Walmart Crime Report December 2025

Walmart had another six shootings in December 2025, which is lower than usual for the past ten to twelve years at least, and it's especially low for the Holiday season, which is almost always worse than the rest of the year; however, as I explained last month reporting hasn't been as reliable as it used to be on News outlets shown on Google, but it still appears unlikely that inadequate reporting will explain this drop even if a couple were missed. At least two of those shootings were fatal with one of them an officer involved shooting where the suspect allegedly "took a shooting stance" against police with what could have been a weapon, but police haven't confirmed that he had a gun, which they should have been able to figure out immediately. One of the other shootings was by an employee and another suspect at the same store who also fired a gun both were charged with attempted murder, but the employee claimed he was trying to prevent a mass shooting, even though Walmart policies ban him from carrying a gun at all, since he wasn't a security or police officer. And there was at least one more injury from another one of the shootings.

There was also another attempted shooting where a suspect was taken to the processing area of the loss prevention office and the suspect pulled out a gun pointing at the officer and pulling the trigger, but the gun didn't go off; if it had there's a good chance the police officer would have been killed, the suspect was charged with attempted murder. There were also another three allegedly false reports of shootings, including one where it was called in by the alleged shooter who claimed to be in the store, but it's a safe bet that this was a bluff, another where several witnesses said there was an active shooter and guns were retrieved showing the suspects were armed, but police claimed there were no shots fire, without explaining how they could be sure, police also claimed the same for the third false alarm, although claims of a shooter in that case weren't as compelling as the other.

In addition to the two dead from shootings there were two more killed in accidents, five bodies on their property, most considered non-suspicious, and a court sentence for a father who ran over his own son last January, bringing the total dead to ten, which counts one dead person from eleven months ago, but this wasn't previously reported in a high profile manner, which adds to evidence showing major crimes, including murder, aren't being reported consistently anymore by search engines of News stories. One of the bodies found on their property was a veteran that was reported missing veteran found after a "Green Alert" was issued, which is for veterans in a possible crisis, often suicidal, but there was no additional details about how he died or if it was suicide with a gun or any other method.

For the entire year Walmart had at least eleven shootings and two deaths in January; fifteen shootings and fourteen deaths in February; eight shootings and eight deaths in March; seventeen shootings and twelve deaths in April; ten shootings and six deaths in May; twelve shootings and eight to eleven deaths in June; ten shootings and twelve deaths in July; eleven shootings and nine deaths in August; thirteen shootings and nine to thirteen deaths in September; fifteen or sixteen shootings and sixteen deaths in October; eleven shootings and nine deaths in November; plus six shootings last month and ten deaths last month which makes the total at least one-hundred-thirty-nine to one-hundred-forty shootings and one-hundred-fifteen to one-hundred-twenty-two deaths in 2025.

There were also at least an additional six gun related crimes including at least two armed abductions or attempted armed abductions, a false alarm after threats, and two air-gun incidents. There was also one police officer arrested for theft at Walmart and another older case of a police officer stealing from Walmart was settled with the officer pleading to a reduced charge; but as usual when police are caught stealing from Walmart or other politically connected people or organizations they're quickly fired, while they often fight tooth and nail to stay on the job when caught using excessive force, sometimes even killing poor people, often successfully even when there's strong evidence of abuse or unnecessary force.

Another city, Anchorage Alaska, has reported that they've had thousands of police calls made to their local Walmart over a two year span, adding to hundreds more that have similar reports, often saying that crime is much worse at Walmart than any other business or place, for one reason or another. At times these reports have surged, at other times there has been evidence that they use their political power to suppress reports. There hasn't been recent hard evidence of suppression of these reports, but there have been fewer of them in the past, which might be circumstantial evidence that they suppressed reports, although more evidence is preferential. There have also been numerous reports of police undercover operations to increase arrests for shoplifting for the holidays; while efforts to charge poor people stealing from the rich are always common, even during the holidays, they rarely if ever try to charge rich people stealing from the middle class or the poor, which is much more common than most people know. they often take advantage of modern technology to catch poor people stealing months if not years after it happens including a credit card fraud case that might have gone beyond the statute of limitations if they waited any long since it had already been several years.

Michigan has finally cut down on self-checkout; this is the same state where I reported last July that Judge Jeffrey Middleton was ranting against self-checkout on a regular basis; they didn't say there was a conection when this was reported, but it's virtually guaranteed that there is.

A Texas woman was arrested in Louisiana for shoving razor blades in numerous bread or pastry items in several stores, although they probably weren't hidden well so they were spotted before anyone got hurt.

There's another case in Kansas City where police have been accused of over-reacting to a self-checkout mistake. This isn't the first time this happened in the same area; often the most violent police are in the most violent areas, but they often use excessive violence in minor cases too, while ignoring the root causes of violence, which is what makes these cities so violent in the first place.

