Walmart Crime Report March 2025

Walmart had another eight shootings related to their business, most if not all on their property in March 2025 with two people killed in two incidents including one person killed by police officers in a chase and shooting that began on Walmart property, but he was killed at a nearby parking lot. There was also another shooting across the street from a Walmart where police injured a 'fugitive' and a shooting in an apartment complex right behind a Walmart that killed one person. They finally abandoned efforts to get the death penalty of the El Paso shooting almost six years ago, and the lawyer for the defendant claims he was schizophrenic and that he believed he was fulfilling Donald Trump's wishes when he committed the shooting. I went into this previously in Burying Solutions to Prevent Gilroy, Dayton and El Paso Shootings 08/15/2019 and I included a short article by Professor James Garbarino, "Is Inciting Domestic Terrorism an Impeachable Offense?" 08/06/2019, which is half way down my article, which also includes other excerpts from Professor Garbarino and other credible sources.

In addition to the person killed in a shooting there was also another body found on their premises, one person killed in a fire, and four more people killed in accidents for a total of eight people killed on their property, which is more than the usual number of people killed in vehicle accidents, but slightly less than the usual number of people killed by all causes on their premises. there were also several gun related crimes without firing shots, at least that got reported on the internet, but search engines aren't reporting as much crime as they used to, so it's virtually guaranteed there's more that aren't being reported. This has always been the case with minor crimes, like shop lifting, but it was more likely that they would report on major crimes like those involving guns, which is not necesarily the case any more, possibly even for shootings. There was also one big story with a large police presence, but no explanation about why, which has happened a couple times in recent months; I can't rule out the possibility that it might have been another major crime, whether it involved a shooting or not.

There was also a viral story about someone that allegedly tried to kidnap a small child in a Georgia store, where the mother eventually started claiming that she has a "tug of war" to prevent him from taking her child. but after a few days the lawyer for the suspect claimed it was all a misunderstanding and that he was trying to help and make sure the child didn't fall off a handicapped scooter, and other aspects of the story seem to support his claim, but many news outlets continued to repeat the sensational and shocking version without updating the story with his explanation. Apparently the mother, who wasn't handicapped at all was using a handicapped scooter anyway and letting her kids ride with her, when someone, who may have been an immigrant from India or that region, asked her where the Tylenol was, when the incident happened.

She didn't immediately call for help, and he went about his business as if nothing had happened, instead of trying to escape like a kidnapper might be expected to do. He went to an employee to ask where the Tylenol was and bought it, as if nothing happened. Her story became more dramatic later, and when told about his claim that it was a misunderstanding she didn't rule it out and hoped he was telling the truth, saying she'll let police decide after viewing the video, which they have, but they refused to release it. Without seeing the video it's impossible to be certain, but his story seems more credible, although the media is often pushing the more sensational, and possibly false version.

There were also at least three high profile people that were fired after being caught shoplifting at Walmart including a principal, a corporate attorney, and another cop. There are at least three or four cops arrested every year for shop lifting and all the reports that I remember say they were quickly fired, or, like this case, they resigned to avoid being fired. Most reports that I've seen come out shortly after the incident, but this is an exception. Mark Allan Leenerts was arrested on October 6, 2023 but I saw no media reports about it at that time, nor did I see any media reports when he plead guilty in August 2024. The reason he made the news this month was because his licence to practice law was revoked this month and he chose not to contest it. They also report that he was put on "administrative leave" when he was arrested, without specifying if it was with pay, although my best guess is it was not.

They follow a standard operating procedure and police are always fired for this, but when charged with violence against the poor, sometimes even when it was innocent people, they often fight much harder to keep their jobs, sometimes succeeding or getting paid when they're under investigation. This adds to evidence that the government is far more concerned about protecting the property of the rich, even when it's petty amounts, than they are with protecting the rest of us, even when they kill innocent people. The fact that this wasn't reported promptly when it happened also indicates that it may be more common than most people know, and we can't know how common it might be. Now that more than 90% media has been consolidated into the control of six corporations they're often less likely to report on corporate fraud of many kinds, and since the police enforce a rigged system favoring the wealthy they may also be reluctant to report on them, even if it's sensational.

