Walmart had at least nine more shooting last month, with three of them fatal killing four people, two of those people were teenage brothers killed in the same incident. Two of those were officer involved shootings where they killed a man with a rifle or gun. All but one of the shootings resulted in injuries; two of them were accidental with the shooter hitting himself. There were at least eleven additional gun related crimes. At least three of them were armed robberies, and half of them were arguments, often petty, that led to people pulling guns, others may have been possession of illegal guns.
In addition to the four people killed in shootings there were six bodies found on the premises, including another two older brothers found no more than a day or to from the brothers killed in a shooting; two deaths as a result of automobile accidents, one that took place four months ago and he died from the injuries this month; and a thirteenth death as a result of a stabbing. Most of the bodies found at Walmart don't involve what the police consider foul play, although the two brothers might be an exception. This isn't their highest death toll, but it's in the top ten, if not top five for a month.
Another long letter was found in Walmart merchandise from an abused worker claiming she was wrongfully convicted and forced to do slave labor for decades. There have been dozens of these letters found over the years, a few have proven to be legitimate, and a couple were proven to be faked to draw attention to a legitimate problem with slave labor or abusive sweatshops. Officially Walmart and other large organizations say they have standards to prevent abuses like this; but their standards almost never work; and they routinely lobby against policies that enable human rights organizations to check the factories to prevent abuse. Oligarchs lobby for "free trade zones" where scrutiny is virtually nonexistent, trade laws allowing them to constantly move their factories any where they want without tariffs to take advantage of sweatshop labor and lack of environmental regulations, and trade secrecy laws that make accountability impossible.
There's no doubt that their industry standards are for propaganda purposes only, and that they want plausible deniability. Furthermore, when they shut down almost all American manufacturing and ship them to places where they could suppress wages the most, driving wages down at home and abroad, they eliminated efficient factory direct options that were far more efficient than our current system, which ships subsidized cotton half way around the world to take advantage of slave labor before shipping it back through complicated distribution system.
The reason for our economic system isn't efficiency or because it delivers the best quality at the lowest price; it's because it allows centralized oligarchy control of every thing enabling the wealthy to take a cut out of everything and squeeze both consumers and workers.
Another correctional officer was caught shoplifting from Walmart, and immediately lose their job; if they abuse prisoners or if police abuse civilians the unions fight tooth and nail to protect their jobs no matter how strong the evidence, but if they commit petty theft against oligarch, they get fired quickly. They had another customer cause a panic by making dangerous threats and causing an evacuation, a third was jailed for pouring chemicals on a woman.
A large amount of Walmart insanity continues to be about the pandemic including more "COVIDiots" giving "Covid Hugs" and taking temper tantrums about new policies, with one customer saying Walmart workers served "Satan." One Walmart worker claimed she was fired for reporting noncompliance with health measures, another one was involved in fraud for using funds intended to go for prevention, and a Colorado Walmart was accused of not sanitizing all the carts after someone filmed them. Both supporters of masks and opponents of them have started fights over them; and there's exaggeration in both directions driving people crazy.
In addition to the two people killed in accidents there were at least fifteen more major automobile crimes including at least four of five stolen vehicles, one which crashed, and four or five police chases, one involving a stolen vehicle. It's not uncommon for these police chases to be over petty theft, although at least one of them this month was for a bigger theft. One of their security guards, who also happened to be a local councilman, was almost hit by a shoplifter that tried to run him over and was charged with attempted murder; another security guard, at a different store, hit a man then lied about it. There were several more crashes and at least one more hit and run, along with a robbery of a woman who gave someone a ride to Walmart.
In addition to the fatal stabbing there were at least three more knife related crimes including an assault on an officer, another threat to a customer, and a stolen knife. In some cases when armed robbers commit their robberies, if they don't have a weapon they steal it. There were also several fires, including one arson, a small fire and a much bigger one just across from Walmart.
They also had a robber who rode his bike right into the store to steal alcohol and get out quick; purse thefts, drug busts, dognappers, assaults on workers, customers and cops, and, of course bomb threats. Walmart wouldn't be the same without bomb threats, but they're almost all fake, so they often don't pay much attention. Police refuted a child abduction claim, and I didn't see any reports of real child abduction cases; but they're more common than the fake one, often with two or three each month, although I don't recall many since the pandemic began, related or not. There was another story of a missing person that may be far more serious; he was last seen at Walmart and may have gotten into a vehicle with a stranger.
Walmart had at least four recalls or public health alerts, one of onions because of salmonella; this was expanded to include salads which contained the onions, apparently it sickened more than 500 people, although the figure may be much higher if others were unaware of it and didn't report their sickness; another for peaches, also part of a salmonella outbreak; and a health alert for taquito, which may have sickened people, although they avoided calling it a recall.
PETA scheduled at least three protests based on new disclosures showing that egg producers were abusing chickens, and that they were held in dirty conditions, which may impact the safety of the products. Walmart was involved in at least five major law suits including two that were settled for large amounts, one about discrimination and another about overcharging for meat. Many of the people that were overcharged may not even know they're entitled to refunds though. At least two other new suits were filed against them and they're constantly bickering with towns across the country to lower their tax bills, despite the fact that part of the way they drove businesses out paid higher taxes. Walmart has proven to be a major drain on local cities having to shift the tax burden elsewhere, due to their political power, occasionally bankrupting the. Raytown Missouri is one of the most extreme cases, where they negotiated lower taxes, wiped out businesses paying higher taxes, and had increased crime at their store, which the town couldn't afford to police.
Walmart already has partnerships with dozens, if not hundreds of other larges oligarchs, and they're creating at least three more with Casinos, Yahoo, and TikTok. There should be no doubt that the so-called "free enterprise" system, where companies compete against each other was eliminated years, if not decades, ago and it's been replaced with an oligarchy system with little or no accountability. They also have top management coming and going that previously worked for other oligarchs or are leaving Walmart to work with other oligarchs, with a clear conflict of interest, showing that jobs at the top are reserved for a small percentage of elites not necessarily based on merit or looking out for customers or workers best interests.
One shoplifting suspect who tried to steal almost $1,000 worth of DVDs said he did so because "a lot of people get away with it," which sounds funny, and appears to be an incredibly lame excuse; however he's right! People have been walking out of Walmart with entire shopping carts full for years, thanks to their corner cutting and poor store design among other things. There were a couple other stories just this month about one man that walked out with five TVs and another where "Bold thieves" stole thousands of dollars of electronics from three Tennessee Walmarts. They often get caught on camera and police search for them after the fact, but many more almost certainly go unnoticed. Tax payers get stuck with a large portion of the bill to chase these people down and keep them in jail, yet they don't ask Walmart to stop their corner cutting or bear the price.
Another man broke in to Walmart after they were closed wearing a plastic bag on his head presumably as a disguise; but he didn't seem to plan very well, since he removed it several times, probably on camera, possibly so he could breath or see better. A few teens drank part of juice bottles before putting them back on the shelves. This has happened numerous times before, and most of them probably went unnoticed and were never reported in the media.
Another snake that may have been close to six feet long went shopping at a Texas Walmart. I still don't see why they don't welcome business from animals, but they had him removed from the premises.
Animals, including snakes rarely do as much damage as people including one that went through Walmart wearing only his underwear and his face-mask, punching a Walmart employee and one other person and stripping down to his birthday suit before he was done.
Walmart also had "a godly man" who was outraged that he was asked to wear a mask or leave, yelling at employees saying, “Get back on your highway to hell, and get out of a godly man’s face!” ..... “Are you exercising your rights as a private company to take away my rights?” and “Please return to your service of Satan in your ignorant belief you are right.”
My best guess is that even many religious people and opponents of masks don't think this is the way to respond. What kind of God wants people bickering over many things so petty, and can't find the time to say this isn't what he meant?
Strange things happen at Walmart!
In 2006 Wake Up Walmart did a study, "Is Walmart Safe?" based on incidents in 2004, (PDF) about crime at Walmart which showed that it increased when Walmarts opened up and that crime was higher at Walmart than at other retailers. Since then Walmart Shootings began compiling a list of gun related incidents at Walmart and demonstrated that they have a large number of them, including on average more than one shooting per week somewhere in the country; now after counting them for several years that average is over two per week. In January of 2014 another study, "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" provided additional statistical research indicating that Walmart might be contributing to higher crime rates or at least a slowing of the decline in crime. The study found that. “on average, communities with Walmarts had 17 more property crimes and two more violent crimes per 10,000 people than those communities without Walmarts.” I reviewed this more in Walmart’s crime problem, Rolling Back Safety more than prices? where I explained that although this study is helpful they could have done better with additional data that is available and I reviewed some of that. I also added my own review about why I think that Walmart policies have been contributing to higher crime in a previous blog, Walmart high crime rate continues un-investigaterd and have provided additional information under the author tag Walmart Crime Watch.
Stacy Mitchell has also compiled a list of other studies about Walmart and how they impact society, Key Studies on Big-Box Retail & Independent Business. To the best of my knowledge Walmart has done as little as they seem to get away with, often relying on rhetoric that isn't backed up with action, when it comes to addressing any of their critics concerns, including crime. One of the responses they’ve come up with is what they call "Restorative Justice" which gives first time shoplifters a chance to avoid being arrested or any criminal record if they take an on line course which costs $400 up front or $500 in payments, plus perhaps, reparations. This has been part of the privatization process and often denies suspects of the due process or access to a lawyer, perhaps even intimidating and extorting from some people that might not even be guilty. Walmart seems to be trying to find a way to turn crime into a profit making situation instead of looking for the most effective ways to reduce it. According to the "Is Walmart Safe?" the average store in their sampling had 250 incidents per year indicating that these are only a fraction of the crime reports at Walmart, and presumably, the ones most likely to make the news on the internet nationwide. This isn't statistically representative, as the 2006 or the "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" study or some of the studies cited by Stacy Mitchell; but it does provide some additional information that may help recognize how many problems there are at Walmart.