There have been numerous reports of ICE officers harassing and arresting people during the holidays, including one that spurred large protests and another that allegedly involved petty theft by ICE agents. In addition to the two fatal accidents there were more than an additional dozen major accidents, police chases, stolen vehicles, hit and runs and other automobile crimes or accidents. There were also at least seven major fires, at least two that were arson, one that probably wasn't and the rest may not have been publicly disclosed, assuming investigations were completed. One of those arsons was months after a previous arson at the same store, early reports implied it might have been the same person or organization, even though this probably wasn't the case, but they didn't quite phrase it that way, which may have lead some people to distrust protesters for a legitimate cause, since the first arson was allegedly by someone associated to a protest, but no other protesters were involved, and even though the establishment often tries to smear protesters, they rarely if ever get involved in something like this, and that arson was in a contained area with little or no chance of spreading.

There were also at least five knife threats or stabbings, including one argument between employees that led to a stabbing, and another fight with two people armed with knifes threatening each other as well as several more threats.

Have you seen any escaped Wallabys at Walmart lately? One named Rex made his way back homw where I hope he has plenty of space to hop around when the weathers good.

How about rats crawling through Walmart vegetables? Have you seen that? If you're in or near Humble Texas you may have, and animals, including mice or rats, have been spotted at other stores; Walmart has never done as well as other grocery stores keeping food fresh and safe from animals in it's large stores. Most pictures don't show it very well, but some are clear enough to spot at least two rats, probably three.

Strange things happen at Walmart!

In 2006 Wake Up Walmart did a study, "Is Walmart Safe?" based on incidents in 2004, (PDF) about crime at Walmart which showed that it increased when Walmarts opened up and that crime was higher at Walmart than at other retailers. Since then Walmart Shootings began compiling a list of gun related incidents at Walmart and demonstrated that they have a large number of them, including on average more than one shooting per week somewhere in the country; now after counting them for several years that average is over two per week. In January of 2014 another study, "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" provided additional statistical research indicating that Walmart might be contributing to higher crime rates or at least a slowing of the decline in crime. The study found that. “on average, communities with Walmarts had 17 more property crimes and two more violent crimes per 10,000 people than those communities without Walmarts.” I reviewed this more in Walmart’s crime problem, Rolling Back Safety more than prices? where I explained that although this study is helpful they could have done better with additional data that is available and I reviewed some of that. I also added my own review about why I think that Walmart policies have been contributing to higher crime in a previous blog, Walmart high crime rate continues un-investigaterd and have provided additional information under the author tag Walmart Crime Watch.

Over the past ten to fifteen years Walmart has been increasing the use of self-checkout, and this has corresponded with a steady increase in shoplifting as well as false accusations, yet they refuse to even discuss returning to the use of cashiers. What most people seem to have forgotten was that when they first did this it was on a small scale as an experiment, presumably to see if it worked before expanding it, which would actually make sense, if they slowed it down or reversed it once they saw how many problems it caused. But that's not what they did. Instead the more problems they had the more they increased use of self-checkout, often claiming that instead of hiring more cashiers again, which worked previously, they resorted to more technology and hiring more security to catch people skip scanning or at other forms of theft. This has led to massive amounts of false accusations, in addition to the real thefts, and when the thefts are real, and they get caught, they often resort to violence, so it endangers both Walmart workers and customers.

Now they're acting as if the rise of shoplifting is happening for some inexplicable reason and even asking police to help them solve this problem, as if it wasn't a problem created by their own policies, and most of the media or politicians aren't pointing out the obvious. This is resulting in a massive increase in arrests, court expenses, and prison expenses, which Walmart isn't paying for, effectively meaning we are subsidizing Walmart's high crime problems with tax money. There's no official explanation for why they're behaving so foolishly; but, since this is a for profit corporation it's not hard to speculate about the most likely reason for it, that they're increasing profits for those making the decisions. But, a large portion of the money saved by not hiring cashiers is spent on technology or security to catch thieves; and, if they had to pay the increase in police, courts and prison costs that would reduce or eliminate their savings, and they would almost certainly reverse their policies, because they wouldn't be increasing profits with self-checkout.

This doesn't even include the risk to the health of both their customers and workers when the worst thieves turn violent, in some cases possibly even shooting and killing people. Every year since 2016 has seen more than a hundred shootings at Walmart, and more often than not, this is increasing, while they ignore the causes of their crime problems. These self-checkouts are also making it easier for thieves to put "skimmers" that collect credit or debit card information from customers that enable them to use their cards illegally, but, once again, the customers are stuck with the tab, not Walmart, so they're doing little or nothing to stop this, even though it's a direct result of their bad policies. And furthermore, courts have ruled that Walmart has a right to detain customers even when they have no reason to believe they're shoplifting, if they simply refuse to show receipts, as a matter of principle. At times some lawyers have claimed they need probable cause to ask to see receipts, which, if a customer goes directly from the register, sometimes even when there's a cashier, to the door they can't possibly have. So this means Walmart is under no obligation to assume their paying customers are innocent until proven guilty, which should raise major constitutional questions!