There was also a case where a Leavenworth Kansas man posed as a security guard for Walmart, took a woman to the back of the store and raped her there; the article isn't clear, but it seems likely he would be familiar with the area, possibly knowing a real employee, or even being a former employee.

Another man went on a wild rampage in the store destroying TVs, smashing a glass door and other destruction before being detained. There were also various assault including a man kicking an elderly man for mistaking him for an employee, assault on police officers and employees, and a large variety of other crimes.

There were more card skimmers found in various stores in three different states, including Pennsylvania, where they caught the suspect, Virginia, and North Carolina, where arrests weren't widely reported. This is now routine and Walmart makes little effort to warn customers or safeguard their data, nor are the quick to cut back on self-checkouts, which make it easier to install these devises undetected, although there have also been a few found on regular register, possibly after distracting the cashier, or even with the help of the cashier, which hasn't been proven that I know of, but seems possible.

One person was arrested for printing what they consider obscene material, which may or may not have been a legitimate concern; but there may also be concerns about employees spying on things people print up at Walmart. And there was another massive theft of jewelry, which is semi-routine, but the value of this is based almost entirely on advertising hype, since this does nothing to improve the quality of life, just making some people feel more important than others; yet stores and police often treat this type of theft as worse than violence against the working class.

There has been a large surge on bomb threats, or at least there seems to be based on media reports, and one reporter speculated on a possible common link making the threats, even without evidence to support this theory, and some of the suspects are, as usual, only related to one or two bomb threats. Walmart has always had bomb threats, but they're almost all false alarms. It may be as likely if not more likely that either Walmart Home Office changed their policy on evacuation for some reason leading to more reports, or media oligarchs, with six corporations controlling over 90% of the news, changed their recommendations on reporting it.

A well liked Walmart greeter was fired for harassing or detaining customers he suspected of shoplifting, supposedly against company policy, which often changes without letting the public, or possibly employees know. This is one of many cases like this with over eager vigilante workers; but they rarely consider the obvious fact that this increased dramatically due to self-checkout and store design, and the obvious solution is reversing those absurd policies. This is one of many complaints about loss prevention policies that often lead to false accusations.

In addition to the four people killed in accidents, crashes, including two overturned Walmart trucks on opposite sides of the country, DWIs, chases, hit and runs, vandalism of a Tesla and other automobile crimes. Two vehicles caught fire at their stores, and at least six other fires in their store or near their property, with few if any suspected to be arson, which is rare, they have arson almost every month, usually several of them. There were also a couple knife crimes, one where a person stabbed himself and another where another person stabbed two other people.

Walmart had at least nine more major recalls including at least a couple that could be life threatening, like a Nasal wash that might cause fatal infection or tires that could cause crashes, other recalls include baby products, including high chairs or loungers, Lean Cuisine meals, sunscreen, crackers with possible metal contamination, and dressers that might tip over. Tipping over dressers is something that gets recalled at least once or twice almost every year, and it's easy to recognize standards to prevent these items from being bought let alone recalled, yet they keep cutting too many corners over and over again at the expense of consumers and risk of children.

Do you want people to preach the Bible while you shop?

Do you want to preach the Bible to others while they shop?

Well apparently the vast majority of people don't like this, and it doesn't work; yet, in some areas Evangelists keep trying and Walmart workers seem to let them. But they do stop efforts to unionize or speak out for customers rights fast!

Do you think washing cars is an appropriate punishment for shoplifting? One Michigan Judge thought so but the higher courts disagreed. Whether this is right or wrong, there's no effort to implement more effective solutions that already work, like eliminating self-checkout, creating an economic system not driving people to desperation, or holding the rich equally responsible for their crimes, like wage theft and many other white collar crimes, which do much more damage.

How often do you try to get away with theft by using a handicapped scooter that doesn't go more than a few miles an hour?

Whether you do it or not, other do this several times each year, often with amusing slow speed chases.

Strange things happen at Walmart!