If Walmart is allowed to remain in our community, then the future of Owasso is uncertain at best. Within two years of Walmart stores opening in the struggling west side of Chicago, over 82 local stores went out of business, according to a landmark study done by Loyola University. Likewise, here in our hometown, instead of growing our retail economy, Walmart just simply overtook it, shuttering multiple businesses.
The retail giant doesn’t bring new jobs, it brings unemployment and poverty. In 2008, the Journal of Urban Economics published a study that examined about 3,000 Walmart store openings nationally and found that each store caused a net decline of about 150 jobs. Another study done by Puget Sound Sage stated that each new store decreases the local community’s economic output over 20 years by an estimated $13 million. The research also discovered that each store costs the community an additional $14 million in lost wages over the 20 years.
We must start shopping local. For our prescriptions, we need to start shopping at our area pharmacies. For our plants, we must start shopping at our nurseries. For our gasoline, we need to start shopping from our gas stations. And for our tools, auto parts and everything else, we must start shopping at our businesses to save our communities. A police pursuit that ended at Walmart led to numerous people reporting a shooter in the area, but those reports were false.
GLOUCESTER, Va. — Panic and confusion resulted in reports of an active shooter at a Gloucester Walmart, but deputies say such reports were false and nobody was injured on Monday.
The incident began around 4 p.m. when a sheriff's deputy reportedly saw a man driving a Honda SUV come to a stop on Justice Drive and begin to spray something on a speed limit sign.
The deputy approached the suspect, who then allegedly sped off at a high rate of speed.
A police pursuit began, and the suspect drove to the Walmart parking lot, where deputies say he got out holding a knife. Several bystanders were in the area, but the pursuing officers were able to subdue the man without anyone getting hurt. Complete article