Stacy Mitchell has also compiled a list of other studies about Walmart and how they impact society, Key Studies on Big-Box Retail & Independent Business. To the best of my knowledge Walmart has done as little as they seem to get away with, often relying on rhetoric that isn't backed up with action, when it comes to addressing any of their critics concerns, including crime. One of the responses they’ve come up with is what they call "Restorative Justice" which gives first time shoplifters a chance to avoid being arrested or any criminal record if they take an on line course which costs $400 up front or $500 in payments, plus perhaps, reparations. This has been part of the privatization process and often denies suspects of the due process or access to a lawyer, perhaps even intimidating and extorting from some people that might not even be guilty. Walmart seems to be trying to find a way to turn crime into a profit making situation instead of looking for the most effective ways to reduce it. Making Change at Walmart is asking If you or someone you know has gone through @Walmart's "Restorative Justice" program for first-time suspected shoplifters, send us a DM. 03/30/2017 to ensure that it isn’t doing more harm than good. I did my own review of this program as well at Walmart’s “Restorative Justice” Endangers Public Without Reducing Crime. The following are a list of incidents that occurred in December 2025. According to the "Is Walmart Safe?" the average store in their sampling had 250 incidents per year indicating that these are only a fraction of the crime reports at Walmart, and presumably, the ones most likely to make the news on the internet nationwide. This isn't statistically representative, as the 2006 or the "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" study or some of the studies cited by Stacy Mitchell; but it does provide some additional information that may help recognize how many problems there are at Walmart.

Millions of Walmart customers victims of major scam 12/04/2025

The Federal Communications Commission is cracking down on a company it said was behind millions of scam robocalls impersonating Walmart employees.

FCC’s Enforcement Bureau has demanded SK Teleco, a U.S.-based voice service provider, to cease and desist processing the robocalls. If it fails to act, the FCC warned, SK Teleco could be cut off from U.S. communications networks, a step that, according to CordCuttersNews.com, would “effectively isolate the company from the national communications grid, a penalty the FCC has imposed only a handful of times in its history.”

“Scammers and thieves using our phone networks to defraud consumers or steal personal data is illegal and voice service providers must be part of the solution,” FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said in a statement. “While most providers understand this responsibility, we won’t tolerate those that turn a blind eye and allow shady robocallers on their networks.” Complete article

More than 1 million bags of shredded cheese sold at major retailers, including Walmart, Publix and Aldi, have been recalled because the products may contain metal fragments, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

In a Dec. 1 notice, the FDA said the shredded cheese was manufactured by Ohio-based Great Lakes Cheese Co., and was sold in 31 states and Puerto Rico. The recall is rated as "class II" by the FDA, which means the product could "cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences," although the potential for serious injuries is remote.

“My phone wasn’t on me”: Shoppers are asking why Walmart knows when they bought something in cash 12/06/2025

“I didn’t have my phone or any electronics with me, how do they even know what I bought?”

TikTokers are raising alarms about Walmart’s data practices after multiple shoppers reported receiving emails that referenced items they bought in cash.

The claims hinge on a now-viral video from a creator who said he left no digital footprint yet still received a personalized post-purchase email from Walmart.

Viewers suspect the retailer is turning to AI-powered surveillance tools, including facial recognition, to link in-store behavior to customer profiles. ......

Skeptics suggested maybe he previously looked the item up online or typed his phone number in for rewards. But most commenters, including Walmart employees, said the store got Graham’s data via facial recognition technology. Complete article

Does Walmart track customers even when they pay in cash? What we know 12/29/2025 Walmart gave Snopes a possible explanation for a customer being sent an email about a product he purchased with cash. ....

We are always working toward a more meaningful and personalized shopping experience for our customers. Today, the most likely explanation for an email following a cash transaction is that the customer was prompted at checkout to enter their phone number and opt in to link the transaction to a Walmart account that shared that phone number.

Snopes reached out to the user who posted the TikTok video that spread the claim to ask if he indeed entered his phone number at checkout. We will update this article if we hear back.

Snopes tried replicating the scenario by making a purchase in a Walmart store at self-checkout, in cash, without entering any information such as a phone number. As of this writing, we had not received a follow-up email asking us to review the product.

Though the company stated there was a probable explanation for the TikTok user's experience and our own test yielded no results, based on Walmart's privacy policy on data collection, we could not definitively rule out other possible explanations. Therefore, we have left this claim unrated.

Kentucky woman goes to Walmart for some ink, sees it’s cheaper to buy the printer again. Then she confronts a worker about it: ‘This makes no sense’ 12/09/2025

Printer ink is one of those items that never seems to go down in price. While efficiencies in the market have allowed some tech products to become incredibly cheap—for example, it’s pretty easy to get a massive TV on a budget these days—there are some items that seem wholly immune to this trend.