In 2006 Wake Up Walmart did a study, "Is Walmart Safe?" based on incidents in 2004, (PDF) about crime at Walmart which showed that it increased when Walmarts opened up and that crime was higher at Walmart than at other retailers. Since then Walmart Shootings began compiling a list of gun related incidents at Walmart and demonstrated that they have a large number of them, including on average more than one shooting per week somewhere in the country; now after counting them for several years that average is over two per week. In January of 2014 another study, "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" provided additional statistical research indicating that Walmart might be contributing to higher crime rates or at least a slowing of the decline in crime. The study found that. “on average, communities with Walmarts had 17 more property crimes and two more violent crimes per 10,000 people than those communities without Walmarts.” I reviewed this more in Walmart’s crime problem, Rolling Back Safety more than prices? where I explained that although this study is helpful they could have done better with additional data that is available and I reviewed some of that. I also added my own review about why I think that Walmart policies have been contributing to higher crime in a previous blog, Walmart high crime rate continues un-investigaterd and have provided additional information under the author tag Walmart Crime Watch.

Over the past ten to fifteen years Walmart has been increasing the use of self-checkout, and this has corresponded with a steady increase in shoplifting as well as false accusations, yet they refuse to even discuss returning to the use of cashiers. What most people seem to have forgotten was that when they first did this it was on a small scale as an experiment, presumably to see if it worked before expanding it, which would actually make sense, if they slowed it down or reversed it once they saw how many problems it caused. But that's not what they did. Instead the more problems they had the more they increased use of self-checkout, often claiming that instead of hiring more cashiers again, which worked previously, they resorted to more technology and hiring more security to catch people skip scanning or at other forms of theft. This has led to massive amounts of false accusations, in addition to the real thefts, and when the thefts are real, and they get caught, they often resort to violence, so it endangers both Walmart workers and customers.

Now they're acting as if the rise of shoplifting is happening for some inexplicable reason and even asking police to help them solve this problem, as if it wasn't a problem created by their own policies, and most of the media or politicians aren't pointing out the obvious. This is resulting in a massive increase in arrests, court expenses, and prison expenses, which Walmart isn't paying for, effectively meaning we are subsidizing Walmart's high crime problems with tax money. There's no official explanation for why they're behaving so foolishly; but, since this is a for profit corporation it's not hard to speculate about the most likely reason for it, that they're increasing profits for those making the decisions. But, a large portion of the money saved by not hiring cashiers is spent on technology or security to catch thieves; and, if they had to pay the increase in police, courts and prison costs that would reduce or eliminate their savings, and they would almost certainly reverse their policies, because they wouldn't be increasing profits with self-checkout.

This doesn't even include the risk to the health of both their customers and workers when the worst thieves turn violent, in some cases possibly even shooting and killing people. Every year since 2016 has seen more than a hundred shootings at Walmart, and more often than not, this is increasing, while they ignore the causes of their crime problems. These self-checkouts are also making it easier for thieves to put "skimmers" that collect credit or debit card information from customers that enable them to use their cards illegally, but, once again, the customers are stuck with the tab, not Walmart, so they're doing little or nothing to stop this, even though it's a direct result of their bad policies. And furthermore, courts have ruled that Walmart has a right to detain customers even when they have no reason to believe they're shoplifting, if they simply refuse to show receipts, as a matter of principle. At times some lawyers have claimed they need probable cause to ask to see receipts, which, if a customer goes directly from the register, sometimes even when there's a cashier, to the door they can't possibly have. So this means Walmart is under no obligation to assume their paying customers are innocent until proven guilty, which should raise major constitutional questions!

Stacy Mitchell has also compiled a list of other studies about Walmart and how they impact society, Key Studies on Big-Box Retail & Independent Business. To the best of my knowledge Walmart has done as little as they seem to get away with, often relying on rhetoric that isn't backed up with action, when it comes to addressing any of their critics concerns, including crime. One of the responses they’ve come up with is what they call "Restorative Justice" which gives first time shoplifters a chance to avoid being arrested or any criminal record if they take an on line course which costs $400 up front or $500 in payments, plus perhaps, reparations. This has been part of the privatization process and often denies suspects of the due process or access to a lawyer, perhaps even intimidating and extorting from some people that might not even be guilty. Walmart seems to be trying to find a way to turn crime into a profit making situation instead of looking for the most effective ways to reduce it. Making Change at Walmart is asking If you or someone you know has gone through @Walmart's "Restorative Justice" program for first-time suspected shoplifters, send us a DM. 03/30/2017 to ensure that it isn’t doing more harm than good. I did my own review of this program as well at Walmart’s “Restorative Justice” Endangers Public Without Reducing Crime. The following are a list of incidents that occurred in March 2025. According to the "Is Walmart Safe?" the average store in their sampling had 250 incidents per year indicating that these are only a fraction of the crime reports at Walmart, and presumably, the ones most likely to make the news on the internet nationwide. This isn't statistically representative, as the 2006 or the "Rolling Back Prices and Raising Crime Rates?" study or some of the studies cited by Stacy Mitchell; but it does provide some additional information that may help recognize how many problems there are at Walmart.