Willie James Lewis, 37, of Oakwood, is accused of pouring the chemical, believed to be a cleaning solution, on a 49-year-old Palestine woman’s upper body and face while she was with two small children in the store. She told police she did not know Lewis, who had fled after the incident, according to the Palestine Police Department.
The woman was transported to the Palestine Regional ER by ambulance for medical treatment.
While the police officers were investigating, Lewis returned to Walmart and followed an officer to the front of the store. He is accused of using a shopping cart to attack the officer from behind. Complete article

A shoplifting suspect at Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages said he attempted to steal nearly $1,000 worth of DVDs because “a lot of people get away with it.”
Adam Eric Kamerow, 38, of Leesburg, entered the store on Sunday and removed $989.35 worth of DVDs from the shelves in the electronics department, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He went to the luggage department and then the men’s clothing section where he began pulling Wal-Mart bags from his pocket. He put the DVDs in the bags and left the store.
A loss prevention officer attempted to stop Kamerow outside the store, but Kamerow dropped the DVDs and ran away. He drove out of the parking lot, but was stopped near Cornerstone Hospice on County Road 466. A deputy took the Wal-Mart loss prevention officer to the traffic stop and the loss prevention officer positively identified Kamerow.
“Mr. Kamerow stated he knew he stole the DVDs and did so because a lot of people get away with it from Wal-Mart,” the deputy wrote in the arrest report. Complete article

The USDA issued a public health alert over a not-food-in-your-food situation involving beef taquitos, chicken taquitos, beef chimichangas and Walmart, among other stores.
Ajinomoto Foods makes those products, which are sold under the Jose Ole’, Casa Mamita and Great Value (Walmart’s house label) brands. They contain diced green chilies from Sun Valley Foods and, apparently, possibly also plastic.
The USDA says Ajinomoto “identified pieces of hard plastic in their production process and in a barrel of diced green chilies that was received from ... Sun Valley Foods.”
Sun Valley Foods recalled the diced green chilies, a move that could trigger recalls of several other products that use the chilies.
As for the products in this alert, they haven’t been officially recalled. But the USDA recommends consumers toss them out or return them to the store for a refund, the same direction the agency gives for a recalled product. Complete article

San Jose, Calif. – On Tuesday, a “debeaked chicken” will lead PETA supporters in a spirited protest outside a local Walmart store to urge the company to reconsider its relationship with supplier Trillium Farm Holdings, whose eggs Walmart sells under its Great Value brand. The protest comes after a PETA undercover investigation of one of Trillium’s farms in Ohio revealed widespread, severe abuse of laying hens. Protesters will hold signs proclaiming, “Hens Crammed in With Rotting Corpses” and “Gassed. Decapitated. Left for Dead,” and showing images from the investigation.