For example, internet users have long complained about the price of ink. Despite the continuing (occasional) need for printers, prices on ink haven’t come down. In fact, by volume, printer ink is substantially more expensive than Dom Pérignon champagne or Chanel No. 5 perfume.

These high prices can lead to some pretty ridiculous situations. For example, one user on TikTok says that she went to buy ink at Walmart, only to discover a ludicrous method for getting a good deal.

What Happened During This Walmart Shopper’s Printer Ink Purchase?

In a video with over 618,000 views, TikTok user Julie (@life.styled.withjulie) films herself standing in the aisle of a Walmart.

According to Julie, she went to the store to purchase ink for her printer. When she got there, she discovered that her ink, which typically cost around $40, was “now $79.” ....

“So, it was $79 just for ink,” she says. “This whole printer is $64. So it’s cheaper to buy the printer and get the ink than just buy the ink.” .....

First, many printer companies run their business on what’s called a “razor and blades” model. This is where a dependent good, such as a printer, is sold at cost or at a loss. This is done because the companies know they can make their money back by charging customers for things like ink, which they do at a hefty markup. Complete article

Walmart drones could soon deliver groceries in Central Florida. This city may be the hub 12/09/2025

CLERMONT, Fla. – Clermont will consider easing some restrictions to increase security and storage space that would allow Walmart to bring a drone delivery service to the area.

The company wants to build an 8-foot fence around the site, but the current city code only allows a 6-foot fence. During Tuesday’s city council meeting, the company is asking for two variances from the Land Development Code to support the implementation of a new drone delivery service at the existing Walmart Supercenter at 1450 Johns Lake Road.

According to the agenda, the requested changes are to allow for a fence to be more than 6 feet in a commercial district and to allow for a shipping container to be used for a drone delivery service for a longer time period allowed under a temporary structure permit. Complete article

Michigan Walmarts to Shrink Self-Checkout in 2026 12/11/2025

Walmart has decided to rearrange the retail universe once again, and Michigan shoppers are about to feel it, whether they shop once a month or treat the place like a second home. NewsBreak reports that the big blue giant is pulling back on self-checkout while tinkering with who gets to use it.

Michigan Shoppers Split on Checkout Changes

Shoppers across Michigan are splitting into two camps: those who have always despised self-checkout, and those who would rather scale the Mackinac Bridge in a blizzard than chit-chat with a cashier. Walmart's 2026 plan throws both groups into the same fluorescent-lit arena.

Some stores in Michigan will keep a few kiosks, but only for tiny baskets or customers who behave like responsible adults. Other locations may rip them out entirely and go back to staffed lanes. Complete article

SC court overturns $10M verdict for woman who suffered nail injury at Walmart 12/10/2025

April Jones was awarded $10 million in a 2022 trial after a nail injury led to her requiring amputation. The case will now head back to trial after a court ruling.

FLORENCE, S.C. — A South Carolina woman's lawsuit against Walmart will head back to trial, more than three years after she was awarded $10 million for an injury she suffered at the store.

In a November opinion, the South Carolina Court of Appeals reversed a 2021 decision in Florence County that awarded $10 million to April Jones.

Court records say Jones stepped on a rusty nail at a Walmart store in Florence in June 2015. The nail had to be surgically removed, eventually causing her right leg to be partially amputated.

Jones sued Walmart in 2017. The case went to trial in November 2021, when a jury found Walmart liable. Complete article

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Quinnetta Lashara Quinn, 38, was arrested yesterday for allegedly pepper-spraying a Walmart employee who tried to stop her from stealing a cart full of merchandise in November.

A Gainesville Police Department officer reported that at 7:50 p.m. on November 20, a Walmart Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) said a woman tried to leave the northwest Walmart (5700 NW 23rd Street) with a cart of stolen merchandise. When the LPO tried to stop her, the woman sprayed the LPO three times in the face with pepper spray; the woman and the LPO struggled over the cart and the merchandise, and the woman ran out of the store with the cart and got into a waiting van, leaving the merchandise in the cart.

House Springs man suspected of stealing from Eureka Missouri Walmart 12/12/2025

Eureka Police allege a House Springs man stole crossbows on three separate days over a three-week period from Walmart, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive. The man was already not allowed to enter Walmart stores in Arnold and St. Louis County for allegedly stealing from those locations, police reported.

As of Tuesday, the man had not been arrested and the allegedly stolen crossbows had not been recovered, Lt. Brett Grittini said.

Officers were called Nov. 21 to the store by an employee, who said surveillance video allegedly showed the man taking the crossbows, Eureka Police reported.

On Oct. 25, the man appeared to use a key to remove a secured crossbow in the sporting goods section. He then went to the toy section, hid the crossbow under his clothes and left the store, the report said.