SHOP SMARTER NOT HARDER Walmart manager shares secret tip for skipping lines as shopper confronts employee after ‘huge’ self-checkout line 03/04/2025

A WALMART shopper was frustrated after spotting exceptionally long lines at both self-checkout and traditional checkout, prompting them to confront several employees and managers.

The customer's complaints ultimately saved them from waiting in the lengthy lines when the store manager shared a little-known way to check out quickly.

One of the most frustrating parts of a grocery trip is having to wait in a checkout line for longer than it took to do your shopping.

On a recent shopping trip, a Walmart customer was dismayed to see a self-checkout line 60 people long with only five out of 30 registers open.

"My first reaction is to leave, but then I've wasted my time," complained the shopper in an X post from over the weekend.

They decided to ask the Walmart greeter why there was such a big line, to which they were informed that it was Sunday, a day when many people go on grocery runs. Complete article

With ad revenue reaching $4.4B, buyers see Walmart’s retail media network as the ‘one to watch’ 03/01/2025

Walmart’s ad business grew 27% year over year in 2024, according to the company’s recent earnings report, netting the retail giant $4.4 billion in global ad revenue for the year. That growth has come as Walmart has continued to evolve its ad offerings. This week, for example, the company announced a new Application Programming Interface (API) for Walmart Connect that allows ad tech platforms to create and manage tools for display campaigns — a move that buyers see as Walmart setting the stage to transition display campaigns from managed service to self-service.

As Walmart’s retail media network matures, buyers see it as the leader of the pack among the bevy of retail media networks — aside from Amazon of course. Walmart is checking a lot of the boxes when it comes to what buyers want from retail media networks now, including adding more capabilities and tools, more measurement tracking and off-site ad units. Whenever Walmart adds streaming and CTV capabilities — something buyers expect it will do given its acquisition of smart TV maker Vizio — that will only help the retailer continue its current growth trajectory, according to four ad buyers Digiday spoke with for this piece.

“Walmart has been the one to watch,” said Amie Owen, chief commerce officer at IPG Mediabrands. Complete article

Va. Walmart pays back towed customer, fires towing company 03/07/2025

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Those who observed it told us.

People got out of their cars at the Frederick Boulevard Walmart, went inside to shop, and by the time they came out, their cars were gone.

A car would then show up, and car owners were put in that car and taken to Always Swift Towing to get their own cars — usually leaving behind $375 in cash.

Back in December, Alison Copeland, a disabled driver who had a disabled placard to hang on the rearview mirror of her car, said her car was wrongly towed by Always Swift Towing, which had a contract to tow cars from the Walmart.

“As a shopper of Walmart, I no longer want to go to Walmart because I don’t know if my car is going to be gone,” Copeland said.

At the time, Copeland showed 10 On Your Side a photo of her car, the company telling her that it was keeping another car from parking in the next spot. Complete article

Chinese authorities summon Walmart executives over Donald Trump’s tariffs 03/12/2025

Move comes after reports that retailer asked its suppliers to cut prices in response to US levies.

China’s Ministry of Commerce has summoned executives at Walmart over reports the US retailer asked its suppliers to cut prices in response to tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, according to state media.

The discussions, reported on Wednesday by a social media account affiliated with state-run China Central Television, highlight mounting geopolitical risks for big US companies in China.

“Chinese companies shall not bear the blame for US tariffs,” the Yuyuantantian account, a frequent source of official commentary on trade, said in a post on the social media site Weibo.

Walmart has expanded its presence in China in recent years despite a wider slowdown in domestic consumer demand, and its US stores rely heavily on goods imported from the world’s second-largest economy. Complete article

Walmart is asking some delivery drivers to prove their identity — in person 03/12/2025

Spark drivers who verify their identity at a store will receive a one-time $15 payment, the email said.