The investigation showed hundreds of dead hens, many of whom were left to decompose alongside the survivors in small, cramped cages. In one incident, PETA’s investigator found a severely injured bird still alive in a trash bin. A supervisor had clumsily attempted but failed to kill the hen then let her languish for two more days before another worker finally killed her. Yet another worker was seen pulling a live hen’s head off. Birds had no place to stand, sit, or lie down except on the bare wire flooring of the cages, and many were missing feathers, often the result of stress-induced self-mutilation or fighting, as each bird had less than a square foot of space. BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (KLFY) — Police Chief Rollie Cantu said a man captured on video punching a 72-year-old Walmart employee on Wednesday was issued an OPC (order of protective custody) and taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
30-year-old Kendrick Zenon of Breaux Bridge was casually walking around the Rees Street Walmart in a full black mask, boxer shorts and no shirt when he became combative and allegedly struck the victim in the face, Cantu said.
In the video, Cantu said, after the hit , the victim is seen stumbling and falls to the ground.
He is immediately assisted and brought back to his feet by multiple co-workers and shoppers, Cantu said.
Before he left the store, Cantu said, Zenon then stripped down to his ‘birthday suit’ and allegedly assaulted a second victim, this time a 68-year-old man, before running out of the store. Complete article

Yelm Police and Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies chased a stolen vehicle through rural back roads Wednesday night.
Around 8:15 p.m., the Yelm Police Department was notified of a man and a woman walking around the Yelm Walmart, believed by employees to be shoplifting. The woman was seen carrying a large bag that police believed she was using to stash items.

He pleaded guilty to one count of bank fraud and four counts of false statements to a financial institution before U.S. District Judge Claire V. Eagan of the Northern District of Oklahoma. Sentencing has been scheduled for Nov. 4.
Hayford is accused of filing fraudulent bank loan applications seeking more than $8 million in forgivable Paycheck Protection Program loans guaranteed by the U.S. Small Business Administration under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.
Hayford admitted he sought millions of dollars in forgivable loans from multiple banks by claiming fictitious payroll expenses. There is a lot of argument about how the November election should be handled. Democrats are afraid that there will be virus infections as a result of co-mingling at the polls. They want wholesale mail-in voting. Republicans are afraid of mail-in votes since there could be fraud and election theft.
I have the perfect solution. Let’s do our voting at Walmart. Big box stores seem to be virus-safe and everybody already knows how to get there. A man is facing a felony assault charge after a police officer was injured outside of a Walmart Neighborhood Market, court documents say.
Springfield police officers arrived at the 444 W. Grand Ave. location on Aug. 6 where they found Michael King, 32, reportedly trespassing. He allegedly was connected to past stealing incidents there, according to a probable cause statement.
When police asked King for his name, he said it was "Michael Pain" and then told them a social security number that belonged to someone else. After realizing that King gave them false information, police attempted to place him in handcuffs. King began resisting and attempted to turn away from the officers, court documents stated.
Two officers used their body weight to take King to the ground and he fell on his right side and back with his hands clenched to his chest. During the fall, one officer landed on top of King and yelled out in pain. He reported it was a stabbing pain; however, after being examined, no stab wounds were found, according to the probable cause statement. Complete article

But even those of us who love this grocery store aren't likely to pick Walmart because we think its products are sustainably sourced. Yet in 2016, Walmart outlined a roadmap that it said would flesh out details for a sustainability agenda, with action items that included doubling sales of produce locally grown in the U.S., looking to sustainably source 20 commodities including bananas, coffee, and tea by 2025.
As part of that initiative, the supermarket now says it is ready to move in a direction where it will be able to source fresh beef products sustainably by that same deadline. In a blog announcing the beef initiative, Walmart says, "We aspire to source our fresh beef products more sustainably by 2025, including prioritizing soil health, animal welfare and responsible use of antibiotics. We will continue working with suppliers to improve grain sourcing and grazing management practices across a total of 12 million acres (or more than nine million football fields)... We expect our suppliers will not tolerate animal abuse of any kind and support our position on the judicious use of antibiotics in farm animals." Complete article

A River Ridge man allegedly used his car to try to run over a Kenner City Council member who is a retired police officer and still works a security detail at Walmart, authorities said.
Thomas Nasser, 36, faces counts of attempted first-degree murder, hit-and-run driving and resisting police after he allegedly tried to drive over longtime Council member Mike Sigur, who confronted Nasser during a purported shoplifting.
Nasser went to the Walmart in the 8900 block of Veterans Memorial Boulevard on Aug. 5 with a friend, whom he dropped off, police said in an affidavit. Nasser was waiting in the parking lot in his truck when his friend returned to the vehicle, jumped in, and shouted, “Go go go,” the affidavit said.
An unidentified police officer in full uniform ordered Nasser to stop, but Nasser backed up, struck a curb, put the truck in drive, and headed toward the officer, the affidavit alleged.
Though the officer is not named in the report, Kenner Police Lt. Michael Cunningham confirmed that it was Sigur. Complete article