The man returned Oct. 28, and he allegedly used the key again to get another crossbow. He then went to the tools section, hid the crossbow under his clothes and left the store, according to the report.

On Nov. 13, the man repeated the process to get a crossbow. He then went to the bicycle section, put the crossbow into a bag and left the store, the report said. Complete article

Secret Documents Show Pepsi and Walmart Colluded to Raise Food Prices Across the Economy 12/13/2025

The Trump FTC tried to hide a complaint showing Pepsi forced shoppers to pay higher prices everywhere but Walmart. But now it's unsealed. And the politics of affordability are explosive.

Last month, the Atlanta Fed came out with a report showing a clear relationship between consolidation in grocery stores and the rate of food inflation. Unsurprisingly, where monopolies prevail, food inflation is 0.46 percentage points higher than where there is more competition. The study showed that from 2006-2020, the cumulative difference amounted to a 9% hike in food prices, and presumably since 2020, that number has gone much higher.

Affordability, in other words, is a market power problem.

And yesterday, we got specifics on just how market power in grocery stores works. The reason is because a nonprofit just forced the government to unseal a complaint lodged by Lina Khan’s FTC against Pepsi for colluding with Walmart to raise food prices across the economy. A Trump official tasked with dealing with affordability tried to hide this complaint, and failed. And now there’s a political and legal storm as a result.

Let’s dive in.

Everyone knows the players involved. Pepsi is a monster in terms of size, a $90 billion soft drink and consumer packaged goods company with multiple iconic beverage and food brands each worth over $1 billion, including Pepsi-Cola, Frito Lay, Mountain Dew, Starbucks (under license), Gatorade, and Aquafina. Walmart is a key partner, with between 20-25% of the grocery market. Complete article

‘They Have To Honor It’: Rhode Island Man Finds Pricey Hart Tools For 3 Cents At Walmart. Then A Worker Comes Over 12/12/2025

If you ever find a deal that looks too good to be true, chances are high that it is.

Often, stores will simply mislabel a price—or an item will end up in the wrong section and make customers believe they can get it for pennies.

Most stores will simply not honor this price. Still, that hasn’t stopped some internet users from trying to check out with these incredible deals. Recently, one TikToker user tried to complete such a transaction—only to be stopped by an employee. Why?

What Went Wrong With This Walmart Purchase?

In a video with over 128,000 views, TikTok user Chad Wilson (@chadwilsontattoo) shows a variety of Hart tools at Walmart. Every single item on the shelf is priced at 3 cents.

“It’s all marked for 3 cents, and she’s telling me that I can’t have it for that price because it’s marked wrong,” Wilson says, referring to an employee. In the background, an employee can be heard telling Wilson that he’s not allowed to record in the store. Complete article

Walmart Just Recalled a Popular Drink in Canada—Here’s What to Know 12/15/2025

There’s an active recall on Great Value juice sold in Walmart locations across Canada, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).1 This is due to the presence of tartrate crystals.

The product being recalled is 1.82-liter bottles of Great Value 100% Grape Juice with UPC “6 81131 71323 8,” lot code “CT89-01” and best-by date printed as “2026 OC 08.”

If you have the affected beverage on hand, dispose of it or return to your local Walmart for a refund. Complete article

FDA warns Target, Walmart for selling baby formula linked to botulism 12/16/2025

The FDA also said Kroger and Albertsons had failed to comply with a recall of baby formula linked to an ongoing infant botulism outbreak.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration sent stern warning letters to Walmart, Target and other retail giants after its investigators found they had kept baby formula on store shelves even after the product had been recalled due to its links to an outbreak of infant botulism.

In letters released Monday, the FDA also warned Kroger and Albertsons about their continued sales of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula, which was linked to at least 51 cases of suspected or confirmed infant botulism across 19 states as of Dec. 10.

The FDA criticized Target’s response to the recall as inadequate, pointing out that the formula was sold with promotional discount signage more than two weeks after the first wave of recalls. It also said that Target, Walmart, Kroger and Albertsons failed to provide “any information demonstrating corrective actions” in numerous follow-up email exchanges initiated by the FDA after it held calls with the retailers to discuss the matter. A robocall scam is targeting hundreds of thousands of consumers each week, with fraudsters impersonating employees of Walmart in an effort to obtain people's personal information, according to a telecommunications security company and the Federal Communications Commission.

'What’s the Manufacturer Say?': Man Gets Walmart Oil Change. Then He Catches Them Upselling Him 12/18/2025

"Don't fall for this lie."

Nothing divides car people faster than oil-change intervals. A TikTok video from a Walmart parking lot managed to summon Boomers, Gen X wrench-turners, dealership techs, and the "I-run-15k-no-problem" crowd into a single, raging comments section, every last one of whom believes they’re right.