"All drivers in your area will need to complete an in-person identity verification" to keep using the Spark app, according to the message, which directed drivers to a store in Northwest Arkansas, the region home to Walmart's corporate headquarters. The email gave the drivers a deadline of this week to complete the check. Complete article

Michigan judge wanted Walmart shoplifters to wash cars. His boss stepped on the hose 03/15/2025

DETROIT — A Michigan judge has thrown cold water on a plan to have Walmart shoplifters wash cars as a consequence for their misdemeanor crime.

The unusual sentence came from Judge Jeffrey Clothier, who has been on the 67th District Court in Genesee County for only a few months. He said having shoplifters give free car washes would serve the community and possibly discourage other people from stealing from the big retailer.

But Chief Judge William Crawford II overruled him, saying the junior jurist should have sought approval from him and other court officials first.

“This is especially true where the proposed alternative punishment deviates from the usual and accepted methods,” Crawford said in a statement Friday, adding that, “‘Walmart Washes’ will not be taking place as reported.”

Clothier made headlines in February when he told The Associated Press that he was ordering 75 to 100 store thieves to return to Grand Blanc Township, near Flint, to wash cars for free when spring weather arrives. Complete article

My Walmart Evangelism Wasn’t Working 03/13/2025

The Good News didn’t sound so good when I ambushed people in the chip aisle.

As college freshmen, my friends and I spent many Friday evenings wandering around Walmarts in southwest Ohio. We paced the tile floors, squinted under fluorescent lights, smelled the bread wafting in from the Subway in the foyer. We strolled up and down the aisles, passing unloaded palettes and abandoned carts. But we weren’t there for groceries. We were there to ask shoppers how we could pray for them.

Our method was simple: Identify a shopper, approach that person slowly, and introduce yourself. Be warm, concise. State your purpose. Hi! My name is Heidie, and this is my friend Leah. We’re Christians, and we were wondering if there was any way we could pray for you today. Then we would smile and wait until the person we were speaking to no longer looked startled.

Many people said no thank you and hurried away, the way one does when cornered by a Girl Scout during cookie season. Some ignored us, continuing to reach for canned goods and check items off their lists. Some responded with open derision, emitting unfriendly grunts or mumbling things like you fundamentalists. But occasionally, a person would say sure, we’d inquire what about, and then we’d start to pray. Complete article

Mom and teen daughter arrested after girl fight at Fla. Walmart 03/16/2025

A mother and her teen daughter were arrested after a fight with the teen’s former friend at Walmart.

Ashley Mae Oglesby, 35, of Lake Panasoffkee, was jailed this past week in connection with the Wednesday afternoon altercation at Walmart in Bushnell.

The teen girl who was attacked, posted on social media that she was headed to Walmart. When Oglesby and her 16-year-old daughter learned she was going to Walmart they went there, too, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. There has been some apparent animosity between the former teen friends because the former friend’s boyfriend had been “talking” to Oglesby’s teen daughter.

Once they were all at Walmart, an altercation broke out when Oglesby’s teen daughter ran aggressively at her former friend, the report said. The friend threw a drink at Oglesby’s teen daughter, who retaliated by punching her in the face and knocking her to the ground.

Both Oglesby and her teen daughter “were on top” of the other girl “striking her,” the report said. When deputies arrived at Walmart, the other girl “had blood around her face” and described the attack. Complete article

Walmart shopper slams store as ‘too cheap’ to hire more checkout lane workers 03/18/2025

One shopper shared their grievances with the service on X, saying they became so frustrated they ended up just leaving their groceries right there on the floor and walking out.

A Walmart shopper has called out the company for being “too cheap” to hire more employees to work the register.

The checkout lanes always seem to be a cause for concern among shoppers, who find that the process is too slow. The retail giant has installed several measures to make shopping easier and quicker for customers, like their new ‘Scan & Go’ feature.