After a chase that began on State Route 507 in McKenna on Wednesday evening, Aug. 5, and continued over hilly backroads in Pierce County, Yelm police with the help of Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies arrested one woman on suspicion of third-degree theft and third-degree trespassing. Officers are still searching for her male companion.
The man is suspected of possessing a stolen vehicle, recklessly endangering the woman and her unborn child, third-degree theft and driving with a suspended license.
The eventful night began at 8:17 p.m. when two Yelm police officers responded to a report from Yelm Walmart asset-protection employees that a woman in the store was concealing items — a precursor, they believed, to shoplifting. The woman was seen carrying a “huge purse” that police believed was used to hide stolen items. She was accompanied by a man who appeared to be in his 30s wearing Seattle Seahawks’ pants.
The man and woman left the store at about 8:20 p.m. and entered a silver Dodge Durango without license plates. The woman was wearing the pair of leggings Walmart employees confirmed had been stolen. A Yelm police officer arrived about a minute later and activated his emergency lights as the vehicle left the Walmart parking lot and headed onto State Route 507 north towards McKenna. “Hundreds of thousands, if not millions” of consumers who purchased clearance meats from Walmart since Feb. 15, 2015, could be eligible for refunds, according to a settlement notice filed in U.S. District Court in Miami.
Vassilios Kukorinis, who lives in Hillsborough County, sued Walmart in federal court last year after noticing that the per-pound clearance price advertised on soon-to-be-expired meat wasn’t what the retailer actually used when calculating the final price to consumers.
Kukorinis’ attorneys determined consumers were overcharged by $1.67 per purchase.
Terms of the settlement call for Walmart to establish a settlement fund of at least $4.5 million and up to $9.5 million if enough consumers claim refunds. Complete article

He was observed getting into the vehicle and driving away with it.
The second suspect wearing a neon yellow #31 sleeveless shirt, black shorts, black shoes and red mask was with the suspect but did not participate in the theft. AMMON — Online rumors about an alleged kidnapping might not be what they seem.
On Wednesday, a highly circulated Facebook post, which has now been hidden by the original poster, described a teenage girl allegedly getting kidnapped by an older man while she was screaming for help behind the Ammon Walmart.
But since the reported incident, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office has not had any reports of missing or injured people matching the description of the man and woman.
Deputy reports show at around 1 p.m. deputies and Idaho Falls Police officers were called to the Ammon Walmart. Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. AMMON — Online rumors about an alleged kidnapping might not be what they seem.
On Wednesday, a highly circulated Facebook post, which has now been hidden by the original poster, described a teenage girl allegedly getting kidnapped by an older man while she was screaming for help behind the Ammon Walmart.
But since the reported incident, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office has not had any reports of missing or injured people matching the description of the man and woman.
Deputy reports show at around 1 p.m. deputies and Idaho Falls Police officers were called to the Ammon Walmart. Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. On Wednesday, Aug. 5, Globe Police Officers were dispatched to Walmart in Globe, Ariz. in reference to a shoplifting incident. During the investigation, a female subject was contacted and found to be in possession of narcotic pills. Further investigation revealed she was accompanied by a male subject who was waiting for her outside.
Globe Police Officers conducted a consensual encounter with the male subject in the Walmart parking lot. During the encounter, indicators of criminal activity were observed and the male subject admitted to possessing additional contraband include illegal drugs.
As a result of the encounter, approximately 54.5 grams of Methamphetamine, 159 narcotic pills and two firearms were seized. Officers also located a large amount of drug paraphernalia and evidence of illegal drug sales within the vehicle. Complete article

Why a photo taken at Walmart terrified me 08/14/2020
Today a friend posted a photo of a church that went to worship in an open Walmart since church buildings were closed in their town due to the pandemic. In the photo, worshipers were seen standing rather close together and seemed to be taking up a lot of space.
I can only judge from one photo, but this put a lot of people in an indoor space who didn’t need to be there. And it disrupted those who were at Walmart for essential tasks. Plus, it inconsiderately extended the indoor, public time of those there for other reasons — putting them more at risk than they bargained for that day since they had to navigate more people.
I know these well-meaning people only wanted to show their love for God. And, sadly, this isn’t the worst form of churches insisting on gathering. But this pandemic has shown us there are other creative options for Christian worship that don’t risk harming others. Complete article

Weslaco, Texas (KVEO)—Weslaco police department says a man is dead following a possible confrontation with a customer at Walmart Supercenter on North Texas Boulevard.
During a press conference, Weslaco police chief Joel Rivera said a call came in around 3 p.m. in reference to a man with a riffle wearing all black.
“We believe the suspect entered the Walmart through the north side entrance, had a confrontation with a customer and ended up pointing the weapon towards the customer” said Rivera.
The suspect then headed to the back of the store where he encountered police.
Police then gave the suspect orders to throw the rifle to the ground, which he did. But, as officers gave him orders to show his hands, he got a handgun.
According to the officers, the man seemed distraught and it is believed he might have had a medical condition.
Rivera said officers tried to resolve the situation with the less than lethal method, when the suspect shot at officers.
The officers then shot back, killing the man. His identity was not revealed during the press conference. Complete article