The clip from creator Burkey23 (@wordsofmotion) takes a firm stand on the view that quick oil change centers and the makers of automotive lubricants are all in cahoots to mislead motorists into getting an oil change more often than necessary. Fresh from an oil change at a local Walmart, he scoffs at the suggestion to plan his next visit upon reaching 3,000 more miles on the odometer.

"It's fine. It's synthetic oil. It can go up to 10,000 [miles]. Some can go up to 15,000," he said in the clip that’s been viewed more than 11,000 times. "Do not believe these lies that they give you. They're just trying to make more money." ......

Where the TikTok debate becomes interesting is that both sides are right and wrong, in different ways. Virtually every modern vehicle that specifies full synthetic oil also specifies a service interval far longer than 3,000 miles. Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Ford, Mazda, Volkswagen, and most major automakers list oil-change intervals between 7,500 and 10,000 miles under normal operating conditions. For example, Toyota’s maintenance schedule for many models using 0W-20 full synthetic explicitly calls for 10,000-mile intervals under everyday driving, while continuing to recommend 5,000-mile tire rotations and inspections between oil changes. The WalMart of public defense: How justice gets sold to the lowest bidder in rural California 12/18/2025 While defendants asked them to contest the prosecution’s evidence, to interview witnesses, to do anything, really, to challenge law enforcement’s narrative of the crime, they ushered almost all of them to plea deals instead, averaging just one jury trial for every 1,500 cases. The attorneys worked for Fitzgerald, Alvarez and Ciummo, the firm that San Benito paid to provide public defense. According to a 2024 state evaluation, they were not doing a good job. Two of the attorneys had inappropriate relationships with clients, another struggled with addiction. The situation had deteriorated so dramatically that the San Benito district attorney, Joel Buckingham, found himself worrying about the people his office was trying to send to prison. Their attorneys didn’t contest the evidence Buckingham’s prosecutors presented, no matter how it was obtained.

Police officer pleads to reduced charge in Ohio Walmart shoplifting case 12/19/2025

A Toledo police officer accused of shoplifting from a Walmart store in Holland twice in the spring entered a no-contest plea Friday morning to a reduced charge in Sylvania Municipal Court.

Gregory Long, Jr., 42, could be fined $250 and be sent to jail for 30 days for the fourth-degree misdemeanor count of unauthorized use of property. But after finding him guilty, Visiting Judge S. Dwight Osterud delayed sentencing after defense lawyer Larry DiLabbio requested a presentence investigation.

There is certainly a lot of information we can bring” to such an investigation, the lawyer said, with the judge then stating agreement.

Mr. Long, who was hired by the Toledo Police Department in July, 2018, has been on desk duty since he was charged Aug. 19 with two counts of first-degree misdemeanor theft, Mr. DiLabbio said, and also has been engaged with the police department’s employee-assistance program.

Holland police were summoned to Aug. 15 to the Walmart at 1355 S. McCord Rd. about a pair of past-offense thefts. Store officials said loss prevention workers at the Walmart on Glendale Avenue in South Toledo had advised them that Officer Long had stolen from that store and had also shopped at the Holland store.

When officials at the Holland store reviewed records, including surveillance video, they found a pair of apparent thefts by Officer Long, according to the investigative report. On May 22, while wearing a Toledo Police Department T-shirt with a badge logo on the front of the shirt, he failed to scan $1.97 worth of cheese at a self-checkout register and left the store without paying for it. On June 4, again at a self-checkout, he failed to scan cinnamon sticks and razor blades worth $28.92 and left without paying for them.

The plea agreement with Mr. Long includes a requirement that he pay restitution of $30.89 to Walmart.

Our community expects integrity and professionalism from every officer, and those expectations are non-negotiable,” police Chief Michael Troendle said in a statement at the time he was charged. “Any violation of that trust will be met with appropriate accountability. The department remains committed to transparency and to preserving the public’s trust and confidence. Complete article

‘Not Safe At All’: Walmart Worker Takes A Meat Thermometer To The Sausage, Pork, Turkey. What They Discover Is Disturbing 12/20/2025

Meat products need to be kept at a specific temperature to prevent spoilage. However, one Walmart worker decided to test several products at the store, discovering that the meat may not be safe.

In a post on the r/Walmart subreddit, Walmart worker u/Noboru16 posted 10 pictures of a refrigerated meat thermometer in several products, including prepackaged sausages, turkey wings, pork, and ham.

The worker explained that they took multiple readings of each product, with two hours between each. The next day, they took the temperature again.

The first picture shows the internal temperature of Italian sausages at 43.9 degrees F. Two hours later, the same sausage’s temperature rises to 44.5 degrees F. After another two hours pass, the sausages are 46.7 degrees F.

“I have brought up concerns of the bunker temping high but no one seems to want to do anything about it,” the post reads. “The thermostat says it’s 30°, but I have pointed out to management several times that even when the bunkers go down completely, the gauge doesn’t change at all.” Complete article

Dad who argued over 'baby wipes and money' during Fla. Walmart run before intentionally driving over his 8-month-old baby in the middle of an intersection is sentenced 12/19/2025

A Florida man who left his baby son in the middle of an intersection and ran him over with his truck will spend several decades behind bars.