With a Walmart+ subscription, customers can scan items on their phones as they shop, then head to a register and pay with just the tap of a button. The addition is nice in theory but they don’t always work, as employees still check for shoplifting, slowing down the process. Complete article

BocaNewsNow.com obtained the arrest reported for Kateryna Peterson:

>>On March 20, 2025, at approximately 2144 hours, I was dispatched to Walmart at 22100 S State Road 7, unincorporated Boca Raton, Palm Beach County in reference to a vehicle burglary in progress. Witnesses described the suspect as a white female with a white shirt and black shorts who was now exiting the parking lot and traveling eastbound on Palmetto Park Road. While in my issued patrol vehicle and in the PBSO issued uniform, I observed a female matching the description in the same area (Vineyard Ct and Palmetto Park Rd), who advised she was just at the Walmart. I detained her and placed her into handcuffs and explained that we were investigating a crime at the Walmart. She refused to corporate and did not want to provide her name. This continued while I investigated the incident at the Walmart.

During this time, she advised that she was checking door handles because she wanted to die. I returned to the scene with my Rapid ID in attempt to identify her. She refused several times again. We attempted to get a finger print but she continued to resist. She was pulled out of the vehicle and it was explained that we needed to identify her. As I attempted to utilize the Rapid ID, she raised her right leg and kicked my right knee two times. She then swung her head back towards mine as I stood behind her narrowly missing the right side of my face. At this point she was placed into the back of my vehicle and told she was under arrest. At the Walmart, Loss Prevention advised that they located her Wallet near the front of the store, after review of the abandoned property, it was discovered to contain the USA Residence Card for the current Defendant in custody, Ms. Kateryna Peterson. Walmart fires woman who reported anti-trans threats from man in bathroom 03/28/2025

Dani Davis said she was fired from a Walmart store a week after a man entered the women's bathroom and yelled anti-trans threats at her.

Dani Davis was in the women's restroom at the Walmart where she worked when she heard a man's voice shouting from outside the stall.

The man yelled a slur for transgender people and said he was going to beat them up, Davis said. She was the only person in the bathroom at the Lake City, Florida, store.

Davis, who is not transgender, said she feared the man thought she was trans because she is 6-foot-4. She hid in the bathroom until the man left and told her supervisor what had happened. Complete article

A week later, Walmart fired her.

Davis, 29, said she was told she’d been fired for not reporting the March 14 incident to higher-up managers, creating a “security risk.” Besides losing her job, she said the incident left her terrified at how anti-trans sentiment had led someone to threaten her with violence.

“It was all very scary and heartbreaking and confusing,” Davis said.

Walmart spokesman Joe Pennington said the company reviewed the incident and has made multiple attempts to invite Davis to return to her job with back pay.

“We want our associates to feel safe and supported in their workplace, and we won’t tolerate bullying or threats of violence against our associates or customers,” Pennington said in an email to The Washington Post.

"It won't be the same without him" | Fayetteville Arkansas community rallies after Walmart greeter's firing 03/26/2025

"I did the right thing, but not at the right time and not the right way," Mr. Chau said.

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas — A local post on social media with the hashtag #JusticeforMrChau went viral locally in a Fayetteville Facebook group over the last few days.

Chau Nguyen was a greeter at the Fayetteville Walmart on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard who was recently fired after nearly 11 years on the job.

This left customers outraged, confused, and demanding that he get this job back after a post in "What's Wrong Fayetteville? garnered thousands of comments and hundreds of shares. ......

"On the evening of March 22nd, I stopped a girl student, I asked her to let me see her receipt, and she did it. I have a look at the receipt," he said.

Mr. Chau said he saw there were 14 items on the receipt, but there seemed to be many more items in her cart.

"She put some of her items aside and at that time, I came quickly up to her. I told her, 'No, no, it's still over the amount of 14,'" Mr. Chau said. "So at that time, she disagreed with me. She wanted to walk up, but I didn't let her go."

According to Walmart's policy, employees cannot detain or harass customers suspected of shoplifting, and they have a "no-touch" policy. Mr. Chau admits this wasn't his first time violating procedure and that there were two other incidents.

"I stopped a woman, but she refused to show me her receipt. I held her cart, but she walked away ... But you know, it's my way, OK? I cannot give up. So I still held the cart," he said. In retrospect, Mr. Chau acknowledges that he was wrong and should have complied with the policy. Complete article

Patrick Crusius believed he was fulfilling Trump’s wishes in El Paso attack, his attorney says 03/30/2025

Patrick Crusius believed he was acting at the direction of President Donald Trump when he murdered 23 people and wounded 22 others at an El Paso Walmart in 2019, his defense lawyer told El Paso Matters.