A Summerfield man found himself behind bars Sunday after a nasty battle over a Facebook post came to a head in the fruit and vegetable section of the Summerfield Wal-Mart.
The victim told sheriff’s deputies that he was shopping in the store, located at 17961 S. Hwy. 27/441, with his family when he spotted 33-year-old Brett Maurice Pitchford in the produce section. He said he didn’t recognize Pitchford until he started speaking to him. He said Pitchford told him, “You know I am still going to (expletive deleted) you up,” a sheriff’s office report states.
The victim said he told Pitchford to “do what you have to do” and then started to walk past him. He claimed Pitchford them struck him in the back of his head and knocked him to the ground, the report says.
A Wal-Mart employee working in the produce area told deputies that he heard Pitchford say something about placing photos of his residence on Facebook. He said he heard the victim say, “(Expletive deleted) take your best shot.” He said he then saw Pitchford strike the victim in his head, so he grabbed him and pulled him away from the area, the report says. The fire began shortly before 12:30 p.m. with a report of black smoke coming from the outdoor portion of the garden center, located in the 2200 block of South Bradley Road, according to Santa Maria Fire spokesman Mike Farmer.
The first Santa Maria Fire unit arrived on scene within a matter of minutes, quickly locating the blaze before it was put out in the rear portion of the outdoor space between Walmart's main store and the Neighborhood Market store. The extent of the damage wasn't immediately known. Complete article

According to the lawsuits, Walmart and CVS allegedly supplied more opioids to their retail pharmacies than needed to meet a legitimate market. Morrisey says the companies also allegedly ordered additional pills from other distributors to fulfill demand.
According to Morrisey, Walmart and CVS were each among the state’s top 10 opioid distributors from 2006 to 2014.
The lawsuits allege Walmart and CVS knowingly continued to sell, ship and profit from the highly dangerous and addictive prescription painkillers, violated the state’s Consumer Credit and Protection Act and caused a public nuisance. Complete article

Walmart reported Tuesday that U.S. comparable sales rose 9.3% from a year earlier in the period ended July 31, far surpassing analysts’ estimates. The growth was powered by its e-commerce division, where sales jumped 97% from a year earlier, with both pickup and delivery options notching all-time high sales volumes. The robust growth also reflected a 27% increase in average ticket, or the total bill, as people consolidated their shopping into fewer trips.
While Walmart continued to see healthy growth in its grocery segment, an important component of its battle with Amazon.com Inc, its strongest sales increases in the U.S. division were in general merchandise, with shoppers shelling out for sporting goods, gardening gear and electronics. HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Hendersonville police are on the hunt for three suspects that hit three Walmart stores stealing thousands of dollars in electronics.
Detectives said the three thieves first hit the Walmart on North Anderson Lane in Hendersonville Monday night around 8:30 p.m.
Detective Jacob Sprouls said they first took backpacks to load up with stolen merchandise.
“The female distracted one of the employees in the electronics section while the other 2 males used a pry bar to break into a glass case,” he explained.
The group targeted AirPods and iPads, he said.
“They stole multiple Apple AirPods and also the iPads and as they were running out of the store one of the clerks confronted them and they dropped a lot of the items, left some of the items behind, but they still got away with almost $6,000 dollars worth of merchandise.” Complete article

GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A suspicious backpack at the Grants Pass Walmart led to the arrest of a wanted felon out of Colorado. Grants Pass Department of Public Safety reported late Wednesday night that they got a call from Walmart employees about an abandoned backpack with a firearm and several ammunition magazines inside.
Police said they then got another call about a man who came into the store, agitated and yelling, claiming to be the owner of the backpack. That man was identified as 37 year old Todd Allan Word from Colorado. Police said Word was connected to a home burglary reported over the weekend and has a felony warrant out of Colorado, as well as an extensive criminal history. Police said Word tried to run when they arrived. They were able to get him into custody after a struggle in the parking lot.
During that struggle, police said a woman identified as Word’s girlfriend drove up to them and started to approach. Police discovered two children in the vehicle she was driving. She was detained for questioning as officers were unsure if she was involved in this incident or the previous burglary. She was ultimately released as the case is being investigated. Complete article

FARGO — As a master aesthetician, Annette Rasile has purchased thousands of wooden craft sticks over the years. The sticks, which resemble those used in Popsicles, are used for the waxing services she provides. But in early July, something unusual happened when she opened the box she purchased from Walmart.
“I was surprised,” said Rasile. “I’ve bought so many craft sticks in my life, and this is the first time that there was a folded package of letters inside.”
While she might have initially assumed the papers were instructions from the manufacturer, it became pretty clear that wasn’t the case.
“There was nothing professional looking about it,” she said. “It was five pages long with handwritten Chinese writing from top to bottom.” ........
Rasile ended up posting the letters on Facebook, asking for translation help. At this point, the two posts she wrote looking for translation help have been shared a total of 50 times. And it worked. A woman who knows Mandarin Chinese was able to give her the gist of what the letter said.
“It's a woman who is saying she's wrongly imprisoned for a crime she didn't commit,” Rasile said. “She talks about family, and it sounded like she was framed for political reasons or for something about relationships.”
The letter indicates that the woman's original sentence was 15 years. It says in jail, her sentence was increased to life without commutation and release. The sentence was increased because she didn’t confess guilt or repent. She wanted to appeal. It seems that her increased sentence was conducted secretly. ........
In an investigative report published on Vox, Li Quian, the founder and executive director of China Labor Watch, says American companies can place their orders directly to factories, but those factories can, in turn, transfer orders to prisons without the company’s knowledge.
The letters Americans have received over the past handful of years, which spell out the abuses prison workers face, including long hours with no food or water and getting beaten for not finishing their work, can be written by the inmates themselves or human rights activists trying to raise awareness about the problem. SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – Spartanburg Police Department officials said a man was taken into custody at an area Walmart Thursday after he reportedly attacked an off-duty police officer inside the store.
According to a news release, officers were called to Walmart, located at 141 Dorman Centre Drive, located within the The Dorman Centre shopping center, at around 1:30 p.m. on a call about a disturbance and a fight.
While officers were responding to the scene, the call was upgraded to an officer down call.
Police said Spartanburg County E911 said that the officer was being attacked by a suspect in the store.
“When officers arrived on scene, witnesses stated a man attacked the officer for no apparent reason. The man was brandishing a knife during the attack,” according to the release.The officer was knocked to the ground and punched several times. Citizens and employees were able to help the officer by pulling the man away. The officer was transported to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. The condition of the officer is not known at this time.”
According to the release, the off-duty officer was working security for Walmart. ......
Police said the man, later identified as James Ray Cunningham, 22, of Woodruff, then got into the back of a black vehicle parked at the bottom of the parking lot.