Justin Golden, 21, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and aggravated manslaughter in September, months after he placed his 8-month-old son, Pablo, in the road and ran him over in his GMC truck. On Friday, a judge sentenced him to 30 years in prison, saying, "I have seen people exercise more care, caution and concern for a squirrel that darts into the roadway, a lizard that is on the hood of their car."

Golden read a statement in court in which he apologized and took full responsibility for the tragic crime, saying, "While I did not intend to kill my son, and had no criminal intent, I know that is not enough. I failed as his protector, as his father, and I was the monster who killed him."

As Law&Crime previously reported, Golden and Pablo's mother were making a trip to a Walmart store in Jacksonville, Florida, on the morning of Jan. 25, with the baby in tow. The couple began arguing while they were in Golden's truck and stopped at an intersection, reportedly about "baby wipes and money," according to an arrest affidavit.

Pablo's mother decided to end the fight by getting out of the stopped vehicle. In response, Golden said he "did not want to be responsible for the child" and took Pablo out of the truck, sitting him on the road while in the intersection. Golden then got back behind the wheel, closed the truck's door, and drove off, running over his baby son. Complete article

Lake County Fla. home to first city in state to allow Walmart drone delivery 12/20/2025

Dec. 9, Clermont’s city councilors voted 4-1 to approve two variances to allow the local Walmart to use drones for customer deliveries, making it the first Walmart zoning hub in Florida.

The proposal by Wing LLC for the Walmart Supercenter on Johns Lake Road would include an eight-foot fence to secure the drone area in two dedicated parts of the parking lot – one for goods to be auto-loaded, the other where drones will be stored. Wing LLC also applied for permission to store a shipping container on the property.

At the meeting, Wing LLC spokesman Eric Vaughan told the council that he had no idea if the drones would be allowed by the federal government to cross busy highways such as U.S. Hwy. 27 – which is next to the store – and Hwy. 50, both of which run through the middle of Clermont.

“The drones would carry only 2.4 pounds of cargo and would not land but lower merchandise by cable 25 feet off the ground,” said Vaughan. “The cameras would not have high-resolution cameras that could spy on sunbathers.

“Customers who must live within a six-mile radius of Walmart will use an app to designate where on the property they want their goods.”

Vaughan said that by mid-summer 2026, drones might be able to deliver double the payload. Complete article

New York woman buys $500 Walmart gift card for neighbors in Tampa. Then they try to redeem it: ‘This is war’ 12/25/2025

With grocery prices climbing year after year, a Walmart gift card can feel like one of the most practical gifts you can give a family.

You can buy food, household basics, school supplies, pretty much anything under one roof.

That was the thinking behind one New York woman’s Thanksgiving gift to her neighbors in Tampa. She wanted to help ease the pressure heading into the holidays.

Instead, she says the gift turned into a weeks-long mess involving broken systems, endless phone calls, and a $500 balance that no one could actually use. ......

Her neighbor went straight to Walmart to use the gift card for Thanksgiving groceries and was told it wouldn’t work. The system rejected it, flagging the expiration date, which showed a year far in the future, something like 2037. According to store employees, there was a maximum expiration window that the register would accept. .......

Claire says she started calling Walmart customer service and was quickly bounced between departments. The general support line sent her to the gift card line. The gift card line sent her to Mastercard. Mastercard sent her back to Walmart. ......

“That cannot be acceptable,” she says. “You sold me something that cannot be used.” Complete article

Anchorage Alaska PD records show thousands of police calls made from Midtown Walmart over two-year span 12/26/2025

The Midtown Walmart, located on A Street and Benson, has long been a magnet for Anchorage’s vagrant and homeless population. An investigation by the Landmine has revealed that those problems have resulted in thousands of calls to the Anchorage Police Department (APD) over a two-year period.

In October, the store was shut down after a man was shot and killed in the middle of the day. It’s common to see tents and people partying and drinking on the sidewalk of A Street not far from the entrance of the store.

Walking around in the parking lot or inside the store can feel more like being in a mental institution than shopping in the middle of Alaska’s largest city.

In September, the Landmine received a tip that Walmart management was threatening to close the store due to theft and constant disruption from vagrants. Walmart corporate later told the Landmine there are no plans to close the store. However, last month several Walmart executives were in town and met with city officials. It’s not clear why they were in town, but it doesn’t take a genius to assume it had something to do with the problems their store faces on a daily basis. Complete article

Does Walmart know when you steal from self-checkout? 12/17/2025

I didn’t take the time to read all the answers prior, but I know for a fact that my local Walmart has their cameras up in the ceilings that point down onto the self check out registers and they can tell if something you run across that scanner doesn’t scan or if it does.