“He thought he had to stop the invasion because that’s what his president was telling him, which is just not rational,” defense attorney Joe Spencer said in his first extended interview about the mass shooting that Crusius said was meant to stop “the Hispanic invasion of Texas.”

“He thought, if he doesn’t do it, then nobody’s going to do it. He’s got to start,” Spencer said.

The White House did not respond to multiple requests for comment from El Paso Matters. On Aug. 5, 2019, two days after the El Paso shooting, Trump condemned the attack and the motives behind it: “The shooter in El Paso posted a manifesto online consumed by racist hate. In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry and white supremacy. These sinister ideologies must be defeated. Hate has no place in America.”

Trump visited El Paso on Aug. 7, ignoring pleas from much of El Paso’s elected leadership that he stay away because they felt his rhetoric may have played a role in the shooting.

Although numerous Trump critics said his constant anti-immigration rhetoric played a role in the El Paso shooting – an accusation Trump supporters have denied – Crusius and his defense team have not previously addressed whether Trump’s words played a role in motivating the gunman. Complete article

It’s official – Walmart is issuing a national product hazard alert – and here’s how it affects you if you bought anything this week 03/29/2025

If you’re always on the go and like to stock up on healthy frozen meals, you might want to take a peek in your freezer. Nestlé has launched a nationwide recall for four varieties of its frozen Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s meals, which are populary sold at Walmart locations all over the country. The problem? They have unfortunately discovered they could contain “wood-like” material.

The problem came to light after consumer complaints, including one about a possible choking incident, as noted in Nestlé’s statement. Guess it’s time to give those meals the “wooden” treatment and check before you chow down!

The recalled items come from their Lean Cuisine line, including their ravioli (both the butternut squash and spinach artichoke versions), the lemon garlic stir fry, and the largest Stouffer’s chicken lasagna (Party Size, as they like to call it).

Recalled Products: Time for a Freezer Check

These affected meals were sold at Walmart and Kroger stores nationwide for several months, from September 2024 to March 2025. You can find all the necessary details, including the 10-digit batch codes and “best before” dates, listed below. The codes are conveniently located on the side panel of the product boxes—just flip the box over, and you’ll have the scoop. Complete article

Shoppers fume as Walmart still refuses to accept Apple Pay but retailer defends decision 03/29/2025

Irate shoppers are furious that Walmart still doesn't accept Apple Pay as they call it the "dumbest thing in the world".

The policy often leaves shoppers surprised at the checkout and some customers have complained about it leading to embarrassing situations.

"I’m convinced Walmart refuses to integrate Apple Pay into their checkouts just to embarrass people," one person wrote on X. Full list of Walmart stores closing their doors in 2025 amid slumping sales 03/28/2025

Amid slumping sales all across the retail sector in the United States even the country's largest brick and mortar stores aren't immune from the shift to online shopping.

Walmart, which operates over 4,000 stores in the U.S., has closed 11 stores in several states across the U.S. Many of the stores are underperforming as the company continues to battle competition from online retailers like Amazon and Temu. A full list of banking closures can be found here.

The stores confirmed to have closed so far are listed as follows. A large amount of the stores closed were in California, which has other options for grocery and retail shopping, but that isn't the case for many rural areas. When Walmart first began expanding they often pushed smaller grocers out of many communities as they couldn't compete with Walmarts bargain prices. (At least 11 stores, 5 in Ca.) Complete article

Walmart employee sparks outrage after sharing shocking story about store policy: 'I feel the same way' 03/29/2025

"There's so much of it that we take it for granted."

In an ideal system, food waste wouldn't exist because companies would redistribute any unsold or uneaten foods (as long as they're not visibly rotten or moldy) to employees or the public.

While some companies have made progress in reducing food waste, many corporations have a long way to go in adopting sustainable practices, as one new Walmart employee discovered.

What happened?

In r/Anticonsumption, the employee posted that they felt "insane" about being asked to throw away perfectly edible fruits and vegetables without having the option to take the foods home instead. The worker said they'd just started working in the fresh department at Walmart about a week before the frustrating incident happened.

Despite telling their team leader it felt wrong to throw so much fresh produce in the dumpster and practically begging to be allowed to save it, the TL explained it was against store policy to take home unsold foods. Complete article