Cheketa McKnight-Nero, who filed the proposed class action in June, is seeking to represent a class of potentially thousands of immunocompromised Walmart shoppers who allege the retail giant has a discriminatory practice of using security guards to decide who does or does not qualify as disabled or immunocompromised, according to Thursday's motion.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Walmart has designated exclusive shopping times, usually early in the morning, for elderly, disabled and immunocompromised people to do their shopping while the store is less busy in order to prevent them from coming into contact with more people than necessary, according to the motion.
McKnight-Nero, who is diabetic and has a rare blood cancer, among other illnesses, is considered immunocompromised and at a higher risk of contracting COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus, according to her complaint. Knowing Walmart had special hours for people with impaired immune systems, she went to a D.C. location in May, but said she was turned away by the security guard.

A Russellville man has been charged after a shooting in the parking lot of the Hopkinsville Walmart on Clinic Drive Sunday afternoon.
Hopkinsville Police say 60-year-old James Martin shot the father of his grandchild 32-year-old Wesley Beach of Hopkinsville hitting him in the chest and causing the bullet to travel through his arm during a custody exchange just before 4 pm.
The two men started to argue after Martin reportedly grabbed the child during the exchange.
Police say Beach was able to get to his vehicle and get a gun and return fire. Martin suffered injuries from glass breaking out of a car window but was not hit by gunfire.
Beach was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and where he was treated and released.
Martin’s gun was reported stolen out of Iowa. He is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment and, receiving stolen property. Complete article

Police say Beach was able to get to his vehicle and get a gun and return fire. Martin suffered injuries from glass breaking out of a car window but was not hit by gunfire.
Beach was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and where he was treated and released.

According to Hooksett police, around 10:26 a.m. on Aug. 20 an officer was patrolling the area of Commerce Drive, when he saw a black Honda whose owner had multiple no bail electronic bench warrants from Hillsborough County District Court.
The owner, identified as Anthony Caperci, 23, of Manchester, was located in the parking lot. After confirming his identity, police said Caperci ran through the parking lot and into Walmart. A perimeter was set up and Caperci was later found hiding behind a Dumpster after exiting the store through a fire door.

Walmat Inc. and Tribeca Film Festival will partner to host the Walmart Drive-in, a series of free drive-in movie screenings across the country. The retail giant announced the initiative on July 1, then followed up with more details Aug. 5.
Walmart Drive-in will temporarily turn 160 of the retail giant’s U.S. Supercenter parking lots into contact-free drive-in movies. TheWalmartDriveIn.com has specific dates, store locations and films for each stop of the movie tour, which runs through Oct. 21. Tickets for the pop-up events are free, but advance registration through the website is required. The tour will visit Supercenters in Northwest Arkansas the week of Sept. 15-23.
The drive-in movie experience is making a comeback this summer due to COVID-19 and social distancing measures. It’s the subject of a cover story in the current issue of the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal’s sister publication, Northeast Arkansas Talk Business & Politics.

Police discovered twin brothers dead in a vehicle in the Du Quoin Walmart parking lot early Sunday morning.

28-year-old Anntionette Webb was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after following a vehicle and brandishing a handgun at its occupants.
On August 7th, Crystal Zahirovic and Jessica Stamps were driving in Ms. Zahirovic’s vehicle on Doveside Drive entering Walmart at 3458 Dickerson Pike. Antionette Webb was in a vehicle behind them at the stop sign and began honking her horn at them when they stopped at the sign. Zahirovic explained she continued to drive into the parking lot when Webb drove around her nearly colliding with Zahirovic’s vehicle to get her to stop.
Webb followed them into the parking lot and pulled up next to them. Zahirovic explained she tried to talk to the woman, but she was too irate. Webb pulled out a black handgun, waved it around and pointed it at Zahirovic and Stamps. Webb then left and Zahirovic called the police. Officers spoke with Webb after they arrived and she claimed she never pointed a gun at anyone even though she admitted to having one. Mark A. Domino, who is charged with resisting arrest and obstructing a law enforcement officer, is also making another attempt to get his charges dismissed. He plans to appear for a 3 p.m. hearing today at Asotin County District Court.
Domino was arrested in June 2019 after police were called about a suspected vehicle prowler at Walmart. Domino, who works at the store, had opened the doors of his wife’s car before walking to his motorcycle, where he was detained by Clarkston police. Complete article

