozen sheet cakes and that "nothing is actually baked in the bakery."

In a video uploaded on January 14, Kat Marie or @kazmarie13 on TikTok replied to a video asking users to share a company secret. The TikToker received more than 78,400 views but had many users divided in the comments.

Marie claimed in the video responding to another TikToker, @princessannafit, that the reason shoppers must give advance notice before buying a cake from the store is because it has to be taken out of the freezer.

"The reason you have to give so much notice before getting a cake that's like custom decorated is not because that's how long it takes them to bake the cake," they said. "It's because that's how long it takes the frozen sheet cake to thaw out."

The TikToker continued to claim that "nothing is actually baked in the bakery" and that it is all just frozen and heated up. Complete article

Walmart’s New Store Design Sends Another Department Store ‘Wake-Up’ Call 01/31/2021

We seem to be living in a topsy-turvy state of retailing right now. Corporate raiders are swarming over once glamourous or at least vital, undervalued flailing department stores, looking to extract equity or part them out. Meanwhile the once “stack ‘em high and watch ‘em fly” discounters are getting attention for their dynamic design moves and upping the customer experience.

Target made headlines back in 2017 when it introduced the “reimagined Target”, a key part of its $7 billion, 3-year initiative, to take the entire customer experience to the next level. Now all indications are that even as Target and Walmart have steadily siphoned off market share from department stores, J.C. Penney, Kohl’s and Macy’s, Walmart is preparing to up the ante, even more.

Because most customers shop with smartphone in hand, Walmart has smartly integrated QR codes throughout. They serve multiple purposes from helping customers with top-line information about a brand or product, to the more valuable “endless aisle” function. Complete article