I’ve heard of many people getting busted by just running the item across the scanner with the barcode up instead of down where It can scan it, even people trying to make the sound {beep}. (I’m just kidding about that one.) You better believe Walmart has the most high-tech security this side of Fort Knox. ......

This is actually a good question I actually just had a self checkout try to say that I was stealing stuff from Walmart just recently I had gone and swipe the same bottle of soda multiple times since I had four sodas of the same soda that I was buying well after doing that I put that bottle in the other bottles in the bag and the camera decided to take a picture of me and try to say that I was stealing them so it called an employee over who knew me and knew I wouldn't do that. Told the machine that it was wrong and she pointed out to me this happens sometimes. Complete article There have been plenty of false accusation claims, often proven in favor of the suspect; and there are also many times where they catch someone skip-scanning on video, follow up by checking previous electronic purchases on video, and have them arrested and charged for multiple cases, including many they previously got away with, but when they were caught they rechecked videos to add them on. It's hard to argue this isn't entrapment.

Shopper slams Walmart over concerning product change: 'Heading in the wrong direction' 12/28/2025

A Redditor shared a photo in the r/Anticonsumption subreddit showing a packaging change at Walmart. The retail giant seems to be swapping out its recyclable cardboard pasta boxes for plastic bags.

"Walmart is slowly swapping from cardboard to plastic packaging with their pasta," the Redditor captions the image that shows the two packaging options side by side.

While switching from cardboard to single-use plastic may make the packaging lighter, it's still not ideal for the planet for a few reasons.

First, cardboard boxes are fully recyclable, and most municipalities process cardboard in their recycling programs. Recyclable cardboard is often made from post-consumer materials, and it has a high recyclable success rate of 70%.

Second, Walmart recently announced a shift toward electric trucks for some deliveries, helping to reduce its carbon footprint and decrease its production of carbon pollution. Shipping fully-recyclable containers on pollution-free trucks is better for the planet virtually 100% of the time.

Using plastic means dirty energy sources are still involved in the product, since plastic is a byproduct of dirty energy. And while some single-use plastic bags can be recycled, not all can. These flimsy bags often tear, making them not an ideal reuse candidate. Plastic is also a leading ocean polluter, poisoning wildlife and exacerbating the overheating of our planet. Complete article

“Do you want a phone number that I can write down?” Ortiz is heard asking the man being detained, who identified himself as Emilio Moreno. “Give me a number of your family members.”

The woman then argues with a federal agent, who said they let families know.

“No, you don’t. You didn’t let my husband call. He’s in f– Mexico right now.”

“Well, that was a different case … He fought us,” the agent responds.

I think Walmart could get rid of skip-scanning by replacing self-checkout lanes with cashiers 12/30/2025

When is Walmart going to learn that ever since they decided to put in the Self-Service check-out lanes that a lot of people are going to try and beat the system?

I would think that some (?) people may have gotten away with a few items that weren’t scanned at the self-checkout registers, but the majority of people who have decided to not scan many items have not gotten away with it and are sitting in jail because of it.

The people who do try to get away with it are caught and prosecuted. Walmart created this problem on their own accord.

Think of amount of money it costs to pursue and prosecute these folks in the court systems today. It happens every day and at multiple locations.

Case in point, the Walmart located in Clermont, where every day you can read a news report about someone trying to get away without paying for the items and get caught doing so. Complete article

Walmart Drone Delivery Coming to Tampa Bay in 2026: Everything You Need to Know 12/29/2025

The future of shopping is arriving in Tampa Bay—literally through the air. Walmart has announced plans to bring ultra-fast drone delivery to Tampa and Orlando as part of the world’s largest drone delivery expansion, making Florida one of just five states where customers can receive their Walmart orders in 30 minutes or less via autonomous aircraft.

If you’ve been watching the skies and wondering when drone delivery would become a reality in Tampa Bay, the wait is almost over. Here’s everything Tampa Bay residents need to know about Walmart’s revolutionary drone delivery service coming to the area in early 2026.

What is Walmart Drone Delivery?

Walmart’s drone delivery service, operated in partnership with Wing Aviation (a Google affiliate company), allows customers to receive small packages from participating Walmart Supercenters in as little as 15-30 minutes. Instead of waiting hours or days for delivery, customers can order essential items through the Wing app and watch as an autonomous drone flies directly to their home.

The service represents a major leap forward in retail convenience and positions Walmart as the first major retailer to scale drone delivery across five states: Florida, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, and Arkansas.

When is Drone Delivery Coming to Tampa Bay?

According to Walmart and Wing Aviation’s joint announcement in June 2025, drone delivery will be available at Walmart Supercenters in Tampa and Orlando by mid-2026. The service officially launched in Atlanta in December 2025 and will roll out to additional markets including Tampa, Orlando, Charlotte, Houston, and other major metropolitan areas throughout 2026.