Vancouver – On Wednesday, a “chicken” will lead PETA supporters in a spirited protest outside a local Walmart store to urge the company to reconsider its relationship with supplier Trillium Farm Holdings, whose eggs Walmart sells under its Great Value brand. The protesters will hold signs proclaiming, “Hens Crammed in With Rotting Corpses,” and screen footage from a PETA undercover investigation of one of Trillium’s farms in Ohio revealing widespread, severe abuse of laying hens.

We reached out to Walmart for information on their tax appeal twice, but they did not provide a response. Waara says they are requesting their value be lowered by around $10 per square foot.
“With where they’re at right now their value is about 49 dollars per square foot,” said Waara. “I believe their last offer they gave us was somewhere around 32 or 33 dollars per square foot which is a considerable loss and when you get down to numbers, in a year’s time that’s well over 100000 dollars.”
When the store initially filed for a lower taxable value, Houghton had just gone through severe flooding. Waara says they delayed the appeal because of the flooding, but now want what they’ve paid in taxes back. Complete article

“Customers are leaning on Walmart more than ever to help them save on items they need the most but also to help save them time,” Rich Lehrfeld, senior vice president of Walmart Marketing, said in a statement.

A Louisville man who reportedly stole a woman’s purse and car Wednesday afternoon is being held on a $10,000 cash bond in the Hardin County Detention Center.
Trevor Kappler, 24, is facing numerous charges following in an incident that began in the Hardin Memorial Hospital parking garage and ended inside the Walmart in Elizabethtown, according to an arrest citation.
Kappler told Elizabethtown police he had stolen the purse and vehicle with hopes of getting back to Louisville. He told police he had just left drug rehabilitation locally, the citation said.
The woman said she saw the man speed off in her vehicle after he forcefully took her purse. She called law enforcement when she saw her vehicle leaving. Complete article

TikTok, which is owned by Chinese tech company ByteDance, has sued to stop the ban, but not the sale order. The report covers the company's efforts in the previous fiscal year, which ended Jan. 31. SAN ANGELO, TX – On August 5, a Tom Green County grand jury indicted 31-year-old Matthew Kyle Robertson of San Angelo for the Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle which is a state jail felony in the state of Texas.
On May 29, 2020 Officer Baldwin with the San Angelo Police Department was dispatched to a residence off N. Sellers St. in reference to the report of an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

36-year-old Brian Riley, 41-year-old Lora Pope, and 30-year-old Jeremy Brown were charged with theft of a vehicle after they were caught by police inside of a stolen car and was caught on video in the act, per report.
On August 24th, officers were dispatched to Walmart at 3458 Dickerson Pike in regards to a motor vehicle theft. Brian Riley was caught on camera along with Jeremy Brown stealing Julio Cesar’s vehicle from a Walmart parking lot. Later, Riley was seen walking near Maple Street and South Gallatin Pike. Officers performed a terry stop. During the stop, officers located the stolen vehicle and Brown. Walmart has video evidence of both men being at the scene when the car was stolen which was reviewed by detectives.
Police at 124 Lanier Drive spotted the stolen blue Toyota Corolla while conducting the terry stop for Riley. When police found Brown with the stolen vehicle they also charged Lora Pope because she was the driver at that time. Pope stopped the vehicle and was taken into custody without an incident. Brown was told to get out of the vehicle multiple times and refused. When police attempted to forcibly remove him from the vehicle he resisted more. Complete article

SHOW LOW — Police arrested a man after he assaulted a law enforcement officer and then rode his bicycle down the main isle at Walmart before crashing into a display in the alcohol section of the store.
Scott R. Davis, 35, of Tucson was in the emergency room at Summit Healthcare Aug. 18 when he allegedly assaulted an officer and also attacked grounds crew workers. He then jumped on his bicycle and rode to Walmart, where he allegedly rode it down the main isle past shoppers and crashed into a liquor display. The display was at the end of the isle next to the eggs and milk section.
Police said after he crashed into the liquor display Davis put a bottle of alcohol in his pants and rode his bike out of the store into the adjacent Home Depot parking lot where police tried to grab him.
Police said Davis managed to get away before police again grabbed him. A struggle ensued as Davis was resisting arrest and making threats which he also allegedly made towards officers while being booked. Complete article

Walmart not facing charges 08/31/2020 Court records show that the State Attorney's Office didn't file charges against Vincent Bruce Scavetta, saying that although there was probable cause to arrest him, the current evidence doesn't prove all the "legally required elements" of the crime he's accused of and isn't sufficient enough to support a criminal prosecution.
